We have already visited a few Greek restaurants in the Mayen Andernach district that are very good. But the restaurant here is mega good. Very friendly and above all attentive staff. Because of the nice weather we could enjoy the meal outside in a nice atmosphere. The meals were very tasty. The meat is good quality and to the point. Tender and tasty. The Tzatziki is a must have. Creamy and delicious. This is now our new local bar when it comes to going to the Greek restaurant.

We were able to spend an evening with delicious food and cool drinks. The employees in the restaurant are very nice and accommodating. We were warmly welcomed and said goodbye at the end, really great! We both enjoyed it very much. If we're in the area, we'll definitely come back!

I really have to say I haven't eaten so badly in a long time! Unfortunately the food was too salty and my husband said that less food is sometimes more! At the beginning the service was nice and the restaurant actually made a good impression! When we left the food there and the waitress asked if everything was OK and we said that the food wasn't good and was too salty, there was no response, which I found very unfortunate! Sorry

The Poseidon is a centrally located Greek restaurant in the historic city center of Mayen. After making a reservation in advance, we went there as a group of nine. There is the option of indoor and outdoor dining. Toilets are in the basement. In terms of taste, the dishes - starters and desserts - were all very tasty. The portions could have been a bit larger for my taste, although I also ordered a dish from the lunch menu. I still left the restaurant full and satisfied. The staff was very friendly. Since the restaurant was completely full after a major event in the city center, the preparation of the food took a relatively long time that day and the waitresses obviously had their hands full.

When you come in, greeting and handshake from the boss. Where else is that available? Be sure to try the garlic bread as a starter. The hammer. Short waiting times even when it's full. Only recommended. Update: June 22: Still great. The food is still a dream for my taste, the friendliness anyway. Price/performance TOP Update: June 24: It is and remains our favorite restaurant. Even though the prices here have of course increased a bit now, it is still worth a visit. After the renovation, everything shines fresh and has a modern design and the family-run restaurant itself cannot be surpassed in terms of friendliness. Keep it up. The Poseidon in Mayen is a very good restaurant right in the old town. You can sit under cover outside with a view of the pedestrian zone or inside. The interior was recently renovated and the toilets are also very clean but unfortunately in the basement. Rather difficult for people with disabilities. The food and service are top. The owners are very friendly and happy to help with any questions. We were very happy, keep it up.

Went there for dinner with three people. Waited a long time for food. Forgot starter. Without apology and only provided upon request. Main courses were absolutely disappointing as they were very small and expensive! Still water served in a glass without a bottle, probably from the tap! Ice cream for dessert is a joke: A small crushed ball of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce for € 5.20! Service overwhelmed, after a while you can no longer see it. The price-performance ratio is not right here! Never again!

Very tasty food and the staff is friendly

Located near the beginning of the shopping street. Parking in front of the door is not possible. You can eat inside and outside (there is a lot of smoking outside). Atmosphere is great and very neat inside. Staff are friendly. We spent 87 euros for 2 adults and 2 children aged 9 and 11. Souvlaki was fine. Soft and cooked. Some grilled peppers with the souvlaki would have made it a little tastier. Fries and no vegetables. A salad beforehand. Moussaka was fine, perhaps a little too much red sauce and there was no white sauce, which is normal with a moussaka. It was fine, but we did eat at better Greek restaurants that were somewhat Greek.

We experienced a family celebration with 10 people in a nice atmosphere, with excellent food and absolutely warm, nice and attentive restaurant staff. We felt completely comfortable.

Pommes haben wir nachgesalzen. Gyros und Bifteki waren ok. Da sind wir aber aus dem Griechenland Urlaub oder unserem Stamm-Griechen besseres gewohnt. Das Personal war super freundlich, Sonderwünsche waren kein Problem. Man kann gemütlich draußen und drinnen sitzen.

Whit Monday during the flea market for lunch at Poseidon. We were very pleasantly surprised. The best mousaka in a long time. Souflaki was very juicy and the rice was also very well prepared. Beautiful, modern interior, friendly and competent service. Can be recommended.

Found it by chance and we now visit it regularly whenever we come to Mayen again. The food was plentiful and also super tasty! I liked the service, ambience and also the menus. Especially the little instructive references to Plato, Euclid etc. were something unusual!

Cozy atmosphere, warm welcome. The food is good and in nice portions. Wiedersehen power fraud. March 30, 2024, we were there again and everything went according to plan. Recommended if you just want to eat good food with really hospitable people.

The entire team is exceptionally well organized. Within a short time, a large group (who had only announced their meal wishes two hours before!) sat in front of the menus they had ordered. The recommended and served Retsina finally reconciled me to this type of wine. Unfortunately, as in many Greek restaurants, the food is of good basic substance and is very salty. There's something else going on here.

The restaurant is discreetly and stylishly furnished, without foregoing the usual Greek decorative bells and whistles. We received a very friendly welcome from the owners, they are doing a great job. The prices are a bit high, we paid almost 20 euros for fried vegetables and a spoonful of tzatziki, gyros dishes are available from 15.90.

Had dinner at Poseidon yesterday. Friendly welcome. Ordered schnitzel. Food = fried schnitzel - dry - fries = sola - salad = loveless. The hard part was the toilet facilities - men's toilets, broken toilets - unappetizing! If I had gone to the toilet first - I wouldn't have ordered food here!

Had lunch there today. Lots of guests, there are sales open in Mayen. We noticed the new interior and menu. Have eaten there very often. Usually there was always tzatzikki with us at dinner, but that wasn't the case today. And the ouzo 'on the house' is apparently no longer available. It's a shame, it was a nice gesture...mhm. Otherwise good food, good + friendly service!

It was our first time there and the interior is beautiful. We were greeted very friendly, but it took a while before we were served. After we were served we quickly had our drink and food on the table. The salad was very carelessly prepared. The cucumbers were definitely not completely fresh. Cheap dressing from the supermarket. The gyro itself was okay. Tzatziki wasn't homemade either. There are much better Greek restaurants there. The quality should be raised a little, even at the expense of the price. All in all, the food was okay but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

We ate there on New Year's Eve, it was very crowded, despite everything the service and food were very good. The staff were very friendly and didn't let the stress show. We felt very comfortable in the nicely furnished restaurant.

The place has been renovated and it looks really fantastic. Very well done. The food is extremely inexpensive and delicious. Only the lamb chop had a lot of fat. I don't know if that's normal, it was my first time eating lamb, but the lamb fillet was absolutely perfect and very tasty. All in all, super satisfied, all 4 of our visitors agreed on that. The only negative point is that it is very warm there.

Poseidon ist aus Mayen nicht mehr weg zu denken. Gerade erst wurde alles Renoviert und es ist richtig gut gelungen. Liebe Jianna und lieber Ilias, wir wünschen Euch noch viele Erfolgreiche Jahre und das ihr genau so bleibt wie ihr seid, einfach spitze eben.

Preis Leistung stimmt nicht mehr

Viel zu lange auf das Essen gewartet(eine ganze Stunde) essen war sehr mittelmäßig, kleine Portionen und hohe Preise, am Geschmack wäre auch noch viel zu ändern, schade!!! Vegetarisch gibt es überhaupt nichts!!

Essen war zu trocken nicht gut gewürzt. Service war mal besser. Eigentümer sowie seine Servicekräfte standen vorne Rum und hatten keine Lust wirklich zu den Tischen zu kommen. Haben 3mal drauf hingewiesen das wir bestellen möchten. Und jedes Mal Kamm er zum Tisch und sagte gut und wollte wieder gehen. Auch beim Servieren ist ein Missgeschick passiert.(was ja jedem passieren kann). Doch es gehört sich dann auch dem Kunden das Getränk neu anzubieten. Besonders wenn das Glas noch voll war. Ambiente ist auch schon etwas älter und in die Jahre gekommen. Das ist Geschmack Sache und möchte dies nicht negativ bewerten oder positiv hervorheben.

Bester Grieche sind immer wieder gerne da. Familie ist super nett und essen immer super.

Sehr gutes Essen, super netter Service, haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt

Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich. Meine Bestellung war Suvlaki mit wahlweise Pommes und Salat. Der Salat war frisch mit einer Fertigsauce. Die Speisen lagen eher lieblos auf dem Teller; 2 Suvlakis auf Pommes, dazu etwas Zaziki auf einem Salatblatt. Geschmacklich waren die Fleischspieße durchgegrillt , also etwas zu fest und die Pommes schmeckten, als hätten sie schon länger auf dem Teller gelegen. Das hat nichts mit griechischer Küche zu tun. Ich freue mich, dass Poseidon im Netz so gute Kritiken hat. Aber ich werde dort nicht mehr essen gehen.

Das Essen war sehr.gut. Die Bedienung dürfte allerdings etwas aufmerksamer sein. Wir hätten gerne noch Getränke bestellt, wurden allerdings nicht bedient, da der junge Kellner sich angeregt mit Stammgästen unterhielt. Da ist im Service noch Luft nach oben. Den gesparten Betrag für die Getränke haben wir dann unserem Taxifahrer als Trinkgeld gegeben, da er uns auch für eine Kurzstrecke befördert hat und sehr freundlich war. Insgesamt aber war es ein schöner Abend und wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

Satt werden kann man hier, lecker geht anders. Ein pampiger Gyros-Salat mit Eiern, völlig daneben. Bifteki war gut.

Essen miserabel fade trocken. Das hat mit griechischem Essen nichts mehr tun. Gyros in Weissweinsauce als Pampe zusammengekocht. Zsatsiki vergessen. Gyrossalat ähnlich schlecht Eier ungenießbar. Sauce keine Ahmung was das für ein Geschmack ist. Cola Light bestellt. Cola bekommen.

Wir kennen das Restaurant von verschiedenen Aufenthalten in Mayen. Kurz zusammengefasst - schnelle, nette Bedienung, recht große Speisekarte mit den bekannten griechischen Gerichten, gepflegtes Ambiente, Aussenplätze bei gutem Wetter. Heuer hatten wir 2 gemischte Teller. Die Portionen waren wie immer sehr reichlich. Was uns auffiel war, dass die Preise scheinbar deutlich erhöht wurden. Für 2 gemischte Teller zahlten wir incl. Getränke über 46,00€! Geschmacklich gibt es noch Verbesserungsmöglichkeiten! Etwas mehr Würze täte dem Fleisch ganz gut. Auch eine kürzere Garzeit wäre nicht falsch! Ob wir das Restaurant erneut besuchen, steht noch offen. Das wird bei unserem nächsten Mayenbesuch eine Spontanentscheidung..

Das Ambiente ist noch ok - 80er Jahre Schick -aber mein Essen war wirklich nicht in Ordnung! Ich hatte Kalamares+ Seezunge mit Reis (normalerweise Folienkartoffel) und Tzatziki. Auf dem Tisch standen Aufback-Pizzabrötchen. Der Fisch + die Kalamares waren paniert und totfrittiert! Der Fisch bog sich (vor Scham womöglich?!) und war zu hart und gummig zu schneiden. Der Tzatziki war eine Art Remoulade. Mein Mann hatte einen Fleischteller, der zumindest genießbarer war - mehr Lob kann man leider auch nicht geben. Mir tat es sehr leid um die Seezunge und die guten Lebensmittel! Sehr enttäuschend!

The Poseidon Restaurant is a rather good one, located in the nice city of Mayen. There one can savour good Greek specialities such as the Acropolis plate (one suflaki, one steak, gyros and tzaziki, plus salad and rice) and the Poseidon plate (one lamb chop, one lamb fillet, one suflaki and gyros, with salad and rice). It's a pleasant place, very well decorated. Part of the decoration call forth ancient Greek culture. There is inside for instance a white structure consisting in four columns with ionic capitals which support a roof as if it were a Greek temple. The place is very well lit up and the music volume isn't too high. The staff is kind, professional and helpful, their members are always ready to give their advice thus aiding the customer to make the right choice. The food is good though I couldn't say that it's not excellent. I ordered a grilled sole with salad and rice and the fish was very well cooked and tasty but a bit tough. The restaurant isn't expensive. For all the aforesaid reasons, it's a recommendable place to eat while in Mayen.

Hierbei handelt es sich um den besten Griechen in Mayen. Meine Frau und ich gehen hier ein paar mal im Jahr hin und freuen uns jedesmal über das leckere Essen. Ilias und seine Familie machen jeden Besuch sehr angenehm, sodass man gerne wiederkommen möchte. Wichtig zu erwähnen ist, dass man hier auf jeden Fall satt wird und die Preise sehr fair sind. Auch mit Kindern kann man hier wunderbar speisen.

Selten so fade und lieblos Griechisch gegessen. Das Fleisch (Poseidon-Teller) war trocken, die Fritten eher Marke 123 und die zusätzliche Portion Tsatsiki mit 4,50 EUR übertrieben teuer. Bei anderen Griechen gehört das zum Gericht ohne Extrakosten dazu. Der Beilagensalat wird nach wie vor in roter Soße ertränkt (vgl. Bewertung von 2017!) und für Vegetarier ist das Restaurant völlig ungeeignet. Es gibt nur zwei Gerichte Nudeln (beim Griechen?) und Pizza (beim Griechen?). Die Pizza war teilweise roh und mit (Analog?)käse zusammengehalten. Manche Imbissbude hat leckeres Essen als dort. Einzig der Service war soweit freundlich, wobei auf unsere Kritik der rohen Pizza auch nicht weiter eingegangen wurde. Da könnte auch der Ouzo am Schluss und der Handschlag beim Verlassen des Restaurants nichts mehr retten.

I wouldn't eat here again. Salad was drowning in dressing. The meat was okay although the lamb was mostly fat. The restaurant itself was messy and the staff busy watching TV instead of serving food.

I did found it by accident, but I had done my research before traveling here, so, once I found it, I had to sit down and try it. Food is good, good portions, some youngs servers do speak English, so don't be afraid to ask questions, I had a traditional fish fry, it was good, not to fishy, and not to breaded, it was good, when in Mayen stop at Poseidon.

Our final evening in Mayen and we decided that we should try something different. A bit slow with service but very tasty souvlaki and salad. Overall, a busy restaurant, popular with locals, good food and at reasonable price prices.
