Restaurant & Pension Sonnenburg in Oranienburg

We've been there for brunch several times on weekends. I can definitely recommend it.

Last Christmas, we gave a gift certificate for the Sonnenburg restaurant. We'd eaten there ourselves. The food is expensive, but it's good German cuisine. This year, the recipients wanted to redeem the certificate before Christmas. So far, so good... They were very disappointed with the service; the staff were downright unfriendly. When it came time to pay, the staff became even more unfriendly. They should have mentioned beforehand that they had a gift certificate. BUT WHY? Gift certificates are like cash and are valid for at least three years. What's the problem with simply accepting them? Afterwards, another guest mentioned that the portions were supposedly smaller with a gift certificate. Whether there's any truth to that, I have no idea! That would certainly be cheeky, since they're just gift certificates. This treatment of the guests was anything but polite. What a shame... We definitely won't be buying any more gift certificates there.

Last year on Christmas Day evening, we booked a table, and it was very cozy; we could eat and drink in peace. So, this year, we decided to book again with the family and were really disappointed. We booked a table at 1 p.m., and it felt like an assembly line. We had exactly 1.5 hours, which they hadn't told us, and then the waitress started stomping around, saying we wanted to pay because they needed the table. I couldn't even finish my coffee in peace. The Christmas spirit was somewhat ruined. A real shame.

We went to the restaurant with our family for dinner on December 25th, 2025. The welcome was unwelcoming for a Christmas holiday. We only received a menu after asking for one. The staff was quite efficient and mostly polite. The price/performance ratio is unacceptable (despite the holiday surcharge, etc.). Some of the food was only lukewarm, and there was far too little of it. Most of the family left the table hungry. It might sound like a lot of complaining, but for the price, I simply expected more.

The food was delicious and the service was also very good, I'd gladly come again.

As someone from Oranienburg, I can't say much about the guesthouse. The food in the restaurant is definitely worth a visit. I recommend the beef roulade.

May 11, 2025 We did it again… This time, the three of us went for Sunday brunch. Very important: reserve in advance, it's always very busy! A nice selection of various types of bread and rolls, plus a wide variety of toppings, from jams, cold cuts, and cheeses to various egg dishes, etc. There's also fruit, quark dishes, and muesli for the health-conscious. Around noon, more hot dishes and side dishes are added. The friendly and very attentive staff completes the welcoming atmosphere. In short: I highly recommend the Sunday brunch because there's something for everyone. May 4, 2023 The first mild evening in the cozy beer garden… This restaurant (with guesthouse) located in a quiet residential area invites you to enjoy hearty, home-style cooking. Attentive and friendly staff, generous portions, and reasonable prices are all part of the restaurant's hospitality. I can highly recommend the "Sonnenburger Grillteller" (grilled meat platter). For me, this is what "honest, rustic cuisine" looks like... We say "thank you" and will be back...

We were invited to brunch. The welcome was incredibly friendly and cozy. Even the youngest guests were well looked after. But the buffet topped everything! We've been to brunch many times before, but we've never experienced such a fantastic buffet. Freshly baked waffles, fresh bread and rolls, and fruit. Soup, eggs prepared in various ways, crispy bacon, fish, and a huge selection of savory and sweet dishes, including yeast dumplings with hot cherries and vanilla sauce. The buffet was constantly replenished, and at lunchtime, three different savory dishes were added. The staff also frequently checked on us and cleared the tables during the meal. We left very full and extremely satisfied. We will definitely accept the invitation to return in the summer to enjoy the lovely garden with its play equipment for the children.

We had brunch at Sonnenburg on November 22nd and would like to thank the staff, especially Nadine S. Her service was excellent, very attentive, always friendly and quick. The food was good; there was nothing negative to report.

As always, the food was very good. But the service was a disaster. We ordered a latte macchiato and received a cappuccino. No problem for us. We ordered a hot chocolate and received an iced coffee. That was unacceptable. We told the waiter we had ordered a hot chocolate and he apologized. Then we received an iced chocolate 🙈. Again, we took it with humor. We ordered an espresso and received a latte macchiato. That must have been a trainee without any training. We won't be coming back, even though we've been going there very often for many years.

We stumbled upon this wonderful restaurant for lunch and were greeted and served by a friendly woman. The food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. We highly recommend this restaurant. Thanks again! 😊

We spontaneously went to eat at the Sonnenburg today. The staff was very friendly, the food came quickly, and it tasted great. We'd definitely be happy to come back.

We were there on Sunday for Bruch. I don't recommend it. The price/performance ratio isn't right. For €30 per person, you'd expect a better buffet. You had to pay extra for hot chocolate and water. I'm not used to that, and they barely refilled anything until we asked for it. The staff barely paid any attention to the buffet. That won't happen again, so we won't go there again.

Service was nonsensical. The menu arrived after 20 minutes. Ordering took just as long. It was a popular birthday dinner, no sound, no table set. The icing on the cake was that two of the guests wanted to share a dish because each of them had already had an appetizer. We were then asked to pay €3.50 for a second empty plate. I've never experienced anything like that before. Apparently, the staff calls it a "robber's plate." Presumably because the guest is being robbed... We won't be going there again. It's a shame, because the food is excellent. But if the rest isn't up to scratch...

The food is attractively presented, and you can tell it's been prepared with love. The service is impeccable. We've been there three times now and have been completely satisfied each time. We'd love to come back. 👍

We celebrated our wedding there two weeks ago. The price was very good. The food was excellent. Our guests were thrilled. We had the entire interior to ourselves and the covered area outside. The ambiance was beautifully set. The table was beautifully decorated, and we didn't have to worry about anything. We could completely rely on them. This saved us a lot of stress. All in all, it was a beautiful wedding for us, and thanks to the hostess for making everything go so smoothly.

Whenever we're in Oranienburg, we usually stop by the Sonnenburg restaurant. However, we discovered that the sharply increased prices unfortunately don't reflect the usual quality. This means mini salad and potatoes. Instead of homemade lecho sauce, we get ready-made items. After some of our fellow guests consumed alcoholic beverages, the waitress over-extended her order to ensure they could refill their drinks. The guests felt rushed. Restaurants have become expensive everywhere, but at the Sonnenburg, things have dropped considerably.

I can recommend this place. It's very simple, yet cozy. The food is good, but the prices for eggs or lecsó with the schnitzel are overpriced.

We celebrated a family birthday there and the food was great, the staff were friendly and we never had to wait long if we wanted to reorder.

During a bike ride, we (two people) spontaneously looked for a place to have dinner. We made a reservation by phone. Our positive impression continued with the personal welcome upon arrival, very friendly and attentive service, and the food of correspondingly high quality. It was a wonderful experience for us; we'll remember this restaurant and look forward to returning when the opportunity arises.

We were only there to use the guesthouse. Rooms are ok for €70 a night. Could be a bit more renovated and cleaner in some corners, it's fine to stay overnight.

update 2025 You can eat well here, the prices are fair and the service is very attentive and warm. Good selection of fish. We like sitting outside in the green. 2021: We also tried this delivery service. Decent home cooking, generous portions and very friendly service. Prices are reasonable. The cabbage roulade was definitely not fried enough for us, so one star was deducted.

Went in yesterday without making a reservation. Got a place. Found that not much has changed after 12 years. The taste of the food was good, but unfortunately it was only served lukewarm. We had three different waitresses. The first one probably didn't really feel like it, the other two were nice.

If you love German cuisine, this is the right place for you. The schnitzel with fried potatoes was very tasty.

If not all debit cards from different banks are accepted by this company, you should give the guest this information beforehand and not write it down: debit cards are accepted for payment. This is not only annoying for the guest, but also unacceptable.

To the complainers, if you all have such exclusive tastes then you'd rather go to star restaurants or cook alone In the Sonnenburg you can get good food and value for money It's cozy too Old-fashioned is outrageous. I slept in the Sonnenburg for 3 nights and was very satisfied. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly. The Sonnenburg is in a quiet location and yet the center can be reached quickly. The beer garden is beautiful and invites you to linger. Price-performance is good. Should I be in Oranienburg again, the Sonnenburg will be my first address. Great guesthouse. Thanks

We booked a table there at 5 p.m. for my father's birthday. Carelessly covered. Cutlery without a base on the table. On the advice of the waitress, 3 people ordered a large pork knuckle with extra pea puree for an additional 3 euros. What we got...an average sized knuckle of pork which was undercooked and tough. The approximately 2 tablespoons of pea puree for 3 euros! The sauerkraut was completely natural (a matter of taste), but the crowning glory was 5 half potatoes that had a strange skin. The menu advertises freshly cooked!! When we asked, she went into the kitchen to ask and honestly, as the waitress was, she told us that the potatoes were left over from lunch!! That doesn't work at all! ..of course pork knuckle has to be pre-cooked, but then please serve it thoroughly and hot. The waitress was visibly uncomfortable and was really trying to limit the damage! Especially since a guest who was sitting outside also returned his food. The other meals were ok... nothing more. Our conclusion, the last visit there. It's a shame actually.

We had a celebration in the Sonnenburg We were there for a family celebration last year and were satisfied, so we booked here again But we would have preferred to leave that alone. Bad service, we felt out of place, there was hardly any care. Sometimes we had to get the drinks ourselves. I felt so sorry for my guests; afterwards we were annoyed that we didn't celebrate somewhere else. We then continued celebrating at home. The prices are not cheap, but I demand better service

We went to Sonnenburg for brunch today. Arrived 30 minutes after opening, the buffet was already very clear and nothing was refilled. For the adults there was a cup of coffee and for the little guests there wasn't even water or juice. Everything had to be purchased. We had imagined it differently.

Regular Saturday/Sunday brunch! 😋(€19.90/person) ... in my opinion best price/performance ratio in O:burg! Great, extensive selection in all brunch areas... The 5 stars are for the friendliness of the staff(!) and the kitchen(!). Since the Sonnenburg is located a little outside the city center, we “lost sight” of the brunch. It definitely won't happen to us again! 🤭

Rooms are getting old... mold in the shower. There is very little on offer for breakfast, definitely not worth 15 euros...

I came across the Sonnenburg on February 2nd, 2024 while taking a walk. When I came in I was greeted immediately and shown to a table. I was then given the menu and chose something that tasted very tasty. The service was also very quick and friendly.

I came in spontaneously on February 2nd, 2024 and was taken directly by the waiter to a table that we had reserved 30 minutes before. I ordered a currywurst with fries. It was freshly placed on the table within 10 minutes. The service was excellent and I was well served. I would come by again :)

We went for brunch with a large group. Brunch is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The food was very tasty, very varied and there was something for every taste. Hot meals were served from 11 a.m. Goulash + red cabbage, Bolognese pasta, smoked pork, fish, Brussels sprouts, potato casserole. I have rarely experienced such diversity at brunch. We were very satisfied and can recommend it to everyone.

Wir waren in einer größeren Gruppe da. Kellner alle sehr nett, sollten aber die Gäste erst einmal ankommen lassen und nicht gleich mit Getränkewünschen überfallen. Teilweise hatten die Gäste sich noch nicht einmal hingesetzt. Schnitzel und Eisbein sehr lecker zu einem guten Preisleistungsverhätniss. Das Schweinefilet für 24,90€ passt überhaupt nicht, viel zu wenig Fleisch und Qualität auch nicht gut.
