After the cinema, quickly go to the beer garden. The food was quite ok, although - probably due to the location - a little more expensive and rather smaller portions. Important to know: card payments are only possible here from 50 euros. Actually, card payments are now completely normal in ice cream parlors or bakeries, but unfortunately not here!

Very nice beer garden, service was ok, food not good value for money. The lukewarm Maultaschen salad came in a preserving jar, the salad was not fresh (3 leaves of lettuce) and at most a small chopped Maultaschen. For €12.90, too little and a bit carelessly prepared. The tarte flambée was ok at €13.90, but also quite expensive. €38 for a small amount of food and two drinks is too much. It's a shame, the atmosphere is really nice.

Kitchen staff comes out of the toilet and goes into the kitchen without washing their hands. Disgusting Mineral water from the tap for €4.20. Quite expensive for sparkling tap water. Salmon tartare as a starter is an absolute joke, You had to look for the memorandum and the Röstie were two potato-old frozen ones.

Location beautifully and rustically furnished. Food ok, but at these prices the quality should be significantly higher (but that's how the Porsche is quickly financed). The waitress (the lady) is unfriendly, seems listless and stroppy. All in all, they don't seem to place any value on the guests coming back. We won't be coming back... It's a mystery to me how 3, 4 or 5 stars can be given here!? Edit 04/2025: As in 2022, I tried unsuccessfully to have my negative review removed. That seems easier than accepting the criticism. But this is now common practice in order to get rid of negative reviews as easily as possible.

Probably the worst Maultaschen I've ever tried. Mash “melted” onion with a nasty cold storage smell. Complained once because the Maultaschen were cold and hard on the inside. Probably just put it in the microwave and serve it to me again. No enjoyment at all!

One of my favorite restaurants in Esslingen. Whatever you order here is delicious. I think people who have experienced a restaurant like this would say that German food is delicious.

We took a chance to see if there was space for us, was so well worth the dining experience. From the quirky decor to the nice wide enough choice of food and drinks. The service was excellent, the food even better. Normally as a Vegetarian menu choices are generally limited and boring but I was pleasantly surprised. My husband chose the Schweinebraten with butter Spätzle which he said melted in his mouth. The portions are quite large, so you definitely wont go hungry! We will definitely be back!

My wife and I were looking for Swabian cuisine today and stumbled upon the Palmscher Bau beer garden based on the good reviews. Although only a few tables were occupied, we waited over ten minutes after choosing our seats, while later-arriving guests were already being served. When I politely asked at the bar, I was rudely turned away with the words, "I'll come when I have time." This kind of behavior is disrespectful and unprofessional. Of course, things can get stressful at times, but chatting with some guests and ignoring others leaves a bad impression. Unfortunately, we weren't able to experience the cuisine for ourselves. I recommend speaking to the staff, as this kind of behavior quickly alienates guests.

The staff isn't as friendly as you'd expect in a restaurant like this. The food is OK. It's a shame that card payments are only accepted for amounts over €50. We were informed about this on a note in the entrance area. You just miss the notice when you walk in. There's no mention of it on the menu. The atmosphere is really nice. Rustic, fitting the old town flair of Esslingen.

It was the most delicious German restaurant I have ever been to. I had stewed beef innards, my husband had stewed beef and spaetzle, and my children had cheese spaetzle, and they were all excellent. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was good and the staff were friendly.

The Palmscher Bau is an absolute must for lovers of Swabian cuisine! As soon as you enter the restaurant you can feel the cozy and historical atmosphere. The various guest rooms are lovingly designed and exude a lot of charm. Particularly noteworthy is the quality of the ingredients and the perfect preparation. The portions are just right and the taste is a delight! The service is also first class: friendly, attentive and professional. Even on busy evenings, the staff always remains relaxed and warm. In summer, the beer garden is another highlight - a wonderful place to end the evening with a cool drink and delicious food. Conclusion: If you are in Esslingen, you should not miss a visit to the Palmscher Bau. An all-round perfect experience – I’ll definitely be back!

Ambiance Wow, food ugh. The Palmsche Bau attracts with its distinctive, clock-like ambience, in which you can easily feel like you have been transported back 300 years. You can imagine how people used to eat here. Unfortunately, the more than average food suddenly pulls you out of your dreams. Everything seems only half-baked, there are no subtle nuances in the taste and you get the impression of canteen food. Very unfortunate. There is so much potential here but the kitchen team doesn't manage to keep up appearances and just produces really bad food. Edible, but not enjoyable. So if you're looking for a nice atmosphere, this is the place for you. If you are looking for good food, you should move on to the Kleine Traube, the Ratskeller or one of the other rustic inns in Esslingen.

Unfortunately our food didn't taste good at all. I have never eaten such bad lentils and spaetzle and for such a high price. My son ate a schnitzel, which unfortunately he didn't like either. The Palmsche Bau is actually a very nice inn. It's a shame the food is so bad! Price-performance doesn't fit.

The food was excellent and the service was TOP. There is an absolutely cozy and appealing atmosphere in the Palmscher building. We were there for the first time and absolutely loved it. We will highly recommend the restaurant to everyone.

The two of us went there spontaneously on December 27th, without a reservation. We were assigned a nice seat in the front area. You could easily absorb the atmosphere in the restaurant from there. Everything was very decorated for Christmas and we really liked it. The waiter was very busy. We had to wait a bit before we could order. He apologized very sincerely for this. But it wasn't a problem for us at all. (We may have looked very hungry!?😁) Everything was very clean, the menu was clearly laid out, daily recommendations on a separate menu. We ordered the Allgäuer Knusperle and the roast goose. The Kässpätzle apparently contained not only cheese, but also a creamy sauce. It was different than usual, but definitely tasty. The Knusperle (chicken strips) are crispy and juicy. According to the menu, there should have been a baked apple with cranberries on the plate with the roast goose. Unfortunately there was only a single disc...really now!? For 34,-? The red cabbage was well cooked until creamy and deliciously seasoned. The dumpling good. Unfortunately, the sauce was helped with a ready-made product. The goose leg was very crispy on the outside, but the meat was strawy and dry. Only the core is still juicy and tender. Taste good, as expected. The mixed side salads had just the right amount, with delicious dressing. For dessert there was a very ordinary plum cake, unfortunately not warm but with a cold core. For the price, well...the ice cream and the other side dishes were good. The service was excellent, attentive and very helpful. The toilet area always looks very clean. We really like being in the Palmschen Bau. It has a special charm. Overall it was a very relaxed and pleasant visit. I know from experience that they can eat better. So highly recommended.

I've been eating here for years. But this time I was really disappointed. The food no longer tasted as usual. There is no attention to detail: Allgäuerle Knusperle. The cheese and cream were missing. It was "fart dry" and the side salad was also sparse. But the top hammer was the ice cream sundae. We once ordered Amarena and Black Forest cups. When I looked at it, it was actually exactly the same and the cream was no longer fresh - it was already gritty. It's a shame, please look forward again. The restaurant doesn't deserve that!!!!

Went to this traditional restaurant for the first time during the Christmas season after visiting the Esslingen Christmas markets. Unfortunately the food can't keep up with the ambience. The sauce for the mushroom schnitzel came out of the bag (or tasted like it came out of the bag). The Zurich Geschnetzelte was more like chopped beef goulash with a dark sauce. And at prices like those in the middle of a big city. Very unfortunate.

The food is not recommended. Finished products from the freezer that are fried in the deep fryer with lots of fat and salt. Breaded veal schnitzel (ready from the wholesaler) also from the deep fryer. Instead of cranberries you get raspberry jam. Information about the origin of the goose leg was not possible because there is only one assistant in the kitchen at the convection machine and cooking ;-... And also the ambience. From a beautiful, rustic restaurant in Esslingen, an overloaded, kitschy place was created... Too bad.....

Worth a visit, cozy atmosphere in the heart of the city

The Palmscher Bau is highly recommended, we were registered with a group of 22 people and everyone was still able to do it Order à la carte. Went to the restaurant for lunch, it is centrally located in Esslingen with a beautiful, large beer garden. Service was friendly, the food from the lunch menu was a grilled plate with pork loin, fire sausage, bacon and rosemary potatoes... The pork loin was as thin as a schnitzel, the sausage was okay, the potatoes were good... the barbecue sauce was untouched... The food was okay, unfortunately lukewarm, the plate where the food was served was cold...
