Restaurant Metaxa in Castrop-Rauxel

We were invited there for lunch today and felt very comfortable. The only drawback was that it was still quite cold in the restaurant at noon. Service, food and drinks, as well as the interior, were very good. I was particularly struck by the acoustic ceilings at Metaxa, which made the experience much more pleasant for guests. Unfortunately, this is a rarity in restaurants. There is ample parking available, and a ramp for strollers and wheelchairs. There's even a changing table outside the restrooms. I highly recommend Metaxa. The food is delicious, and the portions are very generous.

We've been coming here for years. The food is simply delicious, the meat is always grilled to perfection, and the staff and atmosphere are simply fantastic. Please make a reservation.

You can skip the starter, otherwise you won't be able to finish the main course. It was very tasty. Unfortunately, it's very loud when the place is packed. We'd be happy to come back anyway.

The food was excellent, as always. The service left a little to be desired, perhaps due to the busyness. We had to wait a long time before someone came to get our drinks again.

Let me put it this way: You get a decent amount of food here, and even though the place was quite busy, you didn't have to wait long for your food. The service was friendly and attentive. Bottom line: It's definitely worth it. I even had some leftovers and a snack for Saturday...plus, I had a burn like a Greek mountain goat that night - Yamas!

A very authentic Greek restaurant. We had a platter for two people, and it could certainly have fed two more. The food was delicious, and the leftovers were also nicely packaged.

We were rudely asked to leave at the entrance because there was no room. The waiter was rude. We won't be coming back.

Metaxa is a real winner: superbly delicious food, great service, and an atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The dishes are authentically Greek and made with love – the meat platters and appetizers are especially amazing. The chef doesn't just come by at the end with the ouzo, but also stops by regularly, takes his time, and personally creates a great atmosphere. Simply a success all around – we'll be back again and again!

Great food. Deliciously seasoned, tender meat, even the bifteki practically falls apart. We went there today for the first time on a recommendation, and it certainly won't be the last. All the tables were occupied. Without a reservation, nothing was possible. We sat in the winter garden. The service was very attentive, not intrusive. Friendly and calm despite the hustle and bustle. In short: everything was top-notch.

Super friendly staff, everyone says hello and goodbye. The service is truly above average, and the food was also delicious. We called 5 minutes before closing and were kindly given something to eat... Unfortunately, we were right on the border between outside and inside, so we were occasionally exposed to cigarette smoke. But all in all, it was really great.

But what really makes this place special is the team: Janni and Lucky – two absolute originals from Castrop – super warm, attentive, and with a true sense of hospitality! They make you feel like a friend, not a guest. And not to forget: Wassili at the bar – relaxed, friendly, and with a perfect feel for the right ouzo at the right time! 😄 The atmosphere is familiar, warm, and simply makes you feel good. If you love Greek cuisine or just want to spend a really good evening, this is the place for you. I'll definitely be back – as soon as possible! 100% recommendation!

We ate at Metaxa again. As always, we were given a very warm welcome and shown to our tables. The drinks and food were served very quickly. The service staff were very attentive and the food tasted good. I would highly recommend it.**** Now we come to the negative points: like everywhere else, the prices have skyrocketed, the portions seem to be getting smaller and smaller. The filled bifteki is made from pork (not beef like at many other Greek restaurants). The Cretan plate doesn't come with tzatziki (but others do, with an extra charge of €2.20 for a single portion of tzatziki). At other Greek restaurants, you can change the side salad to a Greek salad or farmer's salad at no extra charge (an extra charge of €3.80 here). In addition, debit or credit cards are still not accepted (only EC cards). The owners should reconsider these comments!

The food was delicious and you didn't have to wait long. The salads were delicious and the cocktail sauce was a great combo. It was very tasty and I would recommend it. There is one but, though: maybe the portions shouldn't be too big.

The quantity of food was good. Unfortunately for me the quality of the souvlaki skewers wasn't particularly good. However, the others enjoyed it very much. Service was also mediocre. Passing large water bottles all over the table and over people isn't exactly the best thing. There are enough parking spaces available.

I've already visited about 30 countries and have enjoyed a variety of cuisines and restaurants. At Metaxa, you feel like home; the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The ambiance is pleasant both inside and on the terrace. In addition to changing daily specials, the menu offers many excellent dishes for a variety of tastes. Best restaurant in Germany.

Were there today for the first and last time. Unfortunately the gyro was hard and dry. Unfortunately I didn't have any tzatziki with me either. The red rice honestly didn't taste like anything. I think I would have had a meal like that at our Greek snack bar. I don't have to drive 50 kilometers for this. The restaurant is very nice and the waiter is super friendly.

I can recommend this restaurant, it is also very busy. Dogs can be taken into this restaurant. Food that you couldn't finish straight away can be packed up and taken home with you if you want.

Best Greek restaurant in town, or even the region. I only avoid this place on major holidays. Lunch is served in two shifts. To double the revenue. But the customer feels like they're in a mass-processing operation.

Cozy restaurant with good, fast and attentive service (the children at the table were greeted with a “children’s ouzo” to toast with the adults. The food was very, very tasty, the portions were very generous, so that we were able to eat the grill plate for two again at home the next day. We will be very happy to come back! We definitely recommend a reservation on the weekend!

Classic but good Greek. Lots of choice of food, you could happily reduce it. Price-performance is definitely okay. Unfortunately my dish didn't come with tzatziki and then I had to pay an extra €5 for a mini plate of tzatziki, which I think is far too much, especially for a Greek restaurant where that's the thing...

Great restaurant with good food - and plenty of ouzo 😉. Parking spaces are a bit rare but no problem on the nearby main road.

What can I say? Really very tasty. The service is very courteous and polite. The food was extremely tasty. The biftki and the gyros are really very tasty. Totally juicy and good! We wanted to go there twice, but everything was full. Good for the hosts, bad for us. If we're in the corner again, we'll definitely stop by.

The restaurant is quite inconspicuous from the outside, but the interior is very well designed and the layout of the dining rooms is simply perfect. The highlight is the food and the friendliness of the service staff. Therefore, the rating without deductions is always 5 stars. Please keep it up in 2025.

Price/performance are completely ok. The employees are polite, but we mean something different by friendly. Jumping out of your pants when asked about the invoice is not okay. Conclusion: unfortunately nothing has changed, even 😃 needs to be learned.

A nice restaurant, a little noisy because there is a lot of traffic and there are a lot of people eating there. The service is great and very polite. The food is great and the portions aren't exactly small. I can see that if you don't have a problem it might be a bit louder and if you're not eating like a sparrow :) Price performance is definitely very good.

2024 I have revised my rating from 3 stars to 5 stars. We were there yesterday and sat in the large main room, which is much more comfortable than the winter garden, despite the high noise level. The food was really great. The sea bream was very seasoned and really tasty and there was a chocolate cake for dessert. The service was attentive and friendly, and the drinks we ordered always came quickly. This time I have nothing to complain about, it was a nice evening. 2023 The food was actually quite good, although the prawns were relatively tasteless. Unfortunately, I found the atmosphere uncomfortable because it was very loud and we had four different waiters, which seemed very impersonal. On the positive side, there was an ouzo on the house before and after the meal. The price-performance ratio was ok, but I have to say that I didn't find it as special as I had heard before.
