Restaurant Lavastein in Hamburg

I don't think the food is my cup of tea, it's very oily and my child's pasta was very, very spicy. It doesn't even say on the menu that they are extremely spicy. A warning would have been nice. My other child had schnitzel and there was salad. My goodness, the leaves looked like they had been lying there for years, but if you like oily, spicy food without a warning or bad salad leaves, come here. I don't want to intimidate anyone with this, but it's my opinion. Everyone has their own opinion...

We spontaneously stopped in for lunch. The extremely friendly waitress served us and our child very well. The food for lunch was also great in terms of price/performance ratio! Delicious pizza and pasta. We felt very comfortable.

We were there with a reservation 2 hours in advance. The email says it will be confirmed unless someone calls. They didn't know anything about it on site. The food was great! Without question! In a beautiful location on the Serrahn, you can enjoy a good, affordable lunch in a nice environment and friendly service. You can also eat well here at other times of the day.

We went to the Sunday break on February 9, 2025 with you. We also had 2 large dogs with us. It was pretty full but the service had everything under control. The food was really very good, especially for the price (Drinks included). The dogs were also included through the service Water supplied. It was really a success all around a morning. We are already looking forward to the next brunch on April 20, 2025.

Best place to eat real food in the center of Bergedorf. Schnitzel here is actually better than in Wien. Very friendly staff, they always make sure that you're comfortable. I'm actually surprised why not all the reviews here are five stars. This place is much better than all those overpriced hipster cafés with poor food choices.

We went to Lavastein for brunch on Sunday (very well attended). The place makes a somewhat uncomfortable, cramped and dark impression. Overall, the selection of food on offer is pretty average, and the quality varies quite a bit. Cold dishes mostly really good; Warm dishes varied - the meat was quite decent, the sauce and side dishes were very moderate, the pasta was plum-soft. Dessert and other side dishes good average. The usual range of drinks (coffee, tea, non-alcoholic cold drinks) was included in the price. The staff was friendly, service attentive.

The service came quite quickly. The food was also quite good. Sure, there can always be a little more sauce for the schnitzel or ketchup for the fries. My visit to the toilet….well. So in a rest stop toilet the atmosphere is similar. My biggest negative point is the drink prices! €5.20 for a small Alster? €4.80 for a small Sprite? It makes me want to dig for water!

Today we had dinner at Lavastein with 16 people around 2 p.m. The first impression was that the restaurant was now in an unkempt condition. Dirty windows, cobwebs in the corners, wobbly tables and sticky menus. Fresh paint and regular cleaning would do the restaurant some good. The service was initially unprofessional and, due to its insecurity, cheekily rude. After we asked her to please bring us new, clean champagne glasses, she said that the missing water glasses would be washed especially for us so that we wouldn't have to "complain" again. I know that it is difficult to find decent staff in the catering industry these days. But that doesn't work at all. The food was generally good and plentiful. Over time, the service has also pulled itself together and developed friendliness and attentiveness. Nevertheless, if your work clothes get dirty, you should change them sometimes. Especially in the catering industry. If the hygienic conditions in the lava stone do not improve, we would no longer eat there.

Went there with friends for pizza before New Year's Eve. The pizza was served on tattered, ancient wooden boards, worn to the point of no longer working. Very unhygienic and unappetizing. I asked the waiter about purchasing new boards. He just made fun of it and said, well the boards were just as old as he was. 30 years. Big negative point at Lavastein in Bergedorf.👎👎👎

Super great restaurant, located directly on the Elbe. Definitely great to sit outside in the summer. The staff is excellent, great service.

We went to brunch with 10 people, the food was good to very good, but the service wasn't quite as good because we were charged too much money for each one. This is really very worrying and should not be tolerated!

We were here on a Sunday, I knew Lavastein from before and was very happy to come back here after a long time. When I entered the restaurant I was struck by a smell that smelled extremely like a snack bar. We had made a reservation for 5 people, which we also told the waiter at the reception. His answer was: it doesn't matter, there's space everywhere, which we also noticed because the restaurant was relatively empty. You could tell straight away that the waiter didn't want his job. After a long wait we ordered our food. In general the food was ok but not outstanding. We ordered kale twice, the rib-eye steak and the duck and nuggets and fries for the child. To eat: Kale was ok but tasted very bitter. I ordered the rib-eye steak medium, it came out well done and dry and tasted very fatty, dripping with old drippings, as if other things had already burned in the same pan. The duck was good. Now to the service: The service seemed very lackluster and that's where I get to the point that makes me angry and sad at the same time. I often observed how some waiters stole food from the guest's plate on the way to the table and walked around the dining room chewing, that simply can't be the case, and fries were simply stolen from my daughter's plate. Of course, other guests were also greeted with mouthfuls and chewing. The noise level was very unpleasant in the restaurant due to the half-open kitchen. And also the loud conversations between the waiters. In general it all seemed like a train station hall. At the end, when my father went to pay, the waiter tried to cheat us out of €20 and didn't give enough change, which we quickly asked for. It simply cannot be that such behavior is exhibited. This is an insult to anyone who works hard in this profession. We'll definitely never come back. I wouldn't be surprised if Lavastein closes soon.

Unfortunately, I had a very negative experience with a very cheeky service employee; she didn't respond at all to what was asked. There was no competence. I've been here several times over many years and I've always liked and enjoyed it. But behavior like this, which is not at all customer-oriented, makes me stay away now.

We were there for brunch. Among other things, croissants, cheese and natural yogurt and various breads are advertised. There were no croissants, no bread, no natural yogurt and only one type of cheese. Overall, the offering was poor for brunch and simply not of high quality, there were no signs anywhere about what it was (you can't clearly identify every dish). Unfortunately, I lack the love and choice to come back.

Kellner sehr unfreundlich, nicht aufmerksam. Essen und Getränke wurden nur so hingeknallt. Qualität sehr schlecht. Hack oder wie man das nennen soll, Breimasse, kein Geschmack. Das Essen: sehr kleine Portionen, teuer geworden. Wir sind das letzte Mal da. Gäste waren sonst gerne da, aber es wurde von Mal zu Mal schlechter. Schade.

We were here for the brunch buffet. We found a very rich and high-quality offering. We really liked the different degrees of doneness of the roast beef, which makes it clear how the different preferences of customers are taken into account. Cold and warm dishes, savory and sweet, fruity, there is something for everyone here. Coffee and juices are included in the affordable price. We'd love to come back.

Two of the three meals were poor. The salad was completely soggy, the turkey pieces were tough with gristle, only the potato was good. The second time I ate it, the burger was so soggy that you couldn't hold it in your hand. We left more than half of both dishes behind. Comment from the waitress: We've always done it that way. We had to pay full price for the poor quality food and were only offered 1 coffee (for two poor meals). Without words.

Great breakfast. For 2 people €19.50. 2 rolls, croissant, smoked salmon with horseradish, scrambled eggs with crispy bacon, tender raw ham, cheese, fruit salad, small tomatoes with mozzarella balls, Nutella jam and coffee or tea. It was super tasty and impossible to make.

Extremely disappointed for the money you get here. I saved myself a drink because I don't want to support the prices. Cola 0.33ml for 4.90 euros and a water 0.75ml for 7.90 euros. This is no longer normal. The food was average and not recommended. Never come back.

Very tasty...., the staff are very friendly. We eat here often. When friends come to visit us outside of Hamburg, we definitely go to Lavastein with them.

To satisfy our little hunger we had 2 hamburgers. Ok, normal standard fare, price was right. The drinks prices are not acceptable, the prices here are high, non-alcoholic wheat beer 0.5 l for €6.90 is not available in a place like this! At the harbor in Hamburg good restaurant the same drink €5.90!!

I ordered a gentle angel (orange juice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream), but with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream and not one. I was charged twice the price of the drink, i.e. almost €12 for orange juice with vanilla ice cream. More expensive than any cocktail on the menu. Unfortunately I only noticed it when I went out. I would never have paid for it. I would like to give zero stars for this cheeky rip-off.

I'm horrified. We wanted to go for breakfast and made a reservation for 9:00 a.m. When we got there at 8:50 we were told come back in 20 minutes, we're not open yet. When I said that we made a reservation at 9:00 a.m. and there were only 10 minutes until opening, the guy (probably the owner) said that he hadn't even changed yet and that the staff (bartender) hadn't sometimes there. I was a little horrified but oh well, we were back after 10 minutes, what is this guy doing? When he saw we were back, he just walked away. We went in, looked for a place and still no one came. We waited and waited, he didn't come. We then got up and had breakfast somewhere else. I'm wondering what kind of service is this? Where are we anyway? Well apparently the store has way too many customers for something like that. Never again👎🏻

Was incorrectly recommended to me as child-friendly. I ordered BabyChino for the children, which came in espresso cups and was then billed as espresso. I don't expect a Babychino to be free (which is often offered but you really can't afford it), but €2.90 for an espresso cup of milk is a disgrace. In addition, the waiter was slow and unfriendly and couldn't find the meal. That was the first time in my life that I didn't leave a tip.

Ended up here by chance. Stay in the Hotel H4 around the corner. The food is really tasty and the price-performance ratio is right. Cocktails at happy hour (5 p.m.-12 a.m.) €7.99 and €8.99 are really delicious. The side salad for €3.50 is also good. Anna, our condition is friendly and helpful. After a long time we were back in the lava stone. We used to really like it there, but not this time. Overpriced, the waiter was very inattentive and the bruschetta we ordered consisted of huge pieces of tomato lying next to the bread, the bread itself tasted very much like garlic. Onions or brazil couldn't be found at all. Unfortunately, the other dishes we ordered were also very disappointing. It's a shame, it was my son's birthday and he wanted to go out for a delicious meal.

We were there for breakfast. We ordered 3 half rolls of our choice (€8.50) and a fruit salad (approx. €5). What we got was disappointing! The rolls were baked and the butter had flowed into the rolls. The surface is minimalist! The food we ordered or the meat, a RIB eibeck steak, was so tough you could hardly cut it with a knife let alone eat it, it was full of tendons and almost raw. My comment was simply disgusting

I've been living in Bergedorf for 37 years now. Lava stone has never been as bad in all respects as it is today. The food leaves a lot to be desired, the service is noticeably annoyed and as a woman you are also hit on and harassed by the staff. The current owners really deserve this store to be boycotted. Save your money, because there are plenty of restaurants whose hearts are still in it. The lava stone should be absolutely avoided in its current condition. I don't want to speak of a recommendation at all.

Lavastein used to be THE meeting place for young and old. The price-performance ratio was always good. The store was always packed - now only 40% full. But you really lose faith when you see the menu with the exorbitantly high prices. A Magherita pizza for €15 can't really be serious. I eat cheaper at every Italian restaurant and get a beautifully set table. The female waitress is very courteous and funny, while her male colleagues are very unmotivated and look grim. The competition in Bergedorf has become too great for Lavastein to be able to afford something like this.

My personal experience with this restaurant is an amazing experience. Of course, the ambience on the water as well as in the restaurant is said to be a prison of any kind. The server is an enrichment for each individual, of course, the love of “Anna” can be seen in her tattoos, a very likeable woman known for her top server and her competence of all kinds whether it is improving the drinks or the food. Overall, a successful experience for everyone who comes here.

I've been in lava stone off and on for 30 years. What's nice is that everything actually always stays the same. The pizza is recommended. There is a lovely terrace overlooking the water. Parking in front of the restaurant is not possible, but there is a parking garage almost right next to it. The service is friendly and humorous.

I turned to the water with the chair in the outside area - it's not allowed - and I was immediately told that it wasn't allowed. That's why it was the last time. Ate something there again after a long time. Cheeseburgers and BBQ burgers. Not recommended. The subterranean fries tasted like they had been fried twice. Unfortunately, run-of-the-mill rolls, the bacon on the BBQ burger was dry and crumbled when cut. Think it was fried and not fried.

We can't say anything about the food as we only had something to drink. We sat down at a table and the waiter brought us the cards, very annoyed. On Mother's Day a price increase for brunch from 22.90 to 26.90. Without announcing it anywhere. On the Internet it says 22.90 on Saturdays and Sundays or public holidays. We only had a latte here, but it was great! You can sit outside there, partly covered. The view is of the canal, it's very nice to sit right on the promenade. You can park cheaply in the Saturn parking garage a few meters away.

Been here a few times. The food is ok. Tarte flambée is a bit tasteless and why do they put so much seasoning salt on a prosciutto pizza? Makes the pizza extremely salty and tastes only of dry spices. Castles are okay. If you sit near the entrance, you should expect a lot of cigarette smoke inside.

Outlandish prices for abysmal food. 20 euros for a pizza that was similar in taste and consistency to the wooden board on which it was served. Ingredients are nothing special, use completely tasteless tomatoes. Disappointing. They lost me. Beer 0.33 for over €5 didn't lift the mood either.

The restaurant is centrally located on a body of water. There is plenty of outside seating. Menu is ok. Prices are very high. W5 euros for a normal pizza. No bread with herb butter was served. Card payment is possible. Communication problem apparently due to a lack of knowledge of German: ordered pepperoni on pizza and received peppers. There is a surcharge of 2.50 euros. Interior very thrown together. There were even stars from Christmas left on the shelf. All in all, overpriced.

I have known the lava stone for at least 20 years and am so disappointed and unfortunately not the first time. The waitress was really trying but the head waiter was so unfriendly. We were there for brunch and arrived at 12. It hasn't been refilled since. The burners were all off, the sauces were already dark in color because it had been sitting there for too long. If you offer brunch until 2 p.m., you can't refresh anything after 12 p.m. just because it's not busy, that's not the customer's bad luck. The coffee was so bad that I never had a nice experience. and after we rounded up from 104€ to 110, there was no thank you, no nice day, but rather annoyed behavior. Miserable food. There were four of us there. Every meal was bad. Currywurst bad. Unappetizing fries. Noodles not particularly tasty. And the bruschetta was the absolute highlight (see picture). Not made with love at all. Tomato pieces cut huge, no onions. Never go to this store again. Poor quality at overpriced. Unprofessional waitress who was insulted after asking us if we liked it and we politely replied no.

I ordered a fitness plate with turkey strips from you this week. Unfortunately the vegetables were full of oil and partly burnt, which you could actually smell. The meat, on the other hand, was very tender and well done. To describe this dish, which floats in oil, as a fitness plate... Hmm, well ;-/.. wasn't that successful and unfortunately didn't do the name of the dish any credit. Maybe I was just unlucky and the chef wasn't paying attention that day. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was good. I hope that next time I visit the restaurant again, my expectations will be met.
