Restaurant Köppel-Hütte in Montabaur

It's actually great up there, including a fantastic view. But since battery-powered mountain bikes came along, it's been completely contaminated... Everything that never even came close to the Köppel before is now romping around up there, thanks to the motor. What a shame!

I like hiking up from the Baumbach parking lot. It's the closest for me. It's a good walk.

The end of a hike took place in the packed Köppelhütte, and yet dogs were allowed. There seemed to be a four-legged friend in every corner. Despite the busyness, we were allowed to place ours at the bar! And he's not the smallest. And the service for the pack leader worked perfectly 🤣. Thanks again for the treats and the temporary "luxurious sleeping place" for Felix.

Delicious food, friendly hosts, and great value for money. A truly lovely destination. We haven't been here in a long time—we'll definitely be back more often now :-)

The Köppel, with its adjoining Köppelhütte, has always been a popular destination for hikers and cyclists. The Aschebraten (roasted pork), in particular, is a dish everyone should try at least once :)

The path was long, with hardly any seating. There was a shelter, then a longer path, a bench with a beautiful view, and then the final section was a steep climb. By the time you reach the top, you're completely exhausted and look forward to a cold glass of Coke and a shashlik goulash with a roll. It was delicious... There weren't enough benches to rest on, as the path was strenuous for people with disabilities. Therefore, one point less.

I sat there for 30 minutes without a single server even looking at me, even though they passed me several times with food and drinks, or even empty ones. I probably didn't look like I was doing a good job. So I left. The view, however, is fantastic.

When you're there, make sure you have enough appetite to enjoy the ash roast and then have coffee and cake for dessert.

Until now, the Köppelhütte has been a favorite spot for us to enjoy Aschenbraten (a roasted pork belly) and schnitzel. Today we had breakfast here for the first time, and it was absolutely fantastic. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired.

A very beautiful and quiet place. From the access road to the Köppel, you have a wonderful view, weather permitting. It's a steep climb, but it's definitely worth it for hiking or biking. There's a charging station for e-bikes at the top of the hut. The plugs are only suitable for Bosch motors. Otherwise, bring your own charging cable. The hostess is also super friendly and welcoming.

Everything was in keeping with the surroundings. The host also accommodated personal requests. I would go back anytime.

We weren't able to get anything to eat an hour and a half before closing time. Service left a lot to be desired.

I can only recommend this hut to everyone. The food is delicious, the view is beautiful, and the service is fantastic... I proposed to my partner there last year, up on the tower, because the view is simply amazing. For people with disabilities, you can drive all the way to the top; otherwise, you should take some time and hike the trail, because it's a wonderful place to unwind and relax in nature.

It's always great to take a detour here by bike.

The Köppel Hut is truly something special. Whether you stop by after hiking, biking, or simply by car. It's incredibly cozy inside, and when the weather's nice, you can also sit outside. The panoramic view is fantastic. This time we went there for breakfast. They have everything your heart desires. Salmon, scrambled eggs, a cheese and ham platter. Jam and hazelnut spread. As well as rolls and bread. The rolls, unfortunately, are pre-baked rolls. The only thing that bothered us was the price of a pot of coffee. We found that quite steep. We love coming here. Dogs are also always welcome.

We were at the Köppelhütte again today, by bike. We go there often and always feel very comfortable. The staff is always friendly and the service is very good. They serve very hearty meals, the legendary Aschenbraten (roast pork), burgers, salads, Bockwurst (sausage), sausage salad, and soups. There are also cold drinks. You can sit on the lovely terrace with a panoramic view, or in the rustic, cozy restaurant. The prices are very reasonable, and the view is fantastic. You can even climb the 37-meter-high Köppel if you still feel like it. The view is worth it. We can wholeheartedly recommend the Köppelhütte 👍. Our only criticism is that the toilets are in dire need of renovation.

After work, I always enjoy a short bike ride to Köppel.

Had ash roast for two. Unfortunately, the meat in the dish on aluminum foil was only lukewarm, but nice and tender. On the other hand, the fried potatoes were quite hot. Unfortunately, we weren't given a menu, otherwise we would certainly have ordered an extra side salad. There was an unpleasant sour smell in the air, even outside the building, directly at the observation tower and the restaurant!?

Sunny day, 25 degrees - perfect conditions, rounded off by good food and great hospitality. The view from the tower is also worth seeing. According to the signs, the nearest parking lot was 2.5 km away.

Casual atmosphere and enough selection of food and drinks. Please stay as you are. Hopefully the rustic quality will be preserved!

A beautiful area for hiking with many alternatives. Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food, ambience or service as the hut was closed for no reason. But nevertheless, I will continue to keep the hut on my radar because, as I said, it is a beautiful hiking area.

Delicious food in wonderful sunshine and a great view. The super friendly staff also contributes to the great ambience of the Köppel Hut.

We ended up there by chance after a walk. Even if it is very far away and you suspect that card payment is not possible, you are wrong, it is also possible here. I found the atmosphere inside and outside to be very nice and pleasant. Absolutely right for the price and very nice employees.

We love coming here again and again. Very nice staff and incredibly delicious food.

Food and drinks were particularly appreciated after a long hike. Very friendly service. The ash roast was a poem and the beer was particularly good at quenching your thirst. The ambience is now in need of a bit of a refresh, but that doesn't really bother anyone.

Today (cold, sunny Sunday) all hell broke loose 🙈, but everyone in the restaurant was really nice and hadn't lost their sense of humor despite the rush 😂. You just have to wait a few minutes, we're not on the run 😉. It's a good thing we had booked a table in advance... and the food was delicious 😋. We'd love to come back. Food quite good, selection very small. Occasionally only 30 minutes after opening there is only a limited menu left, so it feels like there are still two things on the menu. The staff is overwhelmed and some are not familiar with the usual etiquette. “Sanitary facilities” catastrophic.

Toilets completely filthy. Puddle of urine on the floor, feces residue. If you don't have the capacity, you should leave it alone. Plus a rude tone. You feel really uncomfortable here.

When it comes to friendliness and hospitality, it's almost unbeatable, regardless of whether you're entertaining 5 or 50 guests.

Hello, A table was reserved for 13 people, which was unfortunately very tight because I only really had as much space to eat as the size of my plate. On the other hand, the group tables were placed so closely that neither the waitress nor a guest could get through. As a result, the waitress poured beer on our dogs because she could only serve at one corner. The food was good and we didn't have to wait long, even though it was fully booked. Unfortunately, after the meal the service slowed down so much that we had to go to the counter ourselves to order drinks. When the last person paid, drinks were still open. Of course we paid for them, but I assume that there were double orders because we were left stranded and the waitress didn't come with the drink order and we also ordered something at the counter. As constructive criticism, I would like to say that you should revise the ordering system (write drinks on the lid) so that the service gets a better overview of who ordered what.

A popular destination for hikers and cyclists. It can get pretty loud inside and outside the hut. If you're looking for peace and quiet, you've come to the wrong place. If you are looking for a distant view of the WW, you have come to the right place. The viewer then doesn't see the diseased (Wester) forest.

Nice cozy hut with very good food. However, the service left a lot to be desired: the menu only came after we asked again, drinks were taken but forgotten to be brought and our meal request was also not delivered to the kitchen. Only after another complaint was it admitted that the order had been forgotten and was now brought forward. That also worked very well. The food came quickly and was very tasty and filling!

Food was very good👍 Service, very friendly. But the innkeeper was very, very unfriendly, complained to his staff, that's not acceptable in front of the guests 😕

Very rustic hut. The staff was very nice and the food was good. We will be back. If you've already hiked up there, you should definitely go to the observation tower. The view is unique. It's just a shame that the whole spruce tree on the Köppel is destroyed.

Stopped here after a nice hike and took a break. Got a seat despite the busy location. Eaten well and drank refreshingly. If you want to come here with several people, a reservation is definitely an advantage, or just wait. We'd love to come back.

The Köppel!!! I've loved going up there since I was a child. You see him from afar and know you'll soon be home. It's great to sit, eat and drink indoors and outdoors. A cozy tent is set up outside in autumn and winter. Dogs are very welcome. Preferably every day ❤️

The journey through darkness, snow and ice was a joy to arrive quickly at the Köppelhütte. A cozy, cramped inn with good food and good draft beer. We would love to come back because we have fond memories of the evening.

Everything is as you would imagine a hut to be. Great service, friendly service and the food is also recommended. Only the music didn't quite fit the ambience. A little too modern.

Despite stress, always in a good mood

We were a slightly larger group and made reservations in advance. Nevertheless, we waited 40 minutes until we were allowed to place our food order. When asked how long the meal took, the answer was about 20 minutes. Still waited another 45 minutes for the food. After we complained, we were insulted and yelled at by the staff or boss. Only some of the food we ordered was brought to us. (Inserts were forgotten). According to the staff, we would never have ordered this, but there were enough witnesses at the table. We also received a cheeky answer for this. When you're treated like that as a guest, it no longer matters what the food tastes like.

The hut itself has thankfully not been renovated and is as quaint as ever. The food is good, rustic and plentiful. Good thing you just have to go downhill after that...

The path to the Köppel hut was pleasant to walk as it was paved except for the last small, very steep section. When we arrived at the top we were warmly welcomed (reservation necessary!) and the wheat was particularly tasty 😋 We had schnitzel with fried potatoes and salad and fried potatoes with fried eggs and salad. Both were very tasty and the portions were huge. The service was very attentive, courteous and nice. The interior and the toilets are very old, but that didn't bother us. We had a lovely afternoon at the cabin!

Went there for dinner on Saturday with a group of 6 and 3 kids. We ordered everything from pulled pork to various soups and pickled herring across the menu. The food was simply great. The service and the rest of the crew were very friendly. Definitely worth a visit. Reservations would be advisable as it is a small, cozy restaurant

Gemütliche Hütte zur Einkehr. Essen ist gut. Leider wurde bereits um 21 Uhr geschlossen, obwohl wir mit einer Gruppe von 18 Leuten da waren, obwohl wir uns vorher angemeldet hatten und dies mitgeteilt haben

Schon lange waren wir nicht mehr an der Köppelhütte, umso mehr haben wir uns auf den absoluten Klassiker gefreut: den Aschenbraten. Ein absoluter Genuß in uriger Atmosphäre die ich seit Kindesbeinen kenne und schätze.

Tolle Hütte mit Hüttenatmosphäre. Es war sehr gut besucht und jeder Tisch wurde schön bedient. Ich werde wieder kommen

Sind von der Kreisverwaltung zum Köppel gewandert, Essen sehr gut, Bewirtung ebenfalls, Ambiente wie seit Jahrzenten, daher sehr gut.

Immer wieder sehr schön, nettes Personal, faire Preise für eine "Berghütte" Bei Radtouren immer ein Pflichtbier.
