Restaurant Kohinoor in Esslingen am Neckar

I ordered through Uber Eats and waited over an hour for my food. When I tried to call the restaurant, it turned out the number was wrong. I finally got through to a woman using the correct number, who told me she wasn't even in the restaurant and needed to check if my food had been prepared yet – even though it should have been delivered long ago. I asked her to look into it and call me back. Instead, my order was canceled without any explanation. Absolutely outrageous and disappointing. I will definitely not be ordering from here again.

Worst restaurant ever!! They cancel order last minute. It happened to me more than 5-6 times. They have no regret and does nothing to change it.

Absolutely awful!!! To put it bluntly! I wouldn't give it any stars at all… Ordered via Lieferando at 5:10 PM, received a call saying it would be a little longer and the driver would be on his way at 6:19 PM, and finally received the food at 7:15 PM. Food: Butter Chicken: The chicken was dry and there was very little of it (the meat definitely wasn't marinated or grilled) - Sauce: no flavor and spicy… Chicken Tikka Masala: There was hardly any meat at all… and what little there was, was very dry! - Sauce: just spicy, no flavor… Chili Fish: The price of €9.90 is totally overpriced for such a small amount! The taste was okay. Chicken Nuggets (Indian Style): An ABSOLUTE OUTRAGE!!!! Overpriced nuggets at €8.50 for nuggets you can buy in the refrigerated section of any supermarket! It had absolutely NOTHING to do with Indian food – the name is a lie and a complete rip-off. Butter Naan & Garlic Naan: a tasteless slab that tasted of absolutely nothing. Of course, the food was also cold. After a long wait and a brief discussion, more than half of it ended up in the trash, and we've now thrown away €55!

I ordered food that came almost an hour late. Food quality pathetic. Desert tasted like it was store bought. They kept lying that the rider is out for delivery. Definitely never gonna order again

Under no circumstances should I order from here!!! I received a call after a confirmed delivery time of 50 minutes and was told the food was ready, but it would take another 10 minutes. Another 30 minutes later, the food still wasn't there. I called and said I had to leave in 5 minutes and was already running low, and the employee just said not to worry, someone was on their way. After another 15 minutes, I called again to cancel the order, but despite repeated calls, no one answered. Meanwhile, the driver called and claimed afterward that he had arrived at the agreed time (after a total of 95 minutes) and had tried to reach me several times (once). Oh yeah, when I said I didn't want to accept the food, which had been ready for 50 minutes by then, and had to leave, the phone hung up mid-sentence. I had to call back several times to even speak to someone. They didn't comply with my request for a refund.

First I will start with Atmosphere it is a small restaurant with hardly five small tables and no wash basin to wash hands and then they Dosent have most of the items in the menu and the order was taken after 40 min wait period and we ordered what they said literally. And the food was tasteless I feel any other restaurant is far better than what they serve here . I will give zero reviews if possible

Unfortunately, it has declined considerably. It can no longer be compared to the old Kohinoor. Lentil soup was very good, but the samosa and the main course were small and bland. The service used to be much more polite and accommodating. I didn't care for the ambiance before, as it seemed almost authentically South Indian. With the current taste, it leaves a rather unloving impression. I've loved going to Kohinoor since I was a child, and the first visit to the new shop was also a highlight. Today, however, was probably the last for a while, as the feedback wasn't taken into account.

Simply terrible. I ordered food for delivery. The delivery time was already an hour, and after the hour was up, the order was simply canceled without explanation. I had already waited a long time, and then, after an hour, I realized that the order couldn't be delivered.

The food was delicious, the portions large and I was very satisfied. The Thali and Biryani were amazing!

We ordered from Chevi Restaurant in Esslingen via Lieferando, and this was hands down one of the worst customer service experiences we’ve ever had. After placing our order, we waited a full hour, only to be informed that the food we ordered was not available. When we called to ask why it took so long to inform us, they claimed they received the order confirmation from Lieferando just 10 minutes earlier. This is completely unacceptable. How long does it really take to get an order confirmation from Lieferando? Certainly not 50 minutes. We asked them to cancel the order — they agreed — and then came back a few minutes later offering Kerala Beef Biryani instead. We only accepted it because it was too late to cook ourselves, but the whole experience was frustrating and unprofessional. This is not how a restaurant should treat its customers — poor communication, delayed responses, and no accountability.

I ordered from Lieferando, and after two hours the delivery was canceled. I don't understand why they make customers wait two hours. Be careful!

No longer exists at this address. We ordered something to pick up and found ourselves standing in front of a closed restaurant. Restaurant has moved... No mention of this on the website or on Lieferando!!!!

Today I had to wait longer to pick up my order and had to watch as other customers' straws were reused and glasses were wiped with sleeves. It's just dirty and filthy in there. It used to be really good; we were regulars 15-7 years ago. Today we were there again, and it was a bitter disappointment. The atmosphere was terrible; a third of the tables were occupied by laptops, delivery boxes, or similar items. The restrooms were pretty run-down and smelly. Apparently, they're almost exclusively focused on deliveries these days; as a guest, you don't really feel welcome. Service was practically nonexistent at first, and the waitresses were in sloppy clothes/sweatpants. The buffet was practically empty when we arrived, but was refilled relatively quickly upon request. Mineral water was stale, and salad leaves at the buffet were wilted. The buffet was quite okay—despite the smaller selection than before. The freshly prepared items were delicious. The prices were rather reasonable. In conclusion: You can order here, and the food is okay. But as a guest, go to the restaurant—definitely not. Those days are sadly over.

The food is always delicious, but the ambience leaves a lot of room for improvement. It's uncomfortable and cool. We still come every now and then, but it's definitely not for a cozy evening with a longer get-together.

I recently went out for dinner with friends and we chose to have a buffet. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. Most of the food appeared to be preheated and lacked freshness. The only dish that felt freshly made was the naan, and that was because we waited at the counter for nearly half an hour. Despite multiple requests to refill the dishes, the staff refused, citing other delivery orders as their priority. It was one of the worst dining experiences I've had.

Best Indian restaurant in the region!

I grew up with Indian cuisine and for me it is simply my soul food. For me, my world collapsed when the Kohinoor in Weil im Dorf closed. I searched endlessly for other Indian restaurants, ate countless dishes that tasted like nothing, and came to the conclusion that I would only cook Indian food myself. A few months ago I discovered Kohinoor in Esslingen on Lieferando. And what can I say? Everything makes sense again! Every time it was simply a taste experience and I was in food heaven. It is cooked properly and no ready-made sauces are used. How do I recognize that? Each time it tasted slightly different. It's consistently good, the meat is marinated perfectly, the lamb is like butter. The rice is nice and fluffy, the naan bread is delicious and the drivers were so so so nice every time. Of course there are dishes that suffer during delivery but I would never blame that, because even though crispy pakoras are a bit mushy, the taste is simply good. I could go on and on about this but to keep it short: this is authentic Indian food in all its glory. You definitely won't be able to get rid of me :)

So the food was okay, but the delivery, sorry, I don't think that's good at all. Unfortunately we only have a 45 minute lunch break, so we ordered food there at 12:00. And it arrived at 12.40. I don't understand why you have the option to choose the time. Thanks for spending our lunch break waiting for the driver. So we had exactly 5 minutes to eat ;) Unfortunately, we won't be ordering from there anymore.

Very tasty food, everything is freshly prepared and individual requests are taken into account. The level of spiciness can be adjusted as desired. The employees are all very friendly and attentive. The price-performance ratio is also very good. For me it is the best Indian restaurant in the region.

Where should I start and where should I end... Normally I'm not that critical, but just realistic. Positive: The taste of the food was okay, but it was cold because it was served too differently and was also a bit carelessly presented. The ambience is not really inviting, you feel more like you are entering a canteen. There is room for improvement here. The service... uncoordinated, sometimes no German and also a bit unmotivated. The food came with a delay, paying took ages, etc. If everything stays like this, I wouldn't come back.

Went there along with 4others to taste the South Indian buffet , it was soo good and also have to mention about the service which was extraordinary and was more than satisfied!! Worth for the each penny which you spend !!!

We placed catering order to them for a small private get together and everything was perfect .they even assist with the customisation which is very rare to find here . All the dishes( veg korma , rajma curry , dal , veg pulao, naan ) was soo good and received many compliments from our guests .Due to traffic food arrived a bit late but was communicated to us !! Will sure order from them for our next event

Unfortunately, I had another bad experience. First of all: one positive thing is that you always get a parking space in front of the building. The food is simple but good, the buffet is manageable and it is replenished regularly. The ambience is very poor (my wife's original words "a bit like being in a train station lobby..."). This is the second time that our voucher from the Schlemmerblock voucher book has been rejected despite prior notice: each time with reasons such as “we no longer accept it” or “the owner has changed”. No accommodation/no apology. It's really strange, because in 2023 and 2024 the restaurant Kohinoor was listed in the Schlemmerblock. After similar problems have been reported in other reviews of the Kohinoor, the system appears to have... We have drawn our conclusions from this and prefer to drive a few kilometers further into Esslingen city center - to the Delhi Palace. The ambience and friendliness are perfect and the Schlemmerblock voucher is accepted there without any problems. Guys, go eat where you can get something for your hard-earned money.

Buffet wasn't huge but adequate. Great taste and good price. The furnishings are a bit spartan and simple. Very important for me: well tolerated without flavor enhancers.

We wanted to eat with the Schlemmerblock, but that was not possible due to a change in ownership. Very annoying. The food was okay but nothing special. The price was rather expensive and we didn't like the ambience.

If you want to taste some South Indian food, then this is the right place. I recommend their Chicken 65 which is so flavourful. Also they prepare fresh South Indian Parottas. You can also try out their Buffet which includes a veg and a non-veg starter, 2 veg and non veg gravies, rotis, rice and a sweet for €15. Few Parkings are also available near the Restaurant.

We had organised a birthday party event at this Indian restaurant. One great offering was from noon we were given access to entire floor area and the staff were helpful in accommodating our requests during the stage decoration process and later stages. The food buffet was great and suited South Indian taste buds as per our request. All our guests were contended and satisfied with the food offerings. Definitely worth a try visiting this restaurant.

While I haven't physically visited the restaurant, I'm subscribed to their monthly dinner subscription service. I've tried dinner subscription in multiple cities over Germany, and this is arguably the best I've had in terms of food (tasty), quantity (high) and pricing (very reasonable, priced low for the quantity)! They're also very receptive to your feedback, and are always open to deliver around your schedule. Akila is also responsive on Whatsapp to take in any changes/cancellations for the next day. I 10/10 recommend it, it is a life-saver for people like me who find it difficult to cook every day.

I had a very disappointing experience at Kohinoor restaurant in Esslingen. Worst food ever , worst customer service, and the buffet priced at 15.99€ was far from its value, it wasnt even worth 5€. Moreover they charged us 3.5€ for 0.4l of water. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Stay away from such places.

Unfortunately online ordering today simply didn't work. I ordered via the menu on their own website, and received a confirmation email stating 1 hour as delivery time. After 1 and a half hours had passed, I phoned up to ask how much longer. Much confusion followed. After being on hold for 5 minutes I was told that they would phone me back. This I refused and learned that the food wasn't even in preparation and it would take at least another (in my interpretation optimistic) 20 minutes. Upon this I cancelled my order and remained hungry and disappointed.

The food is crazy good . If you are very hungry and in need of delicious food you have to come or take out here. It is a must visit restaurant if you are new here .

Great authentic South Indian food. Very tasty seasoned and friendly service

We had dinner here today for the second time since the change of ownership. The first time in November 2023 we ordered a la carte, today we had the chance to try out the buffet. We have been to the buffet more often over the last 15 years and would like to give the new owners high praise today. In addition to the normal, manageable and varied buffet (soup, salad, various main courses and dessert) with a similar variety as before, today we were also able to choose from 3 different types of biriyani. Although the restaurant was busy, the buffet was regularly restocked and the service was very attentive. The dishes are more varied compared to before, you can clearly see the South Indian influence. Everything tasted great and we felt very welcome. However, we still see some room for improvement in the spatial design. Tablecloths, warm colors and more Indian pictures and decorations would make the ambience much more inviting. We are already looking forward to our next visit and more delicious specialties such as Chicken Nilgiri 🤩

We recently met friends there for dinner. Service was ok, food from the buffet was very clearly arranged. The atmosphere was very spartan, the table had no tablecloth and was not clean. We were freezing all evening.

We ordered food here for the first time today. Delivery took place 20 minutes later as requested via Lieferando but was still within schedule. We really enjoyed the starters and the main courses. A minus point is the high minimum order value. Only worthwhile for 4 people or more. But we will definitely order again.

Hatten einen Tisch für 4 Personen bestellt mit Gutscheinbuch. Als wir vor Ort waren erklärte uns der Kellner das dass Gutscheinbuch nur pro Tisch gilt. Wir fragten dann wenn wir an 2 Tische sitzen würden, würde es gelten aber zusammen nicht. Der Kellner kam aus seinen Widersprüchen nicht raus. Wir sind darauf hin gegangen. Jedem Restaurant steht frei beim Gutscheinbuch mit zu machen oder nicht, aber wenn ich drin bin und es gab keinen Pächterwechsel, ist es einfach nur eine Frechheit. Uns wird das Lokal mit oder ohne Gutscheinbuch nicht mehr sehen...

Bodenständiges Essen, sehr freundliche Bedienung und sehr faire Preise. Buffet und a la carte möglich. Hier komme ich gerne wieder her.

Das Restaurant befindet sich im 2. Stock. Hab‘ mir 2 Mal überlegt hinzugehen, weil unten keine Speisekarte aushing und man keine Ahnung hat, wie es oben ausschaut. Die Umgebung ist ein Wohngebiet, dass schreckt ein wenig ab.… Das Ambiente hat mich ein bissel an meine frühere Mensa erinnert, es ist also eher spartanisch eingerichtet, nicht sehr einladend. Ich hab‘ mich gewundert, dass so viele andere Personen anwesend waren und bin daher nicht sofort wieder gegangen. Ein Glücksfall: Hatte das Lamm Curry bestellt und es hat ganz fabelhaft geschmeckt und allen anderen Gästen schien es auch wunderbar gemundet zu haben: Kein Wunder, das so viele andere Personen anwesend waren. Fazit: Ein Geheimtipp!!! Sehr lecker! Falls ich wieder mal in der Gegend sein sollte komme ich auf jedem Fall wieder!

Wir sind seit vielen Jahren Stammkunden in diesem Restaurant und lieben das leckere Buffet. Doch heute sind wir leider enttäuscht worden. Es ist wohl ein neuer Pächter auf dem Restaurant und das merkt man sehr. Das Essen am Buffet war sehr minimalistisch und es gab noch weniger Auswahl als früher.... Das Essen war durchweg scharf, lauwarm bis kalt und ziemlich leergeräumt. Es wurde nach ca. einer halben Stunde wieder aufgefüllt, aber auch nicht alle Gerichte. Der Reis, der zuvor die ganze Zeit fast leer war, war nach dem Auffüllen auch kalt. Beim Salat war keine Salatsauce zu finden. Das Essen, das von den Gästen versehentlich auf den Boden gekleckert wurde, wurde nicht aufgewischt . Um Punkt 14 Uhr wurde uns mitgeteilt, dass das Buffet nun abgeräumt wird, wir waren allerdings noch nicht fertig mit dem Essen. Der Gastraum war mit alten, abgewohnten Tischen ohne Tischdecke bestückt, die Stühle wackelig und alles in allem nicht sehr ansprechend. Eine Renovierung und Ausstattung mit gemütlichen Möbeln plus Grundreinigung wäre angebracht...... Der junge Mann, der uns bediente, war freundlich, hatte aber einen Schlabberlook an, der nicht in ein Restaurant passt. Schade, denn uns hat man als Stammkunden definitiv verloren:-(

Affordable price ,and service was great ,it was too crowded and the buffet was filled as soon as possible. They do serve authentic Chennai style chicken biryani as well ,it’s a must try !!! Recommend highly their biryani!!!

After the new owners have taken over, the service has come down drastically, we went over a buffet last Sunday and the experience was pathetic. The price of the buffet has increased since the last time we visited but the varieties were decreased. They were searching for basic things like spoons and tissues when we asked.

Das Mittagsbuffet wurde die 1,5h die wir hier vor Ort zum Essen waren nicht aufgefüllt. Nur auf Nachfrage wurde etwas Reis gebracht. Das Essen an sich war ganz nett, allerdings viel zu wenig. Ein Getränk am Tisch wurde in einem sehr verschmutzen Glas gebracht, als Begründung wurde gesagt das vorher Mango Lassi in dem Glas serviert wurde. Geschirrspülmaschine und Poliertuch können da weiterhelfen, Tipp einer ehemaligen Service Kraft.👋🏽 Zudem schmeckte die Cola Light abgestanden, die Cola wurde gewechselt, aber es gab kein Entgegenkommen. Wechselgeld wird nicht rausgegeben. Die Rechnung kommt auf einem händisch geschriebenen Zettel. Mittagsbuffet ist ganz klar keine Empfehlung! Der Laden generell ist ganz klar keine Empfehlung!

Went for lunch buffet. Food was good (both vegetarian and non vegetarian). The staff was also friendly. Only the ambience was not good but hopefully it'll get better soon.

Sind zufällig dran vorbeigekommen und haben erfahren das der Besitzer gewechselt hat und das Restaurant ganz neu wieder aufgemacht wurde. Der Service war sehr herzlich und zuvorkommend. Es gab eine kleine Vorspeise und einen Nachtisch aufs Haus (sehr lecker!), viel vegane Auswahl und ein gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis:) Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Wir sind zufällig hergekommen und das war echt ein Glückstreffer. Wie es scheint haben die Besitzer gewechselt und alle Angestellten waren unglaublich nett und sehr um den Service bedacht. Ich hatte Lamm Korma was ich dann gern als vergleichsreferenz zu anderen Lokalen nehme und es war super! Safran und Mandel war in jedem Löffel zu schmecken und das Lamm butterzart. Ich hab das ganze leichter empfunden als die mehr sahnelastigen Soßen wo auch der Geschmack der Gewürze etwas untergeht. Fand es wirklich sehr gut. Denke durch die Neueröffnung gab es noch bischen probier goodies. Samosa ohne Bestellung als Vorspeise und auch noch einen kleinen Nachtisch auch ohne Bestellung 😊 vielen lieben Dank dafür und auch für die sehr herzliche Bewirtung und Bedienung. Wir kommen wieder! Klare Empfehlung und auch für diejenigen, die von den Vorbesitzern nicht so begeistert waren, Ihr solltet noch mal herkommen. Ps. Meine Partnerin ist Veganerin und hatte eine große Auswahl an Gerichten und war auch durchweg zufrieden. Sie schreibt denk ich Ihre rezi selbst ;)

Ein abendlicher Verlegenheitsbesuch und zufällig entdeckt. Lecker lecker!! Lohnt sich auf jeden Fall. Nur nicht an heißen Tagen, da keine Terrasse. Nicht von der Zugänglichkeit abschrecken lassen.

Wir sind aufgrund der guten Bewertungen zu diesem Restaurant gegangen und wurden leider enttäuscht. Die Servicekraft war sehr unfreundlich und hat uns wie von oben herab behandelt. Die Portionen des Essens waren sehr klein und im Vergleich zu anderen Restaurant für diese Größe sehr teuer... Ich kann keine Empfehlung geben.
