We enjoyed the 5-course menu with a small wine pairing and a truly delicious beer. The service was flawless, and the chef himself stopped by after the meal. Very commendable! The meal (actually, including all the in-between courses, no fewer than nine!) started off a bit subdued (e.g., a delicate broth, which I didn't quite understand), but the lamb (with blueberries, among other things) and the lentils with cherry flavors served with a ponzu egg were truly, truly masterful. Interestingly, they work a lot with ice cream. Overall, every course was at least an 8/10. A must-treat for Oldenburgers! It hasn't existed here before, and it urgently needs to be preserved.

Well intended is not always well done Unfortunately, our visit to Kevin Gideon's restaurant this weekend was quite ambivalent: very good service, but in the context of a 5-course menu, the main course was unfortunately a complete failure; What was announced was lamb, an “update” was announced on Shortcut on site, which unfortunately turned out to be a maximum 3 × 4 cm piece of more or less just fat for all 4 of us guests, and unfortunately not only at our table, but also at the neighboring table and behind us... Unfortunately, the service's offer to compensate for this with an additional dessert did not work for us, our plates were returned. To save our honour, it must be said that a well-prepared meat dish alternative came (albeit at our explicit request). But…. As a chef, do you really believe (probably with ambitions of a star restaurant) that you can “make fun” of all the guests one evening, along the lines of “maybe the guest won’t notice” or the guest will just accept it? The repeated assurances from the service staff (who were visibly uncomfortable with the whole thing) that Kevin Gideon would like to discuss this again at our table; came to nothing; When we left the restaurant after more than 90 minutes, the chef was still joking with the guests at the table next to us who were probably less critical. Well….with the artfully prepared, but of course very small portions, I think you can expect consistent quality for the menu prices quoted…. We would have liked to have discussed all of this on site, but if the chef doesn't have the stature to accept well-meaning criticism in person, but then two days later you receive an email asking you to comment on the quality of the evening... then you read this publicly here 🤷🏼‍♀️ Conclusion: you can do it that way, but you don't have to...

The visit to Kevin Gideon started as a Christmas present 2024. After various recommendations, we looked at the restaurant and its concept yesterday. The interior design impresses with great attention to detail, but does not appear overloaded. Clear lines and dark colors convey coziness. The menu started immediately with a greeting from the kitchen, the selection of drinks is large but not extensive. The menu impresses with its appearance and very well coordinated compositions. Even if you can't always meet the taste of every guest when it comes to one or two little things, it was still very tasty. The service was friendly and professional but not intrusive. The boss himself took time for a personal conversation at the end and after 4.5 hours we left the restaurant completely satisfied. See you next time.

It was a poem! On Wednesday March 5th We were Kevin's guests and were also very lucky to sit at the chef's table. There we had a direct insight into the kitchen and were able to see up close how the food was prepared for the guests. The menu offered a variety of flavors, textures and colors. In the almost four hours we were constantly surprised with new tastes. The 5-course menu could not only be upgraded, but was also complemented by a variety of greetings from the kitchen and a surprise course. Eating out at Kevin's isn't just about eating, it's an experience. Furthermore, I can't forget to mention the outstanding service and the really great atmosphere. The staff is well trained, knows the food and provides a variety of drink accompaniments. The restaurant is always worth a visit!

On a normal Thursday evening at Kevin Gideon's, ending an "odd" birthday with very good food - a nice idea. It's also good to hear that the small restaurant on Theaterwall has reopened. With a bit of luck we'll stop there for the Easter walk. And see if a bottle of water with your meal costs €10 there. You can do it, but you could also make a statement. A very nice and good restaurant with professional and friendly service. We chose the five-course menu, which actually consisted of nine courses. Every single course was convincing and was well crafted. Of course, tastes vary and so it happened that my companion and I sometimes saw very different courses as our favorites. Nevertheless, apart from our personal favorites, we found all courses to be very good and extremely tasty. The quality of all dishes was high and all were visually very appealing. Due to the number of courses we were more than sufficiently full and the menu price was also put into perspective. In retrospect, we even found 100 euros to be quite cheap, considering that we were dining in an upscale restaurant with special standards and that the number of courses was higher than announced in advance. The staff was very friendly, professional and organized and attentive almost all the time. The only point of criticism here can only be seen at the end of our menu. After the last course we sat there a bit lost as no one came to our table for a while. The same phenomenon could also be observed at the neighboring table. I would like to see a little more attention from the staff here in the future. Still a great team. The atmosphere is beautiful, very modern and simple. I particularly like that the tables are spaced sufficiently far apart so that you have a pleasant, private space feeling. The glass kitchen is also great. I enjoyed observing the kitchen team, so you get an insight into how the whole team works and the respective areas of responsibility of each employee. Transparency is always convincing to me because it signals to a restaurant that it has nothing to hide. A great restaurant.

As a family we were very excited about this evening. Based on the reviews and photos, we assumed there would be culinary fireworks. Unfortunately this was not ignited at all. As examples of our disappointment: A dumpling with kale, which was unfortunately cold and therefore tough. The fish course with zander and kale, which was lukewarm. The potato not salted and watery. The tartare was not seasoned appropriately. The fried salad smothered in wasabi mayonnaise. A wild boar that has been cooked to perfection but loses all sophistication due to the fact that sometimes tasteless gels are served as a side dish. This is very reminiscent of baby food. The vegetarian main course was on the same basis: a beetroot well cooked, smothered with a blueberry terriyaki sauce and served with gels. All courses were served with the opposites of cold and warm, which resulted in the dishes being lukewarm. The cold version was always served with ice cream, which meant that every course tasted extremely sweet. It felt like you were in an ice cream parlor that served savory dishes. The service tried too hard to be relaxed and friendly. Didn't respond to our criticism at all. Instead, they stoically praised each next course positively - peppered with information that was personally irrelevant. At the end the patron / chef came to us and asked if we liked it?? Much to our surprise, the criticism we expressed after each course was not passed on to him. In my opinion, the goal of bringing a Michelin star to Oldenburg is too high a goal that cannot be achieved with such effort. The price of 426.00 euros hurt. Especially since a cheese sandwich was eaten at home to satiate (and also to get rid of the sweet taste of the ice cream).

It was a great evening in which there was a best-of of the most popular courses at the end of the season and we were surprised to be able to choose between 6.9 and 12 courses. We chose 6 courses and that turned out to be an understatement as there were numerous greetings from the kitchen, surprises and a great variety of desserts that were not on the menu. The menus were available with meat/fish and also as a vegetarian option. The wine accompaniment also had a variant with and without alcohol. The service was extremely attentive and throughout the evening every waiter came to our table and explained a different course to us, which we found to be very pleasant and varied. The food was a great play of different flavors and textures and was accompanied by the alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Overall, a highlight that we won't soon forget. We would like to thank the entire team for the great evening and wish you a wonderful Christmas time.

It has been more than two years since I wrote the review below. Today is time for an update: The Kevin Gideon restaurant has since changed locations and has grown up, both spatially and culinary-wise. The surroundings: The old half-timbered farmhouse on Donnerschweer Straße in Oldenburg exudes a wonderful vibe thanks to modern furniture, cool background music and a very relaxed, culinary-competent service team. I don't know of any other restaurant in northwest Germany where you can eat so comfortably and so beautifully. The experience: First of all, we are regular guests. We enjoyed the November menu this evening. We have known Kevin's kitchen for a long time. The seven-course menu that we were able to enjoy today can best be compared with a fine long-playing record: Each plate is carefully composed, the sequence of dishes is perfectly arranged, from the crazy mackerel with mandarin to the delicate pink deer with radishes and garlic to the sour cream. Caviar mustard banger, a wonderful arc of suspense. Kevin has always been the master of the sweet-sour-spicy game, and he has continued to perfect it over the years - tonight all the way into Starland. Plus (thanks, David!) great wines and a very crazy non-alcoholic drink accompaniment (someone has to drive), which rounded off our experience. Sure, we'll come back, again and again, anyway. But the friends we invited this evening do the same. … Anyone who already knows Kevin Gideon's cooking from the “Haus Uptmoor” in Lohne will immediately feel at home in their first restaurant. The exciting interplay of sweetness, sourness and spiciness, the casual plate design, the lightness of the six-course menu - great, as expected. And yet different, the dishes come out of the open kitchen even cooler, even more surprising. There the young master celebrates his usual casual precision, which not only appeals to gourmets, but to everyone who dares to taste good. A wonderful evening, also thanks to David Maaß, whose relaxed service and appropriate wine recommendations round off Gideon's menu perfectly. In short: No star on the door (yet), but something worthy of a star on the table. Cheers!

When I go out to eat, I enjoy dishes that I wouldn't easily make myself at home. I also love variety of flavors. This is why I love eating at Kevin's. Apart from the signature dishes (eel burgers or beef tartare croissants as an amuse), the menu changes monthly with top quality seasonal products. Strict attention is paid to intolerances, and suggestions and ideas are also welcome. There are two menus to choose from, so vegetarian dishes are no problem. I was particularly excited about the current menu for November (burata/fennel/orange), the combination was completely new to me. The cheese “embraces” the fresh/fruity and harmonizes the bitter notes. MEGA 🥰 I can't understand the previous speakers' criticisms about the lack of exquisiteness of the ingredients with a view to the Michelin! With the help of Michelin, I have been able to get to know several restaurants from 0-3 🤩 nationwide over the last two years due to my job. The implementation in supposed TOPS was sometimes very variable in quality. The most important thing is the taste, the sustainable and respectful handling of food and that the focus is on the product! All of these aspects are taken to heart by Kevin Guideon and his team. Some people might be happy about less lemon dashi on their plate 😉 but that's something to talk about 🤗 and we all know that sometimes the same plate more or less corresponds to our own taste... In addition, a restaurant also has to deal with the to suit local conditions and guest preferences. For a while you could “level up” individual dishes (caviar, duck liver/Wagyu, for example). If there is no demand, I would refrain from doing this as a boss. I can partially understand the issue of service. The team is currently in the transition to the “high season”. Some of the employees also support us in Kevin’s Corner. In addition, a wonderful non-alcoholic menu accompaniment is currently being developed. That will definitely happen. If you really want to, you're sure to find a fly in the ointment everywhere 😅 I, for one, like to drive a little further to get here and enjoy the cuisine. The stylish furnishings are inviting and you immediately feel at home. Despite the restaurant being full, you (two of us) sit separately so that you can enjoy your time privately. The young, dynamic service was great. Very attentive, professional and yet there was still a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. So it doesn't seem stuffy. The 7-course menu was great. Everything was harmonious, we liked it very much and the quality was very good. The portion sizes for each course seem small at first, but in the end we were sufficiently full that the portion sizes were appropriate across the courses. You pay a hefty price for drinks, but it is justified in terms of the great food, the ambience and the experience.

Die Küche ist innovativ und bringt die Aromen zum Punkt, der Service ist lässig, aber gut ausgebildet und unterstützend. Besonderes Highlight: Die optimal zu den Speisen abgestimmten Weine. Alles in allem: Wenn Sie sich mal was gutes tun wollen……buchen Sie einen Tisch ( Lokal war ausverkauft ) Das Preis Leistungs Verhältnis passt, natürlich dem Aufwand angemessen, so 200 € „ plus x „ pro Person sollten Sie kalkulieren. We had a table for 2 people and the 7-course menu with an alcoholic and a non-alcoholic drink accompaniment. The menu itself was fine. Overall, only three courses really impressed us. The rest seemed rather unimaginative and sometimes felt repetitive over the course of the menu. The portion sizes of the courses that we liked were so small that they gave us serious doubts about the higher price. The drink accompaniment itself was appropriate and adapted to the menu; we particularly liked the non-alcoholic drink accompaniment. Unfortunately, the biggest criticism of the evening was the service. You have to know that the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage accompaniment is served by two different sommeliers. Because of this, it unfortunately happened with almost every course that either my companion had already gotten a drink with the course, this course was already at the table and despite this I sometimes had to wait 10 minutes for my accompanying drink. Due to our great interest in fine dining and following recommendations, we visited the Kevin Gideon restaurant. Unfortunately, a reservation was only possible late (8 p.m.), which meant the evening lasted until after midnight, which was a bit late for my taste. The small parking lot for about 6-8 cars was already full, so we had to park 200 meters further away. Upon entering the restaurant we were amazed at how beautiful it looked inside. It is very reminiscent of a modern wine cellar. Unfortunately, we had to wait at the entrance for a while (5-10 minutes) until we were shown to our table. That was a bit of an uncomfortable feeling because you were in an open restaurant and felt like you were being watched by the other guests. The service staff was very friendly and helpful. The first name came as a bit of a surprise and it took me a while to get used to it. However, you felt very welcome. The food was... “interesting” to say the least. We chose the seven-course menu. Since I don't eat arthropods or offal, fortunately there were vegetarian alternatives for me. Almost every other course had a bizarre ice cream component, such as: B. Mustard ice cream or dill ice cream, which in my opinion didn't go well with the dishes. The restaurant is very confident in its eel course, which consisted of a spicy eel broth, an eel burger and eel with potatoes and lovage. The “bun” of the burger was meringue, which was very overpowering on the tongue, with a very strong smoky flavor. The other courses were more mediocre. Mr. Kevin Gideon went from table to table at the end of the evening to collect feedback, which I found very positive until I gave my opinion. If you ask me for my opinion and I express it honestly, I find answers like “Never change a winning system” and “We have good reviews” difficult to understand. What was the purpose of guest feedback if the restaurant ultimately doesn't care what the guest thinks? I am disappointed with the price-performance ratio. I cannot understand the current Michelin recommendation because I have known cheaper and better restaurants that have no stars or recommendations.

What else do you want to say? The reviews speak for themselves. Simply great! It was so great that we forgot to take pictures. I can recommend everyone to eat there. I particularly liked the fact that we couldn't choose what we ate, but rather the menu dictated it. Otherwise I would never have ordered liver, but it was delicious. So I definitely recommend it!

My restaurant visit to Kevin Gideon. We were in Oldenburg on Friday to visit Kevin Gideon. We were excited to go there after being picked out by the Michelin Guide and were warmly greeted. About the restaurant itself: it was very nice, modern. Unobstructed view of the kitchen. The furnishings were rather dark. What was noticeable was that when you entered the restaurant you had a bad air around you. This air smelled of fried fish... After a while the smell naturally disappeared, but at first it took some getting used to. Service: You were directly on a first-name basis with the staff, which was a bit irritating, because normally in the evening you start talking to the guests and build a bond.... I lacked professionalism!! Otherwise, the youngest member of the group was the one with the best service. Very attentive and always polite! On the wine connoisseur did a very good job!! When it comes to the food, you have to say that it didn't meet expectations (based on the price). For the price of a star-rated kitchen, you simply have to and can expect more taste, more sophistication and more clarity. At a price of 140 euros.... With a 7 course menu you simply expect that all courses taste good. Unfortunately, the zander dish was very tasteless and the all-burger was served on a bisque roll, which just didn't fit. The duck was also served rather blandly with a teriyaki sauce, which simply stole the show from the duck on the plate. The Amus, on the other hand, was absolutely a hit and you can hardly do it better. The atmosphere was also great. Overall, the meal simply lacked excitement.... I just didn't feel like eating the next course. Trying and discovering wasn't really fun like at Jante or Aqua where you were already longing for the next course. In general, you just have to say that it wasn't enough for the price. One star, it seems, is still a good mile away Conclusion: when you read the Michelin Guide you have the feeling of eating in a restaurant where a lot is still missing... You can only agree with that. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the price-performance ratio isn't great either.

Our occasion was our 44th wedding anniversary and it was truly celebratory. The menu gave us aromas and flavor combinations that we had never experienced before. We really enjoyed it. There was also very friendly but not “stiff” service. The ambience is modern and fits the idea that defines the kitchen. The outside of the building was surprising. In the region, half-timbered buildings are more likely to be found in home-style gastronomy 😊 But it goes well with the modern interior. It was a very nice evening for my wife and I.

Very nice reception, great welcome with small delicacies to start with, wine advice, and off we went with the 5 course menu. Very warm due to the temperatures, no air conditioning. -> Unfortunately, the cutlery was forgotten to be set even though the food was already there, so it took a long time between courses, 3 desserts were too sweet for us personally / we would have preferred one more savory course. (This is a matter of taste, others may see it differently) Some of the empty plates stood in front of us for a long time. In the end we had to leave urgently and despite repeated requests the bill only arrived after 30 minutes. All in all it was a very nice evening - we lacked perfection for the price.

The new location is very cozy and there is almost a “living room atmosphere”. Lovingly furnished, with beautiful details. When it comes to service, the service has been taken a step further and leaves nothing to be desired. The new monthly ticket is once again full of surprises and various little highlights. All of these delicacies were perfectly rounded off by the stunning wine accompaniment, which had at least as many highlights. You can tell with every bite and every sip that there is a team working here that wants to pamper the customers and make them feel comfortable in their roles. Hammer! The food is very good for Oldenburg standards! There is also little to complain about in terms of craftsmanship. Unfortunately, I had the feeling that the dishes were put together with a very citrus-heavy focus. Of course it could just be because of the map (June 2024). In principle there's nothing wrong with it, but it all seemed "very similar". The ambience in the beautiful thatched house is really suitable for the restaurant and you just feel comfortable. Unfortunately, the service was a bit too lengthy for me. The dishes can also be served a little quicker here. Unfortunately, my jacket was accidentally taken from the cloakroom by another guest. However, the staff were able to sort this out and I received my jacket back the next day. It would still be better here if the employees who received the jacket also gave it back and didn't let the guest search for it on their own, simply to avoid such misunderstandings. Because that had somewhat spoiled what was actually a lovely evening.

The Kaiserküche is a relatively new restaurant near Oldenburg Central Station. It is run by a young team and seems to have star ambitions. But that doesn't work: Poor selection of wine accompaniment, these in small (i.e. approx. 100 ml per course) portions: It wasn't allowed to be tried beforehand, that's unusual. The Pinot Noir from Alsace was very bitter and we didn't finish it. The wine accompaniment is also too expensive for the portion size. Staff did not respond adequately to direct communication and criticism of this wine selection. We didn't like the taste or texture of the dishes (cheese course, salsify), only scallops and veal roulade were ok. the food was very expensive. Next time I'd rather go to a traditional pub. Funny: I can't upload my (critical) review and there are almost exclusively 5 star reviews. A rogue who thinks evil of it.
