Restaurant Kastanienhof in Marl

Nach langer Zeit waren wir heute wieder mit der ganzen Familie in diesem Restaurant essen. Leider war dieser Besuch eine große Enttäuschung. Bereits beim Empfang wurden wir von einem Kellner bedient, der äußerst unfreundlich wirkte und den Eindruck vermittelte, keinerlei Interesse an seinem Job zu haben. Bei der Aufnahme der Bestellungen machte er sich ausführlich Notizen. Ich änderte mein Gericht von Putensteak in ein Schweineschnitzel mit Pommes statt Reis – eine einfache Änderung. Meine Oma bestellte das Spargelmenü mit Schnitzel und Spargel. Trotz mäßiger Auslastung des Restaurants mussten wir lange auf unser Essen warten. Als die Gerichte schließlich serviert wurden, fehlte bei meiner Oma der Spargel. Der Kellner behauptete daraufhin, sie habe keinen Spargel bestellt, und verwies auf seine Notizen, in denen tatsächlich nur „Schnitzel“ vermerkt war. Dass der gesamte Tisch die ursprüngliche Bestellung bestätigen konnte, interessierte ihn offenbar nicht. Erst auf Nachfrage brachte er einen Teller Spargel nach. Auch mein Essen wurde falsch serviert. Statt des bestellten Schweineschnitzels erhielt ich das ursprünglich bestellte Steak. Wieder bestand der Kellner darauf, dass keine Änderung vorgenommen worden sei. Merkwürdigerweise hatte die Änderung von Reis auf Pommes jedoch problemlos funktioniert. Erst nachdem mein Mann sich am Empfang beschwerte und mehrfach nachfragte, wurde mir schließlich das richtige Gericht gebracht – zu einem Zeitpunkt, als der Rest der Familie bereits fast fertig gegessen hatte. Der nächste Ärger folgte bei der Rechnung: Meiner Oma wurde das Spargelmenü nicht berechnet, sondern zusätzlich 15 € für den nachgereichten Spargel. Laut Restaurant habe sie diesen „nachträglich bestellt“, obwohl der Fehler eindeutig bei der Bestellaufnahme lag. Wir kennen dieses Restaurant noch aus früheren Zeiten und haben dort stets gute Erfahrungen gemacht. Umso enttäuschender war dieser Besuch. Fehler können passieren, entscheidend ist jedoch der Umgang damit. Statt Einsicht zu zeigen, wurden wir mehrfach als Verursacher der Fehler dargestellt. Das Essen war durchaus in Ordnung und verdient 4 Sterne. Der Service hingegen war eine absolute Katastrophe und leider der Grund, warum wir dieses Restaurant künftig nicht mehr besuchen werden. Essen: 4/5 Sterne Service: 0/5 Sterne Ein derart unprofessioneller und uneinsichtiger Umgang mit Gästen ist für uns nicht akzeptabel.

Einfach nur lecker und reichhaltig

Seid Jahren Stammkunde, aber diesmal zum Geburtstag meiner Frau wurden wir enttäuscht. Wie immer, 300 Gramm Filetsteak für Sohnemann, meine Frau indisches putenmedaillion, ich wie immer 300 Gramm Rumpsteak. Mein Sohn hatte in seinem Filetsteak eine große Sähne, mein Rumpsteak musste ich leider zurückgeben, da es wirklich roh war. Anstatt ein neues Stück Fleisch zu bringen, wurde mir das Steak vom Teller genommen und nachgegrillt. Den Blumenstrauß, den ich bestellt hatte, war völlig okay, aber die Fleischqualität lässt mittlerweile zu wünschen übrig. Ich werde dieses Lokal erst mal meiden, da es diesesmal nicht meiner Vorstellungen von einnem guten Steakhaus entsprochen hat.

Sehr schönes gemütliches Restaurant mit einem liebevollen Serviceteam. Auch die Küche kann sich sehen lassen.

Servus zusammen! Zu meiner Schande muss ich gestehen, dass ich als Marler noch nie im Kastanienhof war. (Leider) Wir waren Gestern zufällig zum ersten mal dort und müssen sagen, das vom Service bis zum Essen alles perfekt war. Super freundliches Personal, das Essen war auf dem Punkt und das Ambiente hat definitiv gepasst! Wir werden definitiv wiederkommen, denn gute Gastronomie wird immer seltener und umso schöner ist es, wenn man solche tollen Gastronomen in der Nähe hat. 2 Personen, zwei tolle Essen ( Rumpsteak und Fisch ), 2 Karaffen Wein, 2 Nachtisch. Knapp 100€ und das vollkommen zu recht! toller Service und Qualität. Danke für den tollen Abend!

Wir waren gestern Abend mit 6 Personen im Kastanienhof. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen, der Tisch war schön eingedeckt, und wir wurden zügig von einem gut gelaunten Kellner bedient. Das Essen war spitzenmäßig. Es wurde zwischendurch immer wieder nachgefragt, ob alles in Ordnung sei. Wir waren mit dem gestrigen Abend sehr zufrieden und kommen immer gerne wieder.

Das Essen war Extrem gut, das Ambiente ist wunderschön und nach dem 5 mal hier habe ich nicht eine unfreundliche Interaktion mit einem Mitarbeiter erlebt. Definitiv weiterzuempfehlen.

Schade, gestern eiskalt, Tür auf, Durchzug. Der freundliche Kellner hat dann geschlossen doch der Raum wurde während unserem Besuch nicht mehr warm. Mein Gatte Gulasch, ich gönne mir den Spargel mit Hollandaise und Butter! Der dazugehörige Salat vorweg passt da nicht so gut beim Spargel. Doch erst kommt im Mittagstisch eine Suppe. Super, die macht sicher warm. Hustekuchen! Der Koch war schwerst verliebt, die halbe Tasse Brühe mit verkochten Nudeln und Gemüseresten (ohne Fleischeinlage) war total versalzen. Das Hauptgericht: Gulasch lau gewürzt und das Fleisch recht fetthaltig. Spargel: 2 Kartoffeln, 6 Stangen Spargel, 6 halbe Scheiben Schinken. Hollandaise normal Tetrapack, doch die Butter? Damit habe ich mir die erste Kartoffel verderben!! Das war im Leben keine Butter! (Bei Butter bin ich Spezialistin, ich liieebe Butter!) Es sah nicht aus wie Butter, es schmeckte ölig und es hatte einen deutlichen, fast chemischen Fehlton. Über 25,- € für das Gericht und dann noch 3,50 für die Extra-Sauce. Nee!

Wir haben Steak gegessen, kurz und knapp meine Bewertung. Essen sehr gut. Service wurde von einem älteren Herrn unauffällig und diskret in hervorragender Weise erledigt. Ambiente bisschen in die Jahre gekommen aber okay. Parkplatz reichlich vorhanden. Preis für die Leistung insgesamt prima. Viele Grüße und viel Spaß

Es gibt wirklich nichts zu meckern. Das Essen ist top, die Atmosphäre ebenfalls, und auch Mitarbeiter*innen sowie Service sind einfach super. Man schmeckt, dass die Gerichte mit viel Liebe zubereitet werden. Auch über die Portionsgröße kann man sich nicht beschweren, es bleibt immer was fürs Abendessen übrig!

Kellner 1 Stern. Früher waren häufig zum Essen dort. Das Essen war ok....geschmacklich nichts besonderes. Das Fleisch nicht gut gewürzt. Ambiente ist nett. Der Kellner geht gar nicht. Unfreundlich, räumt den Tisch ab, obwohl nicht alle Gäste fertig sind. Rechnung auf den Tisch gelegt und wir mussten selbst alles auseinander rechnen. Der Kellner kann nicht lächeln und das Wort danke und bitte kennt er nicht...geht gar nicht

Am Dienstag ist Schnitzeltag Mit Vorsuppe einem Salat den man sich selbst zusammen stellt! Die Schnitzel egal ob Pute oder Schwein sehr lecker 😋

Wir waren letzte Woche zum zweiten Mal im Kastanienhof. Sehr leckeres Essen, gute Qualität und gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Freundliche und kompetente Bedienungen, gemütliches Ambiente. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Wir hatten einen Fenster Platz reserviert und wurden sehr freundlich begrüßt. Das Essen war sehr lecker 😋 und die Bedienung sehr nett und aufmerksam.

Solides Restaurant, für viele von uns Tradition und Nostalgie gleichzeitig. Wir waren zufrieden, auch wenn wir mehr erwartet haben und uns an bessere Zeiten erinnern.

Nach einem Spaziergang in der Nähe und anschließendem großem Appetit auf etwas Deftiges sind wir spontan dort vorbei. Super nette, zuvorkommende Bedienung! Das Essen war auch hochwertig und schnell zubereitet. Kann ich guten Gewissens empfehlen!

Wir fühlen uns dort immer wohl. Von der Begrüßung bis zur Verabschiedung, wird sich um die Gäste gekümmert. Preis Leistung stimmt auch.

Nie wieder!!! Unfreundliches Personal. Zu kalt, sparen an der Heinzung. Fleisch nicht durchgebraten. Und die Krönung : 2 Haare im selbe essen. Da beschwert man sich und die Aussage vom keller, tja passiert mal. Unglaublich 😡😡😡😡😡

Waren jetzt zum 4 Mal dort, sind immer freundlich begrüßt worden, der Service ist sehr aufmerksam und das Essen immer erstklassig.

Ich habe den Schmortopf "Kastanienhof" bestellt und war sehr enttäuscht. Das Filet war sehr trocken, das Gemüse (Möhren, Broccoli) sehr groß und lieblos geschnitten und zu wenig Sauce. Nachdem der sehr nette junge Kellner nach dem Essen gefragt hat, ob alles ok war, mischte sich von hinten der sehr unfreundliche Chef ein, schob den Kellner zur Seite mit den Worten, das ist NUR der Kellner und ich bin der Chef...., diskutierte mit mir rum... Nahm null Kritik an, kein Pardon oder ähnliches... Auch die Salattheke war sehr "übersichtlich", die Salatgurken fingerdick geschnitten!! Uns tat nur der freundliche Kellner leid, wir haben auch nur bei ihm bezahlt und Ihm ein ordentliches Trinkgeld gegeben.

Wir waren heute zum Mittagessen da. Der Kellner war schon beim reinkommen so miesepetrich da hat man sich doch richtig willkommen gefühlt. Das wurde auch nicht besser im Laufe der Zeit. Das Essen war gut. Aber als ich auf der Rechnung dann gesehen habe das man sogar für zwei kleine Tütchen Ketchup und für die Box wenn man sich das übergebliebene essen einpacken lässt bezahlen muss das ist nicht mehr schön. In anderen Restaurants gehört das zum Service. Hier werde ich so schnell nicht mehr hingehen da gibt es angenehmere Restaurants wo man sich auch willkommen fühlt.

Definitiv zu empfehlen. Sehr freundliches Personal ,sehr leckeres Essen ,sehr angenehmes Ambiente sowohl innen wie auch im Sommer draußen. Trotz der Nähe der stark befahrenen Straße ist es ruhig und angenehm.

We've been to the Kastanienhof several times now. We always look forward to the classic German cuisine with Balkan influences. It's down-to-earth cooking that truly knows its craft. The service is attentive, motivated, and always friendly and helpful. There aren't many of these classic restaurants left where young and old alike feel comfortable.

The schnitzel at Kastanienhof was really good. It was tender, freshly breaded, and nice and crispy. They also offered several delicious variations. Add to that a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. A lovely restaurant. We'll be back!

We spontaneously decided to go to the restaurant and got a table immediately, even for six people. However, neither the service nor the food was particularly recommendable. The atmosphere was very cozy and spacious, but I wouldn't visit the restaurant again.

Very friendly service, both during the phone reservation and upon arrival. The service was quick and attentive. The food was excellent, with delicious appetizers, main courses, and desserts. A small complimentary appetizer was also a nice touch. The salad bar was absolutely fantastic. Everything was truly wonderful.

We love going there, especially on schnitzel day on Tuesdays. The schnitzels are truly delicious, hot, and crispy, because the meat sits on top of the sauce, not poured over it like elsewhere. The salad buffet is also very varied, and the appetizers (olives, bread, and dips) are always delicious. The staff is always friendly and attentive. However, we once had a steak platter for two, which we were disappointed with, hence the one-star deduction in the food rating.

It's simply fantastic what the owner has built up there. We celebrated a 100% successful golden wedding anniversary there last holiday. You could tell from the service that he's been through his paces. The sheer number of drinks, and even cutlery and dishes, that were being lugged back and forth... Hardly any waiting time, and everything was spot on. I don't want to know what was going on in the kitchen. The boss himself sat down with us for the last few minutes and chatted a bit. Where do you see something like that? All-in-one value for money. Amazing. Thanks to the entire team for the sensational evening. My parents will never forget it. And neither will I, of course.

We arrived at the restaurant around 8:00 PM. Since we hadn't ordered right away, the waiter was already provocatively looking at his watch! We, with three people, were assigned a table for four because someone was too lazy to properly set another table. This table was also only set for two people, and cutlery, appetizer plates, and napkins were more or less thrown onto the table. The food was borderline substandard! An onion soup as thin as water. A smoked salmon with hash browns, the roast not homemade. Frozen little mini hash browns, still dripping with fat, and four slices of salmon; 12 euros?! The portions of the main courses were perhaps sufficient for a retiree. They were skillfully arranged with mountains of onions or, as with my Kastanienhof pan, thickly sliced ​​carrots so that my two pieces of fillet at least rose above the edge of the pan. We were deeply disappointed! The older waiter was a disaster! We won't be back....

The food was good! The service, however, was unfortunately abysmal: A table was reserved for 8 p.m., but the opening hours were given until 10 p.m. Immediately upon entering the restaurant, they looked at their clocks in annoyance when we couldn't order our food within two minutes of arriving. A short time later, we ordered, ate, and then they wanted us to leave. At 9 p.m., they informed us that they were about to close, and from then on, they constantly stared at us, so we left at 9:30 p.m. because it was very intrusive and unpleasant. When we asked if they weren't actually open until 10 p.m., they told us, "We'd like to go home at some point." - Fine, then please stop accepting reservations for 8 p.m.!! There are very similar restaurants nearby that I can recommend.

We had fillet steak with fried potatoes. The steak was very good, and so were the fried potatoes. The service was very friendly. The salad buffet was excellent. Highly recommended.

Four of us went out to dinner on Sunday. Unfortunately, the old head waiter wasn't in a good mood. We had reserved a table by phone. Unfortunately, we couldn't get into the winter garden, even though several tables remained free there during the two hours. At 6:00 PM, the restaurant was busy... Our appetizer plates weren't cleared away, and the head waiter didn't react at all, but instead shoved the plates into our hands... My plate didn't look appetizing at all. Due to the careless presentation, the sauces had run, and the steak knife was smeared well beyond the handle. What a shame. The food used to be delicious, too, Which wasn't the same on Sundays. It was supposed to be something nice for my birthday... What a shame... So next time, I'll go somewhere else.

I'm from Wolfenbüttel, the home of Jägermeister, and visited my daughter, who lives here. It's incredible how friendly, quick, and attentive the staff is, not just to us, but also from what we observed at the other tables. Ultimately, though, it's all about the food, and it was fantastic—so tasty, freshly prepared, simply delicious. We were extremely satisfied!

May 29, 2025 - There were four of us there. I had the Westphalian farmer's schnitzel (€19.90). Then I had hot chocolate with cream (€3.40). The other guests' special requests were accommodated, and the service staff were consistently polite and prompt. The food itself was excellently prepared: the schnitzel was cooked to perfection, the bacon was excellent, the egg was just right, the fried potatoes were perfectly seasoned, and the combination of onions and bacon was perfect for my taste. The pictures show it. All in all, it gets 5 stars. November 18, 2024 - There were ten of us there for our AGM. The restaurant was very busy in the evening, and the staff were very attentive. I'm writing this just for myself. The drinks orders were taken promptly, and the food was excellent. As I'm used to. I'm therefore giving it 5 stars again. ***** November 15, 2023 - Two of us at 12:30 p.m. Friendly service, reasonable wait time, mushroom soup as a starter, paprika cream schnitzel, and fries. That would round off the dish nicely and would be a unique selling point! Service was prompt and very attentive. I'm happy to give it 5 stars again this time. ***** June 6, 2022: 1x mushroom schnitzel, 1x grilled "Curasco" plate. The quality was good as usual. Fresh mushrooms, delicious sauce, and the schnitzel was tender. The grilled plate was also beautifully presented, and the meat quality was top-notch. It's a shame they don't offer homemade croquettes. We'd give it a try. That would be a good idea. Staff super friendly and attentive. We'll be back. ***** March 20, 2022: Finally a visit here again. We ordered 1x grilled plate and 1x Westphalian farmer's schnitzel. Good value for money. Fast and friendly service, no long wait. Restrooms clean and nothing broken. One tip, though: Check the chairs in the dining room. One or two of them are a bit loose in the screws. All in all, I'm happy to give it 5 stars. ***** March 1, 2020: After a brief drop in quality at the end of 2017 and the end of 2018, the standards were back to a high standard today. There were four of us, and the liver, grilled meats, and Westphalian farmer's schnitzel were all impeccable. The quantity was finally sufficient again, and the taste was top-notch! Please maintain this standard at last.

We had a platter for two, which we wouldn't order again. I had a piece of liver, and you could see it was full of tendons and impossible to cut. My steak was cooked through, and the replacement was medium but lukewarm. The buffet was very well stocked. The waiter was a bit hard to reach at times, even when ordering. We were expecting a bit more.

A very nice, homely restaurant where you can feel at home. The food is delicious and of high quality. The staff are extremely friendly and cater to your every need. We've loved going there for years and will continue to do so. Thank you!

Overall I'm satisfied! We were there for work, so it was my first time there. Food was delicious and large selection. My cordon bleu could have been fried a little lighter, but otherwise it was delicious. In terms of price, I would expect a little more in terms of taste and portion size. The salad buffet was terrific! Ambiance and furnishings are great. Prompt service. However, the service colleague should have been friendlier and more sensual. Didn't seem friendly to me. We ate there on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, we were all disappointed. The menu was just an abridged version of the normal menu. Unfortunately, the dish was also more economical than usual. The prawns also looked rather raw on a skewer. For barely €27 is quite overpriced. The other plates looked similarly sad. The faces at the next table also did not light up with happiness at the sight of the selected dishes. However, the service staff who served us was very friendly. Overall, unfortunately, muted joy. We were guests at the Kastanienhof with 10 people on Christmas Day. I had a pepper fillet steak with fries and salad from the buffet. My steak was cooked to perfection and we didn't have to wait very long. In short, my dish was perfect and the pepper sauce was very tasty. There was a reduced menu because of Christmas. Unfortunately there were only 2 dishes for vegetarians on the menu. A tomato soup and a spaghetti dish. For a vegetarian there was very little choice, so a point was deducted because my companion had virtually no choice. But the dish was very tasty. The service was always very nice and courteous.

Ambience is quite nice. But for 28 euros I don't expect mixed dumplings made from powder. The red cabbage also came from a can. The marzipan apple on the plate was also quite dry. I didn't taste any marzipan there. In hindsight, I should have ordered something else.

Had dinner there on Sunday. The service seemed listless and annoyed. The meat on my grill plate was a lot but unfortunately dry and very little seasoned. In the second dish, a steak, the cognac sauce also had no taste of cognac but was more like a packet sauce. I can't understand the many positive reviews. Too bad.

We were there for lunch on a Sunday. It was full, so reservations are recommended. Even though it was full, the volume was pleasant and it was easy to have a conversation at the table. There is a very extensive menu here with many good sounding dishes. The wait for the food was okay, but worth it. The 5 dishes were tasty and decently sized. We'll definitely come by again.

A classic "Yugoslav". Large portions, great value for money and the staff is super accommodating. The furnishings are a bit old but that gives the whole thing a certain charm. Always happy to come back. Keep it up

Delicious, salad buffet could be better. Steak was really tasty. I like it medium rare and that's what I got even though the staff didn't ask for it. Lucky. Fried potatoes hmm rarely eaten so well.
