We were there yesterday with three people. The staff greeted us warmly and took our coats. We then ordered frittata soup, duck, and Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake). The frittata soup was very meager, containing only three frittatas. It also included two carrots. Charging €9 for that is rather questionable. The duck was unfortunately very dry. The Kaiserschmarrn, at €21, was not at all tasty; it was rubbery and not worth the price. We spent €200 and unfortunately had a very negative experience. The service and ambiance were good. We wouldn't go there again.

*A review of our company event at the restaurant yesterday* I'd like to briefly share my experience of our company event at the restaurant yesterday. As a former private chef to the Austrian ambassador and a long-time employee of renowned restaurants like Borchardt and Lutter Wegner, as well as after many instructive years at Raneburger, I can offer the following assessment: *Service:* To be honest, we had absolutely nothing to complain about. On the contrary, the service was always attentive and exemplary, both personally and professionally. Thank you so much! *Food:* From a culinary perspective, however, there was room for improvement. The portions were definitely too small. It seems they've mistaken fancy-schmancy cuisine for good Austrian fare. My Tafelspitz (boiled beef) was adequate with four slices, but the two mini-rösti were rather disappointing. The apple horseradish was okay, but nothing special. A freshly grated apple with horseradish would have been quite appropriate at that price. The chive sauce reminded me more of mayonnaise. And there simply wasn't enough spinach. *Suggestions for Improvement:* - A gluten-free option for the schnitzel would be desirable and wouldn't be particularly complicated, but it would give people with food intolerances an option. - I personally would have liked the option of raisins with the Kaiserschmarren (shredded pancake). *Conclusion:* All in all, it was a pleasant visit, but not necessarily worth a second visit. Perhaps the restaurant could consider some of my suggestions and improve the food.

Delicious German/Austrian food, try their dessert!

We celebrated a friend's birthday on Friday. The server was super attentive and the food was incredibly delicious.

Unbeatable restaurant, very tasty dishes - I had cauliflower and langoustines. The most delicious cocktails and very friendly staff!

I've eaten here several times and, as a vegetarian, am grateful for the fairly mixed menu. The new approach in the newsletter, however, has me crossing the street in the future: "The Gärtnerei is back – with more soul, humor, and schnitzel than ever. What was once a hotspot for creative veggie cuisine is now a modern, feel-good place for anyone who longs for honest food and genuine hospitality." The advertised baby cow (Tafelspitz) doesn't appeal to me any more than the Wiener (veal) schnitzel. Always on the little ones...

Average We had vegetarian food, and I didn't think the value for money was quite right. The food was good, but the price wasn't appropriate for the simple ingredients. A 0.7 liter bottle of water for €7.50. Maybe that's normal in Berlin. 🤔 I found the service rather superficially friendly. We didn't have an aperitif or wine. In the end, we had two items on the bill that we didn't even have. This was subsequently corrected, but it took a while. All in all, we felt a bit like second-class guests, if you know what I mean.

The food and service are wonderful (if you're upper middle class). The atmosphere is especially bad when it comes to the people around you: an almost unbearable, hard-core bourgeoisie, posh decor, and ugly, probably outrageously expensive paintings on the walls. Well, even those in the middle class who earn more should have the chance to enjoy fabulous, mostly vegetarian food.

Nice, bright shop, with a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere and relaxed but very good service. The food was great, and very fairly priced. Drinks also very good!

Everything was good but nichts hat einen richtig vom Hocker gehauen. Starters were ok. Salad definitely too vinegary ( too sour ). Broth very good. Asparagus excellent, Dumplings were disappointing. Too stodgy. Dessert very good. Asparagus cocktail wasn’t as expected.

Simply, my favourite restaurant in Berlin! The Austrian-based cuisine blends innovation and tradition in the most delicious dishes imaginable (tafel-spitz vies for attention with delicate vegetarian concoctions and sachetorte chocolate pudding). The service is impeccable and knowledgable without ever being pushy.

Der beste Österreicher in Berlin! Wir haben uns alle Klassiker gegönnt. Schnitzel ein Traum, zarter Tafelspitz wie in Wien, Spinatknödel und Käsespätzle sehr gut, Kaiserschmarren Wahnsinn, wurde am Tisch geteilt und mit Eis und Pflaumen serviert. Hatten zusammen zwei Flasche Wein. Schöne Atmosphäre, nettes Personal. Sehr zu empfehlen, gelungener Abend!

Very nice menu and really tasty, regardless of whether you order vegan, vegetarian or with meat. The salmon marinated in coffee as a starter is highly recommended. Has a nice intense aroma. Wine selection is also excellent. Would definitely come back again.

Coming back home after a meal in this modern German restaurant along Torstaße in Mitte, only really one question was bothering me.....is this the best German restaurant I have been to in Berlin? Answer to follow. It's busy so booking is a must and there are plenty of reasons why. Firstly, the service and atmosphere in this place can not be faulted. The menu is specifically very Germanic and very authentic. I also love the fact it fits on one page....there is no need for pages and pages of choice when it's this good. Extensive vegan and vegetarian options all over the menu, including a nice 3 course vegan menu for €40. However, other menu choices to satisfy those meat eaters out there do exist including, and ironic when confronted with so many vegetarian dishes, a beef tartare for a choice of starter. It is a very unusual offering nowadays and my favourite dish of all time. Having fought the urge for uncooked meat, we went with a nice fish course and boiled beef, and both of these were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The accompanying sides with the beef were all incredible, especially the creamed spinach and horseradish. An excellent, very relaxed experience with first-rate menu and service. Yes, it's not particularly cheap. We had 2 mains and 2 drinks and a bottle of water for €100. BUT... Let's be honest here and say that this price is not unusual in Berlin, and we have eaten far worse for more than this, so.... This is indeed, hands down, the best German restaurant I have been to in Berlin so far. We will return, and we will bring the kids next time. Highly recommended.

I always enjoy coming to this restaurant! The music, the food, the service is simply calm and yet so loving and on top. Finally no hip service staff who want to be your friend. that's annoying in Berlin. A shop that still maintains its standard in all areas even after years (I come back more often at long intervals). So I love gardening.

I recently visited the Gärtnerei restaurant in Berlin and was amazed by the quality of the food. My vegan main course was perfectly prepared and tasted well. My companions' main courses (Wiener Schnitzel) were also convincing. The Kaiserschmarren was superbly prepared, baked in the oven and not caramelized, which made it less sweet and sticky - a definite 10/10 for me. However, the service left a lot to be desired; we waited 30 minutes for our first drinks and one was even forgotten. I expected more from the ambience. As a former regular at the butcher shop, I found that the concept here wasn't entirely consistent.

Absolutely recommended. Can't rave enough. So it was a wonderful evening for my wife and I. Always my pleasure.

Tasty food, big portions, beautiful design

I can highly recommend the restaurant. Well-kept service, very attentive and friendly. The food is beautifully prepared and I am sure that almost everything here is freshly prepared. The shrimp were amazing, great sauce. The fillet steak was excellent quality and to the point, only the fries were average. Kaiserschmarrn is a huge portion, actually for two or three as a dessert, there is also ice cream and plums. The price is high, but the ratio is right.

Hübsch eingerichtetes Lokal, das eine entspannte Atmosphäre ausstrahlt. Sehr freundlicher Service, Leider waren die Gerichte nicht alle perfekt. Dem Kohlrabi-Gang, eine der Vorspeisen, fehlte es an Würze. Beim Ceviche verlor sich der Fisch im Orangensaft. Das Saibling-Filet hätte ruhig größer sein dürfen. Der Kaiserschmarrn, der frisch zubereitet wird, erinnerte eher an einen überbackenen Pudding. Die Wildgarnelen und das Wiener Schnitzel waren gut. Die Cocktails waren ebenfalls gut. Die Weinauswahl , überwiegend aus Österreich, hat für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei.

Nicely decorated restaurant that exudes a relaxed atmosphere. Very friendly service, Unfortunately, not all of the dishes were perfect. The kohlrabi course, one of the starters, lacked spice. With the ceviche, the fish was lost in the orange juice. The char fillet could have been larger. The Kaiserschmarrn, which is freshly prepared, was more reminiscent of a baked pudding. The wild prawns and the Wiener Schnitzel were good. The cocktails were also good. The wine selection, mostly from Austria, has something for every taste.

The steak was very good, but overall we didn't think it was particularly good. The Kaiserschmarren wasn't that good. The waiters could be more professional.

I found the atmosphere quite pleasant and the main course, the spinach dumplings, were good. Unfortunately the service was quite lackluster. The starter (bird salad) was simply swapped for a Caesar salad without comment because the one we ordered was no longer in stock.

One of the most beautiful restaurants in the city with great food! Last week we had dinner with friends at the nursery - and what can I say: our expectations were more than exceeded! 😍 The service was fantastic, there is a great wine list and the food is absolutely delicious! 🙏🏼 Particularly noteworthy was the wonderfully seasoned ceviche, as well as the terrific steak and, at the end, the best Kaiserschmarrn in the entire capital! I have never eaten such good Kaiserschmarrn in Berlin - it is simply a poem! At the end we had a recommendation of the day: the Pornstar Martini cocktail - incredibly good! Many thanks to Iris for this brilliantly mixed drink and for packing the rest of the Kaiserschmarrn - it tasted just as good for breakfast the next day as it did in the restaurant in the evening 😍 We will definitely come back and are looking forward to it! An absolute recommendation! Be sure not to miss this culinary gem when you visit the capital again - it is one of the best restaurants in the city! 🙏🏼

I heard a lot of good things about the restaurant so I came here today. I sat outside and the atmosphere here is no more special than other places. What is particularly noteworthy is the friendly service staff. I had a delicious cucumber aperitif that I didn't know before and was recommended. For dinner I ordered a large portion of shrimp. The meal took a relatively long time. In my opinion the shrimp were overcooked and almost fell apart. So it was quite a challenge to peel them by hand. The table looked the same afterwards. There was a finger punch for the hands.

Wow, nothing was missing. The service was great and the food was so incredibly delicious! Thank you for a lovely evening! The aperitif, the prawns, the fillet, the schnitzel… everything was fantastic!

We had a great evening! The food was excellent (kohlrabi passion fruit and a fantastic sourdough bread as a starter, Wiener schnitzel and salmon as a main course). The presentation of the food was very nice and the name of the restaurant was beautifully reflected in the menu because of the local vegetables. Good wines and very attentive service rounded it off for us. Only the ambience in the restaurant could be a little fresher. But definitely a recommendation for us!

The service staff on site is top class! I have rarely experienced such great and friendly service employees as here. Unfortunately, my companion's meal, a Wiener Schnitzel, was not at all okay. It wasn't crispy and was difficult to cut. In addition, the lukewarm potato salad with cucumber was very hot, it looked like it had been put in the microwave. I, however, had spinach dumplings. They tasted and looked great and came with a small salad. The only thing I would have to complain about would be the price, which is very high and hardly reasonable. We had a raspberry sorbet for dessert. It was fantastic. The bar manager also mixed me a wonderful non-alcoholic cocktail, which was also great. Our visit was on Wednesday, July 11, 24.

We liked the atmosphere and the friendly service. Given the ambition and prices, we were expecting much more from the food. The green asparagus starter was quite meh, not the best quality of produce and basically just four pieces of asparagus with an uninspiring sauce. Similarly the spinach knödel were ok but certainly overpriced for how standard they were. Overall would not return for a second visit.

We expected more from the gardening business. Both about the food and the ambience. I can't say anything about the ambience because it doesn't mean anything... Food... comes to mind spontaneously: tuna tartare, mini mini portion, you can hardly taste it because these pastry cases mask the whole taste. Breading from the Wiener Schnitzel is more than bland. Asparagus is a good portion for a restaurant, but still really crunchy. Our bottles of wine were chilled but not chilled. There was nothing from the house! Neither an amuse howl nor anything after dinner. When asked if I should bring some bread, we generously answered yes, but we also had to pay very generously for it...

This is a restaurant I would recommend people to go to who do not live in the neighborhood. The food was extremely inventive. The menu is not large and this allows the chef to concentrate on each and every dish. Yes, a vegan can get a great meal in this restaurant and yes, a meat eater can also get a great meal in this restaurant. they have it absolutely well planned wine menu. And save room for dessert.

It tasted good, but for me it wasn't so outstanding that I would come back. Maybe a bit marred by the waiting time being too long because there were staff shortages. I ordered the schnitzel straight away because when it comes to fine dining you always have to worry about not being full. The hollandaise sauce was more of a mayo. As already mentioned in other reviews, the price/performance wasn't good for me either. I found the seat very narrow/squat and uncomfortable, but ok.

When you think of gardening, you think of a vegetarian or vegan restaurant. But that's not it, rather very good Austrian cuisine (of course with schnitzel, but also with good vegetarian dishes), extensive and interesting wine list with an Austrian focus, friendly service, very high prices (for Berlin, not for Mitte). It does not present itself primarily as an Austrian restaurant. From the other reviews I gather that it's the discrepancy between expectation and reality that annoys people, rather than what actually exists. I liked it a lot, I can highly recommend it.

The restaurant with the wrong name. At a vegan, vegetarian restaurant called Gärtnerei, I expect bright rooms with lots of glass and even more greenery. Unfortunately, the opposite is the case: plastic green and a dark cubicle with far too many Austrian wines. The chef knows his business and the dishes were excellent. If you don't value atmosphere, you can eat very well here, all other first-time visitors will wonder how you can call this place a gardening center, yes, the Austrians can!

Wonderful creative food, great service, reasonable prices for such high quality and amazing cuisine. We were a party of eight, kids were thrilled and so were the adults - meat classics made top notch and really special vegetarian options

It was really good but not amazing. The flavours didnt surprise me, except for the dessert which we ordered a kind of cake made in a pan with ice cream and plums which was really good. Also if you want a cocktail, the basil smash is great!

Wonderful atmosphere with very good food

While it's starting to be listed by Michelin, it has no star yet, but we'll on its way. The Topinabur starter was tasty if a little mild, but very interesting new ingredient to use. The apple icecream desert was my highlight. It was fresh and creative in the flavors it combined and how it was presented. My main was a schnitzel. Have to say next to the starter and desert, this was a tad boring. Still, very well cooked.

It was one of the most delicious Schnitzels I've ever had. If you haven't tried the Schnitzel here or are genuinely seeking a tasty one, don't hesitate to place an order. Alongside the Schnitzel, they also serve a small plate of potato salad, which was average I would say. We ordered an Apple Spritzer as a beverage, but it wasn't excessively cold or overly fizzy, which didn't meet our preference. We chose to sit outside, but for our next visit, we'll definitely opt for indoor seating as it was not very comfortable outside. Particularly, the unevenness on the road near my seat affected the chair balance. While not the restaurant's fault, but still a solution could be found. Overall, it was a satisfying experience at Gärtnerei. Looking forward to returning and trying the indoor ambiance. Thank you!

this is honestly one of the worst restaurants i’ve eaten at in berlin. the service was polite, but slow, and the presentation was good enough so two stars for that... but the food was terrible. it was like well-presented conference food. three courses and every single one was ACTIVELY bad. i don't even know how to explain the way in which the food was just bizarre. it was like the flavor version of uncanny valley, like think a salad that gives carrot cake vibes but in a way that just makes every bite feel uncomfortable. avoid avoid

First of all: eaten and drank very well. I had Wiener Schnitzel, starter of beetroot. The service seemed a bit hectic, but had everything under control. The tables are a little too close together for my comfort, fortunately not all of them were occupied. Unfortunately, there is also a significant price increase here: I seem to remember that the Wiener Schnitzel still cost €26 in 2022. Now 23% on top = €32.

Ich war hier vor ein paar Jahren das 1. Mal und fand das Essen damals unglaublich lecker. Nun war ich wieder da und mir hat es diesmal leider überhaupt nicht geschmeckt (ich habe ausschließlich vegetarische/vegane Gerichte probiert). Die Vorspeise mit Tomaten war ziemlich langweilig, der Hauptgang mit Spitzkohl und das Kokoseis als Dessert waren leider gar nicht mein Geschmack, schade!

Am Dienstag (4.04.2023) waren wir hier, es gab leckeres Wiener-Schnitzel! Wir waren sehr zufrieden und die Kellner waren sehr aufmerksam und freundlich! Super Service und Freundlichkeit, wir kommen bald wieder. So eine nette Bewirtschaftung hat man selten!

I was amazed that i was abled to get a table, since i reserved very short notice. Arriving at the restaurant i received a warm welcome from my extremly friendly waiter. As entrèe i was going with the gardeners tartar, which was precisely my kind of taste. Nothing overly extravagant, but with a little twist. In this case a little crunch delivered by mashed nuts. For the main course i had "Spinatknödel" and what can i say? I am a simple man, give me spinach and a good bergkäse and i will be happy. Overall a very nice experience and i would not mind to revisit the Gärtnerei. My solely complaint would be, that the furniture was clearly style > functionality. My table was rather loose and uneven, which is very impractible during a diner ;).

Alles in allem ein runder Abend. Vom Essen bis hin zum Service alles stimmig. Geschmacklich hat es uns sehr gefallen. Tolles Essen! Wir kommen wieder! Danke!

We waren 13 minuten te laat en onze gereserveerde tafel was al weggegeven. We werden onvriendelijk ontvangen en konden nog aan de bar gaan zitten. We zijn maar vertrokken. Wat een schande!

Wir waren zu viert hier. Das „Tatar“ hat absolut fade geschmeckt und wurde auch nicht aufgegessen. Für den Preis eine Frechheit. Das Schnitzel und Kartoffelsalat waren in Ordnung. Der Kaiserschmarrn war kein Kaiserschmarrn und hatte auch rein gar nichts damit zutun. Das Ambiente viel zu dunkel. Die Preise für die Qualität an Essen nicht gerechtfertigt. Schade!

Zu Brot und Butter (2,00 €) keine Teller, so das die Krümel somit in den Polsterecken sich wiederfinden. Die Spinatknödel als Hauptgericht (3 halbe?für 23 €) mit Nußbutter (welche nur zerlassen war) wurden samt Salatgarnitur auf einem warmen Teller serviert. Unvorteilhaft für den Salat! Das Wienerschnitzel blätterte die Panade schon beim anschneiden ab. Der Kabeljau (als Hauptgericht - übersichtliche Portion) war sehr gut. Aber unser Fazit: Wir kommen nicht wieder.
