Restaurant Athena in Lübeck

Very friendly waiter, good food, and a well-maintained restaurant. We were treated the same as everyone else with our discount voucher, and the portions were generous.

The food was delicious. The senior server was grumpy and disinterested, the junior server loud and hyper. The outside temperature today was -3°C, inside it was a maximum of 15°C; this was only mentioned with a tired smile. They offered a complimentary ouzo, but the regulars at the next table got eight – good for them. We'd rather eat Greek food somewhere warm. It's a shame, it used to be different.

Honestly, I've rarely encountered such unfriendly service. The moment we walked in, it was clear we weren't welcome. And when we showed them our 2-for-1 coupons, the atmosphere turned completely sour – they were incredibly rude and utterly unprofessional. Even though the place was practically empty, we waited ages for our food. And for what? For something that was practically tasteless. If it takes that long, you'd at least expect decent food – but no such luck. The location doesn't help matters either; I definitely don't want to go back. To sum it up: unfriendly, slow, bad food, bad location – never again.

The restaurant has a good vibe, mostly for the older crowds, tasty food and friendly accommodating staff

We ate here for the first time on November 16, 2025 (thanks to the Schlemmerblock discount booklet). We received a warm welcome, and the staff was very friendly and attentive (but not at all pushy). The food was delicious and arrived at the perfect time to enjoy our salad and chat over a drink. In conclusion, I have to say that I haven't had such delicious gyros in what feels like 20 years (well-seasoned and perfectly crispy). We will definitely be eating there more often in the future. By the way, it's quite wise to reserve a table (the restaurant is very popular).

We've been coming here for many years, but today we were disappointed. Perhaps there's a different chef; the meat was overseasoned, and the spit was quite tough. Please reconsider; you're such a great place.

The welcome on an early weekday evening is friendly and reserved. The menus (clean, clear, wide selection) are brought promptly, as are the drinks (non-alcoholic beer and a 0.33 l pilsner each for €3.80). The ambiance is that of a typical Greek, long-established, and somewhat dated restaurant. The table runners are clean, as are the pepper and salt shakers, color-coordinated with the runners. The food arrives after a reasonable wait. My choice: grilled chicken breast with vegetables, tomato rice, and salad for €14.90. The salad (iceberg lettuce, cabbage, carrots) tastes crisp and fresh. The meat in the main course is tender, but unfortunately too lightly seasoned for my taste. The vegetables disappoint me: overcooked, broccoli and cauliflower practically crumbly, visually unappealing. The rice tastes good. The request for payment was only granted after two attempts and a long wait, even though the restaurant was far from full with four tables occupied at the time. Conclusion: It's okay, but not my first choice.

Yesterday we had a delicious meal with 12 people, everything was perfect, keep it up!

The boss seems very unfriendly and should perhaps retire. It was our last visit.

We ate here this evening with friends using a voucher. A member of staff greeted us warmly. As a welcome, we immediately received an ouzo on the house. When we mentioned the vouchers (2 for 1) when ordering, the mood among the staff changed somewhat. The waiter seemed very unfocused. First, he brought us food that wasn't meant for us. When our food finally arrived, he spilled sauce on the table without a word of apology. When I ordered drinks again, I was brought a shandy instead of a beer, which I noticed too late. I then drank it. There was dried red wine on the bottom of the wine carafe, even though we had ordered white wine. When we asked the manager about it, he said angrily that it couldn't be cleaned and that he would be happy to give us a brush so we could try it ourselves. Unfortunately, all of my five lamb chops were very dry and tough. When the waiter asked us if everything was okay, I told him. He just said that his customers like their food cooked very well. My friend's plate had sharp edges and was chipped. The whole atmosphere was not very inviting. We sat outside and there was old tape stuck all around the window ramen, which should be easy to remove. All four of us agreed that we shouldn't leave a tip here. When it came time to pay, the waiter asked us what we had eaten and drunk. Of course, we didn't remember exactly what it was called or what the number of the dish was. The waiter disappeared again and then came to the table with the bill. When we paid without a tip, the waiter got really angry. He told us not to come to his restaurant again because after all, we had been given an ouzo and a meal for free, so you can expect a tip. We have decided not to eat there again anyway because there are far better Greek restaurants in Lübeck.

We visited Athena for the first and last time. Unfortunately, the gyros was served cold and was completely salty, with burnt spots. A moldy tomato piece is also unacceptable.

After ordering by phone, I wanted to pick up the food. Although the order was repeated over the phone and it was stated that it would be available for pickup in half an hour, they apparently hadn't ordered any more. The unfriendly response was: "You see what's going on here! You'll just have to place the order again here." That was the last time I wanted to pick up food there.

Overwhelmed staff, had to wait a long time for the food, no bread was served with the salad (even though the menu states that bread is served with the salad). When we asked!! we were told: We're out of bread!! Absolutely unacceptable!! We had the impression that the kitchen was poorly organized, which had a negative impact on the restaurant's operations.

Despite ordering from the children's menu, a "large" plate was delivered. When we pointed out the large portion, they said our children eat more. However, they charged us for a portion from the "regular" menu. When I objected, they rudely replied, "I can't change that now." Very unfriendly staff. We sat outside, and when it cooled down and the sliding doors for the "inside" diners were closed, we were no longer noticed. No one asked for dessert or more drinks or asked to pay. Out of sight, out of mind. Lonely and deserted.

Yes! Absolutely. The amount of food was barely manageable. The gyro wasn't too crispy, so it was juicy. There was no excess fat. The ground beef steak wasn't too salty, nor was it overly seasoned (with herbs, for example). The price was reasonable.

We came here with the Lübeck voucher booklet to get to know a new restaurant. It will not be led to our favorite resturan.

The taste was awful! The gyro was overpacked with Metaxa sauce and cheese. The cheese was completely stuck to the lid of the aluminum tray. The fries were soggy and lacked any seasoning. Delivery was quick. I thought about ordering from a fast food restaurant because the food there often doesn't taste as good, and I was hoping for good taste from a restaurant delivery, but I was proven wrong.

We were there spontaneously. There wasn't much going on. Were greeted friendly and served quickly. There is nothing wrong here. Food was good and plentiful, as you would expect :) I haven't seen a separate smoking area for a long time. To the toilet right past the kitchen... strange, but if you don't want to go through the smoking area, there's no choice. The issue is really cleanliness. They could work on it a little. The toilet looks relatively new. Then why have an exhaust fan that makes you wonder what is dripping down there? Conclusion: we left full, there was nothing to complain about about the food.

Very nice little Greek restaurant with very good food, very nice service and a good atmosphere. If I lived in Lübeck, it could very quickly become my favorite Greek place.

We recently had dinner at this restaurant and were looking forward to some traditional Greek cuisine. The ambience doesn't exactly invite you to linger for a long time, the seating is worn out and the entire furnishings have seen better days and appear worn out. Now I come to the worst part of the evening and this is the service. I was greeted by a nice young man who took my order, but when we made a complaint we were treated so harshly by the manager of the house, who made a rude and very unfriendly, ignorant impression on me, that as a result I no longer go to this restaurant will visit. The boss has no politeness or hospitality whatsoever, you should eat your food and keep your mouth shut. I don't know that from my holidays in Greece. There are much better alternatives in Lübeck where you can remember your holidays in Greece.

The food was tasty, but I would have hoped for more from the portion size and the side salad was also quite spartan. (A bit of iceberg lettuce and coleslaw no cucumber, tomato, onion etc.)

The Greek restaurant Athena in Lübeck is a real insider tip! The cozy atmosphere invites you to linger, and there is even a separate area for smokers. The food is not only delicious, but also available at fair prices. Definitely worth a visit!

We come here often, the food tastes excellent. Gyros gratinated in particular are highly recommended. Our server was extremely attentive, friendly and professional. Never again - especially not as a disabled person!! The restaurant was very full - and therefore loud. We were seated at a table of 4 with 6 people - even though we had reserved well in advance. There was absolutely no help at all when it came to putting the wheelchair somewhere - they made it clear to us that disabled people were not welcome in this restaurant. You just don't know where to put it. It was actually expected that my husband would eat in a wheelchair - and not just sit on a chair (which, thank God, he can still do). The food was carelessly "slammed" onto the table and we had to ask several times for drinks. The staff was thoroughly unfriendly. The food itself was okay - nothing special. Maybe it was because of the vouchers we had. Only: if you don't want to have new guests, you shouldn't take part in the "Schlemmerblock" campaign. We definitely won't come back for THE "treatment"!! Oh yes, the crowning glory was the end. On the way to the toilet just before we left, I walked past open buckets in the hallway with the evening's rubbish - just disgusting!! Something like that doesn't work when there are still guests there - even if they are the last ones.

The food is good, but everyone is always unfriendly. I order via Lieferando and they don't know anything about my order. I'm told not to order through Lieferando because it'll go wrong. Yes, then it doesn't offer it? General unfriendliness with some defects. Not recommended

Unfortunately the ambience leaves a lot to be desired. The tables and seats are not particularly clean and do not invite you to linger for a long time. The outside area isn't particularly nice either. The service is very nice and familiar. The children immediately got something to paint. The food is solid, but I've had much better Greek food.

Have been there several times, always satisfied!! Ordered today with a gourmet book and 2 x gyros plates. You could eat it with lots of tzatziki (ordered extra). Fries were sometimes hard, I also knew the meat better, lots of edges and dry!!!. Overall, we weren't happy at all today. Oops, almost forgot, the portions are not enough for men!!! Savings are being made everywhere!!! It's done for us for now. Too bad

The staff says you can pay by card. Under dubious and cheap pretexts, cash is supposed to be paid at the end. I don't want to make any false assumptions, but it was a very strange situation... Employees try to force tips in unpleasant ways...

So far I've only had experience with one gyro with local delivery <600 meters... the gyro was okay...but unfortunately it was just okay...the fries were latsxhig...mostly my hunger for cigarettes leads me to this place...maybee i try eat in house next time...hope i""ll be astonished...

We were there with a larger group. The number of people probably caused the service to become overwhelmed. When you placed your order you were basically shouted at. I chose the grill plate. The portion could have been a little larger for my taste, especially given the price. The meat was fine in terms of production, but the fries were soaked in fat and were not very enjoyable. The starter salad also seemed a bit bland. Paying with EC CARD was a real struggle. Sometimes the device didn't work, sometimes the staff was simply overwhelmed, so you ended up being criticized if you only wanted to pay by card. The only response to criticism was “there are other places.” Very unprofessional for me. I probably won't visit this place again

We were there in a larger group and we all didn't like it. The service was very bad, we had to wait a long time and were complained about. The next day several of us had stomach pains from eating.

All in all, unfortunately not recommended, the staff speaks to you in a rude, almost military tone. After a long wait, the food wasn't really good either and some had stomach pains or similar complaints afterwards.

We were there with friends (and 2 gourmets). Also 3 small kids. The vouchers were accepted without any problems and of course deducted. We didn't have the impression that we were treated differently / worse. Waiter seemed a bit grumpy but tried hard nonetheless. Overall, good. Food is a matter of taste. All 4 adults thought it was OK but nothing more. Let me suggest the Greeks in Ahrensbök as an alternative. No comparison.

Portions made just for us, nothing was left lying around and we were well full. 😋👌👍 The service was very attentive and the prices were reasonable. Highly recommended! Heute zum ersten, aber sicherlich nicht zum letzten Mal im Athena essen gewesen. Ich wurde sehr freundlich aufgenommen und erlebte einen erstklassigen Service. Das Essen schmeckte hervorragend das Fleisch war zart und saftig, zu Beginn gab es einen schön angerichteten Salatteller mit knackigen, frischen Salaten und einem leckeren Dressing. Zum Dessert genehmigte ich mir einen Schokoladeneisbecher, der wie alles andere auch hervorragend war. Hier stimmt alles. Das Preis/ Leistungsverhältnis und die Qualität! Meine absolute Empfehlung!

Sehr leckeres Essen. Ich kann vor allem die Vorspeisenplatte empfehlen und das Fleisch ist immer sehr lecker. Am besten setzt man sich nach draußen da es innen manchmal sehr laut werden kann. Der Außenbereich ist gepflegt und ist nicht zu laut.

Entgegen der Rezensionen waren wir nicht so zufrieden. Das Restaurant ähnelt einem kleinen Rümpelladen, der Außenbereich ist nicht besonders schön angelegt. Der Service war nett und schnell unterwegs, jedoch ist das äußere Erscheinungsbild eher unangemessen. Das Essen war okay, Pommes ungenießbar und hart frittiert. Kurzum, wir würde nicht wiederkommen.

Seit viele Jahren waren wir treue Gäste. Wie man es allerdings innerhalb der letzten zwei Jahre von "preiswert und gut" auf "teuer und mäßig" geschafft hat, ist schon eine Leistung an sich.

Das Essen war superlecker! Ich habe den Artemisteller gewählt! Sehr zu empfehlen! Ganz besonderen Dank an Pascal, der einen perfekten Service gemacht hat! Dankeschön! Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!

Die Atmosphäre war warm und einladend, und das Personal war äußerst freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir bekamen Empfehlungen und Erklärungen der verschiedenen Gerichte und deren Zubereitung. Der Service war schnell und effizient, ohne dabei an Aufmerksamkeit zu sparen. Das Essen war von toller Qualität und hat unsere Erwartungen übertroffen. Ich kann dieses Restaurant jedem empfehlen, der griechische Küche in einer gemütlichen und einladenden Umgebung genießen möchte.
