Essen geschmacklos man sollte es vielleicht mal mit etwas würzen, brat Kartoffel waren nur blanke sehr schwarze Scheiben ohne jeglichen zu daten wie zum Beispiel etwas Salz

Diese traditionsreiche Gaststätte zählt zu den ältesten in Thüringen mit authentischer Thüringer Küche. So wie zum Beispiel handgemachte Klöße, und viele klassische Gerichte. Darüber hinaus bietet die Speisekarte eine gelungene Vielfalt aus saisonalen Gerichten, mediterranen Spezialitäten sowie Steaks und Fisch alles frisch und mit viel Sorgfalt zubereitet. Das Ambiente in den urigen Gewölberäumen schafft eine gemütliche und zugleich besondere Atmosphäre, in der man sich sofort wohlfühlt und die Thüringer Gastlichkeit durch das nette zuvorkommende Team in vollen Zügen genießen kann. Auch der Biergarten, lädt bei schönem Wetter zum entspannten Verweilen ein. Insgesamt ein Ort, der Tradition, Qualität und toller Atmosphäre. Vielen Dank für den schönen Abend.

Das Essen war gut, aber etwas teuer im Gesamtverhältnis. Wenn man deutsche Küche bevorzugt, dann passt das Restaurant gut. Dafür dass nur einige wenige Tische besetzt waren und da auch nur zwei Personen jeweils saßen hat der Service etwas gedauert. Wir wurden aber sehr freundlich empfangen und bedient. Was für uns nicht so gut gepasst hat, war das Ambiente. Es lief Popmusik (recht präsent) aber die Einrichtung ist entsprechend dem Namen „Alte Post“ ziemlich historisch geprägt.

Ein sehr schönes Restaurant, Tolles Ambiente. Wir hatten uns zum Klassentreffen dieses Restaurant ausgesucht und wurden sehr gut bedient von Tobias, dafür gibt es einen Daumen hoch 👍 Dieses wunderschöne Restaurant hat eine sehr schöne Geschichte. Ich kann es zu 100% empfehlen. Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team für den schönen Abend.

Wir haben dort ein Klassentreffen abgehalten und ich muss sagen echt gute Thüringer Küche Kloß und Roulade waren sehr gut auch ein sehr tolles Ambiente dort abends am Boulevard.

Für Essen aus der Tiefkühltruhe für 17,80€ eindeutig zu schlecht und Portion zu klein… Bratkartoffeln fettgetränkt aus dem Beutel,Schnitzel zu klein und Remoulade aus der Tube kann man auch beim Imbiss essen und da schmeckt es besser. Danach gibt’s eindeutig noch einen Döner! Schade ums Geld!

Ich fande es schade von außen erhofft man sich mehr aber das Essen ist nur Tüte auf und in die Pfanne, danach wird man nicht saat, schade ums Geld!

Sehr empfehlenswert. Tolles altes Gebäude mit Tonnen- und Kreuzgewölben, aufmerksamer und unaufdringlicher Service, sehr leckere Gerichte. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Kooperation mit dem Verein der Saalfelder Bettelmönche, welche den Besuch der Katakomben unter dem Haus in Gruppen oder auch privat ermöglicht. Lediglich um eine Spende wird hierfür für die geleistete Erschließung der Anlage, deren Begehbarkeit und zukünftige Vorhaben gebeten.

Wir haben hier sehr lecker gesessen und wurden bestens vom sehr netten Personal begrüßt und bedient. Wir kommen gerne wieder .

Wir waren am 2. Weihnachtsfeiertag dort, um mit der Familie mit gutem Essen Zeit zu verbringen. Leider wurde daraus nichts. Zunächst mussten alle Gäste vor dem Restaurant warten, und wurden trotz Reservierung nicht hereingelassen. Als wir endlich saßen, warteten wir rund eine halbe Stunde auf unsere Getränke. Mehrfaches Nachfragen, wann wir unser Essen bestellen dürfen, wurde nur mit Vertröstungen beantwortet. Erst nach knapp einer Stunde konnten wir überhaupt bestellen – verbunden mit dem Hinweis, dass wir weitere bis zu 40 Minuten auf das Essen warten müssten. Dazu kam es jedoch gar nicht: Nach insgesamt etwa einer Stunde sind wir frustriert gegangen, ohne etwas gegessen zu haben. Besonders enttäuschend war, dass der Nachbartisch, der zeitgleich mit uns kam, nach einer Stunde nicht einmal Getränke hatte, während Gäste in Eingangsnähe bereits fertig gegessen hatten. Das war für uns absolut unverständlich. Wir waren fassungslos und sehr enttäuscht. Ein weiterer Besuch kommt für uns nicht infrage, und wir können diese Gaststätte leider nicht empfehlen. PS: Die Preise fanden wir ebenfalls sehr hoch – knapp 29 € für eine Gänsebrust bzw. 32 € für einen Hirschbraten sind schon sportlich.

We had lunch at the Alte Post for the second time and everything was great. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly. We'll definitely be back. The price was also reasonable.

I had booked a table for eight people for 1 p.m. on Christmas Day well in advance, back in the summer. We had guests who had traveled all the way from Hermsdorf, and we wanted to offer them a lovely Christmas dinner in a cozy atmosphere. We were rudely turned away by the owner when we tried to enter the restaurant ten minutes before 1 p.m. He said we had booked for 1 p.m., so we stood waiting outside with other guests in -4°C weather. We weren't given a drinks menu. After a 30-minute wait, we were finally able to place our drink order, even without a menu. Since we had planned to go to the theater afterward, we asked if we could order our food. We were told, "It'll be another two minutes," but after 50 minutes, we still hadn't placed our order. Our neighboring table hadn't even received their drinks by then. We had to leave the restaurant without having eaten. A heartfelt thank you to the understanding server who grasped our frustration and offered us a table at 5 pm if we wanted to come back later. We couldn't accept the offer because it wasn't feasible time-wise, and frankly, we'd lost our appetite for the meal. While we understand the Christmas rush, waiting almost an hour just to place an order is unacceptable and very disappointing. Overall, the planning and organization seemed chaotic. When a meal costs around €30, one can expect service that reflects the price. We are very disappointed by this experience and hope that the team and all guests will be able to implement better organization in the future.

The restaurant is located in the pedestrian zone and is therefore not accessible by car. It also has no dedicated parking spaces. The nearest public parking lot is about 400 meters away on foot. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, but unfortunately, due to historical reasons, the restrooms are not. The Alte Post (Old Post Office) is a typical vaulted building from the Middle Ages and therefore has its own unique flair. With its rustic decor, it offers dishes from Italy, the Balkans, and Germany. We ordered a filet steak and a mixed grill. Since the restaurant was fully booked that evening, our dishes arrived after about 70 minutes. The steak, ordered medium, was cooked to perfection, tender, and of very high quality. It was served with French fries and a small salad. The price of €38 was on the higher end, but justified overall. The mixed grill consisted of cevapcici, a minced meat steak, a chicken steak, and a pork skewer, served with French fries and djuvec rice. The highlight was the minced steak, which was seasoned and juicy. The rice reminded me of a trip to Croatia, so this dish also received a very positive review. The price of €24 was reasonable. A children's menu was also available. Since the restaurant's layout consisted of several rooms, its size was initially difficult to judge. The only downside was the noise level, which might not be ideal for those seeking a quiet dinner. However, this was likely due to the loud conversations among the other diners, which on this particular evening was also influenced by the mulled wine already consumed ;-) Overall, a highly recommended restaurant for Balkan cuisine and meat lovers.

A restaurant in a prime location. Extremely friendly staff in a great atmosphere. Delicious food, freshly prepared. You might have to wait a bit longer, but that doesn't matter if you have the time. The service is excellent; the atmosphere is just right. I'd gladly come back anytime.

A very stylish and popular restaurant! The food was delicious, but there was a long wait. After asking several times for the Wi-Fi password, we were told we'd receive it immediately, but it never arrived... A shame. Nevertheless, it's a very good place that I would recommend.

We were disappointed. The food was very greasy. The fried potatoes had barely any color, and the dumplings were mush.

The food is standard Thuringian cuisine, peppered with seasonal dishes. The price is a bit on the high side. But it doesn't fit with the high standards the restaurant aims for when the waiters smoke outside. Yuck.

To the boss: Friday evening, there were still seats available outside. A group of men were personally ushered into the restaurant by the boss with a very friendly smile. A very nice employee greeted us, but had to ask the boss if we could get two seats outside...that's when the mask fell: a cold, unfriendly stare, a downward assessment, no, it'll take a while...in short. Someone showed their true colors...go somewhere where you'll always be treated nicely. Nobody needs that.

It felt like the old boss went out onto the boulevard to smoke every half hour, and later the other staff did too. The side salad wasn't worthy of a restaurant like this: arugula, two slices of cucumber, a slice of radish, a green and a black olive, with oil and seeds on top. The dumplings were overcooked, fries pale, all very annoying meals, no other vegetables on offer. The ice cream order wasn't served as ordered. We simply got nut ice cream without asking, but when we complained it was served afterwards with a comment that he didn't have the other one. When we left the terrace, we weren't even told to leave. I used to like going there, but I was very disappointed that evening. I can't recommend it at the moment.

The food was okay. The Thuringian dumplings were, let's say, a kind of mashed potato with a dumpling flavor. The staff, let's say they were there, but they were conspicuously disinterested. There was no thank you for the tip either.

We made a reservation for 11 people at relatively short notice (an hour in advance). The staff was very attentive and everyone's meals were served at the same time, which was great for 11 people.

We had dinner here and were satisfied with the taste of the food. However, many things are overpriced. Charging €5.10 for a 0.5-liter beer is almost Oktoberfest-level. And €7.50 for a bottle of mineral water is also completely excessive. Other restaurants serving German cuisine in Saalfeld are significantly cheaper and have very good food. With prices like these, we certainly won't be coming back.

We had such a great meal. We'd love to go back. We had roulade with red cabbage and dumplings, schnitzel, salad, and asparagus. Simply delicious.

The menus were brought to us quickly, and a short time later we received our drinks. Unfortunately, our food order was forgotten. An hour later, the same waitress who placed our order with us came back and asked us if we had ordered anything yet. Because she politely apologized, we didn't make a fuss and repeated our order. Another 30 minutes passed. Unfortunately, instead of beef sauerbraten, I was served beef roulade. But I accepted it anyway so as not to lose any more time, especially since my wife would have had to eat alone. The owner spent most of the time standing at the entrance, chatting with locals and regulars and smoking a lot. The friendly waitress had to do everything and was completely overwhelmed. CONCLUSION: We won't be back!

Unfortunately, the landlord (or rather, the boss) was sitting right next to us in the beer garden with a beer and several cigarettes and was quite pushy. The two waiters were very friendly. The way the boss treated the waitress in front of us was also inappropriate. The kids' meal was okay. The sauerbraten was way too sour for us, and the meat was very thin and not tasty. The cabbage was overcooked, but well-seasoned. The dumplings were rather mushy and tasted like scrambled eggs. Unfortunately, we won't be back. But thanks again to the friendly waiters.

Very good food. Homestyle. The wide selection tastes simply fantastic. The drinks leave nothing to be desired, the service is excellent, and you're sitting in a very good restaurant with a great atmosphere.

It was our first time eating here with two families. The service staff was consistently friendly, nice and helpful. The ambience is modern yet classic. We liked it. The menu is completely sufficient and offers a nice selection. The food was consistently very tasty and also completely okay in terms of price. So a clear recommendation...

Great ambience, very good quality food, but the Thuringian Rostbrätel was more of a joke in terms of portion size. The neck steak cut with a laser sword has nothing to do with a real Thuringian Rostbrätel. Maybe add the salad and a decent piece of meat. I don't understand the point of a salad plate with a steak anyway...

We were very satisfied. The food was very tasty, very good quality and sufficient. The staff was very nice in a great atmosphere. The landlord is very nice. As guests we felt very comfortable and well looked after. We look forward to next time.

We didn't have a reservation and lucked into getting a table for five. We were served quickly. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio wasn't quite right. The Sprite wasn't carbonated and simply tasted like sugar water, and my brothers' fried potatoes weren't what you'd expect (unfortunately, they were soggy and not crispy).

We, the Saalfeld-Remschütz Fire Department, spent a wonderful evening here on December 27, 2024. Many thanks to the entire restaurant team for the excellent service and delicious food. Despite our group of over 40 people, we were served promptly and well in the fireplace lounge, even though the restaurant was still busy.

When you sell your restaurant soul at Christmas. We went out to eat with two children on Christmas Day. We made a reservation for 11 a.m. and waited 100 minutes for our food. Not the best time, but still within our expectations. An absolutely negative experience with the manager: he refused our child a second portion of fries. Our child was very hungry after the long wait. When we confronted him about it, he came across as so arrogant, like in Thuringia! It's Christmas, and denying a small child food is completely unacceptable. I hope all your potatoes go moldy in the cellar!! That has nothing to do with the restaurant industry in Saalfeld; it's simply the wrong calling for this man!!

The ambiance is truly dreamy. It has a castle feel. The young waitress was very attentive and genuinely friendly. The older gentleman, on the other hand, was probably having a bad day. The food wasn't good. The dumplings tasted of nothing in all three dishes. The sauces were just as bad. The meat was tender, but unfortunately, it didn't liven up the rest of the experience. The only good dish was the nuggets and fries. When we pointed out that the food was completely seasoned, we were simply told that we couldn't discuss anything with the chef today, until after the holidays. No farewells, no best wishes for the upcoming holidays (only from the friendly waitress, thank you very much for that!) The prices are outrageous for this lack of quality! We were massively disappointed.

For me, this was my first and definitely my last visit. Completely chaotic and overwhelmed staff. Drinks were forgotten, then my food was forgotten and arrived much later, like the other meals. I was really looking forward to a fresh schnitzel from the clear menu, and what arrived was a frozen pressed meat schnitzel, which was simply thrown into the fryer along with my fries. The breading was drenched in oil, the fries were cold, and the fried egg was burnt on the bottom. I come from a restaurant background and am not squeamish, but for €19, the meal was a disaster.

My 75th birthday party was actually planned for the evening of November 9th, 2024 in the Bergfried restaurant. Despite booking a hotel and reserving a table, strangely enough the table was not available and there were 12 people on the street. So a big thank you to the staff at the "Alte Post", who were able to set up places for 12 people on a Saturday evening at such short notice and in an uncomplicated manner and thus saved my birthday party.

We ate together as a group. We had made a reservation and were quickly shown to our table. Unfortunately it started then. Yes... It was Saturday around 6:40 p.m. There was a little more going on. Nevertheless, I find it unacceptable that we had to wait 15 minutes just for the card. It took another 10 minutes until our order was taken, same thing until we had our drinks and then our food could be ordered at some point. From there it became really unacceptable. 2 of our group ordered starter soup. It only came after 20 minutes. About 15 minutes later the salads came with some of the dishes. Then it probably took another almost 15 minutes until all the main courses were finally served. In other words, it was easily 1 1/2 hours from sitting down to serving the main course. That doesn't work. In the meantime we were already thinking about whether we should leave and maybe get places somewhere else. My meal itself was really good. My meat was perfect, the fries were typical Metro products, but I could live with that. My colleagues, on the other hand, were not so happy. The fried potatoes were too greasy and some of them fried too long. A lot of things were already lukewarm, the dumplings were definitely not homemade, the red cabbage wasn't fresh, etc. It's a shame about the prices. When we wanted a dessert around 9:30 p.m., we were told the kitchen was already closed. Although opening hours are until 11 p.m. But they could still make us ice cream if necessary. We then simply ordered schnapps as a nightcap and then things got chaotic and bad. Some of us ordered doubles, which we were charged for, but only got single ones on the table. I ordered a simple one that came twice and was also charged for, but I noticed that too late. I also got the wrong size drink when I was eating, but then I thought, okay...you'll probably finish it anyway. Then there was a discussion when paying because the waiter who made the mistake was no longer there. My colleagues received credit for their double-charged liquor. Of course I had to pay because I noticed it too late. Just a no go for me. Forever long waiting times, wrong orders and even though we were supposed to be open until 11 p.m., we were literally thrown out at around 10 p.m. by gestures and loud tidying up. Even though my meat was really well done, that was my last visit. I had to pay more than what I ordered. 🙅🏼‍♀️ I had to pay for the staff's mistakes. No customer service. 🤷🏼‍♀️

A very nice rustic restaurant. The food was very tasty and the portions were sufficient. The conditions were very friendly and we kept asking if everything was okay. But it wasn't intrusive. Our grandma also liked and enjoyed it here. The toilets were clean and modern. The restaurant was also clean and tidy. In summer you can also sit in front of it in the beer garden. Even the second time it remained delicious. Only that we were in the vault in the basement, a nice atmosphere that invites you to celebrate.

Despite the full house, the landlord made it possible for us to reserve a table for two people at short notice. Our food (goose and roast meat) was excellent and the service was more than top. Thank you for everything.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to take a seat 10 minutes before the restaurant opened. We didn't want to eat or drink anything, we just wanted to sit. Well, we had a reservation, so we came back. The food was mediocre, unfortunately the dumplings weren't to our liking. We expected more from the “Thuringian dumplings”. Too bad.

We visited this restaurant on New Year's Eve. I describe my impressions in this regard as follows. We got a table in the back basement and had to sit on patio chairs! The request for another table was answered in the negative! That evening there was a special menu with around 7-8 dishes and different prices, as usual! ...of course more expensive! The salad that usually comes with the dish cost around 6 euros extra! I ordered a schnitzel with mushrooms. This was as thin as paper! The breading prevailed! ... the thinnest schnitzel I've ever eaten. In addition, the food was tasteless and bland! You probably saved on the salt! The waitress accepted this criticism without reacting! In summary, one can now say that this evening wasn't just about making money, it was a complete rip-off! That was definitely our last visit there.

Very nice staff, there is a reserved sign on all the tables outside, but you can get a table if you ask. Unfortunately the food is a little bland, you could add a little more seasoning or put spices on the tables. Unfortunately the fillet was also very tough. Dumplings and roulades are ok but salt is missing here too. But it's a matter of taste...our family didn't have enough of each dish...Unfortunately, no one asked whether it was tasty and there was such a commotion when paying that we couldn't point it out. The staff was very rushed and stressed but friendly.

I don't know if this restaurant even deserves a star. Roulades without filling, without mustard, which of course makes them tough and not really edible. Thuringian dumplings completely melt at the level of a potato pancake, tasteless. Filled rump steak totally burnt on the bottom side, inedible. Price-performance ratio at the lowest level. There's no way we're going to eat there anymore, I'd be better off throwing the money down the drain.

The greeting in the restaurant was not very friendly. We had ordered for inside but the boss discussed it in a very unfriendly manner. In the end he sent us to the "basement", where it was very pleasant. Afterwards everything was fine, the service was friendly and, above all, the food was great.
