Ein Klassiker im Vest und besonders in Herten! Tradition, sehr gutes Essen und ein wundervoller Biergarten

Wir haben sehr gut gegessen und getrunken. Leider war kein Tisch für uns eingedeckt, obwohl ich vorher reserviert hatte. Trotzdem lohnt sich ein Besuch.

Habe gerade auf einer bezaubernden Terrasse etwas getrunken. Großartig.

Nette Atmosphäre im Biergarten unter der Kastanie im Alten Dorf.

Die neuen Betreiber halten das gute Niveau der Küche. Es ist beeindruckend, wie es Küche und Service gelingt die vielen Gäste im meist voll besetzten Restaurant gut zu bedienen.

Gute bürgeriche Küche. Fischkarte nicht so vielseitig, bzw. ungewöhnliche Zusammenstellung " Fischteller" Hatte ein 350gr Rumpsteak. Das Fleisch war nicht gleichmäßig zugeschnitten, daher war der Gargrad von well done bis medium rare. Daher leichte Abzüge. Essen war reichhaltig. Insgesamt aber gute Küche. Die Begleitungen waren zufrieden.

Einfach ein perfekter abend. Das Ambiente gemütlich und dem Alter des Hauses entsprechend. Der Service spitze super nett freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen ein Gedicht immer wider gerne. Ein großes Lob an die Chefin des Alt Westerholt.

Wir waren mit Freunden zum 3. Mal im Restaurant "Alt Westerholt" und waren wie immer begeistert. Sehr leckeres Essen, freundliche und kompetente Bedienung, gemütliches Ambiente. Wir kommen gerne wieder und freuen uns, im Sommer im Biergarten zu sitzen.

Essen lecker Service freundlich waren zufrieden .

Wir waren enttäuscht 😞 Hausmannskost wird zu teuer angeboten. Das Schnitzel (wie auch immer zubereitet), trocken, dunkel, fad. Die Pommes dazu könnten von MC Donald sein. Es gibt so viel Möglichkeiten Pommes gut und günstig frisch zuzubereiten. Die Bratkartoffeln, die mein Mann hatte.... Naja. Wenn ich essen gehe, erwarte ich für mein Geld Qualität. Da helfen auch kein Ambiente und freundlicher Service. Der Gastraum war für einen Mittwoch gut gefüllt. Wie viele Gäste davon kommen wieder. Wir definitiv nicht. Wir finden es schade solche Bewertungen abgeben zu müssen. Die gegebene Antwort vom Inhaber verstehe ich nicht. Meine Bewertung wirft Widersprüche auf. Welche? Akzeptieren, entschuldigen, besser machen. Kritik annehmen. Das würde schon genügen.

Waren heute im alt Westerholt. Es war sehr schön ,schnell Bedienung leckeres Essen. Hatte einen Salat mit Ziegenkäse da haben mir die Walnüsse gefehlt. Ansonsten sehr gut. Freue mich auf den Biergarten.

Trotz bestätigter Reservierung auf dem Handy wurde uns mitgeteilt dass kein Tisch zur Verfügung steht. Sorry. Aber das geht gar nicht. Für die schlampige Organisation ihres Restaurants muss ich hier leider 1 Punkt geben, sonst kann ich hier die Bewertung nicht abgeben. Zum Glück haben wir eine andere Lokalität gefunden, die auch Gäste willkommen heißt. Nachtrag 25.02 : Es war zu der Zeit kein weiterer Tisch frei. Angeboten wurde uns ein Nebenraum als "kalte" Atmosphäre zur Feier des 85. Geburtstags. Das fanden wir als eine nicht gerade angenehme Atmosphäre.

Der letzte Januarsamstag dieses Jahres war entgegen bisheriger Erfahrungen ein Totalausfall. Teils kleinste Portionen, teils verbrannt und ungenießbar, dazu lauwarm, Schnitzel vermutlich aus der Friteuse und Sauce vom Geschmack her aus dem Glas, Salat komplett vergessen, 0,1 l (saurer) Gavi für 9 € (!!!), Primitivo nach einem Glas ausverkauft. So wird der gute Ruf dieser alt eingesessenen Lokalität ohne Not leichtfertig verspielt. Und das mit 4 Personen für 160 €. Letztlich kein "Pappenstiel", und trotz MWST.- Ersparnis ab 2026 gute 25 % Preissteigerungen. Da wird aber rapide zugelangt.

Leider sieht der Laden aus wie immer, alt und abgerockt, fleckig Polster und Spinnenweben. Essen war ok, hatte mich voll auf die Berliner Leber gefreut, da ich nie die Portionen schaffe habe ich ein Senioren Teller genommen. Nachdem ich die Zwiebel die zurseite geschoben habe erwartet mich ein Stück Kalbsleber von etwa 50 gr. 10cm×5cm groß und das fande ich echt frech und dafür 15,32€. Die normale Portion hätte 18,90 € gekostet, weiß leider nicht wie eine normale Portion aussieht. Zum dem hatten alle ein Salat bekommen nur ich nicht, hätte einen kleineren Salat erwartet da ich ja ein Seniorenteller hatte. Wollten eigentlich Nachtisch bestellen, Karte haben wir zwar bekommen aber die nächsten 20 min tauchte keine Kellnerin auf um unsere Bestellung auf zu nehmen. Kellnerin waren sehr nett. Haben dann nur noch bezahlt und sind gegangen. Schade😒😟😟😟

Alles sehr lecker, allerdings stimmen die Preise auf der Website nicht mehr, die Hauptgerichte sind mittlerweile um einiges teurer geworden.

Tolles Essen und schönes Ambiente.

Wir waren heute sehr spontan und zum ersten mal unter "neuer Leitung" dort zu Gast und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Bereits der Kontakt am Telefon war sehr zuvorkommend, der Service im Haus selbst ohne Tadel. Das Essen war auf den Punkt und richtig lecker. Wir werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen und Alt Westerholt gerne weiterempfehlen.

Schön guten Abend. Es hat mir alles sehr gut gefallen. Der Spinat und das Lachsfilet war schön saftig und gut gewürzt. Ganz toll und danke für alles. Reza Molavy!

Man sollte mal die Preisliste im Internet ändern. Haben ganz andere Preise im Restaurant.

Gute deutsche Küche in passendem rustikalen Ambiente. Für eine bessere Bewertung des Essens fehlt der gewisse Pfiff, das kleine Mehr, welches aus einem guten ein exzellentes Gericht macht.

Das Essen war wirklich gut und geschmacklich überzeugend. Das Ambiente ist zwar etwas in die Jahre gekommen und könnte eine kleine Auffrischung vertragen, wirkt aber trotzdem gemütlich. Der Service war freundlich, auch wenn ein paar Dinge schiefgelaufen sind – ein Gericht wurde vergessen, eines war nicht verfügbar und eines falsch serviert. Kann passieren, trotzdem etwas schade fürs Gesamtbild. Ich würde dem Restaurant aber auf jeden Fall noch eine zweite Chance geben.

The decor is in keeping with the "village" feel. Everything is clean, but a bit dated and not very comfortable for long periods of sitting. We'll be back soon!

We were there for the second time today and were completely satisfied! Despite the restaurant and beer garden being full, the service was prompt. We had a table reservation, and it worked out well. We'd be happy to go back!

On a short bike ride from Bochum to Westerholt, we happened upon this place by chance and were pleasantly surprised. Whether it was the "Alt Westerholt" pan-fried dish with fried potatoes or the schnitzel with fries, everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. Friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere! The newly renovated restrooms with first-class amenities deserve special mention!

A disgrace. The voucher isn't accepted, even though the email clearly stated otherwise. €100 gone. Be careful with Black Bonsai vouchers.

We've always loved coming here. We weren't disappointed by the new owner either. Super good food. Very friendly service. Great atmosphere. Always happy to come back. It's like a vacation a day. 😊

This is our fourth time here and we're absolutely thrilled again. The restaurant was very busy, but the service and food were still simply excellent and delicious. We'd happily come back again. I highly recommend it.

Beautiful zoo with lots of play opportunities and some food service not tested by us

We were on a bike tour when we wanted to take a break there. We sat there for 10 minutes without being served. When we did, we were immediately asked to order without even seeing a menu. The table continued to go unclear, unfriendly comments were made, and even an ashtray was too much to ask for... The seating was really great, but that was the last time they saw us!

Yesterday, August 10, 2025, we were looking forward to a portion of Berliner Leber (Berliner Leber) – unfortunately, this visit turned into a disappointment. After the first few bites, we noticed that the dish was partially burnt, giving it a bitter taste. Hoping for a solution, we approached a waitress, but our concern was initially ignored. A second waitress took us seriously and confirmed our assessment. She took the plate to the kitchen to show it to the chef. To our regret, the chef was uncooperative, refused to prepare a new portion, and instead offered only a scoop of ice cream as compensation. We still had to pay for the dish in full – the plate remained in the kitchen. What was particularly unfortunate was that the second waitress was visibly embarrassed and would have liked to help us, but was unable to change the situation. I wonder if the new owner knows how to handle legitimate complaints in her restaurant.

A wonderful beer garden in the summer and a rustic restaurant in the winter always invite you to enjoy delicious food. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by the wonderful aroma of home-cooked food. Everything here is just right.

Unfortunately, it's not recommended. The wait time is 90 minutes. Everyone is completely overwhelmed.

Overall, highly recommended. Homely atmosphere. Just like the food. On Sunday, even the main hall was fully booked.

Here, you'll still get authentic cuisine presented with truly excellent craftsmanship. I haven't eaten this well in a long time. You should take your time, but they also have top-notch beers on tap, etc., to pass the time. Definitely worth it, and we'll be back 👌

Four of us dined there. The starters were good, but nothing exceptional. The main courses were very good. The service was very inconsistent. For example, after someone spilled a cup of espresso on my pants, I only received a tired apology and then had to pay for the espresso. It can always happen, but a bit more participation would have been nice. Otherwise, it's definitely recommended, with a very nice beer garden.

We stopped here with a large group of mourners from a funeral in the Ruheforst (forest cemetery) for coffee, cake, and rolls! That's why I can only give it two stars; we only had coffee and rolls! Everything was superb, to our satisfaction! I'll come for dinner next time; I guess I can give it even more stars then!

Waited 25 minutes and wasn't served! Outrageous.

We were there for the fourth time today and, as always, were impressed. The service and food were very good. Even though it was busy, the service was good! The manager is also very nice and accommodating! We were very satisfied again and will go there regularly! Highly recommended!

Beautiful beer garden under old trees.

The beer garden is fantastic! Sitting under the large chestnut tree in summer temperatures is simply wonderful! The rustic food is consistently good 👍

We ended up in this lovely beer garden today on a trip. Fast and friendly service, delicious iced coffee at a great price. A great atmosphere under the tree. We'd love to come back.

Before the change of ownership, we occasionally ate there because of the (then unique) menu, and we were always very satisfied. Today we had a reservation for five people. The place was busy. Unfortunately, the service was completely overwhelmed. Ordering drinks alone was a challenge. The first drink was lost on the way to the counter, so it took a little longer to be served. We also had to wait over an hour and a half for our food. The plates were served, but without cutlery. Here, too, we had to wait a long time. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the quality of the dishes, as my order was simply forgotten. So I have to rely on the opinions of others who were satisfied. I was offered a second order, but I declined, and I didn't want anything else. We often eat at different restaurants, and my wife has worked in the restaurant industry for years. Therefore, we can judge the service, and it was, to say the least, very poor. Empty tables weren't cleared, and other guests were left with empty glasses. No one from the service staff came by to take any requests from guests. Even though the beer garden was well attended at this time, the service staff should have been a little more attentive.

We ate there on Sunday with eight people. The food was, as always, very tasty. Since the outdoor dining area was also open and busy, there were too few servers. We therefore had to wait about 1.5 hours for the main course. That was a bit too long. Despite the great workload, the service was very friendly. What was completely unacceptable was the payment process. Without! presenting the bill, the card reader was handed over, and without! me including a tip, the server even entered the tip. I only noticed this later, after receiving the bill. When I unknowingly wanted to give the server another cash tip, she didn't even think it necessary to remind me of the tip I had already paid. That's not appropriate! So be careful when paying by card; it's better to check the bill first. It won't happen to me again.

We returned to the Alt Westerholt restaurant after a change of ownership. The food was freshly prepared and truly delicious. However, the service could be improved. A friendly smile would be appreciated, and when asked about the aperitif options, the waiter shouldn't tell guests to look at the menu. We weren't asked if we'd like anything else to drink or even dessert. This needs to be improved. But we'll be happy to come back because the food is delicious.

What a fantastic, lovely, very lovely Father’s Day dining experience with my loved ones in the ‘Haus Alt Westerholt’ restaurant. The inn is unbeatably beautiful and located in the historic and picturesque town centre of Westerholt. You immediately feel very welcome and at home in this pretty half-timbered house. The menu is extremely varied and offers something for every taste. The quality of the food is top-notch. It couldn’t be better. The salads were fresh and dressed perfectly. The meat dishes were dreamy. Although the restaurant was very busy today, all of the food was served quickly. The service at our table by Liana deserves particularly high praise. ✨🙏🏻✨You couldn’t have more attentive, friendly, or professional service in a restaurant on a public holiday. 10 out of 10 points for Liana. A very quaint restaurant in the Alte Westerholt, with good home-style cooking and modern and attentive staff.

Very good, home-style food. We were served, but the service was not very friendly or attentive. When we asked about food and drinks, we were told to look at the menu ourselves. I also see room for improvement and improvement in the dining room. The food was OK, not expensive—why not!

We spontaneously stopped by on Sunday without making a reservation. My salad was very large and incredibly delicious. Service was excellent, very prompt, and extremely friendly. Normal restaurant prices. This certainly won't be our last visit.

Super great...especially the beer garden

We ate there twice after the restaurant reopened under new management and were very satisfied. The dishes were delicious and were prepared and served quickly. The service was also attentive and friendly. We will also visit the beer garden again this summer.

The food was good, there wasn't much sauce, we waited about 20 minutes for drinks, the side salad for the chicken schnitzel only arrived after we had spoken to three waiters. It seems that one waiter is responsible for the bill, another for the food and another for the drinks, unfortunately it's very hectic at the table, the beer garden is great.

The beer garden invites you to drink coffee after a bike ride. It's quaint there and the service is very friendly. Would love to come back.

Yesterday we ordered a table at 5:30 p.m. in Alt Westerholt for 4 people. After we sat there for 20 minutes, the waitress suddenly came and asked us to sit at another table because customers would have liked to have our table. So we sat somewhere else. After we had finished around 6:50 p.m., the waitress came again and asked us to leave the table because the next customers had reserved the table for 7:00 p.m. Anything can happen, but the absolute hardest thing was that there was no apology or anything from the boss. Thank you for the lovely evening. P.S. We would have liked to have had dessert and had something to drink too. Someone wants to make a lot of money very quickly.

May 2025: more like 3.5 stars: very quick preparation even though all tables were occupied. Pork schnitzel very tasty 😋, as well as the greeting from the kitchen. Cold drinks and cappuccino are also great. Dessert cream caramel not so much, but mousse au chololat was great. Chicken schnitzel too much breading for our taste. Vegetarian tortellini had very little taste, but there was delicious ice cream to make up for it 🍨 . Moderate prices. Very clean sanitary facility. December 2023: back after a long time. Aged gracefully, rustic ambience. Goulash soup and coffee/cake were delicious. Service was probably stressful and therefore not very friendly at times January 2020: Very tasty food and drink. Attentive staff. Were there with foreign guests. Gladly again!

Were there today for the first time under the new owner and were disappointed. The dishes were taken over by name from Reul, but unfortunately the recipe seems to have been changed. The Pfännchen Haus Alt Westerholt is no longer served in a pan but directly on the plate. The sauce was very thick, something we didn't know from Reul at all. The Düsseldorf mustard steak was also completely different than usual in terms of sauce. Then we two seniors ordered schnitzel, and apparently a normal schnitzel was simply cut in half after frying because both schnitzels had a cut edge. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is no longer correct at all. It's a shame because it's been our favorite restaurant for over 30 years and we're the third generation to eat there. We'll probably have to look for something else.

After our annual visit to the fair in Dortmund, we stopped again in Herte. Despite the new owner, the atmosphere was still great. Despite the restaurant being full, our schnitzel was quickly on the table. Tasted great again.

We were there yesterday and were very satisfied. Beautiful thin wavy fried schnitzel, juicy asparagus and delicious potatoes. Nice and fast service that always ensured that the empty glasses were quickly replaced with full ones. It was a very successful evening and I'm happy to give it 5 stars. I'll be back next week...

It's a horrible juice shop. You wait 20 to 30 minutes for drinks. After the meal, no waiter came to ask for any wishes for a whopping 45 minutes. They'll never see me again. I'm so mad that I'm having trouble sleeping again tonight.

I think there are problems with working hours. At 3:45 p.m. we were asked whether we had reserved. Not even half of the tables outside were occupied.

I have been visiting the Restaurant an der Kastanie since I was a child. Ms. Reul runs her restaurant with heart and great gastronomic experience. Whether it's a classic pan or a fitness goat, the food tastes good. And the staff is friendly and extremely attentive. Thank you for another great visit.

The best restaurant in the area! Unfortunately it is scheduled to close at the end of the year. This makes me very sad because I have been a guest there since I was a child and I don't know any better Jägerschnitzel. And of course many other things from the menu 😔

Schönes altes Fachwerkhaus, sogar mit gemütlichem Kamin. Das Essen hat gut geschmeckt, Auswahl und Preise sind ebenfalls in Ordnung. Es wirkt nur leider so, dass das scheinbar strenge Regiment der Inhaberin auf die Stimmung und Motivation der Servicekräfte drückt. Man maßregelt und blamiert sein Personal nicht vor den Gästen. Der Ton und die dadurch verbreitete Stimmung sind leider unangemessen. Da fühlt man sich auch als Gast automatisch unwohl. Etwas mehr Herzlichkeit täte dem sonst so urigen Restaurant sehr gut, aber daran kann man ja arbeiten.

Wohlfühladresse bei engagiertem Serviceteam - drinnen und auch im Garten. Speisen sind gutbürgerlich, nix zu meckern. Haben beide Besuche genossen.

Rustic beer garden, very pleasant!

I have been living in Herten for some time and was finally able to take a closer look at the beautiful village of Westerholt. The village is simply wonderful. It conveys the charm of the past, so that you feel like you are walking through the streets in the 18th century. The restaurant is built and run in the old style. Here, German, home-style dishes are served in a German atmosphere. This is still recommended for the price. Everyone knows that good German cuisine has become very, very rare in the area. This restaurant is a real insider tip. There is also a beautiful beer garden here that invites you to linger in the summer. Attention: Dogs are also tolerated in the bar as long as they are well behaved and calm. Another plus point at this point We'd love to come back!

Wir waren im Rahmen einer Hochzeit das erste Mal dort. Ich kann nur sagen, dass alle sehr freundlich und entgegen kommend waren. Sowohl die Torte, als auch das Essen waren sehr lecker. Wir können es nur empfehlen.

We have here on May 24th. celebrated our wedding and were absolutely satisfied. Everything was great, service and kitchen were great. We were given good advice during the planning and our wishes were implemented. As always, the food was very good and tasty. We can only recommend the restaurant, whether for a celebration or for a cozy and delicious meal and will definitely come back.

We ended up there by chance, but we are full of praise and completely satisfied. Mega service, from the friendly boss to the equally friendly waitress to the French chef (un très grand merci, Michel, tout était délicieux!!), the rustic ambience of the restaurant, and as a surprise the house came with a piece of birthday cake with a sparkler for my mother's special day... we didn't want to leave at all - but then we agreed with the staff that we had to do it again the next day to look after the next guests. Thank you very much for such a nice evening! It was the highlight of our 3-day trip to the Ruhr and the surrounding area.
