Brilliant location, will definitely come back. Grilled schnitzel, spicy turkey: all recommended! Friendly and fast, everything was great!

Down-to-earth shop. But there is clearly room for improvement when it comes to the ambience and also the food. Above all, it is anything but cheap...

What is this store about? My schnitzel had 4 right angles. I swear that I could solve a lot of geometry problems from high school with it. Pythagoras and co send their regards. But without kidding: what's the point? If I had wanted a Tillmanns Toastie, I should have gone to the kiosk next door. That was really disgusting to the max. I usually eat literally everything. But this shop managed to make me not finish my meal for the first time. I don't even want to start with my soup as a starter. I hope I don't get food poisoning tomorrow. This really borders on physical harm.

Cozy pub with delicious food and quite large portions. Had the lumberjack steak, it was delicious. Service was quick and very friendly! Gladly again!

The Alexander is down-to-earth and offers rustic and simple German cuisine. Here you can find canned vegetables, potato wedges or even baked sandwiches and schnitzel. The currywurst is good and so is the sauce. The best value for money is the minced steaks, as these seem to be Alexander's specialty. The preparation changed about six months ago and since then they have become a little larger, nice and firm and visibly contain herbs. The croquettes could be put in the deep fryer for a little longer and the drinks are quite expensive. There is a changing action card and if you want to spend some time there, you should put a cushion from the corner on the hard wooden chairs.

A real German pub/restaurant full of locals. Food was amazing for it not being a 5 star restaurant. Service was kind and helpful to a non German speaking tourist. Definitely worth a visit.

Unfortunately there are almost no vegetarian options. Where are the vegetarian schnitzels, which have long been standard elsewhere, and potato pancakes and the like?

Rustic, very pleasant atmosphere, great selection of drinks and food. And great service. 😊 The dishes definitely fit into a student bar! No frills and absolutely delicious.

Not a single seat table free on Tuesday afternoon 1730h for running customers.... EVERYTHING RESERVED. Only bar (standing chairs) and one bar table free. I'll interpret that. so: Apart from the fact that the prices in this shop, like everywhere else in the customer-shattering gastronomy sector, have risen by almost 100% since 2019 (a not overly culinary normal baguette Alexander back then €6.90 now €11.xx??), they want to please the guest, so blame me for not making a reservation (I work around the corner and wanted to eat spontaneously) AHA, BEFORE CHRISTMAS WALK-IN CUSTOMERS ARE APPARENTLY UNDESIRABLE FOR SAFE COMMERCE. Well, imagine an 80-year-old couple with walking difficulties who want to eat something when it opens at 5 p.m., drag themselves 1km from the apartment to the restaurant with a walker... and are turned away... The German guest economy is in crisis? Understandable, with such service, which would be unthinkable in the USA in the average meal station without culinary standards. By the way... I'm now sitting here in the Café Extra Blatt... A few minutes away... Gastronomy system, similar level, similar prices: a few tables reserved, the rest free for walk-in customers. I would like to eat and drink in a pub when I'm hungry.... And not when the restaurant owner thinks his subjects are allowed to do so. With respect, for the €20 I didn't spend today I can conjure up 3 great dishes at home using Aldi ingredients. And with all due respect, with such one-sided, non-customer-friendly, greedy behavior, the crisis in the hospitality industry is completely lost on me. As a student, 25 years ago, I visited this shop every weekend until 3 a.m. to dine...he won't see me again. And to be honest... I eat much better for the money with the Greeks I live in... And they even conjure up an extra table spontaneously, even when everything is full...

One of the last really cozy and rustic restaurants (pub) in Hanover. Nice service, delicious food, delicious beer!

Pub atmosphere in the middle of Hanover - almost right next to the Schauspielhaus. Simple gastronomy for the location, really affordable and of a simple but good standard. I recommend kale with sausage and smoked pork here in the winter months. There is a good selection of draft beers.

Here you can get delicious food at reasonable prices. We had a steak with onion vegetables and fried potatoes and were thrilled. We would love to come back here, we like the rustic atmosphere.

The menu includes very good home cooking. The quality of the ingredients is impeccable and I have never had any complaints about anything. The conditions are attentive and friendly. The drinks menu includes Guinness, which I personally always like. As a vegetarian, my girlfriend always gets her money's worth. If you want to have a cozy evening in the pub with friends, you can stay here for a very long time. Board games are also available to borrow.

Nach 40 Jahren hab ich es tatsächlich geschafft, dem „Alexander“, laut eigener Homepage die „Kultkneipe im Herzen vom Hannover“, einen Besuch abzustatten. Auf der Homepage ist auch zu lesen, das die Gäste es toll finden, dass sich seit 1984 hier nichts verändert hat. Ich muss leider gestehen, dass das für mich eher ein großer Nachteil ist. Allerdings habe ich die Kneipe auch nicht in den 80‘er Jahren des letzten Jahrtausend kennen gelernt, so dass ich hier auch nicht meinen sentimentalen Erinnerungen nachtrauere. Was mir besonders an diesem Mittwoch Abend aufgefallen ist, ist dass die Kundschaft dort genauso in die Jahre gekommen ist wie die Einrichtung selbst. Der Service an diesem Abend war freundlich und recht flott unterwegs, so dass wir nie lange auf Getränke oder Speisen warten mussten. Die Preise für das alkoholfreie Weizen (5.4€) und die Cola 0,5l (5,4€) liegen im unteren Bereich der hannoverschen Gastronomie. Zum Essen orderten wir den „Ratsherren Topf“ (21,6€) und das „Champignonschnitzel“ (18,4€). Der „Ratsherrentopf“ kam lauwarm an den Tisch, die Bratkartoffeln am Boden des Topfs waren eher matschig als kross und waren zu fettig. Naja was erwartet man, wenn man das Gemüse direkt auf die Kartoffeln gibt, darüber das Fleisch schichtet und mit Soße übergießt. Beim Putensteak hatte man in der Küche vergessen, die Sehne zu entfernen. Insgesamt ein Gericht, was wir so nicht mehr ordern würden. Beim „Champingnonschnitzel“ stand die Champingnonrahmsauce regelrecht auf dem Schnitzel. Aber auch geschmacklich war das Schnitzel in meinen Augen nur Mittelmaß. Ein wenig enttäuschend waren auch die leicht schmierigen Teller. Ich weiß nicht, ob es hier an Sorgfalt in der Küche fehlt oder es Probleme mit dem Geschirrspüler gibt. Zum Abschluss orderten wir einmal „Crunchy Vanille“ (4,9€) ausserhalb der Karte. Vanilleeis in Brösel gehüllt mit Karamelsauce - ein einfaches Dessert und das Beste, was mir hier serviert wurde. Insgesamt als Kneipe ok, aber bei einem weiteren Besuch würde ich es beim Essen bei Kneipenklassikern wie einer Currywurst belassen. Der Service war tatsächlich überraschend aufmerksam, allerdings waren auch noch viele Tische an diesem Abend frei. Gute 3 Sterne, aber für mehr müsste sich hier einiges ändern …

So a wonderful restaurant! Really rustic furnishings. The service is very nice but is really busy. Lots of guests, food and drinks. But despite it being full, it goes quickly and tastes great. Highly recommended. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to pre-order, but the three of us got a table straight away. So we definitely give it 5 stars We'll be happy to come back next time in Hanover.

The service staff were completely overwhelmed at 6 p.m. Only a few people at our table received their ordered food, the rest were forgotten several times. We had pointed out that food was still missing. It was noted that after more than an hour the drinks had barely landed on the table, so we gave up.

Best bistro/restaurant in downtown Hanover for a long time. The store is really cult and the range of food etc. is really impressive. Absolutely recommended for anyone who appreciates cozy and tasty food.

I enjoy going to the Alexander often, to this day. Eat moderately, small portions and fried potatoes cold. The topic: the calperina, relationship didn't fit at all, just got angry. The complaint was answered as follows: “Whatever I want, never a complaint. He's just a waiter here and I don't want to spoil his weekend and left... Of course you can do it, you just shouldn't.

The "legendary minced steaks" aren't quite a burner, but the ambience and service are perfect, great pub. The toilets could perhaps be tidier.

I was looking forward to a delicious schnitzel this evening. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. My friend chose a baked potato with turkey & mushrooms (turkey was a bit dry, otherwise the dish was delicious). Unfortunately, my schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce was a complete disaster. Schnitzel too thick and very mixed, sauce had a very solid and slimy consistency (sometimes too much binding), "refined" with too many herbs, fries were weak, unsalted and not well fried. From A to Z the dish was not appetizing. Oktoberfest beer very good! Our waiter: Very hard working, even if not very practiced. The handling of my complaint was not what I expected. Someone else came and asked my opinion about the dish, but I didn't feel like I was being taken seriously. When asked if I would like anything else from the menu, I politely said no - I had lost my appetite and mood. Invoice: I am happy to pay my bill, but I do not expect the food to be charged if there is a clear complaint. My beer was taken off the bill as a gesture of goodwill and I was charged €18.40 for the schnitzel (which was returned almost untouched). In between, the staff didn't ask if everything was OK or anything like that. Food at the table - cleared 30 minutes later. Conclusion of the evening: I don't expect star cuisine or "high-end" service. But the little things as a host were not followed. Too bad! I'll leave out the spider that rappelled down from the ceiling while we were eating. It can happen and it didn't ruin the evening. But leaving a dinner unsatisfied is very unfortunate.

Tipico pub tedesco con buona selezione di birre alla spina e con cibo locale. Dispone di un patio esterno nel quale godersi il fresco nelle serate estive. Il servizio e attento e non hanno difficoltà a parlare inglese. Abbiamo speso il giusto, più che consigliato.

We decided on the grill plate and were really impressed. Food and drinks were top. The innkeeper was very nice and accommodating. We were there spontaneously and can recommend the location and food/drink. There is a small backyard garden which is very cute and quiet.

The schnitzels were inedible. Heavily fried and very chewy in consistency. This subsequently became noticeable through abdominal pain. The staff wasn't interested in our feedback about the food.

Old memories... During my disco days, I always went there when I missed the last tram and always ate fried potatoes with a fried egg. Now after more than 45 years I went there again and of course ate fried potatoes with a fried egg. I loved it! And the audience looked like they were there back then too.

Unfortunately I can't judge the food. Haven't ordered. But it looked very good at the table. The service is very attentive, very quick, very friendly. We also asked if there was anything else that could be done and if everything was OK. The only drawback is terrible air. At least when we visited on Wednesday evening. I don't know if there is ventilation or something but all the windows were closed only when asked and one was opened.

It was our first time at the "Alexander" and we really liked it. The restaurant is really quaint and cozy. The young man in service is super friendly and quick, and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. We really enjoyed the food and it was good value for money. We would like to come again.

Endlich mal eine typische Kneipe, wie man sie erwartet. Gemütlich, mit vielen tollen Emaillie Schildern an der Wand. Große Auswahl an Bier. Das Angebot an Speisen richtet sich an den hungrigen Biertrinker. Wir werden wiederkommen, hat uns gefallen.

Cozy restaurant with good food for big appetites. The only drawback was that the waitress wasn't very knowledgeable about mathematics. An electronic cash register system doesn't help if you end up having to split 15 people apart. 😃

We were regular guests here when I was a student and now when I find myself in Hanover again, a visit to Alex is a must. Great food, a very good price/performance ratio and a pleasant atmosphere have remained unchanged for years.

It feels like Alexander has always been there. It is one of those places that are visited far too rarely. The food, drink and the ambience are very pleasant. We were there with 12 people and had a great time. The service was really very good, nice and quick. Although the Alexander has been around forever, it still feels refreshingly young. The whole atmosphere it exudes is somewhere between a student bar and a Bavarian restaurant. The visitors all had a positive aura and our service staff even outshone this. A negative point, however, would be the faucet in the toilet. It's almost an art to wash your soapy hands in the speed from the click to the water running out. It felt like the water ran for 3 seconds. Some fittings allow you to adjust the time and a little longer would be my recommendation. My conclusion: Everyone should visit the Alexander once or regularly. Alone or in groups you won't be disappointed. Heard that there is still something to eat until 2/3 in the morning, so it is also recommended for night owls. Information about my recessions. All the information I write down here is a snapshot and completely subjective. When I visit a place a second time, my assessment may be completely different. If I find something that needs improvement and it has actually been implemented, I will of course also change my review. Please always remain polite. The minced steak was always great, but unfortunately the quality and taste has now deteriorated considerably, but the price has increased considerably. I think the schnitzel is very good and the price is appropriate for the portion. The service is on point and always attentive.

Very nice pub in Hanover city center. The restaurant is very nicely decorated with a large counter. In summer you can also sit outside, but in a backyard. The service is always very friendly and quick. The menu is lovingly designed and there is enough choice. The food itself is nothing special, but completely ok for a pub. I can highly recommend the “Schulze” minced steak! If you want to go out for a drink and a bite to eat with friends in the evening, there is nothing better in Hanover.

Nice old pub, with a smoking room. If you don't like that, you're in the wrong place here. It smells like smoke throughout the place, but it doesn't bother me. The minced steak for €10.60 is brilliant. (01/2024) You can't cook anything for that price, and that's how it is. The meatball consists of almost 90% everything but minced meat. This is only present in minimal quantities. But it fills you up, compliments to the kitchen. The taste is ok too, you can't get more than that for the price. So a rustic pub, food at a high fast food level and still 4 stars. It's all ok. Thanks for the nice service.

Dans le centre de Hanovre, ce restaurant est situé dans une cour (si on n’y prête pas attention, on peut passer devant sans le voir). Avec un bar central, la salle est davantage prévue pour les repas entre amis. La cuisine, classique, typiquement allemande, est simple et délicieuse. Le tout pour une addition très raisonnable. À essayer sans hésiter.

숨겨진 맛집입니다 입구가 건물 뒤쪽에 있어서 찾기 쉽지 않습니다만 친절하고 다른 독일 식당과는 달리 음식 빨리나와서 좋아요 슈니첼이 대표 메뉴입니다

Uriges Restaurant mit vielen Bier Sorten. Leider ist der Raucherbereich so abgetrennt, dass es überall nach Rauch gerochen hat. (Lag wohl auch an den Gästen). Wir kommen wieder.

Das Ambiente ist gemütlich. Der Service war super schnell, obwohl es sehr voll war. Eine Reservierung kann ich nur empfehlen, wenn man mit mehreren Leuten hingeht. Das Essen war sehr lecker, gut bürgerliche Küche. Große Portionen und somit ein sehr sehr gutes Preis-Leistungs Verhältnis. Das war echt gut und nicht mein letzter Besuch. Vielen Dank!

Came here to catch up with an old friend and really enjoyed the vibe of this joint. The younger male staff was very attentive and friendly and spoke fluent English. The food was traditional German pub food, and quite delicious, but the portion was a little bit small. They seem to have a very limited dessert selection.

Unser erster Besuch im Alexander und nicht der Letzte! Das Konzept ist irgendwo zwischen Bistro und Gastrokneipe angesiedelt. Die Speisekarte listet alles auf, was ich als Gast in diesem rustikalen (und etwas abgeliebten) Ambiente erwarten darf. Unser Essen kam zügig an den Tisch, die Wahl fiel auf die "Kanzlerplatte", "Spareribs" und meinen "Gemischten Salatteller". Die Portionen waren ordentlich bemessen, qualitativ lecker und auch optisch ansprechend zubereitet. Wir waren gut zufrieden und genossen dazu das dunkle Staropramen vom Fass, das in Prag gebraut wird. Es ist gut ausbalanciert und nicht zu süffig!! Demnächst ist im Alexander auch "Grünkohl & Co." auf einer Sonderkarte zu finden. Auf Nachfrage: Gerichte "rund um die Gans" werden zur Martinszeit leider nicht angeboten....aus personellen Gründen. Die Bedienung war aufmerksam und zuvorkommend. Auch an Freundlichkeit mangelte es nicht.

Moin, war schon mehrere Male, mit Kollegen im Alex speisen & trinken, werde mich aber auf meinen 1. Besuch beziehen. Mag einfach diese Atmospähre, dieses Gefühl, dieses urige, genau mein Geschmack. Wir saßen damals(Montag nach dem DE die Fußball-WM 2014 gewann) im Biergarten, waren etwa 15 Leute. Bestellte FiestaMexicana, es traf meinen Geschmack zu 100%, besser geht nicht, dazu ein Radler, ein Träumchen! Mehr als die Hälfte der anderen nahm eine der Schnitzelvarianten, keiner meckerte, alle waren zufrieden, einer super-gelungener Ausklang an einem herrlichen Sommerabend. Seit dem immer wieder gerne, sage nur echt selten ab wenn es heißt, wir gehen noch ins Alex, oft für ein Feierabendgetränk; oder bis die Mitarbeiter auch mal nach hause wollen, was sie sich redlich verdient haben! Empfehlung Pur!!!
