Restaurant Akropolis in Lindau (Bodensee)

We were here a few years ago and now we're back again – unfortunately, the difference is night and day. The menu is very limited. The food was "okay" – I've had better at other Greek restaurants. There's a lot of room for improvement.

I spontaneously inquired about availability on a Saturday and got seats for 6 people within 10 minutes...great!

Everything was great, we'd love to come back. Highly recommended! ✨

The food was good, but the service could be better. The appetizer was forgotten. The person behind the bar seemed a bit bored, even though they were busy.

We waited 50 minutes for two main courses. In my opinion, the price-performance ratio is completely unjustified. The fries were far too small and are even better at McDonald's. Card payments were not accepted. We definitely would not visit this restaurant again.

We received friendly service, but there wasn't even a welcoming ouzo, which is something you'd expect from a Greek restaurant. The food was very modest, and for the price, we would have expected more – in our opinion, the value for money here isn't quite right.

Two of us stopped in spontaneously on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was busy, but we got a nice table for two. The atmosphere was pleasant and comfortable. The service was consistently friendly and prompt. The food and drinks were delicious. The gyros and bifteki were highly recommended.

The ambiance was very pleasant, and the staff were very accommodating. The price per person was based on the fact that we had a starter and dessert with the main course. The food was truly delicious in every course; I highly recommend it.

No Greek, as all dishes on the Sunday menu come with fries, which is not Greek. Price/performance ratio is too expensive. "Fries" I don't know where the other guests were while eating. What is Greek about the gyros but nothing else.

The best thing I've eaten in a long time

Bad food (almost exclusively convenience food), a bad-tempered waiter, and very expensive. On top of that, my table smelled like a toilet. When I finally asked for a Greek coffee, the answer was simply "out." And he didn't even mention beforehand that the garlic pita would cost an extra €3.80. In short: AS BAD AS EXPENSIVE!

If you're looking for bad and outrageously overpriced food, you'll find it here. Where the good reviews come from is a mystery to me. Saganaki and vine leaves are bought ready-made and then sold at a purely extortionate price. No bread is served with the hummus and tzatziki; it's also expensive to order separately. A glass of tap water costs €3.50! The place is dingy, cold, and horribly kitsch. If the people of Lindau rate this place 4.5 stars, I don't even want to know what the food is like at the other restaurants there. We were all done after the appetizer. While we weren't stuffed, the bill for four people (appetizers only!) was still over €80. If you want good Greek food in the area, you're better off heading to Poseidon in Bregenz. The food there is delicious and homemade at significantly lower prices.

A Greek restaurant as you would expect. Friendly, accommodating, and Greek-style delicious. I've had better rice, though, and the gyro was a bit much, resulting in a bit cold at the end. Overall, it was okay, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. On my second and third visits, the food was significantly better. The gyro, chicken skewer, and stuffed whole eggplant were all really good. So, one more star for the food. A highly recommended Greek restaurant.

Small, cozy restaurant in the city center, with outdoor seating along the street, in the pedestrian zone rather than cars. Very tasty at reasonable prices. All the waiters were very friendly. They offer ouzo at the end - we were there twice, and the quality has remained consistent.

We've been around the restaurant for a long time. After a long, long time, we passed by and finally decided to have lunch at the Akropolis restaurant in Lindau. There's not much to say: the food was very good and we enjoyed it immensely. The service was also good. The restaurant is located in a quiet area, making it easy to have a conversation. The outdoor seating is in a traffic-calmed zone, which is very pleasant. We will definitely come back to eat there again.

A good start, but room for improvement with the main course We spent an evening at this restaurant together. The Greek appetizer platter for two was delicious and a great start. Unfortunately, the main course wasn't quite convincing – the meat was very fatty and marbled, and the fries were unfortunately not crispy. The staff was friendly, but we noticed that the service was a bit hectic, which also affected the atmosphere. Overall, a mixed visit – okay, but with room for improvement.

A true piece of Greece in Lindau! We visited the Acropolis restaurant today and were thrilled! The chicken souvlaki with potatoes was super delicious and perfectly seasoned. The pollock with rice was also cooked to perfection and very flavorful. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive – you immediately feel welcome. A place where you enjoy eating and feel at home. We will definitely be back and highly recommend the restaurant!

Real Greeks who are hospitable and helpful. The food is average. Please don't sit downstairs by the restrooms; the door slams every time and it's loud.

When paying (cash only, no internet for card payments), we had to ask for an extra bill, which wasn't a good idea either - but we were able to sort it out with the owner.

Unfortunately, the food isn't as good as it used to be. We were there two years ago, and the quality was much better. They take very good care of you, and the service is good. The location is also great. As I said, the quality of the food is not good.

The gyros were small pieces and tasted strange. The souvlaki was fatty, greasy, marbled, too dark on the outside, and sometimes too pink on the inside. The meat was poor quality. Small portions and high prices.

We arrived around 6:30 and were seated right away. The service and staff were consistently friendly. The spare ribs were recommended to us, and my husband loved them. My gyro was perfect and not too dry. Unfortunately, the waitress didn't have a good eye for the drinks, but I'm used to that from almost all service staff. I still definitely recommend eating there.

This restaurant is an insult to every Greek. There were five of us - the restaurant was half full. Our order was taken after 15 minutes. We ordered main courses (Gyros Metaxa) and appetizers, including bread with tzatziki and beer (Helles) for everyone. It took us 10 minutes to get our drinks. The beer tasted like it had been diluted with water. The entire meal arrived 30 minutes later. There was no typical Greek salad as a side dish, as is usual at Greek restaurants. The portions were extremely small - the taste was an absolute disaster. Tzatziki was also completely forgotten, but dutifully added to the bill. No card payments were accepted. Service was abysmally bad and rude. We received a warm ouzo on the house after the meal. Unbelievable. The only downside is the ambiance - which was OK. I'm curious to see when the owner will have the review removed - then we'll post again ;)

We found it very strange that they didn't offer bread with the tzatziki, or rather, they had to pay €3.50 for it. You can usually get a salad at any Greek restaurant, but not here! Otherwise, the food was good! There's also a vegetarian option on the menu.

I paid 45 euros for two portions of gyros with cola. In the end, the dish only contained dry pork and potatoes. No pita, no normal vegetables - nothing. The sauce was missing cucumbers, although they are the basis of the classic Greek tzatziki. When I was asked if everything was okay, I politely replied that the dish was ok. After that, I was asked to share my opinion in more detail. I honestly told them what I didn’t like, and in response I heard strange phrases. Firstly: “Germans already complain about the prices in this place.” Secondly: “pork in Germany is not as good as in Greece, that’s why the gyros turned out like this.” I consider myself a connoisseur of cuisine and am especially well versed in the level of cafes and restaurants. This is the worst place with so-called Greek cuisine that I have ever visited. After I spoke up, they hinted that I probably didn't like German cuisine either - in the context of pork. This already sounded like semi-passive aggression towards me as a foreigner. I have no problems with German cuisine, but the attitude itself was extremely unpleasant. Initially, I didn't want to say anything at all - just pay and leave. But in the end, I ate bad food, expressed an opinion (for which, by the way, in normal establishments they pay professionals), and in response received excuses. At the same time, I paid the full price, but did not leave a tip. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Everything is perfect. We have ten people (quite a lot), they make a great place for us. This was our first meal after arriving in Germany. What a wonderful memory! Dirty table with dirty plates. And you get food you didn't order. The food is completely average, and you get a takeaway box to pack yourself. And when you explain your problem to them, they simply ignore you.

The food at Akropolis in Lindau tasted okay, but was overall too greasy (as can be seen in the photos). Particularly disappointing: The dish "Calamari with Gyros" cost over €20 – they only served three pieces of calamari, which isn't understandable for that price. Other Greek restaurants do better. Furthermore, they don't accept card payments, which isn't mentioned beforehand. Then, when paying, an unpleasant surprise came. Overall, a mixed visit with room for improvement – ​​value for money and transparency should urgently be reconsidered, and not always be based on tourists. If everything is right, guests will be happy to come back, including repeat tourists.

The restaurant is located in a cute alleyway, and the seating is really comfortable. However, our experience there was anything but good; the staff was truly inattentive (one gentleman deserves special mention; he was really very friendly and understanding). There's a dish on the menu that's easily misinterpreted, and when I pointed this out (since a pork dish was served), a truly unfriendly woman (presumably the owner?) came over and spoke to me/us in a very condescending manner, completely disregarding the customer's needs. The end result was that, due to her absolute unfriendliness, I didn't order another dish (at this point, I would have preferred that she hadn't taken the food back at all—probably a sign that this happens often with this dish—but that I had simply had to pay for it.) My friend's meal was okay—the gyro was good, but the mixed side salad was disappointing (it consisted almost entirely of a few leaves of lettuce). Based on the overall impression, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Didn't quite expect this kind of quality. As a Greek myself, I have a lot of experience in the Greek cuisine, and I ve been in numerous Greek restaurants throughout Europe. The dishes were even better than in lot of restaurants in Greece. The service was amazing and the ambience was perfect. I strongly recommend this place.

Bad souvlaki, low-quality meat, fatty chops. The souvlaki consisted of half fat and tendons. The meat was of inferior quality. The worst souvlaki I've had in a Greek restaurant in 10 years. The guests are tourists. They only come once. The location in the old town of Lindau is good. In summary, the Akropolis seems to be a tourist trap.

I don't often give a restaurant 5 stars. But I do here. My wife and I vacationed on Samos years ago. It was a simple little restaurant where only locals were present. Since then, we've loved Greek cuisine and hospitality. We learned a few words of Greek and were served royally. Just like here at Akropolis!!! I ordered gyros and my wife a skewer (chicken). We had a Greek white wine with it. And a salad. Afterward, we had Greek coffee (NOTICE for those who don't like coffee grounds) and an ouzo. I actually wanted a Metaxa, but I'll get that next time. One more thing: Central Europeans often eat very hot food. To put it bluntly, you can see it in the many blisters on their lips and tongue. 😝 Not so with the Greeks! This makes the food taste much better and more intense. So! Don't complain if it seems too "cold." Just enjoy the Greek cuisine and hospitality! Manometer! It was like a vacation. We'll definitely go back. Highly recommended!!! A little tip at the end: If you want to get to the island without the hassle of searching for a parking space, the best way is by public transport. That's what we did. And the advantage is that you can enjoy an extra glass of Greek wine without worrying about your driver's license. One more thing: unfortunately, there are always people who complain about all sorts of things. Be it about the food apparently being too fatty, or not warm enough, or about the service, etc. I can only recommend one thing to such grumpy people: try working as a waiter or in the kitchen, even for a day. And then I wish them guests like that. Greek cuisine uses olive oil and other ingredients. If you don't like that, you should stick to your German butter and lard fare and not go to a restaurant like that. Then you can't complain.

I really don't know how all these positive reviews came about. The food wasn't even lukewarm, dripping with fat and the meat wasn't grilled properly. A Greek song played on an endless loop in the background. I really hope that wasn't the norm there today. Our table neighbors said: “Let’s get out of here!”
