Gauchos in Lindau (Bodensee)

Unfortunately, the food did not meet my expectations, especially regarding the quality. The service also left much to be desired. My comments about the overly acidic taste and the undercooked chicken were not addressed appropriately, and I was still charged the full bill. I found the atmosphere unpleasant, as the tables were very close together and there was hardly any privacy. Overall, my visit was disappointing, and I would not recommend this restaurant.

We ate there on November 7th as a family of four. The food was okay, but not what we expected. There are definitely better Mexican restaurants. The portions were also quite small, especially the appetizers, and some of them were lukewarm. Things got interesting when we paid. Even though we ate in the dining room, the receipt only showed 7% VAT on the food, while the drinks had the correct 19%. We were told that the two tables at the bar were being charged as "to go." Strange! Furthermore, we were charged about €10 more than the menu price. We were then told that the cash register had already been updated to the new prices, but the menus hadn't been because the printer was behind schedule. That's understandable if you're informed about it when ordering, but simply charging higher prices without any explanation and hoping you won't notice is completely unacceptable. During the discussion, the owner became quite rude, and we were only given the difference of €9.90 through gritted teeth. We will not be visiting this restaurant again.

Update: Unfortunately, I have to say that both the taste and quality of the food have declined, and while the service was attentive, it seemed a bit overbearing. Therefore, under the new management, I can only give it 3 out of 5 stars. We were here for a girls' night out. The food was delicious. We received extremely friendly and attentive service from both the staff and the owner. We only had to wait a short time for everything. Lovely atmosphere. A thoroughly enjoyable evening, thank you very much. Update: My husband and I were there again yesterday (July 17, 2020), and it was simply fantastic once more. The food was incredibly delicious. The service and the owner were super friendly and funny. The cocktails were brilliantly mixed, and the music created a great atmosphere. Prices were more than fair. I'm giving it 5 stars again. Keep up the good work; our region needs more places like this! 👍

Very nice waitress, nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the portion sizes were too small for us. Therefore, I find the prices a bit high.

They should have more wine in stock. The selection was limited. The glasses should be cleaner. The food is great. I hope they'll address these issues quickly, as we'll definitely be back.

We visited Gauchos for the first time in a long time. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The good reviews are from the previous owner. One meal was forgotten and hastily cooked. Everything was almost raw. Unfortunately, there was no response to our complaint; instead, the manager explained that it was normal. All the other dishes were also only adequate. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful, but the smell of smoke was unpleasant. If you like cleanliness, this is also the wrong place! The upholstery is stained, and there are sticks of chewing gum on the side.

We waited an hour for our food and then were told they were out of fries.......?

Shocked by the boss. The food was cold and some of it tasted spoiled. In the end, the boss blamed everything on the women who were serving, even though they were the only ones who tried to improve the situation. NO, the women were definitely not the problem, but rather the MEN in the kitchen, including the boss.

Very hospitable, we arrived late but it was great.

I highly recommend Gauchos. The waiter from Cologne was very accommodating and friendly. The food was truly excellent. We had an appetizer platter for two and had to take half of it home because it was so plentiful. A little of everything to try, with delicious dipping sauces. The main course, an Argentinian steak, was tender as butter and, just as ordered, with a slightly pink center. The mixed fajitas platter was also very tasty and a bit spicy, but bearable. The dips were delicious, too. The non-alcoholic local wheat beer was very tasty and didn't taste like non-alcoholic beer. Even our dog was given water without asking. All in all, a very pleasant evening. The total amount was €105, which was acceptable for what we got.

We were there for 2.5 hours and left without a main course. All the other tables got their food before us. We definitely won't go there again. It was a complete disappointment.

Unfortunately, even after more than a year, the new owner hasn't really improved. The service is understaffed and unprofessional. Very long wait times. We would have liked to have had more drinks, such as cocktails or dessert, but this wasn't possible due to the overwhelming demand. The generally good overall rating comes from the previous owner. I simply don't understand how so much could go wrong. Gauchos has truly been around for decades, but with this tenant, it's only a matter of time.

Unfortunately, the worst restaurant experience ever. I've been to Gauchos many times over the past few years and have always loved it. But now, with the new owner, it's simply terrible. We waited forever for the menu, then forever for the drinks, only to get the food 1.4 hours later. Then the cutlery was missing. By the time it came back from the kitchen, the steak and burrito were cold. The staff tried hard but were completely incompetent. They didn't know how to mix a margarita. They were wearing sweatpants, a baggy T-shirt, and were unkempt. There was junk lying around next to the counter for everyone to see. We were still eating when they turned down the music. No one asked if we wanted another drink or dessert. What a shame about the €144 we spent there for the four of us.

Food: Steak was far from medium. Additionally, the steak was cut in several places (possibly to check the doneness). The salad I ordered was completely missing two key ingredients. Starter: Frozen and deep-fried Service: Always attentive Atmosphere: Outside, next to the empty bottle tower. Waiting time: 1+ hour for a salad and a steak. During the wait, the kitchen staff likes to take breaks, smoke, etc. Impossible in a restaurant during peak hours. At the end, we were given a free shot of tequila, a nice gesture, but ultimately, we didn't want to repeat it. The taste was okay, but unfortunately, the steak was overcooked and the salad was missing ingredients, which is simply a no-go at these prices. Almost €30 for a small steak with potato, €15 for a green salad. With a 1+ hour wait, you can easily get through 2-3 drinks at €4.50-5 per person.

Everything's pretty simple but... super nice staff, incredibly friendly, kitchen super fast, food really good. So, some people could take a leaf out of their book. It doesn't always have to be fancy. Today we went to Gauchos and were extremely disappointed. As we live in the Lindau area, we were there for dinner with a private visitor. Since we were traveling with children, we arrived early, practically right at the beginning of opening hours. We had a reservation. The weather was good, and it was quite busy. The service was completely overwhelmed. They couldn't provide any further information about the menu (what's the market vegetable menu?). Drinks, ordering, etc., took a while because it was busy. So far, it was okay. After about 35 minutes, we finally ordered... We had ordered 5 dishes: Quesada Pollo Cheese Burger Gauchos Special Burger Fajitas Pollo Chicken Nugget (children's menu) with fries After another 60 minutes, the Quesada, Chesese Burger Gauchos Special Burger only - the Gauchos Special Burger wasn't special (with egg and bacon). Upon inquiry, they said: they're out of bacon. Along with the statement: they're also out of chicken nuggets. No one there. At that moment, my son's world collapsed. Mind you, we were there at opening time - not that the chicken nuggets were sold out. Nothing was said when we ordered either. Not even shortly after - only AFTER the first food arrived did the cancellation come. The fajitas NEVER arrived - the quesada and the cheeseburger were eaten, the not-so-special Gauchos Burger was returned, and then I had to quickly find something else with my son. And there were no "crunchy market vegetables" in the quesada either. At least nothing that we could have recognized as such. In fairness, the waitress was friendly and canceled the burger immediately, and the regular cheeseburger was apparently very tasty. Things can go wrong sometimes - and I don't mind longer waits when it's busy. Nevertheless - it wasn't a successful evening, as much as I'm sorry. And there were a few things here that, unfortunately, were just not acceptable. And I have to say, it really ruined our evening. I hope this is an isolated incident... In the past, Gauchos was definitely recommendable.

Although the staff was very friendly, this restaurant is the definition of cultural appropriation. I'd be very interested to know where the chef is from, because this food isn't Mexican. Someone traveled to Mexico for ten days and thought they could make something similar and make money from it. I'm from Latin America and understand that people here might not have proper access to the ingredients, but I cook better Mexican food at home than this restaurant. I'm truly sorry that someone would want to exploit a culture like that. I'm never coming back.

The food was delicious. It was beautifully presented and served quickly. The staff (waiters) were very friendly and had a lot of fun with both the little ones and the adults. The prices were also very fair for what you get. Definitely recommended.

We were completely satisfied. The appetizer platter was absolutely delicious, the fajitas were amazing, the burgers were fantastic, and the stuffed tortilla was great, too. The service was super friendly, nothing to complain about. We'll be back!

There were eight of us. The service was unfriendly, didn't even look at you. They got angry with guests who had "special requests." Food was sometimes delivered to the wrong tables, and the wrong dishes were delivered. Side dishes were forgotten and never arrived. The meal was served in four batches because they couldn't manage to bring more than three meals at once. The last person received their food about an hour later than the first. Vegetarian food was delivered with meat. The flatbread for the fajitas arrived about 20 minutes later than the fajitas themselves. Drinks were lukewarm. One dish was cold. When paying, I discovered that the bill included more items than I had ordered. When I asked for a correction, I was initially turned away. Then I had to endure insults from the server when I insisted on adjusting the bill and mentioned that I wasn't satisfied with the service. Unfortunately, the worst restaurant experience ever.

We're actually here once a week! At least a 1 kg steak every time. It's always been perfect, from the taste to the presentation. The owner comes to the table every time and asks if everything was okay. Every little criticism is taken seriously and we try to implement it. We're thrilled and will be back.

I wouldn't recommend this place. The food was nothing. The appetizer platter was simply greasy, the shrimp were dry-cooked, everything was very greasy. There was very little meat in the fajitas. Unfortunately, the beer wasn't very cold either. There's a large outdoor seating area, mostly in the shade. The paint on the tables is chipping, and the chairs were quite hard. The service was very attentive and friendly. The fact that you have to choose a time slot when making a reservation (I think it was 5:30-6:30 or 7:00-8:00) is beyond me. When we were there, not even a quarter of the tables were occupied. Unfortunately, the quality and the spirit went with the last owner. What a shame.

We were initially really looking forward to the Mexican food. I have to say, unfortunately, that I couldn't identify what was sold to us as Mexican food. The lobster soup was more of a spread than a soup. The shrimp in garlic oil was only lukewarm. And the main courses consisted of more onions and peppers than any meat. The dips and sour cream were completely tasteless and bland. Unfortunately, this was probably our last visit there.

For the first 10-15 minutes we were greeted nicely and served - from then on it went downhill. We arrived right when the store opened in the afternoon and the toilet was so dirty (also with a lot of brown on the toilet seat) that I was about to leave. The food, which was advertised as extra spicy, was at most lightly seasoned, and in general it was very bland for Mexican food. We tried to order drinks twice but were forgotten each time. Dan bought me something to drink at the gas station because I was almost dying of thirst in the sun. The boy who served us at the end (around 20) not only seemed completely unmotivated and uninterested in the customer, he didn't even say thank you for the (unearned) tip and couldn't even say "bye". He took the money and left without a word. I've never experienced that before. There was no music either - Mexican feelings didn't arise at all. It was really absolutely bad, even if the food was edible

The Gauchos is cozy and harmoniously furnished with great attention to detail. The food was great. There was a lot going on when we were there. The waiting time was already long, but was put into perspective with a tequila on the house. What is strange, however, is the reason why only cash payment is possible.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed. The restaurant used to be very popular and well-known. But this time was really the last time for us. The appetizer platter was somewhat ok, except that the shrimp smelled and tasted very strange and a lot of it was lukewarm. The main courses were the biggest disappointments. The Combinados Grill plate was 80% peppers and onions 2 mini cubes of beef 2 mini cubes of chicken and 2 shrimp and they were cold. The sauces were tasteless and calling the weird avocado paste a guacamole is a joke. Unfortunately, salsa was also very bland. The burritos were not at all tasty in terms of taste. These were also lukewarm. Mexican cuisine should be an explosion of flavors. You can't talk about that here. Really a shame. Price-performance ratio very inadequate.

I was at Gauchos in Lindau with my friends on Valentine's Day. The ambience is really great and something unusual, which definitely speaks for the restaurant. The food was also good, although in theory you have to prepare everything yourself, which didn't quite meet my expectations. I would have expected a little more for the price, as the concept is interesting but doesn't quite reflect the price-performance ratio. Nevertheless, we had a nice evening and the food was delicious

Had fajita with beef. Hardly any meat but an incredible amount of onions and a bit of pepper. Service was very friendly, unfortunately the food was rarely so bad. Unfortunately I can't understand the great reviews.

Sometimes it's the little things that lead to this, like a change of ownership or change of chef. The taste of my dish was good, but you could tell that the ribs were warmed up. So not from the sous vide or the steamer to the grill, but rather how the meat tastes when it is reheated. Too bad. UPDATE: August 11, 2020 We were back!!! Damn delicious again 😘 The best Mexican I've visited so far! 🤗 The boss always tries to accommodate you, even if it's full and you didn't make a reservation👍 My absolute favorite is the Surf & Turf *yammi*😋 Highly recommended 👍 We'll come back on our next vacation, promise 😊 Then with reservation 😅

"Mexican enjoyment or patience training?" I didn't know you had to have so much patience in life - thanks to the Mexican restaurant for the most exciting time-stretching experience since the last tax return! Anyone who thought the wait for the train was long has never eaten at this restaurant. We were on hold for life for over two hours. It took so long that I almost felt like I was trapped in a Mexican time warp where the service simply ignores the concept of time. The reward was the food, but – surprise! - but every now and then you didn't have what the waiter advertised and hey, after almost two hours it can happen that you have forgotten what you ordered. After all, it seemed like a culinary adventure without a map. But HELLO! We are flexible – at least it was delicious. Conclusion: The food was ok. But I will probably approach the next trip to the “time delay temple” according to the host’s philosophy. Goodbye

😂😂 Very slowly again. I had to read the text 3 times and can't believe it. Due to the increased electricity and especially GAS PRICES, card payments are no longer possible. I just can't draw this bow. Is the card reader powered by gas or does it have a power plug? Does the gas bill have to be paid in rubles? Or is the idea here not to make your sales so obviously visible to the tax authorities? If the argument were based on fees, I might still understand it. Even then, I couldn't explain it, since these fees should be factored into a healthy calculation. Very interesting..... I watch and don't judge!

The food was good - large portion. There was nothing going on that evening - the only thing that really bothered us - there was a song playing relatively loudly on a continuous loop throughout the evening.

It used to be a great inn where you were happy to put up with waiting times. Unfortunately I've been disappointed three times now. Was definitely our last visit. Unfortunately everything went wrong yesterday. Our starter was forgotten and after almost 50 minutes the main course arrived. Upon request, the starter was made and they wanted to keep the main course warm (surf & turf and burger). We preferred to have the main course straight away because no one wants to eat leftover beef. The portion of surf and turf has become extremely smaller. Unfortunately the burger wasn't even lukewarm. The bread was even ice cold. I also got the wrong side dish for the burger. The reason was a power problem, but this could also have been noted when making the reservation by telephone. We didn't have this power problem on the last two visits and we were still disappointed. Very, very unfortunate!

Eat: Steak was good and to the point as requested. What was inappropriate was the balsamic decoration on the plate, which really disturbed the taste of the meat. Potato was very tasty and so was the sour cream. Quesada Pollo was very onion-heavy, par for the course as the primary "crunchy market vegetable" which was a shame. Service: Very nice and friendly, but not very attentive, it was a bit difficult to order new drinks because you didn't even look into the room behind the counter. Ambience: Very tight seating, so that when the restaurant was full you had to squeeze between some tables and hear every word at the neighboring table. Otherwise very harmoniously furnished. I would have preferred to give 0 stars. Unfortunately no longer recommended since the change of ownership! There were 11 of us who made reservations and had to sit at a table that was too small. We sat there arm in arm, like chickens on a perch. It must have been half an hour before our order was taken. It took a long time before the drinks finally arrived. We're almost dried out in the heat in there. We also had to wait forever for our food. 8 out of 11 people then gradually received their food. 3 people were forgotten. When it seemed strange to us, we asked the waitress if our food had been forgotten. We were then answered with a strange grin and “oh sorry”. No question as to whether we still wanted our food, no apology, nothing. Then asked for the bill. Since we didn't want to pay together, we had to pay in advance. To top off the evening, the waitress didn't have enough change

Until the change of ownership, Gauchos was really a recommended restaurant. We haven't been going there since the change. The service has become very poor and ordered food is forgotten or mixed up. Unfortunately, you can't expect an apology there. Very unfortunate

No longer recommended after change of ownership. We (3 people) got the main courses even though we were only half finished with the starters. Waiter's comment: Oh, were we too fast? The main course, spare ribs, was tough and almost inedible, the potato wedges were hard and had been in the deep fryer for far too long, the burger didn't have what was on the menu and the potatoes were also very dark and very hard. The baked potato was good. At the end we got a tequilla on the house, the waiter spilled one!! So overall there is a lot of room for improvement!

We were returning from Austria to Germany and we were hungry. A Mexican restaurant with good reviews turned out not to be ok. We waited an hour and were assured that the order would be ready soon. We paid for the Coke which we got 20 minutes after placing the order and went. I don't recommend it

There were four of us in the rustic Gauchos and we ate very well. Fajitas in hot pans in different variations, burgers and delicious starters, very original US ice tea. The service is “hands-on” ;-) but with heart and humor. We like it. At the end there was tequila on the house. So we would love to come back!

Ambience: it looks a bit untidy outside. Old shabby tables. Service: 1 waiter was very friendly, the other waiter (young girl) was very awkward and not very hospitable. Procedure: We sat at a free table because no one welcomed us. 10 minutes later they bring us the menus without asking if we want something to drink. After another 10 minutes we were informed that it was unclear whether the table had already been reserved. Why don't you put up a reservation sign? At some point, about 15 minutes later, we were informed that the tables were not reserved and only then could we order. We ordered the starter and main course in one go, unfortunately both courses were brought at the same time. I also had to ask the waitress to bring me the drink twice because I had to wait so long. The steak was very good and the burito too. The grilled prawns with garlic oil were a disappointment. 10€ for nothing. They were drowned in oil and tasted like nothing. The salad is also extremely boring and the whole way it is presented is very unimaginative. We could also notice that other guests had waited a long time to eat and drink and that some of them had to change tables because they were reserved. If you don't have any signs saying reserved, you can also take a postit and stick it on the table saying there is a reservation. All in all, you can say that my wife and I were there for the first time and we'll leave it at that!

Were there around 6 p.m. with 4 people. Service was a disaster. We weren't served for half an hour and then it took another 30 minutes for the drinks to arrive. And another 45 minutes until the food came even though we were one of the first to order. Food was good. Another drink came after 2 hours and another drink didn't come at all. Another couple at the next table only received one meal that they had ordered and the other meal was forgotten. I would never eat there again. It was a terrible end to a lovely day.

Half an hour after arrival we asked if we could have something to drink. Another half hour later the cocktail finally arrived. I ordered a third cocktail that never arrived. After the food order was taken it took an hour for the food to arrive. My friends and I were one of the first guests at 5:30 p.m. We were there for almost 2 hours but only ate for 15 minutes. Conclusion: You can't expect any guests to wait. But the food was tasty. Was the first visit and the last.

Unfortunately not recommended... We had to wait 2 hours for our food. There were empty containers in the dining area which attracted a lot of wasps. The food was over salted. When paying, the waiter miscalculated and later added the bill to a friend... that's not possible! Overall we were very disappointed

The table wasn't cleared for hours... the amount was then the steak was ordered but the more expensive filtere was billed, after complaining you still had to pay. The entire evening was just bottomless impudence

CATASTROPHE!!! Never again. The good reviews come from the fact that the store used to be great. But since the owner, it's pure cheek!! Card payment no longer possible. You are not served. The food comes wrong and you still have to pay for the more expensive dish even though you ordered something different. Tables are not cleared and, worst of all, the service has no insight. STAY AWAY

I used to love coming here... BUT it's been a disaster for a few months!! You are not served, you have to get the card yourself and ask for plates and cutlery. Appetizer comes before drinks. Instead of still you get mineral water. A drink is missing. Waited an hour for drinks, one of which ended up on our lap. Steaks one through, 2 rare instead of medium. After the complaint... the steaks were fried again and came on swapped plates... Well, it doesn't have to be that way. A steak was super small and certainly not 300 grams. Tables were not cleared, tables were still standing for hours with dirty dishes, you could pay for years. And the place isn't anywhere near full capacity. The poor guests outside have had no light for ages and get tickets themselves and order at the front. All in all never again!!!

Service terrible!!!! A catastrophe since the change of ownership!!! You don't get served, you wait hours for your food. Half of them eat wrong. Drinks wrong. Terrible

We made reservations by phone for 2 p. After arriving, I waited inside at the counter for 10 minutes because the waitress had to place a larger drink order. Twice a moment please. I'm patient, no problem, although she could have asked along the way. When you leave, “have you made a reservation”? Yes, can we sit outside where it's free? Grumpy, "Yes." We sat down at a table that was as far away from the loud music as possible. The table wasn't cleared like others. The waitress didn't come to ask us what we wanted or to clear the table, but instead asked me to move my chair so that I could straighten out a chair at the empty table next door! After another 10 minutes, in which no one was interested in us, we left again.

The food and even the drinks arrived at the tables after a long delay. The waitresses were haphazard and overwhelmed. In terms of taste, the food was still good.

We were 8 people. Appetizer came quite quickly. Main courses arrived after about 60 minutes. 2 out of 8. The other dishes came one after the other. The first ones were finished eating and the last ones got their food. This was already cold. In addition, we were never asked during our stay if everything was ok or if we wanted anything else. When it came to billing, everything went haywire and none of the 4 invoices were correct. When asked, people responded with annoyance and had to pay close attention to what was being calculated.

Die ersten waren fertig mit essen da bekamen die letzten das essen. Dieses war auch schon kalt. Zusätzlich wurden wir während des Aufenthalts nie gefragt ob alles ok ist oder wir noch etwas wollen. Bei der Abrechnung ging alles drunter und drüber und von den 4 Rechnungen hat keine gestimmt. Nach Nachfragen reagierte man genervt und man musste genau aufpassen was gerechnet wurde.
