Restassen in Essen

Great atmosphere, unusual dishes for those who like to experiment. Attentive and courteous staff, but... for 4 people a starter soup, 6 pieces of bread with garlic sauce, 4x buffet and 4x dessert and 2 drinks for each... for 216 euros... I think it's pretty hearty. Why does fancy food have to be so expensive? I definitely don't have to go there anymore. It's a shame that some people have to exaggerate it so much...

Mongo's in Essen has been my absolute favorite restaurant for years! The ability to put together your own food and have it fried straight away is simply brilliant. You can always try new things and enjoy the fresh ingredients. Brunch is also a highlight - I always enjoy the delicious soups in particular! The restaurant offers a huge selection that allows everyone to find the right dish - whether with allergies, vegan or for religious reasons. It's practical because everyone can put together something that suits their needs. What particularly impresses me is the consistently high quality of the ingredients and service for more than 15 years. The staff are always friendly and helpful and often know what I want before I even say it. For anyone who loves delicious, fresh food and wants to dine in a relaxed atmosphere - Mongo's in Essen is always a top choice!

My absolute favorite restaurant, now a must for me every 1-2 months :) Food is always excellent, service is great - everything is perfect :) I can recommend it with confidence ;)

Very suitable for vegetarians. I liked the concept. You pick up what you like from an array of vegetables, noodles, etc. and choose the sauce. The bowl is cooked and served to your table. For unlimited meal, you can go as many times as you can with different ingredients and sauces.

Very, very good food, a little more expensive than others, but very, very good quality and performance. Very nice team. We will definitely come back.

I love the concept of Mongo's. Everything is freshly prepared with your choice of homemade marinades, which are super delicious. There is something for everyone and the homemade lemonades are also very tasty. It's a shame that Mongo's in Dortmund is closed, but I'm driving 60 km to Essen for that. Absolute recommendation 👌🏽

The restaurant is advertised as all-you-can eat on Tuesdays of every week, and to be honest, I didn't really understand the whole concept at first. There's a lot to explain about sauces, desserts and starters, which the service staff is really nice about. But for me as an introvert, the whole thing is too much. I want to go to the spacious buffet and eat what I like, completely relaxed - and that's not the case here. It is also very crowded and quite loud.

Mongo's is totally unsuitable for allergy sufferers. I react to soy and have had massive problems. The only thing missing is the emergency room. Although it is prepared individually in the pan, no care is taken to clean it for allergy sufferers. Good idea, really bad implementation. Some waiters are completely overwhelmed and you wonder whether they understand you. Then it was way too crowded and my partner had to sit in the aisle. That was very unpleasant. All in all, absolutely not worth the money. Once and never again.

Mongos has been around in Essen for ages. It was the first Mongolian buffet restaurant in the region. Anyone who pays the relatively high price will be rewarded with very good tasting food. The marinades here are more like sauces than in any other Chinese restaurant. This cannot be compared in any way. You should definitely test several sauces and try different vegetables and meats. The two of us sat by the window and found it very good. There was a bit of a hiccup in the back of the room. The ambience itself is nice, the buffet and the open kitchen are well integrated. Unfortunately, the smell from the open kitchen gets into your clothes. We found it very entertaining here, you didn't have to wait long, sometimes there were short queues at the buffet, but it all went through quickly. It is still more of a place where you can take your time. There are different concepts when it comes to eating, pure all you can eat, a la carte and by weight. By weight it can be worth it, as you never pay more than the full all-you-can-eat price. Unfortunately we didn't manage to make dessert, but the baked vanilla ice cream on the table next door looked awesome.

We had the Christmas buffet today, which was very plentiful. The starters left us wanting more and the main courses had a wide selection. Everything was possible vegan, vegetarian and all types of fish and meat for the Mongolian grill tasted delicious. The dessert also left nothing to be desired. A recommendation goes out.

We always really enjoyed going to Mongos but today we were unfortunately very disappointed. The marinades, Mongos Barbeque and Malay Satay tasted different than usual. Malay Satay in particular was very spicy. Unfortunately there was no udon noodles this time. The normal Asian noodles were just fried hard. The strawberry mongonade also had a changed recipe and unfortunately didn't taste good. The store is simply too small and too crowded for that. Things were much nicer and better in Bochum back then. When we started our meal, our waiter was great, but unfortunately his successor wasn't. When serving there was no please so they said a friendly thank you and he didn't say thank you for the tip either.

We spent our Christmas party there. The staff was really friendly and tried to bring orders as quickly as possible. It was very crowded and loud but still comfortable. The food was incredibly tasty and everything that came from the grill ended up on the table still really hot. Compliments to the entire restaurant staff!

We dined there with friends and the dining experience was disappointing. Unfortunately we were unable to experience any culinary highlights. It was just bad. Those who have written good reviews are either satisfied with little or they are manipulated reviews from friends or acquaintances. We often went to a Mongolian restaurant in Oberhausen and were always very satisfied. Our experiences with a Mongolian restaurant were entirely positive. There was also the opportunity to consume dishes that were ready for immediate consumption. Meat and fish could also be prepared on the grill. Apart from soup, the Mangos restaurant in Essen does not offer any dishes that have already been prepared. You choose meat/fish and then it is grilled. And it doesn't even taste good. For the salad, which you can put together yourself, it would be desirable if salad dressing were also offered, and not just vinegar and oil. This is notable because a diverse selection of salad dressing is common at every buffet. Unfortunately, the dessert did not meet our expectations and also came from a bag. The restaurant was busy, which is surprising considering the poor quality food. It would be interesting to know whether guests frequent the restaurant primarily because of the low price. Is it because you can get full for relatively little money?

Christmas party had everything great 😄

After a long time, I finally went to Mongos Essen again. Unfortunately, the last visit wasn't as good as the previous ones - so it took some time before we visited again. And what can I say? The evening was very successful. Wonderful (homemade?) lemonade, three different courses with different marinades that all went perfectly. The warm bread and the dip served are always great. Service was quite good (despite the farthest corner). Unfortunately it was very loud again, which cannot be avoided when the tables are quite close together like here. Nevertheless, as I wrote at the beginning, a great evening with wonderful food. We'll be back soon.

Very great principle with the different marinades. You choose a sauce, fill a bowl with vegetables, fish and meat and go into the kitchen to fry it. I especially find shrimp and fish with the chili garlic sauce delicious. For Advent brunch there was also a soup bar and even fresh waffles that you could top yourself with warm sauces, hot cherries and ice cream. It's not cheap but definitely worth it. In addition, the service is above average for a buffet. I would recommend reserving a table. Marinades are clearly indicated for vegans and there are lots of vegetables, tofu and meat substitutes.

The food is delicious, the staff is super friendly. Unfortunately it's always very, very full. Therefore not a nice atmosphere, very loud and you have to wait a long time for your food. If that doesn't bother you, this is exactly the right thing for you.

Everything was great, delicious food, great service.

The two of us were there at 6 p.m. on a Friday. The service was nice and courteous, the food was also really good. Everything was always fresh and the selection was great. The only criticism is the noise and the cramped seating. One less table would improve the ambience. Otherwise very tastefully decorated.

Buffet for 30€. You choose your sauce, go to the buffet and let them fry everything. Sauces are available from normal to extremely hot (approx. 10 pieces). If that's not enough, there's also some chilli oil. (Don't put your hands in your eyes afterwards). Buffet has all the veggies that belong in a curry and 10 different types of meat and fish. Also unusual like ostrich, llama or zebra.

The insect snack is recommended....but it should perhaps be seasoned in advance (such as peanuts), because that way they are still delicious...and that's how I know it from Vietnam and Cambodia.

It was really great. For vegetarians, a large selection of vegetables, pasta, etc. The lemonades are also highly recommended!

It's wonderful how Mongos has developed further. A huge vegan selection of vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds. The sauces are classics. Unfortunately, the sharpness was different from the description. But otherwise very good. A little salty. Overall quite loud (like Alex, Sausalitos). It wasn't until after 9:30 p.m. that people could talk in peace. Prices are very reasonable. Thanks for the good cuisine! Luckily there is only a little meat, some still exotic crocodile, llama and kangaroo. I don't want to imagine the husbandry and slaughter.

Mongolian buffet in a class of its own. Very attentive staff, food high quality and fresh. Delicious. The atmosphere is chic. Very cozy. We were there for brunch at Easter and at brunch there are appetizers, soups and dessert, including fresh waffles. If you don't want to eat that much, you can also charge by the gram, so you don't have to take the big buffet. Always an experience.

In fact, it used to be much, much better! What happened here, I seriously asked myself! But here is a brief summary of my last visit: The food: Was quite good, but the selection was much smaller than a few years ago. No more appetizers. Dessert from the buffet average. That's why I ordered this separately. Competitors are definitely more versatile. The service: From quite okay to well. What particularly annoyed me was that I clearly said that please round up your tip to €45. Instead, €47 was typed in. Unfortunately I noticed it too late... The gentleman at the counter where you leave the bowls for cooking snapped at me because I put the bowl on the scales. "This is not for guests!" But it wasn't there anywhere. Also: the sound makes the music! Coffee with oat milk is €0.50 more expensive. Rice is only available upon request and for an additional charge if you choose the “per gram” variant. Ambience: My companion was the only special thing in the room, otherwise not an outstanding location. But on average it was okay. Price-performance: Overall, it's a bit too expensive. The service needs to be improved!

Unfortunately we didn't like it at all. We were there for Easter brunch, which was widely announced. There were no specials at all, except Easter eggs and cheap champagne. Drinks not included and the selection of food is very limited. The food was okay, but I've eaten much better. I find it cheeky to charge 37 euros per person for this!

If you like something unusual and want to eat something different than schnitzel with fries, this is the right place for you. Various vegetables, types of fish and other seafood, as well as unusual types of meat that you can't get in normal restaurants. You put everything together yourself and then the whole thing is prepared fresh on the open roasting plate. To do this you choose a sauce, from sweet to hot. Gastronomy experience for affordable money. I can only recommend. I come here several times a year and don't want to miss it. You can park at Porsche-Platz if there is nothing left on the street. Just try it out yourself.

Always nice here. It's cozy and you can have a good chat. Perfect for a dinner with friends. However, you have to expect 30-40 euros per person. But the buffet is always something very special and super tasty.

We had the pleasure of visiting Mongos in Essen and were completely thrilled. The food was incredibly delicious and the service was perfect. We went there because we were staying with a couple who were friends of ours nearby and it was a fantastic experience to see everything like it used to be. Unfortunately, Mongos no longer exists in our hometown of Münster, but it was wonderful to revive these memories. We enjoyed every moment and can only warmly recommend Mongos in Essen!

Originally it was a 2 star review. Now only 1 star after the restaurant's response. If you didn't like the food in the restaurant, you can rate the food as not tasty. It has nothing to do with a “concept”. Because in a normal Chinese restaurant e.g. B., where all you can eat is offered, different things are prepared with different sauces and we even tasted it better there than here. Original review: We were there and unfortunately very disappointed with the food. Everything is fried together in a wild mix and tastes just salty and all the same with certain sauces. And then there are the very high prices.

Price/performance isn't quite right for me. The all-you-can-eat menu is not worth it if you have a “normal” appetite. The ambience (visually) is convincing, but unfortunately it is really very narrow there and you sit very close to other tables. The volume is really immense when the store is full. There is a good selection of drinks and food that is not "all you can eat" Of course, a selection of insects that can be ordered in appetizer portions particularly stands out. Parking is easy nearby. The staff and chefs are really nice and have a smile despite the stress.

Well-known for years and, if I remember correctly, even the first restaurant with the "Mongolian Grill". Later often copied by almost all Chinese restaurants. Had the buffet and it was delicious. The offer was actually a bit clear, but the quality was good. We had to wait quite a long time for the individual portions, which is probably a bit of a calculation because then you drink more. I can't say what it looks like with plated meals. All in all, the evening was very nice, even if the concept can now be found almost everywhere, at cheaper prices.

There were two of us, but we had booked the table in advance. We were well received and had the choice between two tables. The buffet was great as always with great vegetables, meat and fish. Before. - and dessert. We each had two long drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and coffee at the end. With tip 100€. Small drawback, there is no disabled toilet. The smell in the men's toilets also needs improvement. There is nothing wrong with the cleanliness. We had a nice time at Mongos, the service was very friendly and good

Actually a great restaurant in terms of concept, ambience and cuisine! Unfortunately, time slots were introduced at some point, which completely put me off visiting. I haven't gone there since then, I don't support such customer unfriendliness

Years ago I was in Bochum at Mongos and after it closed I was really looking forward to there being a Mongos in Essen. Unfortunately, I have to say, I have never been so disappointed and angry. It's super uncomfortable and for the hefty price, the buffet and selection is an absolute disgrace. Everything tastes stale. There is no dessert corner and no bread and dip area like there used to be in Bochum. The staff also didn't bring the drinks we ordered and the mood was high long before the store closed. Very bad restaurant I have to say...

Essen 5 Sterne Service 5 Sterne Ambiente 2 Sterne -> 4 Sterne / Gut Das Essen war wirklich sehr gut. Genügend Auswahl, so das man nicht erschlagen wird. Es war perfekt zubereitet. Der Nachtisch war sehr lecker. Der Service super nett und zuvorkommend. Schnelle Bedienung und der Kellner "ließt von den Augen ab" wenn man ihn rufen möchte. Alles perfekt im Blick. Das Ambiente... ja... sagen wir so, wir waren zu zweit und haben den Tisch "neben" uns schnell kennengelernt. Die Tische stehen 30 cm breit auseinander. Gespräche kann man sehr gut mithören und auch von dem Teller des nachbartisches essen wäre kein Problem. Um durch die Lücken zu kommen, benötigt man einen kleinen Hintern. Im grossen und ganzen viele Plätze auf zu engem Raum. Schade. Aber am Ende, 4 Sterne für das Essen und den Service. Die Preise sind ok. Entweder man lässt das Essen wiegen oder frisst sich voll. :-)

Kleines Buffet mit eher wenig Auswahl (kann man nicht mit Asia buffet restaurants vergleichen), dafür aber top Qualität der Zutaten. Verschiedene Fischsorten, scampis, Tintenfisch. Mehrere Fleischsorten. Schwein,Rind, Geflügel, Büffel, Strauß, Känguru uvm. Alles wird frisch zubereitet und an den Tisch gebracht. Kaum Wartezeit. Einfach nur himmlisch vom Geschmack. Der Service ist auch toll. Die Kellner sehr aufmerksam und super nett und witzig zu Kindern. Die Preise, für diese Qualität, absolut in Ordnung. Auch das Ambiente ist toll und nicht zu überfüllt, sodass man am Buffet Schlange stehen müsste. Wir kommen gerne immer wieder. Top!

Sehr leckeres Essen, wir waren alle sehr zufrieden. Die Auswahl an Produkten ist toll und das man sich wirklich alles selbst zusammenstellen kann. Es gibt eine sehr gute Auswahl an verschiedenen Marinaden. Die Kellner waren sehr nett und haben uns alles erklärt. Alles in allem top Lokal.

Haben spontan dort gegessen, ich zum ersten Mal. Es war ein freundliches Ambiente und trotz full House - Dezember/Weihnachtsfeiern - hat es sich gut im Lokal verteilt. Wir würden freundlich bedient und beraten und gut im Blick behalten. Getränke gab es zügig. Die Marinaden sind sehr lecker und die Zutaten am Buffet frisch.

Gemütliches Restaurant mit ausgefallenen Essenesorten. Man kann sich seine Zutaten selbst aussuchen, ob Marinade, Gemüse oder Fleischsorten, und bekommt es am Tisch serviert. Die Zutaten waren frisch und lecker. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Leider riecht es im Restaurant sehr stark nach Essen, weil die Küche mitten im Restaurant ist - was ja aber Sinn und Konzept von Mongos ist. Ich war zufrieden und würde gerne wieder kommen.

Wir sind zu Besuch in Essen und durch zufall hier her, es war etwas anderes/neues und doch sehr interessantes unf leckeres Restaursnt. Das Personal war super freundlich, man hat sich sehr wohl gefühlt. Ich fand das auch sehr toll,das man sein Essen roh selber zusammenstellen konnte wie man möchte unf auch die Soße je nach laune wechseln konnte, es wurde sehr heiss und doch mega schnell gut durch Serviert. Einzige nachteil: die Lautstärke Sollten wir aber irgendwann nochmals kommen, würden wir da immer gerne wieder hin

Durch die Vielzahl an Möglichkeiten sein Gericht zubereiten zu lassen, kann man immer wieder neue Sachen ausprobieren und isst nicht immer wieder das gleiche. Super lecker, top Service und preislich ist es auch für Studenten, wie mich, gut bezahlbar. Klare Empfehlung!
