The food and service are excellent. Compared to other Chinese restaurants within a 30 km radius, you won't find anything better at Red Sun. Unfortunately, the children's toy room is completely dismantled. It's really uninviting and, above all, dangerous, as children are left unsupervised playing with sharp-edged, broken plastic.

Great location at an unbeatable price. Our friends recommended it to us, and we were very satisfied. All the food was delicious, and the selection of drinks included in the price was excellent. Not just Coke and Fanta, but also juices, Arizona iced tea, etc. The coffee and tea were also very good. We reserved the smaller room for our book club, which accommodated about 10 people, and we felt very comfortable there. Highly recommended.

We went here for lunch with a very good friend and were unfortunately very disappointed. The food was only lukewarm in the containers. By the time we arrived at the table and were about to start eating, it was already cold. The taste was also underwhelming – rather average. There was no real service: you get your own drinks and food, and a young woman was simply walking around collecting the dishes. We pointed out to her that the food was cold, but she apparently only understood the word "cold" and then tried to turn on the heater next to our table. Our comment was apparently ignored, because the food remained lukewarm. Unfortunately, you have to give at least one star to leave a review – in our opinion, even that wouldn't be justified.

So, I went to a restaurant with friends today. Unfortunately, we were disappointed 😞 The buffet was okay, let's say. But the food was lukewarm to cold (except for the soup, which was hot). By the time you got to your table with your plate, the food was completely cold. But you can't expect much for the price. Another thing: I don't like waste, and I understand paying €5 if your plate is still half full. But charging €5 for drinks (half a bottle/glass) seems excessive, even if they're included in the price. I can't comment on the service since there wasn't any (except for the woman clearing the dishes), and I got my own food and drinks from the buffet. So, we didn't have a very good experience.

Dear RedSun Restaurant Team, We have always enjoyed being your guests, and as a Mongolian restaurant, we felt you clearly stood out from the competition. However, on January 1, 2026, the German government reduced the VAT rate. Last year, your prices of €32 per adult (evening buffet) were high, but still acceptable. This price included 19% VAT. Now, we visited you in the new year and discovered that the VAT reduction to 7% is not being passed on to customers. On the contrary, despite the reduction, the all-you-can-eat price has increased to €34. At first glance, this seems like "only" a small increase, but when you factor in the VAT reduction, it's truly drastic. A double increase, and indirectly at that – this is not customer-friendly or hospitable. ... In fact, the price on the menu should have been around €29 after the price reduction—but here it's €5 more, and we're no longer going down that road. The government's intention wasn't to increase restaurant profit margins, but to provide relief for customers. The actual price increase here is 18%! All the best!

Only two stars this time. We reserved four weeks in advance, but the table assignment was problematic. The buffet (December 26, 2025) was very dirty. New food items were simply piled on top of the leftovers. And a special greeting to the overbearing parents... we have grandchildren ourselves, and they were with us. It's not nice when small children are left alone at the buffet, touching everything and then putting it back. Not very appetizing.

The restaurant initially made a good impression; we were quickly shown to a table after making a reservation. There was more than enough food and drinks, and a good selection. However, this was all for naught when it was cold and we were suffering from stomach cramps about an hour and a half later. Since we were a large group, quite a lot of dishes accumulated. The turntable in the middle became so full that they had to stack the dishes, which wasn't a pretty sight. Conclusion: Once was enough, never again.

The food was terrible – cold, poorly seasoned, and with very little choice. The drinks were the only acceptable part. The tables near the entrance were completely misplaced; you were sitting in the draft. The room to the right of the entrance was freezing cold, and we weren't given a new table. Two groups of guests left without a refund. The prices were outrageous for the quality of the food. There was a €5 surcharge per person because of the holiday, and children were charged €2.50 per year of age.

We went here for dinner on Christmas Eve. The all-inclusive offer was €39 – a good price. However, you really have to do EVERYTHING yourself, even get your own drinks. There's no personal service anymore. They just show you to your table and take your payment. No one asks if everything is alright, not even when you pay. There's no background music, and it feels like a cheap industrial cafeteria. As for the food: A lot of the buffet was lukewarm to cold. The only hot items were the fried bananas. Two years ago, everything was fine! Unfortunately, we won't be coming back. It's a shame the restaurant has deteriorated so much.

We returned to the Red Sun in Mettmann after two years. A lot has changed, unfortunately for the worse. At the entrance, it says that everything is included, which is only partially true. You can only take a maximum of two beers; after that, it costs €2 per bottle. At a price of €33 per person, with children paying €2.10 per year of age, and considering the fact that the food is cold (compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area), this restaurant is not recommended. Even the coffee from the machine is lukewarm. However, I do like that you have to pay a penalty if you leave a half-eaten plate or drink. My conclusion: Completely overpriced for what you get. The staff (Chinese) are unfriendly—no thank you for your visit or even a smile. The rest of the staff don't speak German. In my opinion, there is no service. For €80 for two adults and one child, you can eat much better elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I find it hard to understand the rave reviews. Initial impressions were good: spacious area, no crowds at the all-you-can-eat buffet. Excellent drink selection, and you could help yourself. Prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, the room temperature was a bit chilly (at least that's how it felt). Noise was still bearable, although you could inevitably overhear conversations at the next table due to the generally loud atmosphere. Overall, a rather stressful restaurant experience, not least thanks to the annoying robots that drive around the tables and constantly hum "Happy Birthday." Service was moderately adequate. Used dishes were cleared away immediately after each meal. Otherwise, no eye contact, let alone a smile, from the staff. In my personal opinion, the meals were anything but authentic Asian cuisine. Most of it was fast food, with the exception of the dishes that are freshly prepared upon request (venison, beef, etc.). All in all, it reminded me of a low-end, high-calorie chain restaurant. I'd only recommend it for a one-time visit.

Service has been almost nonexistent since the switch to self-service. Whatever you put together to fry is drowned in cheap sunflower oil. It's loud, greasy, and no longer as varied or fresh as usual. Plus, €33 for the buffet isn't cheap either—too expensive for children, in my opinion. And the robot is beyond annoying.

A fantastic restaurant guaranteed to cater to every taste. The entire buffet is huge, with ready-made breaded dishes and/or freshly prepared meat. Beef, pork, veal, kangaroo... Everything is there!!! Plus plenty of side dishes, and if you want, you can indulge in dessert. We haven't experienced a comparable Asian restaurant yet. We will be back soon... The only recommendation for everyone is: Go there and be amazed.

Update! Unfortunately, I have to deduct two stars – they advertised MSG-free food, and that's why it was the only buffet I could eat. I felt very, very sick on the last two visits. Upon asking, they said: Yes, we also use MSG. Apparently not for very long, because I didn't have any before. But then you have to point it out, and what's the point? The food was always great before, even without the garbage! Great food, although the meat is sometimes half-raw at the live grill. Very nice atmosphere, friendly waiters. We love going there, and would love to go there often, but unfortunately, it's a bit too expensive.

For larger groups, they even offer the option of renting a separate room, which we found particularly convenient. The accessible restroom is a bit of a letdown, as the floor was a bit sticky and the changing mat wasn't entirely clean. Luckily, I brought my own. Perhaps there's room to improve this, and then it would be perfect for us.

Disappointment after concept change – service quality unfortunately significantly declined We have been frequent and happy guests at this restaurant. We enjoy the food, we really like the ambiance, and we have always appreciated the friendly and attentive service. Since the switch to a fixed-price concept including drinks (€33 for "All You Can Eat & Drink"), however, our impression has unfortunately deteriorated significantly. On our last visit, neither our plates nor our bowls were cleared away – even though the restaurant wasn't even full. Instead, at some point, a server came by with a serving cart, stood next to our table, and began piling the dishes on it. It was more reminiscent of a cafeteria and seemed uninviting. Another unpleasant moment arose when paying: Due to a misunderstanding between us, we initially paid by card without a tip – shortly afterward, the cashier asked us in an unfriendly tone whether we wanted to finish the bottle on the table. We were aware that you would have to pay extra for unconsumed drinks, as it was posted on the notice boards on the tables. However, the way the request was made was inappropriate and lacked any sensitivity. We find it unfortunate that the new concept has apparently also significantly deteriorated the quality of service. It was precisely this quality that always made our visits pleasant. This time, we were unfortunately disappointed.

We have better memories of the Red Sun. About a year ago, we went there twice and were very satisfied. The buffet offered delicious food, everything seemed fresh and beautifully presented. So we wanted to go back last night (as we were visiting). When we entered, we were a bit surprised: it was very warm and extremely crowded, with children running back and forth between the buffet aisles and into the path of the friendly robot. When we found a seat, we noticed that the tables were dirty and practically "sticky." I then went to the buffet and saw unloved and dried-out dishes. I still tried a few things, but they didn't convince me (anymore). We had the "grill master" fry/grill one fish and one meat dish. Of course, it took longer due to the rush of guests—but that wasn't the problem. Unfortunately, both dishes were completely dried out—you could say "fried to death." It was a real shame. Then we tried the "sushi conveyor belt"; it was okay, but nothing more. The staff seemed to have trouble communicating with the guests. Overall, we were very disappointed and won't try it again. Finally, of course, we also visited the restrooms, which was another shock for us. This is, of course, primarily due to the guests, who unfortunately leave the restrooms in terrible condition :-(

Overall, it's a no-brainer. You help yourself at the buffet. The staff is basically just there to quickly clear plates and dishes from the table and clean up the mess. Disappointing – Used to love it, never again We were regular guests at the Red Sun for many years, even though there was a long break of a year and a half recently. The anticipation was all the greater – and the disappointment all the deeper. What once impressed with solid food is now nothing but a lackluster mass-produced affair. The quality of the food has declined significantly – those who value quantity over taste at buffets and the like might still be happy here. We found it simply too bland, too unambitious, and overall disappointing. The always-present "train station atmosphere" has also worsened rather than improved – cleanliness no longer seems to be a priority, and the service staff is either understaffed or absent. Empty plates pile up, and you're forced to either deal with the chaos on the table or transfer used dishes to neighboring tables – that no longer has anything to do with hospitality. The only bright spot: the new self-service refrigerators for drinks – practical because you don't have to wait for a server. But that alone doesn't make up for it anymore. It's a shame, but for us – after so many years – this was definitely our last visit. There are plenty of alternatives in the area that show how to make an Asian all-you-can-eat offering much better.

A regular for years This week we reserved a private room at the Red Sun for a birthday – and like every one of my now over 130 visits, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. As a long-time regular, I can say with conviction: Everything is just right here. Service & Customer Service The staff is extremely friendly, attentive, and pleasantly unobtrusive. The service is always professional and warm. A particularly positive feature is that used plates are always cleared away at the right time – nothing ever looks messy or is left out for too long. Buffet & Quality The buffet is consistently freshly stocked, and the food is always piping hot. The variety of dishes leaves nothing to be desired. A real highlight is the live cooking area: You can select your own ingredients and either watch them being prepared – or be surprised. The finished dish is then brought directly to your table by a moving robot. After removing the plate, simply tap "Ready" on the robot's display – and it moves on. Beverage Innovation Recently, it's also been possible to help yourself to cold drinks from refrigerators – a very practical innovation that provides additional convenience, especially for group visits. The Red Sun is highly recommended! The value for money is excellent. There's a large buffet selection with something for everyone. The drinks included in the price also come in a wide variety. A point deduction is due to the poor quality of the raw meat and desserts.

The food was tasty and varied. In addition to the buffet, which largely offers the usual dishes, there is also the option to have ingredients freshly prepared. These are then brought to your table by a "friendly" robot when they are ready. That's quite original. The buffet prices are reasonable. You can help yourself to as many as you want, and drinks are included in the price. One positive aspect is that the restaurant tries to avoid waste. Anyone who returns more than half a plate or half a bottle will be charged €5. A good idea. The restroom facilities were fine.

Very disappointing; the buffet consisted only of burnt and dried-out food. We arrived shortly before 2:00 p.m., lunch is served until 3:00 p.m., but there were only leftovers. The drinks selection was quite good, but the €22.00 per person was too expensive. We won't be back.

Rich offer There are different buffets: A sushi carousel, "traditional" Chinese food, "Mongolian buffet" (raw dishes are freshly prepared) and dessert (ice cream, cakes, sweets, chocolate fountain). For some time now, the "all you can eat" price of €33/adult has also included a (soft) drinks flat rate, which puts the previous price of €21 plus drinks into perspective.

Hello everyone, I've been to Red Sun in Mettmann a few times but today is 100% the last time in my life. The first thing the boss tries to do is cheat when paying and when it comes to drinks the boss is really counting etc. I no longer feel comfortable as a guest at Red Sun apart from the quality of the food, nothing is refilled, it's just waiting for the people who want to grab the leftovers shortly before the end of the day, sorry. People don't buy the stuff, unfortunately it's just for the bin and I can do that 100% say because a good friend of mine works there unfortunately on the whole Red Sun has now become the last of the last it used to be better today unfortunately you only get frass which is actually not even suitable for the pig barrel that's why dear people avoid Red Sun since if you like heartburn and stomach aches Red Sun Mettmann please don't is a well-intentioned advice from me ❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌

Noisy, lots of children running around (why this is allowed is questionable). Food is ok. Standard, as is usual in such restaurants. The operating/service robot is programmed with fairly loud music. The table on the left directly at the entrance is very uncomfortable, it is drafty because it is near the entrance and everyone can look at your plate. Service is friendly.

On a recommendation, we drove to Wülfrath today (Sunday) to try something new at the Punto restaurant! Starting with an exceptional outdoor area with plenty of small seating. A friendly welcome from the kitchen (bread with homemade wild flower herb quark) A Mediterranean ham and melon platter (with incredibly great, fresh, high-quality ingredients) All the way to a main course that was second to none. I had the entrecôte, which was simply unbelievably delicious and an absolute feast for the eyes. My sweetheart had a pasta Bolognese dish, which was also absolutely exceptional. If I may make one recommendation: treat yourself to something special and go here either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and simply let the chef recommend a meal for you! This definitely won't be the last time we're here.

Not after 2 p.m., there isn't even a snack, soup or sandwich, the staff are short-tempered, otherwise it's a canteen atmosphere, I won't go there anymore.

The best pizza we've ever eaten. I tried to find out the secret of the sauce. No chance. You'd have to kidnap or marry the master chef. Clearly, this master chef is world-class. A true master of the craft. Thank you again for this culinary experience. Unfortunately, there aren't more stars.
