Räucherhaus in Ahrenshoop

We spent a wonderful 5-day break with my golden retriever Hope in the Hering room. The welcome was very warm and the room had everything you could need. The staff was super friendly, the location was very idyllic and quiet, exactly what we were looking for. The beach was a 10-minute walk away. I was able to recharge my batteries and would rent it again anytime :-)

Very good location. Very good beer. The food was tasty, but far too expensive for a self-service restaurant. I had a zander fillet for 22.50, which would have been okay if it had come with side dishes and sauce, but the side dish cost an additional 7.50.

Unique location. Right on the Bodden. The food was delicious. We felt very comfortable in the vacation apartment.

We ate here today. We've known the place for a few years, but with each year, it gets more expensive. Side dishes have to be ordered and paid for separately, but the portions are very good, as is the quality. It's just too expensive for a self-service place. What's worst and most strange for us is that people smoke while others eat. This really shouldn't happen anymore. No consideration for children, pregnant women, or anyone else. A real shame.

Hello. I've been going there once a year for over 20 years. But this was definitely the last time. We were there on October 3, 2025. Again, it wasn't possible to reserve a table. So we had to wait until it was our turn and get a seat. It was 11°C inside and outside. The patio heaters weren't on. All the doors in the restaurant were open. A terrible draft. We waited for our food for about 1.5 hours under these conditions, without any advance notice. When people who had ordered after me finally got their food, I lost my temper. The lady behind the counter then complained to me about why she always gets everything. It was the kitchen's fault... But the toilet was nice and warm, and three half liters were gone before we even got our food. The restaurant owners don't need to do that anymore. You don't have to put yourself through that anymore. The food and beer were, as always, very good. The prices are way too high for a self-service restaurant without service. The harbor and surrounding area are worth seeing, though. The smokehouse's opening hours are also gradually decreasing. Google's information differs from reality. Jan

A beautifully situated restaurant on the Saaler Bodden. It's self-service, meaning you browse the appealing menu at your seat and order your food and drinks in the incredibly cozy and quaintly furnished interior. The extremely friendly ladies behind the counter offer well-intentioned tips regarding drinks and appetizers. This allowed us to try the incredibly delicious fish soup, which is simply amazing! The main courses impress with their excellent value for money. You eat with your eyes and you'll be very satisfied and full, just like you! The icing on the cake is the matching, home-brewed and equally delicious beer! A worthwhile visit, and certainly not the last!

Idyllic location. Unfortunately, no longer an insider tip. The view of the water is beautiful. Also easily accessible by bike. The food. Boiled potatoes with smoked salmon. The price for self-service, okay. You're not forced to. The boiled potatoes were OK. The smoked salmon looked usable and tasted like it came from Aldi. Two ends of the salmon were dried out. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether to go there again. The service. There is no self-service. It is and remains mass processing at prices similar to those with waitress service. Mass processing at the counter with hardly any time to think. Ambience. The location is a big plus. .

We didn't like it. Despite the rather high prices, it's self-service only, which the restaurant's structure doesn't allow for. As a result, there's constant unrest and chaos. The food itself is very good, though.

It's not what it used to be. Self-service, the zander fillet was OK, but the fried potatoes were very oily!!! Too bad... We won't be coming back.

Very uncomfortable. While sheltered from the wind, the plastic windows made it difficult to see through. The location is very nice and the food was delicious, but it's extremely expensive for a self-service restaurant. And on top of the high prices, you have to pay extra for side dishes. The smokehouse next door was unfortunately closed.

I had a fish platter with three different types of fish. The fish was overcooked, not very juicy to not at all, and tasted OK. There were no side dishes. I ordered fried potatoes for over €6, which I find vastly overpriced. No service; food must be ordered and picked up at the counter. Additionally, guests are expected to put their dishes away in a cupboard, which I find the prices quite high. Furthermore, you sit in a snack-style tent where you can hear the tent walls flapping in the wind. Overall, I can't recommend this restaurant. Regards, Johannes

Please study the menu carefully before ordering. A cod fillet for €23 is okay, but add fried potatoes for €6.20 and maybe a salad for €8, and you're immediately looking at €37 for a self-service restaurant. The restaurant thrives on its location on the bike path/Althagen harbor. It's only moderately recommended, as it's overpriced for a self-service restaurant.

The quality of the food is very good. There's something for everyone here. The fish dishes are especially recommended.

An insider tip: delicious food and tasty dark beer. Off-the-beaten-path and very manageable, very nicely decorated, and friendly staff. The dark beer has a hint of licorice flavor, wonderful.

There's another way to be hospitable. The menu is posted outside; you should study it carefully and remember what you want, because you'll have to tell the bar. Unfortunately, there's no menu there to help you remember. If you don't have your order ready, you'll be greeted with an unfriendly greeting. On top of that, you have to fetch your food and clear away the dishes yourself. The prices are steep for all this lack of service.

The food was delicious, a smoked platter for two. Many different types of smoked fish and plenty of it. Everything was fresh and tasty. A few more slices of bread would have been nice. The beer is excellent; we tried all the varieties. No service, as it's self-service. However, it's very expensive. What was irritating was that the side dishes had to be chosen and paid for separately. The location is top-notch.

Unfortunately, a drop in quality within two days. We were there two days ago... it was really delicious, and today it was the complete opposite. The fish was very oily, and the fried potatoes today were an oily, uncooked mush. Sorry... what's going on? Has the kitchen staff changed? Please act quickly... we were very disappointed today!

We discovered the smokehouse by chance. I ate the fish soup and immediately got a second one! It was incredibly delicious. We'll be back for dinner tomorrow evening. A picturesque spot!

The partially implemented self-service concept isn't convincing. If the wait staff comes to the table several times without being asked, why not also prepare the single course for the order? It's illogical and incomprehensible with so few guests. The food was actually quite good, the fish fresh and tasty, but unfortunately, it was drowned "knee-deep" in clarified butter along with the bland fried potatoes. This was unfortunately unsatisfactory in terms of taste and digestibility. The beer from the small brewery is, in my opinion, very expensive.

We're regulars there. If you've been there before: You might be wondering why I'm giving the service 5 stars, since it's a self-service restaurant. That's true, and I completely understand that sentiment. But we're regulars and always sit at the counter and are served there. And when it's quiet, you're often served. The staff is extremely friendly, but also personable. The chefs are personable. I especially recommend it to children, who might snatch a gummy bear or two.

The smokehouse in Ahrensoop is a definite recommendation! The fish we ate was home-caught and very fresh, as well as of top quality. In terms of taste, it was the best fish we've eaten on the entire Darß peninsula. Although the restaurant is self-service and you get a pager after ordering, we didn't find this a problem at all. It also didn't have the feel of a cafeteria, as is sometimes described, as the food is freshly prepared upon ordering. We were particularly pleased that our allergies and intolerances were taken into account. The only drawback: It's not exactly cheap. Personal recommendation: try the cod.

Delicious food. Freshly prepared. It tastes great in the smokehouse. And as always in life, everything has its price; especially service. When do you let go of the "cheap is good" mentality? If the cost factor is too high for you, you should simply stop going there and spare the rest of your (potential) customers the patronizing lectures.

Too expensive for a self-service snack bar with average food. The fish is okay, but the "lobster sauce" is an industrial product that kills the fish flavor. All dishes are priced without side dishes. This means over €30 for a meal. My cautious comment prompted a torrent of chatter ("that's common practice here..." - but we've never encountered it before, and if so, it was at no extra charge), and my Alster beer was immediately overcharged because I wanted apple juice in my beer instead of soda ("juice is more expensive...") - that's never happened to me before, not even on the Darß! High prices are okay if the quality and service are right. Unfortunately, that's not the case here. We can recommend the Charlottenhof or the Grand in Ahrenshoop, instead.

We had a great time; the young lady was very friendly and personable. The food is truly delicious. It's easy to have a good conversation.

Very tasty fish dishes. The prices are a bit high, but you get large portions. I found it a shame that dishes like the fish soup are listed as containing a lot of additives, such as flavor enhancers, which suggests they aren't prepared in-house. Food and drinks have to be ordered inside, paid for, and taken away, or you can bring a buzzer. There were art supplies for the kids. Restrooms were very clean. Unfortunately, there is no free parking for guests.

The food at the Räucherhaus is delicious, and the service is really friendly, but the prices for side dishes are absolutely outrageous. A handful of fried potatoes for €6.20 as a side dish is truly insane. You can eat cheaper at many other fish restaurants with table service than at this self-service restaurant. For me, personally, that's a reason not to eat here again.

The food is really good, the ambiance is rustic inside and functional outside, like a beer garden. The self-service concept is fine, but the separate prices for meals and side dishes aren't. It's simply outrageous.

You normally order and pick up at the counter, but the waiters are very friendly and will happily bring the food to your table when it's less busy. The food was very good, and you were given good advice on your selection without being asked.

The staff was friendly. Everything else was disappointing: the wait, the smoked fish platter for two, the white wine spritzer, and, above all, the price. Not to mention the disturbing images in the restrooms. Maybe I should have opted for the herring and a beer after all.

Absolutely not recommended. Four out of five people had intestinal problems afterward. The food was swimming in oil, unfortunately, two fish died, and otherwise, the food could only be described as tasteless at best. For us, this is a restaurant we won't be visiting again.

Very expensive and then self-service! I don't want to come here anymore! What a shame!

Schade was aus dem Räucherhaus geworden ist. Eine in die Jahre gekommene Kneipe mit schlechten Imbissbudenniveau. Schon beim betreten des überdachten Freisitzes wirkt alles lieblos, schmuddelig, ungepflegt und in die Jahre gekommen. Das Mobiliar ist alt, die Tische klebrig. Die Anmutung ist ungemütlich und und trist. Einen Service gibt es nicht, Selbstbedienung ist angesagt. Die zur Rückgabe des Geschirrs aufgestellten Tablettwagen verleihen dem Ambiente einen Kantinencharme. Das wäre alles noch zu verzeihen, wenn das Essen wenigstens gut gewesen wäre. War es aber nicht. Ganz im Gegenteil. Das Zanderfilet mit Bratkartoffeln für rund 29 € bestand aus drei kleinen, dünnen Stücken Fisch und war leider völlig tot gebraten. Für ein Fischrestaurant ein absolutes Armutszeugnis. Schade, dass dafür ein Tier sterben musste. Neben dem Fisch und einer sehr überschaubaren Portion Bratkartoffeln lag noch ein Esslöffel Rotkrautsalat auf dem Teller und das war’s. Willkommen in den 1970er Jahren. Die dazu gegessene Fischsuppe aus Boddenfischen war okay, aber nichts besonderes, zu süss und wenig fischig. Außerdem wusste ich bis dato nicht, dass auch Lachse im Bodden schwimmen. Hier kommt man sich als Gast schon ein wenig verschaukelt vor. Auf die Ofenkartoffel mit Quark für rund 17 € kann man getrost verzichten, genau wie auf einen nochmaligen Besuch dieses früher mal guten Restaurants.

Food tastes acceptable (matjes fillet), but charging €18.40 for it and an extra €6.20(!) for fried potatoes (bowls) is bordering on usury. And it's still a self-service restaurant?! The parking lot is also subject to a fee! With one drink each we paid a whopping over €50 for two people - we won't be seen here again!!!

Yes definitely. Food was super delicious. 1x floured cod and 1x delicately breaded cod. Additionally boiled potatoes. No frozen goods. Everything freshly prepared. Self-service. Beer from our own brewery.

Overall an alright experience. Nothing special.. The food was just average for the price you play, which I think is quite high for what you get.. The fish soup was actually quite nice I have to say.

We stayed in the smokehouse for two nights. The service was great and the staff were very friendly and humane. We also had our dog with us, who was very welcome by the team. The breakfast was super delicious with a large selection. The lunch also tasted very good and was of high quality. Having a view of the sweet harbor directly from the window was really nice! Price-performance is top in the smokehouse. We were very enthusiastic about our stay and will definitely come back! ☺️

Pay first, then the drink comes, oh help, uniquely bad. By the way, the food too, greasy fried potatoes and the fish, totally over-seasoned, unbelievable! For so much money that had to be earned hard. The waitress was nice. That was it.

“Self-service”, i.e. you order and pay at the counter; Food and drinks are à la carte and brought to the table. The service is super nice and patient. Our food (smoked fish platter) was great, the fish was fresh and apparently smoked ourselves. Great craft beers (my favorite was the slightly smoky dark beer). Nice location right on the Bodden harbor Tip: Be sure to ask about the “Fishing Spirit Ceremony”!

Today we ate salmon and herring in the smokehouse and it was very good. The house beer was also delicious. We liked the facility. Very quaint. We just found the self-service a bit annoying. But definitely worth a visit.

The food must be ordered at the counter and paid for directly. After the meal, the table must be cleared of the guests so that the next guests can be seated. The service has the character of a snack bar, like in a youth hostel. But the prices are consistent with a restaurant with good service. We left without eating.

Was kann da in einem Fischrestaurant schief gehen. Hier alles, von der SB über Qualität, Quantität und Service. Ich gehe nicht weiter ein auf Einzelheiten aber die letzten Bewertungen zu diesem Restaurant treffen zu. Hier wird die Poleposition zu Ungunsten der Gäste ausgenutzt. Als regelmäßiger Gast auf dem Darß kann ich sagen es gibt genügend gute Alternativen in der Umgebung

Such a rustic fish restaurant with great flair and tasteful cuisine...highly recommended and the price-performance ratio is great. Self-service ala GOSCH fits perfectly and the friendly service rounds off our visit to the port of Ahrenshop.

Again absolutely TOP! Very good food, delicious home-brewed beers and everything completed by very friendly, loving service. Although it is “self-service”, the concept works perfectly. It's entertaining to see the service staff in a good mood, always with a relaxed attitude, sometimes humming, brisk and professional, and the communication with the kitchen is also great. The friendliness makes your vacation wonderful!

Disastrous food, at an overpriced price. We ordered the game goulash and the game soup. I don't want to say anything about the price of the basic dish, game is and remains expensive, but paying extra for the side dishes is, in my opinion, an outrage. The taste left something to be desired, no depth and round perfection. Where are the classic wild spices that give the dish its character? The soup tasted 1&1 like the sauce that was used in the game goulash. About the staff: very friendly, you can't say anything, but extremely loud and a bit overly friendly in places. That was our first and last visit.

Completely overpriced!!! especially for self-service. For a main course of €24.00 you have to choose the side dish separately. It doesn't work at all. The beer on tap wasn't cold enough for these mid-summer temperatures. So port, yes, catering never again.

Wir sind schon viele Jahre Gäste im Räucherhaus. Wir haben auch die Umstellung auf SB toleriert, obwohl es lange nicht mehr so gemütlich ist. Aber die Umstellung, dass man nun für die Beilagen zur Kasse gebeten wird … für eine Handvoll Bratkartoffeln - teils verkohlt - wurden 6,20 € in Rechnung gestellt?! Auf unsere Nachfrage wurde uns mitgeteilt, dass diese Umstellung aufgrund der vielen Änderungswünsche bezüglich der Beilagen der Gäste erfolgte und dafür die einzelnen Gerichte im Preis runtergesetzt - was sich uns nicht erschliesst - wurden. Und es fehlt ganz klar der Hinweis in der Speisekarte, dass die freie Wahl der Beilagen „kostenpflichtig“ ist!!!

Leider keine Reservierung möglich, man muss vor der Öffnungszeit da sein um bei schönem Wetter einen Tisch auf der Terrasse zu bekommen. Gerade mit älteren Personen und Kleinkindern ist das unschön. Anschließend muss man an den Tresen gehen um Getränke und das Essen zu bestellen , sofort bezahlen und abholen. Es gibt es keine Bedienung. Das Essen wurde in angemessener Zeit zubereitet und war bei allen sehr gut.

Wir wollten mit einem entspannten Abendessen das wunderschöne Panorama des stillen Hafens von Ahrenshoop genießen. Der Empfang im Restauranr war dann gleich so unverschämt und abweisend, dass wir uns gar nicht erst niedergelassen haben. Wir fühlten uns absolut nicht willkommen. Sehr schade

I have been coming to the Darß for over 30 years. And almost every time I eat at the smokehouse. I accepted that the restaurant prices have increased. But this time I ordered a small cucumber salad with the fish. It appeared on the bill at 8.10 euros. Seriously? For a bowl of cucumber salad (not even fresh, but from the big bucket)? As much as I enjoy eating here, it's just a rip-off and not justified in any way!

My daughter and I spent a week on vacation in the smokehouse. The room is super comfortable and everything was clean. The view of the harbor is beautiful (we were in the “Hering”). So the location is great, you can reach shops and the sea within walking distance of the river. We ate there in the evening and the food is fresh, super tasty and the prices are okay for what you get. The fact that it is a self-service restaurant is marked everywhere. The food is still brought to you and the service girls really make an effort. Sometimes it was rather terrible to see how some guests treated the service staff... We can only recommend the smokehouse for both vacation and dining.

Beautiful little restaurant right at the harbor. We ate wonderfully. The fish soup is to die for. Don't be put off by the self-service. Actually, you order on theses. And the food was brought and the dishes were cleared away. Quality of the food is excellent. Service very very friendly. Great facility. Really worth a trip.

The herring snacks were great, the price for a starter was quite steep at €16, but the view of the harbor with a home-brewed beer made up for it.

First the good, the service behind the counter was very nice and friendly, the salad with the baked potato was good. There were two of us, the dish of cod with fried potatoes was oversalted and the fried potatoes were soggy. The baked potato was undercooked and not even lukewarm. Together with a large cola and a beer we paid around €56, and that in a self-service restaurant. We didn't complain because I don't feel like doing anything like that on my vacation.

Way too overpriced👎 The game goulash was not worth the 20 euros, 5 pieces of meat and an extremely over-seasoned, salty sauce. The supplement also had to be purchased. And then everything is self-service with a snack bar feel. The large salad with smoked fish for a whopping 17 euros was a pile of cheap lettuce, onion rings, tasteless tomatoes and a few cucumbers and micro pieces of pepper. The smoked fish pieces were also very small. The dressing was hard to taste as it was drizzled sparingly over the salad. Our table neighbors were also disappointed with their dishes (little food for a lot of money). The location at the harbor is great, but the food there is not recommended.

The location is of course great. But the quality of the food leaves a lot to be desired. Price performance ratio is not right. And the boiled potatoes that cost 3 euros? Well, I am of the opinion that potatoes are a staple food.

Located at Altenhagen harbor. Relatively large food menu, self-service. Food normal prices, drinks a little more expensive but reasonable considering the location. Staff super nice and attentive. Food delicious, lovingly prepared. Within walking distance to the Altenhagen bus stop or via a beautiful Bodden path from Ahrenshoop, or from the Baltic Sea via the Bakelberg. It's worth a stop, a nice hike around it and just enjoy the Baltic Sea, the lagoon and nature and art!

Wir haben im Räucherhaus am Hafen von Ahrenshoop zu Mittag gegessen: Meine Partnerin Dorschfilet ( 3 Kleine Stücke Fisch und 2 Esslöffel Salatbeilage) 22,90 €. Der Fisch war geschmacklich sehr gut und Perfekt zubereitet, aber im Verhältnis Portion zum Preis schon eher ein schlechter Witz. Da ich grundsätzlich der Meinung bin, dass Fisch, samt Micro Plastik, eher ins Wasser und nicht auf den Teller gehören, habe ich mich für eine Portion Ziegenkäse mit Knoblauch und Minisalat entschieden (14:00 €) Dazu jeder ein Räuchermann Dunkles Bier 0,3L und für gesamt 44,00 € + Trinkgeld, waren wir dann um eine kulinarische Erfahrung reicher Der kleine Hafen mit einigen schönen Holzbooten ist alleine schon einen Besuch wert.

If you like hearty and honest fish dishes without any frills, this is the place for you. Plus good beers from the brewery next door. Spicy and tasty. Friendly and courteous service. Nice atmosphere with a view of original Zeesboats. Great holiday feeling.

Very expensive for a self-service restaurant as all side dishes have to be paid extra. Of course it tasted good but the prices are not worth it. What was very tasty was the beer, I had a wheat beer from our own brewery, totally delicious 😋

I was very pleased with my visit to the smokehouse today. The location in the small harbor is extremely beautiful. I can especially recommend the salmon cream soup and the apple strudel with ice cream and whipped cream with sprinkles. Unfortunately, reservations in advance are not possible. Despite self-service with a beeper, the food was kindly brought to our table in the small dining room. I would have found it even nicer if there was normal table service.

Definitely worth a visit! Very friendly and courteous staff and super delicious food (including dishes that you rarely get anywhere else)! I had dinner there three days in a row in March and was never disappointed! I can only recommend the “Räucherhaus” and would love to come back!
