Ratskeller Oldenburg in Oldenburg (Oldb)

We had reserved a table for lunch today (asparagus dishes). It was very busy inside and outside, so we had to wait a bit longer for the main course, but we were informed of this when we ordered. The starter soup with delicious bread arrived quickly, satisfying our initial hunger. The asparagus and medium-rare steak were perfectly cooked, and the chicken breast was deliciously seasoned and grilled crispy and juicy. Everyone in the service was friendly and very attentive. Thank you for the pleasant experience!

Very motivated staff in a cozy atmosphere, plus the cleverly prepared food and all rounded off with a good wine, that's how a day in Oldenburg can end. Gladly again when the opportunity arises.

Food was delicious. We were there with a group of about 12 people and unfortunately we had 2 tables and that's how we were served and one table got the food when the other table was already ready. That was a shame. But we had a lovely evening there.

Went to the Oldenburg Ratskeller today. The service was nice and the drinks we ordered came quickly. We had to wait a very long time for the food. With the side salad, the dressing was under the salad and not on top. In my Labskaus the mashed potatoes were lukewarm and tasteless. The small neck steak with asparagus and cheese gratin was also only lukewarm. The asparagus was bitter and woody in places. We were disappointed with the food.

We were a group of eight people and had reserved a table online. Extremely nice service. The food was perfectly prepared and came to the table at the same time, even though everyone ordered different dishes. We spent a great evening in good company. Kudos to the staff - it's nice that this location exists.

The Ratskeller in Oldenburg is a great place to eat in the venerable cellar rooms of this old house. The food and the service are great - not only is the service quick and we regularly ask if everything is OK, but the menu that is served is impressive from A to Z. It's not cheap, but it's very good value for money and in enough quantity that guests can literally fill their stomachs. Only the maintenance backlog (defective toilet in the men's area and even more so the broken elevator) leaves something to be desired. If the weather had been nice, we would of course have sat outside and avoided the dilemma (almost 90-year-old mother on board). But it was definitely worth it! Again and again, because Oldenburg is worth a trip.

We ate very well and the service was very friendly. Three types of beer on tap. We would be happy to come back and thank you for the great hospitality

The operating staff was very friendly and accommodating. I can't necessarily recommend eating schnitzel with mushrooms and fried potatoes. The schnitzel was tender but without any taste, the so-called fried potatoes were partly still raw and without any taste. It was explained to us that the fried potatoes also had to be for vegetarians, i.e. without bacon and onions...but the menu didn't say that they were vegetarian fried potatoes, just tossed in a little fat in the pan. Unfortunately not recommended!!!

Went out to eat kale with a small group. Everything is great. Incl. Spoon drink for the out-of-town guests.

The smoked pork was quite fatty, and the fried potatoes had very different levels of crispiness - while some pieces were good, the smaller "leftover pieces" were partially burnt. There was also no rosemary, bacon cubes or a special seasoning that would have given the dish more flavor. In addition, the 0.4 liter soft drink for €6 was served without ice cubes, which describes the price-performance ratio well. Conclusion: Kale always tastes good, but the quality of the food did not match the price.

Was here for a kale meal, great service, nice ambience, kale and side dishes "full". The Oldenburg palm is in good hands here.

Wir und unsere Gäste haben sich wie immer im Ratskeller sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Essen war reichlich und schmackhaft. Das Servicepersonal war freundlich, zuvorkommend und aufmerksam. Es war mal wieder eine rundum gelungene Sache, Freunde von außerhalb für Oldenburg zu begeistern.

Always happy to visit Oldenburg. In contrast to the Google description, there is of course not "Holstein" food here (this is Oldenburg in Oldenburg, not the one in Holstein) but rather Oldenburg regional cuisine, often with seasonal dishes, and also delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes (tip: try mushroom bratwurst)

Very good vegan options for every course. I think it's particularly great that so many of the desserts are vegan. The vegan dishes in particular vary depending on the season.

This evening we were there for the second time. The food is simply great, a very nice selection of vegan dishes ☺️ our waiter loves his job. Even though the kitchen was already closed, a dessert was prepared for us. At the end there was a nice conversation with the waiter. We can definitely recommend this restaurant ⭐️

For dessert we had chocolate pudding. It was totally lumpy. We asked the waiter about it. Why is that okay, he said. We didn't want to pay him, he called his boss. She said, "everyone thinks it's delicious, it would always be like that"! Who else thinks chocolate pudding has to be lumpy? I never knew anyone who liked lumpy chocolate pudding!

The 10 of us were thrilled with the food! Very tasty German cuisine. Broth, different main courses, dessert Hot Love, apple strudel, Mariechen, all very tasty. Always happy again. The only downside was the espresso was sour!

Particularly noteworthy is the friendly waiter from yesterday with the stylish mustache - he is truly an artist in his field. We were very impressed by his incredibly friendly and attentive manner, even in the area of ​​up/crosselling. A big compliment from us! The food was above average and very tasty. The prices are really fair. The only negative point was the waitress at the next table. She seemed very harsh and impatient. Maybe it just wasn't her best day. However, I personally noticed this as a rather negative thing. Thanks for the great evening.

I was only at their stand at the Christmas market... but this is my favorite stand: very friendly service and not as crowded as some other stalls. Unfortunately, this year they skipped the speculoos, which was usually free with mulled wine. But the latter has become more expensive again, and they are not the only ones. On the day of the reservation, we stood in the restaurant in front of a regretful-looking team. The electrics in the kitchen were broken and no food was possible. Unfortunately we didn't get any advance warning, so we had to look for a new restaurant at lunchtime at 12:30. The Prosecco offered doesn't help much either.

Absolute recommendation. The kale portion was also quite decent, so only order from the “menu” if you’re hungry! Service super attentive and friendly.

The Ratskeller is worth a visit for anyone who enjoys home cooking and roasts. Anything that comes from game there is highly recommended. The normal portions are decent, if you are less hungry you can get a small portion. The vegan and vegetarian dishes are also very tasty. The service is really top and the kale is also tasty.

It was another very nice evening. The food was delicious, but unfortunately only warm this time. When asked, they warmed it up again without any problem. Maybe it was our fault for ordering schnitzel to take away. But €50 for that little bit of food is, to put it in German, bottomless. Fried potatoes without bacon and without onions, no salad, unsalted meat and little sauce for the schnitzel. Rarely have I been so disappointed, but strong praise. I wouldn't have thought from the reviews. Ambience looked cozy, staff seemed very nice. Still won't come back 🤓.

We've eaten there twice and it was very good each time. I need gluten-free food and was given good advice about what was possible. The implementation was great and it tasted very good. The staff is very friendly and you can only feel comfortable. I deducted one star from the ambience because I always find it to be quite poorly ventilated. We'd love to come back.

Hmm, how should one evaluate fairly? On the one hand, we had very nice, friendly and courteous service. The ambience was pretty much exactly what you would imagine a “Ratskeller” to be like. On the other hand, the food, as is often the case, can only be assessed subjectively: I've had much better crab soup, very thick and unfortunately only lukewarm. The grill plate was very good in terms of the quality of the meat, but there was a tasteless sauce and fried potatoes without bacon and onions, which made them dry. But unfortunately not hot, but rather lukewarm. So we get a total of three stars.

Have you ever drunk a liter of tap water for €10.50? Since the water in the restaurant tasted like medicinal water, I let it go back and drank 1 liter of tap water. This would have been possible with wine, but not here! So of course my food became very expensive! Be careful what you order!

Home-style cooking consistent from start to finish

If I could, I would very much like to give it six stars: excellent, very well coordinated menu, including vegetarian and vegan cuisine. The hearty food is highly recommended, typical northern German dishes come into their own, I could hardly decide what to try first. Excellent service. I also find a delicious mushroom that takes longer than 2 minutes to be very pleasant and was well tempered. I will definitely come back and am attaching two pictures, one of the Labskaus and one of the Ochsencheeks. Many thanks to the team!

We have just come from the Ratskeller. We ordered a kale dish and a plate of kale for the second person (which of course we would have paid a few euros for, of course) without anything and politely asked if this was possible, which was answered in the affirmative. When the bill comes we are charged for two full dishes. When we pointed out that we didn't order that, we were told that we would have to pay for it because they would have added a few more fried potatoes and a large portion of kale for both of them (but then it was for the second dish There was also no smoker or pee put out, just tons of kale put in a bowl, which I only now realize in retrospect). But we didn't order that and still had to pay for it. Especially pointing this out after the fact is cheating. You don't do that. Either you bring what was ordered or say that you won't fulfill special requests. If we had wanted two portions, we would have ordered two portions. You don't just count yourself in your own pocket and then present your guests with a fait accompli. Very bad. Never again Ratskeller. The waitress was very nice, the atmosphere was nice. But we won't go to scammers again. I advise against such places.

The portions were a good size and were served attractively. In terms of price, you pay a little more, but this is simply justified by the great quality and taste.

We were there with a few people during the day. The restaurant was recommended to us. The atmosphere is quaint and well-kept. The service is friendly but relatively slow. Regarding the drinks, it should be noted that the water is not chilled, which was relatively strange. About the food: the sauces are absolutely delicious, but absolutely necessary for the loins. Unfortunately, I have rarely eaten such dry pork fillet. The side dishes, however, were consistently delicious. However, I expect a certain juiciness, especially at these prices.

In general, solid cuisine. Price-performance ratio may be right, but overall it is too expensive for me personally. If I put a little effort into it at home, I can do it much better. Cauliflower tasted watery, sauce was ok. Zander also good, gratin solid. Almost €30 for that plus drinks? Can be done to have a nice evening with friends, I don't have to have it just because of the food.

You don't have to write anything about the ambience. It's under the old town hall and of course you can see it down below. Uncomfortable and very well maintained rooms. We have stood there as neighbors with the carousel at the Lambertimarkt for years. And nothing has changed. A great restaurant with German cuisine for many years, which I can highly recommend.

The Ratskeller has always been a bank for good German cuisine in a rustic atmosphere, but this visit was a big disappointment. The councilman's pot as such was okay, but the fried potatoes were a disaster, apparently small potatoes were simply halved and fried too briefly without onions/bacon. The next table had already complained about raw fried potatoes, but nothing has been changed. Pike perch and "herb sauce" are practically tasteless. The surprise came with the bill, both dishes were around €5 more expensive than on the menu, we had probably been given an old menu. Only the nice service and the ambience deserve stars, which is a shame.

Das Essen war einfach nur spitze. Wir waren mit 10 Personen da und jeder hat sein Essen zeitgleich bekommen und wirklich jeder von uns war mehr als zufrieden. Das Essen war einfach nur köstlich. Ein großes Lob auch noch mal an die hervorragende Bedienung. Man hatte wirklich das Gefühl, dass alle mit Herz und guter Laune dabei waren. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

Great food in a rustic atmosphere. This is what a Ratskeller should be like. Rump steak 200g and 300g, zander fillet, mayor's plate, red fruit jelly, apple strudel, Aunt Alina and Aunt Mariechen - all delicious!! Service relaxed and competent!! We can only recommend the Ratskeller.

The Ratskeller is one of my favorite restaurants in Oldenburg. Finally a restaurant where there are interesting, vegan dishes every season that appeal to you and are also super tasty. The staff is friendly, but unfortunately sometimes a bit understaffed. I would be very happy about a few more seats outside, as it is difficult to get a seat outside with several people.

First of all: The overall impression was tip top, where else can you find good German cuisine?! The ambience is exactly what you would expect from a Ratskeller. The service was friendly, courteous and very quick. The broth from fattening oxen was very, very flat and had little aroma (the only real negative point), the filling was good. The wild boar bratwurst was really top, the sauce served with it was good, a mustard pot served with it would add a crown to the whole thing. The salad was great, simply delicious. The fried potatoes could have been cut a little smaller, but otherwise great too. All in all recommended! We'll be back.

Waren zu zweit am Samstag wieder mal im Ratskeller und unsere Erwartungen wurden nicht enttäuscht. In Oldenburg der beste Service, einfach aufmerksam und freundlich. Schnitzel super lecker und ausreichend. Auf die Extrawünsche meiner Partnerin wurde vollends eingegangen und das Lachsgericht personalisiert. Wir kommen wieder und wieder und wieder :))

Were there with 4 people. Everyone enjoyed a different dish. Matjes, pike perch, grilled plate, pasta dish. Everything fresh and very tasty. Prices reasonable. Each dish is also available in a smaller or normal size. Nice ambience.
