Ratskeller Oldenburg in Oldenburg (Oldb)

We've eaten there twice and it was very good each time. I need gluten-free food and was given good advice about what was possible. The implementation was great and it tasted very good. The staff is very friendly and you can only feel comfortable. I deducted one star from the ambience because I always find it to be quite poorly ventilated. We'd love to come back.

Hmm, how should one evaluate fairly? On the one hand, we had very nice, friendly and courteous service. The ambience was pretty much exactly what you would imagine a “Ratskeller” to be like. On the other hand, the food, as is often the case, can only be assessed subjectively: I've had much better crab soup, very thick and unfortunately only lukewarm. The grill plate was very good in terms of the quality of the meat, but there was a tasteless sauce and fried potatoes without bacon and onions, which made them dry. But unfortunately not hot, but rather lukewarm. So we get a total of three stars.

Have you ever drunk a liter of tap water for €10.50? Since the water in the restaurant tasted like medicinal water, I let it go back and drank 1 liter of tap water. This would have been possible with wine, but not here! So of course my food became very expensive! Be careful what you order!

Typical german restaurant with great selection of local beers

Beautiful, rustic restaurant in the heart of Oldenburg, next to the Lamberti Church. Nice welcome, friendly and attentive service. Very good regional cuisine, simply recommended!

We have just come from the Ratskeller. We ordered a kale dish and a plate of kale for the second person (which of course we would have paid a few euros for, of course) without anything and politely asked if this was possible, which was answered in the affirmative. When the bill comes we are charged for two full dishes. When we pointed out that we didn't order that, we were told that we would have to pay for it because they would have added a few more fried potatoes and a large portion of kale for both of them (but then it was for the second dish There was also no smoker or pee put out, just tons of kale put in a bowl, which I only now realize in retrospect). But we didn't order that and still had to pay for it. Especially pointing this out after the fact is cheating. You don't do that. Either you bring what was ordered or say that you won't fulfill special requests. If we had wanted two portions, we would have ordered two portions. You don't just count yourself in your own pocket and then present your guests with a fait accompli. Very bad. Never again Ratskeller. The waitress was very nice, the atmosphere was nice. But we won't go to scammers again. I advise against such places.

Home-style cooking consistent from start to finish

If I could, I would very much like to give it six stars: excellent, very well coordinated menu, including vegetarian and vegan cuisine. The hearty food is highly recommended, typical northern German dishes come into their own, I could hardly decide what to try first. Excellent service. I also find a delicious mushroom that takes longer than 2 minutes to be very pleasant and was well tempered. I will definitely come back and am attaching two pictures, one of the Labskaus and one of the Ochsencheeks. Many thanks to the team!

Very tasty food and, above all, great vegetarian alternatives, which you don't necessarily expect here. The Ratskeller has put some thought into it and presented a superbly balanced menu. The portions were a good size and were served attractively. In terms of price, you pay a little more, but this is simply justified by the great quality and taste.

Always a wonderful rounding off of our visit to the Sunday symphony concert in the Oldenburg State Theater!

We were there with a few people during the day. The restaurant was recommended to us. The atmosphere is quaint and well-kept. The service is friendly but relatively slow. Regarding the drinks, it should be noted that the water is not chilled, which was relatively strange. About the food: the sauces are absolutely delicious, but absolutely necessary for the loins. Unfortunately, I have rarely eaten such dry pork fillet. The side dishes, however, were consistently delicious. However, I expect a certain juiciness, especially at these prices.

In general, solid cuisine. Price-performance ratio may be right, but overall it is too expensive for me personally. If I put a little effort into it at home, I can do it much better. Cauliflower tasted watery, sauce was ok. Zander also good, gratin solid. Almost €30 for that plus drinks? Can be done to have a nice evening with friends, I don't have to have it just because of the food.

We had dinner there with friends. It was incredibly delicious. You can tell that the chef cooks with love. The service was really great and attentive. Even though the restaurant was completely full. You don't have to write anything about the ambience. It's under the old town hall and of course you can see it down below. Uncomfortable and very well maintained rooms. We have stood there as neighbors with the carousel at the Lambertimarkt for years. And nothing has changed. A great restaurant with German cuisine for many years, which I can highly recommend.

The Ratskeller has always been a bank for good German cuisine in a rustic atmosphere, but this visit was a big disappointment. The councilman's pot as such was okay, but the fried potatoes were a disaster, apparently small potatoes were simply halved and fried too briefly without onions/bacon. The next table had already complained about raw fried potatoes, but nothing has been changed. Pike perch and "herb sauce" are practically tasteless. The surprise came with the bill, both dishes were around €5 more expensive than on the menu, we had probably been given an old menu. Only the nice service and the ambience deserve stars, which is a shame.

Das Essen war einfach nur spitze. Wir waren mit 10 Personen da und jeder hat sein Essen zeitgleich bekommen und wirklich jeder von uns war mehr als zufrieden. Das Essen war einfach nur köstlich. Ein großes Lob auch noch mal an die hervorragende Bedienung. Man hatte wirklich das Gefühl, dass alle mit Herz und guter Laune dabei waren. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

Great food in a rustic atmosphere. This is what a Ratskeller should be like. Rump steak 200g and 300g, zander fillet, mayor's plate, red fruit jelly, apple strudel, Aunt Alina and Aunt Mariechen - all delicious!! Service relaxed and competent!! We can only recommend the Ratskeller.

The Ratskeller is one of my favorite restaurants in Oldenburg. Finally a restaurant where there are interesting, vegan dishes every season that appeal to you and are also super tasty. The staff is friendly, but unfortunately sometimes a bit understaffed. I would be very happy about a few more seats outside, as it is difficult to get a seat outside with several people.

A wonderful restaurant. The food is very tasty, the portion is large. The price is really justified. The atmosphere is great, the waiters are nice and friendly.

Totally nice, attentive service in a rustic atmosphere. I am particularly enthusiastic about the diverse and imaginative vegan offering, which changes seasonally. Big compliment!

First of all: The overall impression was tip top, where else can you find good German cuisine?! The ambience is exactly what you would expect from a Ratskeller. The service was friendly, courteous and very quick. The broth from fattening oxen was very, very flat and had little aroma (the only real negative point), the filling was good. The wild boar bratwurst was really top, the sauce served with it was good, a mustard pot served with it would add a crown to the whole thing. The salad was great, simply delicious. The fried potatoes could have been cut a little smaller, but otherwise great too. All in all recommended! We'll be back.

Yesterday we had dinner there and we were able to sit outside. The service staff were very nice, the food was also great.

Waren zu zweit am Samstag wieder mal im Ratskeller und unsere Erwartungen wurden nicht enttäuscht. In Oldenburg der beste Service, einfach aufmerksam und freundlich. Schnitzel super lecker und ausreichend. Auf die Extrawünsche meiner Partnerin wurde vollends eingegangen und das Lachsgericht personalisiert. Wir kommen wieder und wieder und wieder :))

Were there with 4 people. Everyone enjoyed a different dish. Matjes, pike perch, grilled plate, pasta dish. Everything fresh and very tasty. Prices reasonable. Each dish is also available in a smaller or normal size. Nice ambience.

Favorite restaurant… always happy

Sitting out there and eating something is very atmospheric, but when it comes to service, the gastronomic neighbors on the market square are unfortunately much better. Ordering something more every now and then is a test of patience, and one employee simply took the desire to pay with her after work while her colleague chatted for half an hour at the next table. Eye contact or something like that? No chance. Food was okay, but the salt shaker in the kitchen appeared to be empty. Unfortunately, it's more appearance than reality; the Ratskeller's supposedly good reputation seems undeserved.

Ein angenehmer Abend bei leckerem Essen. Die Terrasse war sehr gut besucht. Das Personal trotzdem souverän und freundlich. Wir bekamen alle gleichzeitig unser Essen. Es hat uns sehr gut geschmeckt.

We had reserved and were able to sit outside. It was a very pleasant atmosphere, the staff were consistently friendly and accommodating. The food was very tasty: chanterelles and a vegan dish. Dessert was also very appealing and delicious! Everyone can choose between a normal and a small portion, and there is also a vegan, vegetarian and children's menu. We are completely satisfied.

If you like good home cooking, this is the place for you. The quality of the dishes is great, the ingredients are fresh. The price is quite reasonable. The service is very friendly and accommodating.

Ate wild boar sausage, so far so good. Only half occupied, half forgotten. Just a sorry from the waiter. This is not a service for this price.

Lekker gegeten op het terras. Binnen in zag het er heel gezellig uit. Vriendelijke bediening. Chapeau voor de bediening die alsmaar de trappen op en af moesten on buiten op het terras te bedienen. Zeker de moeite om eens te gaan eten.

Great location in the middle of Oldenburg, small outdoor area, I can't rate the interior. Table reservation recommended. Super nice team and very accommodating in the case of constructive criticism.

Nice service, very good food ready quickly, and in a pleasantly winding room, resulting in a quiet, not loud atmosphere. And all of this at not cheap, but really moderate prices - I will go there more often in the future! Oh yes: meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu. So everything is really good!

A meeting with former classmates. It was a pleasant atmosphere and the food tasted delicious. There are seasonal and permanent dishes. For this reason and because of its central location, the Ratskeller is recommended.

Ich war jetzt zum wiederholten Male im Ratskeller. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der durchweg tolle Service: sehr freundlich, aufmerksam und zuvorkommend. Ich war mir bei der Bierauswahl unsicher und dr Kellner hab mir von sich aus einen Probierschluck vom Bier angeboten. Sowohl der Grünkohl im Winter, Spargel im Mai oder das kürzlich gewählte Jögerschnitzel waren grundsolide zubereitet, die großen Portionen völlig ausreichend, preislich in Ordnung. Ebenfalls war das Glas Aperol groß, gut gemischt und nicht mit Eiswürfeln überladen… findet man leider nicht zu oft in OL. Bis zum nächsten Mal!

A Ratskeller is a Ratskeller and therefore it has to look like a Ratskeller: rustic. The outside terrace is also rather rustic, but everything is good and clean. The kitchen offers "home-style", regional and seasonal dishes at upscale prices that are (still) appropriate for the quality (e.g. origin and taste of the meat). Just under 100 € for 2 people with 2 rather expensive plates and drinks, but a starter or dessert is already an announcement). The service is usually quick, friendly and flexible. If you're thinking about going out for a real meal, then go to the Ratskeller twice a year. What the German gastronomy should think about is a “distribution” on the house. Restaurants from other nations also retain customers in this way and a deposit on the house doesn't break anyone's neck financially.

Nach längerer Pause wieder einmal hier eingekehrt und nicht enttäuscht worden: sehr gute gehoben-bürgerliche Küche, kleine Karte, mit immer wechselnden saisonalen Highlights, gute Weinauswahl. Absolut nachahmenswert finde ich, daß es alle Gerichte, selbst die Desserts auch in etwas kleineren Portionen gibt, welche von Anfang an transparent in der Karte mit angegeben sind. Gerne bald wieder!

Quaint restaurant with outstanding service. It's been a long time since I've had such friendly service as this evening, and it's totally child-friendly. Allergens were not an issue. There is an extra allergen menu and gluten-free was also possible.

Very tasty food for a reasonable price/performance ratio. You can't say anything bad about the service. Small but nice menu. Unfortunately there is only one type of pork schnitzel, otherwise everything is good.

We arrived at 16h when it was empty and were given a bad table, so we asked to be seated somewhere else. The service was not very attentive although we were the only table and the food was rather tasteless. They had put cucumber juice into the Labskaus making it taste sour.

It wasn't our first time and definitely not our last visit. The cellar is quaint, but that's its ambience. The service is always friendly and courteous, something you don't find in every restaurant. And in the end we are always rewarded with a rich menu and high quality food. In keeping with the season, this time it was an asparagus menu and we left the Ratskeller after a lovely time - until next time.

We are happy and grateful that the Ratskeller exists in Oldenburg! I hardly know of anywhere else here where you can get traditional German and regional dishes that are so reliably fresh and delicious. It's also great that many of the dishes are available in small and normal portions! Yesterday we had, for example, the game broth, the North Sea plaice and the goose leg, all made really well from first-class products with the appropriate home-made side dishes. As always, the service was professional and very personable! Thank you, dear Ratskeller team!

Gutbürgerliche Küche für Alle. Viele leckere Gerichte und Varianten für alle Essgewohnheiten (omni/vegan/vegetarisch) und in großen und kleinen Portionen auf der Karte. Diese Vielfalt vermutet man bei einem Ratskeller nicht. Leicht gehobene Preise, die anlässlich der Qualitöt und Geschmack mehr als gerechtfertigt sind. Die Gastfreundschaft der Kellner*innen lässt auch keine Wünsche offen. Klare Empfehlung, wenn man gute Küche mag!

Stylish restaurant, even though I didn't make a reservation I got a seat. Unfortunately they forgot to give me a card and the same thing happened at the next table. The staff is very polite and tried hard. The captain's plate with various fish was good, but didn't meet my expectations considering the price (unfortunately the fried potatoes served with it weren't the real deal either). I would still eat there again. The asparagus cream soup was very good.

Despite the outdated atmosphere, I give it 5 stars because as a guest you are simply the “king”. I had the asparagus and, as a vegan, I was able to have vegan hollandaise and a vegetable schnitzel with it. The service is TOP and fulfills almost every wish. They were even able to offer me oat milk for my cappucino. Food was great too.

Always happy to visit Oldenburg. In contrast to the Google description, there is of course not "Holstein" food here (this is Oldenburg in Oldenburg, not the one in Holstein) but rather Oldenburg regional cuisine, often with seasonal dishes, and also delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes

Excellent restaurant, centrally located. The food was excellent across the board. We really liked the atmosphere. The staff was motivated and friendly. Conclusion: A culinary highlight.

As always, super cozy and delicious. The vegan dishes are always varied and changes to the actual dish are no problem. As (almost) always, the waiter was very friendly and attentive. :-) A successful evening! Especially after dessert.

The taste of the food was okay, but for five dishes with fried potatoes we only got 2 small bowls and 2 small bowls each with sauce, which is really an absolute disgrace. None of our group was full. When we were told that we would like to order more fried potatoes, unfortunately nothing came in vain. Given the lavish prices, you can definitely expect a lot more.

Three of us each ordered the pork schnitzel. After waiting for a while we got the schnitzel without sauce and with a bowl of fried potatoes. However, we had to share the bowl between three people. When we asked why the schnitzel was served without sauce, we were told that the sauce had to be ordered separately, even though it was on the menu with the schnitzel. Of course we still had to pay the full price. I myself had to pay €35 for sauceless schnitzel, 3 tablespoons of fried potatoes and a beer. Strangely, the invoice could not be printed out by the card reader. Thanks for nothing, kind regards, Tim

We had a great time in this restaurant with my colleagues. The service is super nice and the food is very, very good. White wine is also very good!

Super tasty kale, also as vegan kale. It's also good that there are smaller portions at a lower price and the sales made with tap water are donated. Only the table reservation via WhatsApp only worked after we asked. Addition: After we were here today with a larger group to eat cabbage, the positive impression was confirmed. Although there was a bit of chaos on our part when ordering, etc. everything was carried out in a very friendly manner and to our satisfaction. Taste was great again.

Very good food at quite high prices (hearty cuisine - hearty price), HOWEVER the portions are decent even for hungry guests (we had kale and pike perch). Very good. It's also good that smaller portions can be served upon request. Very prudent. The service is very friendly, attentive and quick. The toilets are clean and well maintained. All in all a recommendation!

The five stars are given when you understand that the espresso machine is only cleaned after you have asked all the guests if they would like another coffee... Otherwise the food was great again 👍

The winter menu offers delicious kale with everything that goes with it. A reason to come by at least once a year. Everything else on the menu sounds very good too, but as long as there is kale 🤷🏻‍♂️...
