Pizzeria Maaßener Gaipel Bergstadt Lautenthal in Langelsheim

An old, traditional building with character and many memories adorning its walls. The furniture is old but functional and clean. The staff member who was serving us was rather reserved. It was okay, but he lacked a bit of enthusiasm. He was probably the only employee that evening, having to do everything. It was very quiet that evening; there was only one other table occupied. The two pizzas we ordered were not to our liking. Both pizzas were rather bland, as if they hadn't been seasoned at all. No oregano, hardly any salt, nothing. In some cases, the cheese on the pizza wasn't properly melted but still cold, while at the same time the crust was very crispy and partially burnt. The Pizza Amore tuna with onions was also quite watery. The knives we were given to cut the pizzas were very dull, and you had to force the pizza through with them. Overall, it wasn't what we had hoped for, even though the location is truly unique. We probably won't come back again.

We were really looking forward to our first visit today, as the reviews were quite positive. The saying "Come as a guest, leave as a friend" also gave us hope for a pleasant experience. However, our first and definitely last visit to this "pizzeria" turned out to be completely different! We have a little daughter, not quite six years old, who loves pasta with butter and cheese. She doesn't like any kind of sauce. There's NOTHING specifically for children on the menu at this aging restaurant! Our request for a smaller portion for our daughter was declined. They also refused to put any butter on the pasta. We've never experienced anything like that before—in every restaurant, whether expensive or simple, it's never been a problem. Despite our inner urge to leave, we ordered our food and drinks. Our daughter wanted a hot chocolate and spaghetti, my wife opted for pizza salami and a tea, and I chose pizza tonno and a Spezi. When our food arrived, our initial reaction might not have been entirely wrong. Our pizzas not only looked like frozen goods, they tasted like it too – there was NOTHING special about them, no herbs, no onions, nothing at all, just either salami or tuna, that's it. Our daughter's pasta was bone dry with a hint of grated cheese. She ate some of it, but with a strange lack of motivation, which isn't normal for our child, who loves pasta and was really hungry. When my wife and I finally tried it, we were almost shocked: slightly sour, watery, and without any trace of flavor, but totally soft, as if overcooked. Could they have reheated old pasta? Perhaps it wasn't any good anymore; we're definitely not used to freshly cooked pasta being that sour. The service was listless and unfriendly, lacking any empathy. The dining room was terribly outdated, roughly from 1980 – and freezing cold! The overall noise level was immense, more like a cafeteria. However, the absolute highlight was the restroom area, which was probably completely renovated before the Federal President's visit. There was no paper towels for drying the ladies, but at least there was a roll of kitchen roll for the men... Given this hopelessly outdated standard, the sparse ambiance lacking any comfort, the lousy service, and the far below-average quality of the food, we find the price level absurd. A normal portion of dry spaghetti with no sauce, no butter, and just a few crumbs of grated cheese for 11 euros is a disgrace—especially since they were inedible. And we would have preferred not to eat the frozen-looking, dismal pizzas for 11 euros either. Here in Hamburg, and at many other locations, we know of pizzerias that are light years better, and are no more expensive, and sometimes significantly cheaper, than this place. If you are faced with the decision of whether to go here or to the Harzer Schnitzelkönig: PLEASE go to the Schnitzelkönig in your own interest!!!

After a hike, it's a great place to stop for refreshments, or you can sit outside with a wonderful view of the valley, weather permitting. The food was very good, and the prices were reasonable! We'd love to come back!

Unfortunately, only pan-fried gyros were served. This should have been noted on the menu. The lasagna was very tasty but quite small. Unfortunately, the fries were covered in oil several times. The staff was friendly, but we weren't asked if we wanted anything else. Drinks or dessert would have been nice. Great location, but I wouldn't go back. The price/performance ratio wasn't really good.

We stopped there for coffee and cake. We enjoyed it; it's a great place to stop after a short or long hike. You can also sit outside and enjoy a wonderful view.

We were there three days in a row, and it was perfect. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was intimate and typically Italian. The view was fantastic. We were so happy and felt so comfortable, like we were staying with friends. We definitely want to come back and are already looking forward to it.

I can't comment on the food, as we only had coffee. However, we heard from the next table that the pizza was delicious.

Pizzeria Maaßener Gaipel – Delicious pizza with a beautiful view in the heart of the Harz Mountains ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ On our way home, we happened upon Pizzeria Maaßener Gaipel by chance – and were pleasantly surprised. Google had initially misdirected us, but FYI: There's ample parking right next to the pizzeria, making getting there easy. The location is idyllic: The pizzeria is nestled in the middle of the forest and is accessible via an approximately 800-meter-long gravel path. Once at the top, a fantastic view and a relaxed atmosphere await you. We sat outside in pleasant 20°C (68°F) while our child played freely in the spacious outdoor area. There's also a small playground for children right on the premises, making the visit especially family-friendly. The food was consistently delicious: We had pizza and tortellini, both fresh, flavorful, and served quickly. We were particularly impressed by the pizza – crispy base, delicious ingredients, and truly filling. We also have a big compliment for the service: The waitress was super friendly, we had a very pleasant conversation, and even received a few personal tips for our next stay in the Harz Mountains. In conclusion: If you're traveling in the Harz Mountains and are looking for an authentic pizzeria with delicious food, a beautiful view, and a family-friendly atmosphere, you should definitely plan a stop at Pizzeria Maaßener Gaipel. Whether with children, as a stopover on the way home, or for a relaxing evening – it's absolutely recommended!

Very pleasant. We hiked here from Hahnenklee-Bockswiese. We had pizza and strawberry cake. Both were delicious. The ingredients are fresh, the strawberry cake isn't overly sweet, without gelatin, and whipped cream is optional. Really great. The service was friendly and uncomplicated.

It's unbelievable where the stamping stations are hidden. Unfortunately, we weren't there for the food, but just to stamp for the HWN. You can eat in Lautenthal at the HSK on Hauptstraße, at least that's what we do when we're nearby. Highly recommended.

Very nicely located, but we got there a little late, when the kitchen was already closed. So we "only" had pizza, drinks, and dessert. It was really nice and delicious, and the view is fantastic.

Highly recommended. We were tired from hiking and grateful to have found a place to rest and were so impressed that we stopped by again that evening for dinner. It was very friendly, well organized, and delicious, too.

I was there twice with my family two weeks ago during our Harz vacation. Delicious food, super child-friendly service, and a phenomenal view while eating. If you're nearby and craving a good pizza, you should definitely stop by. It's a great day-trip spot, and Massimo is a really nice and warm-hearted host. We'd love to come back.

I just grabbed some food. In retrospect, I would have loved to eat there. The location is beautiful. The staff was very friendly. The food was also excellent. Finding the restaurant isn't that easy. A little tip: turn off the navigation and rely on the signs. ;-)

We had a great family meal here. The route using Google maps is definately wrong! Follow the signs from the village and turn right on the main road! Follow the road Am Maaßener Gaipel. DONT follow Google maps! The view, food and service is on the ball and efficient. The building and ammenties are aged but clean. Enjoy

We came here for dinner on a beautiful day. The owner was very friendly. The food was very good and served quite quickly. We sat outside in the beer garden with a great view. Access by car is a bit tricky, but it's possible. We'd be happy to go again.

Hot chocolate is neither hot nor does it taste like chocolate!! My complaint that it tasted like warm water with not enough cocoa was answered loudly: I was shown a carton of milk and explained a little later that the WATER in the machine is not at a higher temperature... Otherwise the interior is from the 70s, but the location and view are fantastic!!!

This was the best pizza I've ever waited for over an hour without notice 😅 and the drinks were there after 50 minutes... It wasn't full. I have no idea what was going on. We had to explicitly ask for an invoice, otherwise we would only have received a handwritten note for our cash (“We have problems with card payments” - I suspect permanent ones). Conclusion: It's better to take your own food with you on the hike and save yourself the hassle.

I was there twice. The first time I wanted to buy a bottle of water to take with me. I was told that I would have to sit there for this. I was offered a small cup and it said 5 euros. The second time I wanted to use the toilet, 50 cents if I didn't eat it. I then bought an ice cream and still had to pay the toilet fee. In addition, the service was super unfriendly both times.

This pizzeria is located on a mountainside overlooking the Bergstadt Lautenthal. The atmosphere is fantastic and service is perfect. Spaghetti with crab and salmon tasted really good 🌞🤗.

We were absolutely satisfied with the food and the friendly service. The location at the top of the mountain is unique and absolutely fantastic. You can easily walk there from Lautenthal, we went there by car, which was a bit adventurous because Google Maps constantly wants to send you through closed forest paths and doesn't know the official route. If you want to get there by car, please be sure to follow the pizzeria's signs and do not rely on Google Maps. Coming from Lautenthal, turn right on Hahnenkleer Str at Maaßener Geipel, after about 50m you will see a closure sign, please ignore it and continue driving, this is the official route to the pizzeria.

Ate an incredibly nice pizza and the price was ok... A wonderful view over the beautiful town of Lauthental

Had a table straight away without a reservation, very quiet and easy to get to. The pizza was very tasty. The view of the valley is simply wonderful. For families there is also a small playground at the edge of the restaurant. All in all, highly recommended.

Something was wrong with the noodles. The dish was unsurpassed in terms of simplicity. I ordered spaghetti carbonara. There was an unpleasant smell coming from the food, which unfortunately I couldn't locate. Maybe it was just the plate that smelled. When I smelled the food directly, it smelled normal. The ham was gray around the edges and the sauce was thin and seemed to have been made from milk. It doesn't work at all. I can't recommend it!

After a somewhat strenuous hike from Lautenthal up to Maaßener Gaipel, we arrived at the nice restaurant. The decor in the restaurant itself seems very rustic. My son and I decided to eat outside, the view is really beautiful. We received a very friendly welcome relatively quickly and didn't have to wait long for our food. The Harzer Wandernadel stamp box is easy to reach and is well placed on the outside of the restaurant. When I asked whether there was an easier way back than the one we took on the way up, I was immediately told how long it would take. Great view of the valley, great service.
