Very tasty gluten-free pizza, pasta and tiramisu. The price/performance ratio is also right, very friendly staff, I have become a big fan of Pepe!

Worst pizza I've eaten in a long time. The dough is way too salty, too soft in the middle and like cardboard on the edges. The cult pizzaria has such a flow that they no longer have to put in any effort. I remembered it differently. Every baked pizza tastes better.

The pizza is decent but nothing special. What bothers me most is the service. Several times, I called ahead only to find my order lost when I arrived. On one occasion, they even lost my order after I placed it in person. While they acknowledged the mistake and apologised, it's still frustrating. For me, the experience of going there is a mixed bag.

I'm sorry. But it has nothing to do with an Italian pizza. The dough tasted and smelled yeasty. Certainly okay for every now and then, very cheap. Far from an original pizza.

Totally disappointed after the many good reviews. Greasy and has nothing in common with a real Italian pizza. The “Grande” pizza seems quite cheap, but it is really small.

Came across this pizzeria last night after visiting the Christmas market and were very impressed. The furnishings and atmosphere are very pleasant, small wooden bar tables, some with benches as seats. The pizzeria was well attended and the friendly team had everything well under control. You order/pay at the counter and pick up your food/drinks there. All dishes are freshly prepared and you can see, smell and taste it. My companion had a pizza devil, which was quite tasty. But it was topped by the taste explosion of the Bruschetta pizza I chose. Sooo delicious!!!! It's a bit far away from us, but this definitely wasn't the last visit to Pizza Pepé in Mainz! 😁

I ordered a simple pizza with chicken breast strips. Unfortunately, I discovered that the pizza that was placed on my attic table was not at all cooked through. Both the dough and the chicken were not cooked through at all. Also, my entire pizza was swimming in tomato paste. The highlight of the whole thing was the cube-sized pieces of tomato on the pizza. In my opinion, an absolute disgrace for 11 euros. I can absolutely advise against it.

Recommended for anyone who wants to eat really tasty pizzas! They were really good - I would even go so far as to say they were the best I've ever eaten! Not a classic restaurant, more of a snack bar with seating and standing options. The interior is not modern, but cozy. The kitchen staff and the lady who took the orders were all on their toes.

The ambience is good but the food is a disaster... Sorry but welcoming guests with buonasera doesn't make you a good Italian... We had two pizzas and pasta and everything was just bad... No taste... Too bad You used to be able to eat well there... Unfortunately it can no longer be recommended at all

Best pizza... cult pizzeria for over 30 years

We love Pizza Pepe! 🍕 I grew up here in Mainz and went to this restaurant every Wednesday with my Dad for my whole childhood and youth. It is my favourite pizza and pasta in town and I love the lively atmosphere! It is very busy while at the same time homey and welcoming. I love how the cashier shouts "Mancha" and pizza bakers and cooks reply by shouting back "Grazie!" when you give them a tipp. I always come back here whenever I am back in Mainz, the quality has constantly been fantastic over the 35 years I have been going here and all that for some really affordable prices! Try out the Pizza "Pepe Speciale" (see picture) and the Spagetti "Napoli"!

A small and cozy place with excellent and very fast service

Very disappointing. Because of the many good reviews, we had a nice meal. The service is good and friendly so far but the taste of the pizzas is bad. Cheap and really not good. Cleanliness is also rather bad. Cobwebs on the pictures etc. Coziness also looks different. The Poppey pizza was so garlicky that it gave you a stomach ache afterwards. It's better to spend a little more money and eat out in the surrounding pizzerias.

Delicious pizzas. To pick up or sit and eat for a moment. When the weather is nice, it's very busy and there's hardly any space to sit.

Remembering my student days... felt like time had stood still... ordering and picking it up at the counter... I was there at lunchtime. Earlier, in the evening: More hectic, more shouting, always loud. Even today?

The pizza tastes good, but it's nothing extraordinary. The pizzas are rather small, but cheap. There is no saving in particular when it comes to the topping. The ambience is rather rustic at the same time inviting and cozy. Due to the really good location, the Rhine is not far, so you can eat pizza by the water in about 5 minutes. The staff is friendly and the pizza is ready in just 10 minutes after ordering.

We like to come here with the family to eat. The quality and price are right here and have been for years. There isn't much space inside, but that doesn't bother you. If there is no space on site, you can take the food with you. The staff is always friendly and the waiting times are not too long.

One of the few locations in Mainz that has not yet fallen victim to increasingly poor quality and exorbitant prices. The pizza is comparatively tasty and the ingredients are fresh. As I said, you can argue about the price, I think it's (still) relatively fair for what's on offer - let's see how it develops. Be careful, the small pizzas are really small, you won't get full but it's enough for a snack. And the pasta is average, carbonara is still prepared here according to the German tradition with cream and ham. ;)

I've known this pizzeria for 40 years and the pizzas have been sensational ever since. Great floor, classy. Good price. Whenever I'm in Mainz, that's where I go.

We went there specifically because they have gluten free pizza and pasta dishes. My gluten-free Capricciosa pizza was made with homemade dough and it was delicious. Not very big, but OK for the price. A visit is definitely worth it.

Nice there but the pizzas were tastier

In the middle of the old town of Mainz, you will find one of the best pizzerias in Mainz, in my opinion. No waiter comes to the table to serve you; you order your food and drink directly at the counter and pay for it straight away. I had a pizza primavera. Super friendly staff. There is more than enough choice, if you can't find anything here then I don't know what is. There are even gluten-free pastas and pizzas available for a small additional charge. I always enjoy going there. From spring or when it gets warmer you can also sit outside.

We were back there for the first time after Corona and we were really looking forward to it. To put it in Loriot's words: "There used to be more tinsel." There was almost no trace of tomato sauce on the pizzas. The pizza dough tasted like unbaked yeast dough. The taste of the topping (Pepe Spezial & Vegetariana) was almost 0! It's a shame, but that was definitely a waste of money! The next time we visit the cinema or the old town, we leave Pizza Pepe on the left or right, depending on the direction we walk. Too bad! Too bad! Too bad! It's probably well known that Pepe's is always overcrowded (not understandable after our last visit and our rating)...that's why only 1☆ for the ambience!

First of all, I think it's very good that Pizza Pepé Express offers gluten-free dishes such as pizza, pasta..., but I find it a bit questionable if they offer something like that and take it lightly and switch it up because it was pointed out twice when ordering “Gluten-free”. Many people may not be aware that celiac disease is not just a lifestyle like being vegan etc. If the mistake hadn't happened, I think Pizza Pepé wouldn't be bad, as the wrong pizza tasted very good, but it's a shame that with such an "extreme" mistake, not even an appropriate voucher was offered. To be honest, I was offered a new gluten-free pizza But preparing two pizzas in a row is too much for me to be honest and at that moment I was a bit taken aback.

I ate a Funghi pizza with Gorgonzola cheese sauce. It was very tasty. A good experience. A double espresso for dessert. 😉

Best pizza in Mainz!! We love eating there!

I don't know if that was a mistake, but the dough on my pizza was mostly raw. Unfortunately I only noticed it on the way otherwise I would have returned the food.

Pizza Pepé Express in Mainz is no longer what it once was. Last Saturday May 11, 204 we ordered 2 pizzas to take away, well. Anyone who likes "pizza dough" á la frozen products from the supermarket is now in good hands there, of course at corresponding prices, which are no longer justified in any way -> for this quality.

Great food, cheap and nice staff

The best pizza in the city center is at Pepé! We regularly order pizza here to pick up and have to take the longer walk compared to other pizzerias. The staff is always friendly and the quality of the pizza is great. The preparation time is between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the volume. You can also sit on site - in summer there are additional tables outside. However, space is a bit tight and depending on the time of day you have to be lucky to get a table.

We really enjoy coming here and really appreciate the good value for money. The service is very nice and the on-site snack bar is cozy. Pizza Pepé is simply an institution in Mainz and an indispensable part of the old town!

I've known Pizza Pepe for years and am always satisfied there. The pizza, pasta dishes and salads are very tasty. I don't think it's a bad thing that you can order at the counter yourself and pay straight away given the good price-performance ratio there. There is some seating inside and in summer there is also outside seating. The staff was always friendly too. Since I'm from Koblenz but already know the pizzeria from before, I always like to come here when I'm in Mainz😊👍

Pizza Pepe feels like it has “always been” on Augustinerstrasse in Mainz. That alone is an indication of the good quality - when there are always closures and new restaurants (which don't last long) all around. The simple, minimalist, rustic ambience goes very well with the pizza(s): no frills, but good and cheap.

Unfortunately there's nothing express here... 30 minutes for a mediocre pizza.

The food was really delicious and the value for money was right. Even the food was brought to our table. The ambience also fits, as you shouldn't consider it a restaurant, but rather an express service.

Pepé Express is characterized by good, solid food. Even though I personally am always overwhelmed by the large selection of pizza and pasta variations and pizzas with pineapple or spaghetti on top simply have no place on a menu, they are simply delicious and, above all, very inexpensive. The mini pizzas are a real eye-catcher for when you're hungry 😊 The ambience is old-fashioned with a lot of wood paneling and has more of a snack bar feel. But it all fits together since there is no table service here. Unhesitant recommendation for quick hunger that doesn't cost much!

A pizzeria respecting it's customers by not crazily increasing their prices. The prices are more than fair, and I always recommend this place to people visiting Mainz. It might not be the most authentic, the pizzas are good but that's obviously not Napoli in quality, standard Germany Pizza, but at least with those prices, the ratio quality price becomes the best in town ! I live just over a Pizzeria but I rather walk 30min to Pizza Pepe.

Have been there for a long time, pizza is good but the toppings are less. There was very little on my spaghetti pizza compared to before, there wasn't much seating, and the round tables were missing a stool. This way the other person could also enjoy their pizza and not have to do it standing up.

Hatte Rigatoni Mama mia, war seit langem das erstemal wieder da. Das war immer mein favorisiertes Essen. Leider wird es das nicht bleiben, die Tomatensoße war geschmacklos und dünn wie Wasser, lediglich den Knoblauch konnte ich herausschmecken. Hab es dem Mitarbeiter hinter der Theke gesagt der meine moderate Reklamation regungslos entgegen nahm. Werde wohl nicht mehr hingehen...Schade

Ich verstehe diesen Hype absolut nicht. In jeder Bewertung steht etwas von "günstig". Wäre mir neu, dass die Geschmacksnerven am Geldbeutel hängen und nicht auf der Zunge. Zum Glück habe ich nur ein Stück probiert: Fettig, Schwimmender Belag, niemals würde ich da bestellen. Das Ambiente? Welches Ambiente bei einem Take-Away? Da gibt es andere Take-Aways mit ähnlichen Preisen, die deutlich bessere Qualität liefern... Scheinbar gut in den Abendstunden besucht, wenn die Kundschaft nicht mehr wirklich nüchtern genug ist, um zu beurteilen, was für einen Fraß sie da vor sich hat.

Encountered this lovely pizza and pasta place while walking around the old town of Mainz on a chilly day in January. This is a small and warm self serviced place for a quick bite with tables and stands you can sit down or stand to eat. They have a big variety of pizzas and pastas. The pizzas may not be the most authentic as they have Pizza Hawaii with pineapple topping but are great as they are over fresh. What I also like is the pizzas come with 2 sizes, i.e. mini and grande. The mini one is smallish which is good if you are not hungry or you can order more than 1 if you want to sample different toppings or for sharing. After all, the price is very reasonable as well.

Wir waren heute in Mainz unterwegs und sind zufällig auf die Pizzaria gestoßen. Es war sehr gut besucht und wir haben einen der wenigen Plätze bekommen. Die Besitzer sind sehr freundlich und höflich. Die Pizza war sehr lecker und man musste nicht sehr lange warten. Die Preise sind natürlich unschlagbar.

Die Älteste(?) Pizzeria in Mainz, Eine echt nette Idee. Bestellt und Abgeholt wird an der Theke. Nett. Die Pizzen waren lecker. Und für den kleinen Snack gibt’s von jeder Pizza auch die Mini Version. Geschmacklich gut und definitiv die bessere Variante zu PizzaHut und co. Gerne wieder!
