Opening hours on Google don't seem to be correct and none can be found on the homepage. Stood in front of a dark, locked shop at 7 p.m. on a Wednesday.

Really... 2 identical dishes one with half as much meat. I don't see anything hip there. Sorry

We arrived on Saturday without a reservation and they gave us a table for a specific time. Thanks for that. The food was good, the daughter's steak was great. You just can't pay attention to the money.

The world's best steak restaurant with a great atmosphere and very pleasant service. My reference restaurant when it comes to steak, has been visiting the place for 20 years.

It’s a typical German bar style environment but the meat is good.

Because it was busy and despite our reservation, we had a time slot. We already got our salad for the starter, we weren't allowed dessert but got the bill. Schnitzel was dry and the fries tough. Definitely not recommended for a meal, a real foodie.

This was my second time here and the food is fantastic. The steaks are not cheap, no question, but you get good meat cooked to perfection. I would recommend steaks to you without hesitation. What doesn't appeal to me personally is the ambience, but that's purely a matter of taste. The staff is polite and courteous across the board. Therefore definitely worth 5 stars.

Made an online reservation, and saw a time when you have 1.15 hours to eat... Didn't pay attention to it, so when ordering the food we were asked how much time there was for the food. So you can have a drink, appetizer and main course within 1.15 hours! No more time for dessert. We also expected more from the quality and quantity of the food. Unfortunately, we won't be here next time.

A rustic, long-established classic with very good cuisine. A reservation is recommended, but the friendly staff quickly found a solution.

We ate here today because we are at the Essen Motor Show. We have on November 28th. I requested a reservation online for December 6th, but unfortunately received no response by email. Then today I asked again whether the reservation had gone through or not. The lady couldn't tell me whether it had been cancelled, I hadn't received an email. Neither in SPAM nor in the normal mailbox. We still got a table. The rump steak was very good, but the Schitzel Viennese style was very bad. You can tell that it is a ready-made schnitzel that has been fried. The waiter was very nice, but the lady at the entrance was very, very unfriendly. We weren't even demanding. If they didn't have a table anymore, that would be fine with us too. However, you can still be friendly.

We’ve joined the restaurant for lunch on a Saturday, during the Christmas market season. There were enough places, but it got crowded quickly. We had chicken breast, fillet parisienne and burgers. All food was fresh, well cooked and freah seasoning was used. The service was a bit slow, though it probably was because of the season. The decorations in line with the red colours inside made it a very cosy atmosphere.

The food was good, a little more expensive, so there is a point deducted for value for money. The lady who served us was very nice and attentive. We were there with 6 women and also found something nice for our vegetarian, even though the Pfefferkorn is actually a steakhouse. Burgers and steaks were good. Personally, I found the furnishings a bit old-fashioned, but OK.

It seems that the website used to have something to the effect of, ``Our customer service is sometimes out of touch.'' In other words, friendly customer service is what sells, and when you get to know them, you get a hug or a pat on the head. However, it may not be for everyone, so some people may feel a little lonely. There's a woman who looks like Meryl Streep, she's wonderful. Of course the food is also delicious.

Excellent food, many choices. We had the filet medallions and for dessert the creme brûlée and crepe. Great wine too, but would have liked to see some American (north and south) red wine offerings, since a large part of the meats are from the Americas.

I'm completely satisfied! Delicious cheeseburger with sweet potato fries, catchup and extra mayo, and 2/2 Brinkhoff's. You forget about the election campaign and climate escapades. Life is a hit!

We were there on a Thursday evening and everything was good. The steak was tasty even if it was already cut. I've never experienced anything like this before 😅 It could have been a little more medium. Otherwise the service was very courteous and friendly. All in all, the meat was too expensive in my opinion.

I can't fully understand the positive reviews. The service staff was a bit unmotivated and I would describe friendliness differently. My burger itself was very tasty and cooked to perfection, but it wasn't edible as a burger, so no photo of the battlefield. My companion's salad wasn't dressed and we only got vinegar and oil when we asked. Some leaves in the salad were no longer edible and were beyond dark. The price of the salad was also higher than the burger… Then I understood why the restaurant was so poorly attended. Unfortunately not recommended, something needs to be done here.

We easily got a table with 5 people on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. and had a great evening. The meat was excellent across the board, and we ordered quite a variety: fillet, rib-eye, hanging flank, butcher's cut, mixed steak plate. Everything was wonderful, both in terms of quality and workmanship. We were all so excited about the food that we couldn't even take the classic Insta Foodpron photos. So you have to believe my written review 😉 The prices are okay for the steak category, the other offerings in the menu (burgers, fish, daily specials) looked normal in terms of market prices. When we looked at the tables next to us, the presentation of the dishes also looked very appealing. I would particularly like to highlight the great service. We were given great and courteous advice when choosing the steak cuts, without it feeling like a science. The inquiries and our general care went well beyond the “is everything OK with you?…” that is too common elsewhere. All in all, a successful evening that we would like to repeat in the near future.

Very cozy restaurant in the heart of Essen city center. The steaks were perfectly cooked, the drinks were delicious and the prices were medium-high. All in all, a highly recommended restaurant. We've been there several times, it's a bit more expensive, but so far everything has always tasted great and we've never had anything to complain about. The service was great and the food was great so I really recommend it. We were there with children and very child-friendly and accommodating from start to finish. Until next time 👍 Definitely 5*

Wir waren zu Weihnachten dort Essen. Das Steak war richtig gut und auch der Rest meiner Familie fand das Essen sehr lecker. Der Service war top, jeder Einzelne war nett und freundlich.

War heute zum Essen im Pfefferkorn eingeladen. Kurz und knapp: alles gut, aber eben auch nicht sehr gut. Ich weiß immer noch nicht warum der Effekt „Genau da geh‘ ich wieder hin“ hin da ist. Wahrscheinlich weil es ausschaut wie ein umgebautes China-Restaurant? Das Essen war ebenfalls gut. Also: Empfehlung - aber eben auch keine „geh-da-hin-Empfehlung“

Was echt waardeloos. Gereserveerd, dacht dus gezellig te kunnen eten. Werd ons te verstaan gegeven dat we een uur de tijd hadden omdat daarna de volgende zitting begon. Restaurant wed helemaal leeg geveegd voor het begin van de volgende ronde. Zoals altijd in Duitsland, service waardeloos.

Das Essen war gut. Leider sind die Preise sehr hoch. Das Personal ist freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Zur Überbrückung von Wartezeit und wegen Hungers nach Jahrzehnten das Pfefferkorn besucht. Trotz vollem Hause sehr nett empfangen worden und mit drei Leuten einen Tisch in einer ruhigen Ecke bekommen! Der Service ("älterer" Mann 😉) war super und sehr aufmerksam. Getränke vorab bestellt und zügig am Tisch. Essen dauerte etwas länger, war aber für die Anzahl der Gäste absolut in Ordnung: ca. 20 Minuten. Das Essen war sehr gut u.a. Filet-Spitzen mit gegrilltem Gemüse und Madeira-Jus, Salat und Schnitzel. Alles restlos aufgegessen! Einziger Kritikpunkt meinerseits: Die dunkle, gediegene Inneneinrichtung ist nicht mein Fall - trotzdem gerne wieder!

Gehobene Preise aber auf jeden Fall gerechtfertigt. Essen, der freundliche Service und die Lokalität sehr zu empfehlen. Immer wieder gerne.

Besonders finde ich die rote große Sofabar, sehr angenehm, wenn man vom Alltagstrubel in Ruhe ein sehr leckeres Gericht essen möchte.

Wieder mal ein hervorragendes Erlebnis. Der Service ist sehr zuvorkommend, ganz einfach toll. Und über die Qualität und den Geschmack muss man nicht mehr viel sagen. Einfach perfekt. Gerne genießt man dort sein Steak.

Service war sehr gut und freundlich. Ambiente, gemütliches Lokal. Zum Essen: Cheeseburger mit Pommes für 21,10€. Qualität des Patty 's war nicht so gut. Fleisch war zwar medium aber sehr fest und trocken. Ein gekaufter Patty, bestimmt nicht hausgemacht. Wenn hausgemacht dann nicht so gut. Pommes waren geschmacklich Durchschnitt, nicht knusprig, eher weich. Alles in allem für diesen Preis, keine Empfehlung von mir. Da gibt es wirklich bessere Burger.

Corn soup was great, but burger wasn't good enough. Maybe steaks are better, but if you don't want to eat steak, there are better places.
