Beautiful terrace, top service, delicious schnitzels and beers

We took a day trip from Bad Pyrmont to Hameln and stopped at this restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is rustic and beautifully decorated, as befits an old inn. The menu is small and straightforward, with something for everyone, and the service is excellent. If I ever find myself in Hameln again, I'll definitely stop there again. I definitely recommend it.

We only drank specialty beers and delicious Aporol in the outdoor dining area. The seating here in the pedestrian passage is very comfortable and offers a view of the half-timbered houses.

The food was relatively good, though a bit limited. I had Leberkäse (meatloaf) with egg. Unfortunately, the keg was being refilled, and it was still very warm. Ice was added later. A suggestion to try a different beer would have been better.

We were disappointed with the food today. The food was on the table within 5 minutes, meaning everything had been kept warm for a while before being served. As a result, the schnitzel was buttery soft and slightly overseasoned...a rushed service. A shame.

The three of us visited the Rattenkrug for dinner. I opted for the baked potato with chicken and salad. The salad was a bit sad and lackluster. I wish it were a bit more modern. The chicken was well-cooked and not at all dry. I'd happily swap the sour cream for homemade creamy quark. In terms of taste, I'd say it's convenience food. The service was excellent, except for the blonde lady (apparently she had something to say) who snarled at her staff in front of us. If you like home-style cooking, this is the place for you. It's also a great place for larger groups.

It's our favorite restaurant when we vacation in Hameln. The knuckle of pork is delicious as always, and the desserts are delicious too. Tomorrow we'll go back for some ribs. I'll leave another review.

We got a table outside right at lunchtime. Very friendly service and delicious, plentiful food. The roast pork consisted of two thick slices, very tasty and seasoned. The hunter's schnitzel was also very good! It certainly won't be our last time there!

An exceptionally recommendable restaurant, especially with very fast, friendly, competent, and helpful service, which is anything but standard, especially in the outdoor area. The food was also excellent, typically Bavarian, and exactly as it should be.

Unfortunately, the 'Paula' salad I ordered wasn't a standout experience. I could have easily managed the combination of lettuce leaves, coleslaw, cucumber, and a slice of tomato myself. A little more flair and a slice of bread would have been appreciated.

The salad was a disaster: one slice of tomato and three slices of cucumber, and the dressing came from a bottle! But the service was great!

Nice venue in an old classic tavern.

Ambiance is nice, fitting for the city. Service asked three times about the order, unfortunately drinks only came after the food was on the table. Leberkäse fried black and still served. Potato salad from the bucket, typical sour taste and consistency. Food was taken back and re-served. The same potato salad, the same fried egg, the meatloaf not quite as dark but bathed in oil. It's a shame that you pay money for something like that.

We were there for dinner last night, no problem for 2 people without a reservation. Despite the supposedly long waiting time, fast and good service. Very nice and attentive staff. Highly recommended and would love to come back.

What a lovely place to spend a few hours. We had a few drinks and a meal here on Good Friday. The food was very tasty and good value for money considering the surroundings and great atmosphere. The service was outstanding, we chose to sit at the bar and have a few drinks before ordering our food. As a result of this we got chatting with a lovely lady who spoke really good English. Not a lot more to say really other than we would highly recommend a visit.

Had dinner here. We actually expected more typical Bavarian food. The wild currywurst actually had little in common with a currywurst. I couldn't define whether it was game based on the taste, but the curry sauce was pure BBQ sauce and didn't fit the definition of a currywurst. We were a little disappointed.

A great restaurant. We've been here three times now and are trying out the menu. Everything was super tasty. The service was always extremely friendly. You feel very comfortable here. We can highly recommend the rat jug.

Four of us and a 2 year old girl had dinner there. The food is a bit expensive, but always very good. We had knuckle, cordon bleu and duck as well as a delicious vegetarian curry. The staff is child-friendly and very nice. The atmosphere is made of Biel wood and is very cozy. The beers are delicious.

We stopped by there spontaneously and managed to get a table despite the fact that it was already very full and everything was reserved. We were probably expecting something more rustic, purely in terms of the decor, since this is the oldest restaurant in Hamelin, but it wasn't like that. Everything was quite bright and relatively modern. The furnishings are also a matter of taste. The wait staff was all really nice and even though it was so full, we didn't wait 25 minutes for our food, which was fairly priced and totally sufficient in terms of the portion size. Plus it was super tasty! So we'd love to come back!

We ate here for the 1st of Advent. Half duck with red cabbage and potato dumplings. We enjoyed it very much.

In a nutshell: stop by, feel good, eat well, relax and leave the rat jug feeling refreshed and with a big grin. And if I come to Hameln again, a visit to the Rattenkrug is a must. Ps. Special requests will also be fulfilled whenever possible. 😋

In this restaurant there is a failure in the preparation of a proper roast pork. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend ordering the roast pork. 1. The red cabbage obviously came from a can or a jar. Maybe you can do it... But that was the least of the problems. 2. The dumplings are ready-made (Pfanni) dumplings. Do I sometimes eat at home when I need something quick, but in a restaurant for €17.50? 3. the meat was not tender, came without a crust, tasted warmed up, bland, maybe even a little old, and overall was not edible. 4. The dark beer sauce…. Unfortunately it's also bland and the furry glutamate taste is still on your tongue 2 hours later. For anyone who has ever been to Bavaria and knows the inn culture there, it's actually just disgusting. It's so simple: Prepare a good coleslaw, given the size of the shop, you can easily prepare one or two roast pork freshly... and in the worst case scenario, the roast pork will be “out” at some point. Bread dumplings and potato dumplings can be prepared, they just need to be steeped briefly in the water. The whole thing costs around 15 euros in Munich. Only positive thing: When it comes to roast pork, the quality can only go up. But please no longer be such an outgrowth of system catering. The service was nice.

We can recommend the Paulaner in the rat jug. The food is excellent, the service is friendly and quick. The ambience meets the expectations of a Bavarian restaurant, and the adaptation to historic Hameln is also well done. The furnishings can be described as rustic.

We had knuckle stuffed with sauerkraut and dumplings and cordon bleu stuffed with mountain cheese and bacon, with fries and salad. The knuckle was very crispy, the meat was juicy and tasty. The sauce was good, as was the sauerkraut. The dumplings could have been a little spicier. The cordon bleu was excellent, as were the side dishes. Overall, the portions were very generous. The employees were extremely friendly, courteous and prompt. The atmosphere seems very rustic and cozy. We'll be back.

Very nice restaurant. Very good service. One of the best knuckles I've ever eaten! Quite large, but not very greasy, the crust is just perfect, super crispy, the meat is very tender and juicy!

Haben hier zwischendurch nur Getränke verkonsumiert. Die angebotenen Speisen welche wir an den Tischen sehen konnten waren üppig und typisch bayrisch. Das Personal war sehr flink und umsichtig, auch wenn wir nur Getränke bestellt haben.

Beautiful location in the heart of the old town of Hamelin. A table was reserved a week in advance for 7 people. Three dogs registered, no problem. 3 hours before we arrived we were called where we would like to eat, inside or outside. It's very, very rare for me to see someone make such an effort. We decided to go outside because the weather was great. The table was reserved and beautifully set. Drinks were picked up and brought quickly. It was the same with the food. The menu is very Bavarian; But that's why we booked a table in this traditional restaurant. After a short wait, the 7 different dishes arrived. Each of us ordered a different dish. Every guest enjoyed it very much. This is also how Bavarian cuisine works in Lower Saxony. The service staff are also very good and love to joke. For all of us it was a very successful visit to the restaurant. The next time we're in Hameln, we'll be happy to visit you again. Stay the way you stay. An all-round successful evening. Great location, nice service and everyone really enjoyed the food. Will definitely be back on your next visit to Hameln! After we unfortunately broke a glass on a plate that had just been delivered, both the drink and the dish were delivered again... very accommodating, even though it was clearly our "fault".

Great food! We ate knuckle and Jägerschnitzel and can totally recommend both. We were particularly impressed by the extremely nice and courteous staff. We'll definitely be back.☺️ If you want a table after 6 p.m. you should just make a reservation otherwise it will be difficult to get something.

Waren mit unserem Kegelverein dort zum Abendessen, also wir werden dort immer wieder Einkehren sollten wir in Hameln sein. Absolut herausragendes Personel: SUPER Freundlich, unglaublich Aufmerksam und immer ein Lächeln auf den Lippen.Da können sich einige ein paar Scheiben abschneiden, so soll Service sein. Kinderfreundlich, Tierlieb usw. Essen hat uns sehr sehr gut Geschmeckt, sowie auch alle Getränke. Könnte Negative Bewertungen nicht nachvollziehen. Bleibt bitte so. Top Top Top

Leider war der Besuch ziemlich enttäuschend. Ich Frage mich, ob in diesem "Restaurant" überhaupt irgendetwas selbst gemacht wird. Auch geschmacklich war es kein Genuss. Für so ein Tiefkühlessen muss man wirklich nicht ins Restaurant gehen.

The Paulaner im Rattenkrug is one of Hameln's oldest restaurants and impresses with its excellent location and excellent service. The charming ambience transports its guests into a traditional German atmosphere. Although the prices are moderate, the food fell short of expectations in terms of taste and portion size.

The worst roast pork I have ever eaten. Tasteless and anything but fresh. The ready-made dumplings were also completely tasteless. The so-called game (currywurst) with fries (which was definitely not) is also better at every motorway service station. Never again!

Sitting outside and having a drink was excellent. The pedestrian zone is easy to observe. Guests and service were good.

Super delicious food. Building old and quaint. Staff consistently great, it couldn't be better. We felt super comfortable. Should we go again? Hameln always enjoy coming back.

If possible we would have liked to give it six stars. This evening we had a very tasty three-course meal here. The service was super warm, funny and attentive. Special requests due to intolerances were taken into account without any problems. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. At the end there was a rat killer. Absolutely recommended!

July 18, 2024 Time for a refreshing “summer drink” at above-average temperatures. Paulaner is the right place for you. Today there was a cool, non-alcoholic cask soda with the illustrious name “Himmelspforte”. Highly recommended, as is the food!

Food was okay! When it comes to operations, you have to make a clear distinction: One lady didn't really understand our language - the other two ladies could accept our wishes without any problems!!

We were there for the first time today and only had one drink because of the temperatures. Potsdam “with heaven’s gate” . Really tasty and refreshing. When you browsed through the menu, you naturally noticed the delicious dishes that you will definitely try. Very pleasant atmosphere and nice service. We'll be back.

Food (ribs with potato wedges and coleslaw) was very tasty. Dessert (Kaiserschmarrn) was also great. Very friendly service. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately we didn't particularly like the food. The knuckle was tasty, but the sauerkraut was strangely creamy. Likewise the red cabbage on the roast pork. It's a shame, we were really looking forward to the visit. The service was absolutely fantastic.
