This is our new favorite restaurant in Koblenz. A very extensive menu. Incredibly fresh and delicious ingredients. Beautifully presented dishes. The food was so good, so delicious!! But above all, it was a very cozy restaurant where we felt completely at ease. The service is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Stable, easy to make, tastes delicious. Definitely a special feature worth mentioning for Koblenz. Beyond that, nothing extraordinary.

Asian crossover cuisine. MSG-heavy, but I like it and I'm not allergic to it. Bass-heavy sound. Menus are covered with new price tags, which often "disappear." This can lead to unnecessary arguments when it comes to the bill. Hard benches to sit on. Servers have limited German skills. Restrooms could easily pass for a darkroom.

I've visited this restaurant several times. The food is always delicious and the portions are generous. However, the service suffers significantly. Out of four visits, only one was without problems. A major problem is that dishes are sometimes forgotten, even when they've been taken and repeated. The first order is taken and served quickly, but when we later ordered dessert, we had to wait 20 minutes for two scoops of ice cream, even though there were very few customers in the restaurant. We almost felt like leaving. Overall, the impression remains positive, but a major request and recommendation would be to improve the service.

Papaya salad €18.90 ... tastes good, but the portion is definitely too small for the price, and the shrimp are cut in half. It's a main course that won't fill you up. There are a lot of service staff. When we were there, it was hardly busy, but they still didn't notice new customers until quite late, and even then, you still wait quite a while for someone to come.

I had a very disappointing experience at Papa Umi in Koblenz. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the service and hygiene standards were far below expectations. • I asked for an English menu and was told the prices in it were incorrect — only the German menu had the actual prices. That alone felt unprofessional. • I asked to charge my phone and handed it to the waiter. As he walked away, he said “5 euros for charging,” and it wasn’t clear if he was joking or serious. We retrieved the phone just a few minutes later because it made us uncomfortable. • The restroom was dirty: standing water in the sink, a broken towel dispenser, and no hook in the stall to hang a bag or coat. • We ordered a large soup and clearly said we wanted to share it. They agreed, but when it came, it was in a single bowl. We politely asked for it to be divided, but the waitress refused, saying, “Do it yourself.” • The soup was bland, lacked salt and spices, and was overloaded with noodles but only had 6 small pieces of chicken. • We asked for the sticky table to be cleaned, and were told it’s sticky because of disinfectant used during COVID, and cleaning it wouldn’t help. Seriously? • Later, we ordered drinks and two sushi rolls: the California and the UMI Big Roll. The California roll came, but the UMI Big Roll never did. When we asked, the waitress insisted we didn’t order it — even though she had repeated the full order out loud earlier. She checked their system, and it wasn’t there. We didn’t want to reorder because it was already too late. This experience was chaotic, unprofessional, and just unpleasant. Poor hygiene, poor service, bad food. I don’t recommend this place and won’t be coming back.

This is one of the worst restaurants I've ever visited. We were given the English menu, but were immediately told the prices were "wrong." Very strange. Afterward, the waiter took my phone to charge it and, passing by, said it would cost 5 euros—whether he was joking or serious, it just seemed unprofessional. The restroom was a disaster: dirty, with puddles, broken dispensers, and no basic amenities. Apparently, they barely clean it. We ordered a large soup to share. The waitress refused to share it and told us to make it ourselves. The soup was tasteless: watery, without seasoning, with far too many noodles, and hardly any meat. The table was sticky, but when we asked for it to be cleaned, they just said it was "from the disinfectant after COVID" and there was nothing they could do. A ridiculous excuse. The sushi rolls were a mess: we ordered two, but only one came. Afterwards, they tried to convince us that the second one had never been ordered. Total chaos and no accountability. You get the impression that the staff couldn't care less about their guests. Bad food, even worse service, and practically nonexistent hygiene. Absolutely not recommended.

The food was delicious, and the service staff was competent and friendly. I think it could be made a bit more cozy, and the noise level could be lowered a bit.

I'm writing this review again because my first one was deleted. Unfortunately, this shows me that this restaurant apparently can't handle critical feedback. Instead of engaging with guests on equal terms and responding constructively to criticism, comments are labeled "inappropriate" and removed. My experience remains unchanged: The food is superb, but the service is disastrously organized, the staff is obviously poorly trained, and the front of house is responsible for long waits, forgotten orders, and the constant follow-up that guests have to do themselves. Instead of openly addressing the problems, the restaurant responds to legitimate criticism with deletions and ignorance. I'm extremely frustrated, so I'm deducting another star. Until the organization, training, and customer communication improve significantly, I can't recommend a visit.

I always enjoy the sushi. Everything is beautifully presented and is always a small work of art. The service is very friendly and attentive, and the wait time is absolutely reasonable. This time I was there alone on a Tuesday evening and only had to wait 15 minutes for the food to arrive. I enjoy coming here alone and always feel at home. Thank you for the delicious food.

Welcoming atmosphere. Food and service was excellent. We had the kids menu one, which was crispy chicken and wedges. Also the Pho Kokoscreme with chicken and the Bun (Hanoi Style) with beef. Highly recommend.

A great shop before COVID! Now this place is showing its age (the dried flowers at the reception desperately need replacing, menus need reprinting, etc.). What really hurts me, though, is the price-performance ratio 👎 The service was very friendly and gently explained to us that not everything on the menu is available. Apparently, they had plenty of experience with this. What a shame!

We've been there several times. The ambiance is very nice. The visible kitchen is a highlight, in my opinion. As for the service, we've always been very good. The food is and remains simply the best. I wouldn't eat sashimi at any other restaurant. The appetizers and sushi are also highly recommended. We'd be happy to go back.

The sushi was delicious, but didn't blow me away. The interior is truly impressive. The staff is friendly too! So, you can go and give it a try.

Relatively expensive but very, very tasty. Papa Umi wasn't cheap even before the coronavirus pandemic, but now it's really expensive. We, two adults and a seven-year-old, had the sushi pictured in the photo, two coconut soups, and one chicken skewer as an appetizer, along with two lattes and two Lassie cocktails. It ended up being €98 without tip. Despite the prices, I really enjoy eating there. I love the summer rolls and the tempura. The drinks are also excellent. The kitchen is open-plan, so you can watch the food being prepared if you want. It's very crowded, especially in the evenings, and also quite noisy. Most of the seating is at long tables with benches, which you usually have to share with strangers. It's best to have a late lunch starting at 2:30 p.m. if you prefer a quieter atmosphere. I don't find the ambiance traditional, but it's modern and still appealing. The service was very friendly, and our orders arrived promptly. Unfortunately, after everything was on the table, no one else came. I went up front to pay.

The main courses and sushi dishes are delicious. But after the coronavirus pandemic and the economic downturn, prices have increased by at least 30-40%, and portions have become smaller. The staff is very slow, and sometimes you get your food first and drinks afterward. The ambiance is very nice and stylish, but the seating is a disaster. You get back pain after 15 minutes because you're sitting on a bench the whole time.

Every time I come here, I am convinced how comfortable, pleasant and tasty it is here, I highly recommend it, but keep in mind that the food is not cheap ))

The food and service were very good as always, even though I occasionally wish they had a bit more sushi without fish or seafood, it's still always nice to eat there. The service was great, and the atmosphere, although a bit noisy at times, was still very cozy. I highly recommend the restaurant.

On all my trips to Koblenz, I always return to Papa Umi. I've tried several dishes, and they're all tasty and filling. My favorite remains the curry rice with duck or salmon. Pictured here are the salmon noodles, which were also spectacular. The restaurant's atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed, and the service is friendly and prompt. It offers a wide range of seating options, making it ideal for solo travelers, couples, and groups of all sizes.

Unfortunately there is very very little choice of vegetarian dishes. Even some dishes that are declared vegetarian are prepared with fish sauce, which is not mentioned in the list of ingredients but only in a footnote - as a vegetarian you have to study the menu carefully. Since the menu is clearly available online, you can find out more information in advance and consider whether there is something in the limited selection. Definitely a plus point for that. There's nothing to complain about with the edamame and the avo and cucumber makis were quite tasty. The seaweed in the sushi was a little too firm. The ice cream (green tea and sesame) tastes good and is generously served with mango. The waitresses were all very friendly. The atmosphere there is inviting. However, I recommend choosing a seat with a wall behind you if you don't like sitting on benches without a backrest.

The food here is really delicious. The interior with the open kitchen is inviting. Unfortunately, my girlfriend and I didn't get enough even though the price here is on the higher end. But what ultimately really left a bitter taste in our mouths was when the actually friendly waitress (blonde) simply gave us all the change as a tip when we were doing the billing, as a matter of course, just as we were reaching into our wallets to choose the amount ourselves. To avoid an unpleasant situation, we left it at that. Apparently, a lot of tips are expected for the already expensive food...

I have been visiting Papa Umi for quite a long time. I think the food is really tasty and is always beautifully prepared. Unfortunately the prices have been raised significantly. The Mango Lassi now tastes good diluted with water. You can hardly taste the coconut cream.

I was recently at PAPA UMI in Koblenz and was really impressed. The food was super fresh and delicious, especially the sushi and healthy dishes. The drinks were really good too. The store is very clean and nicely decorated, you immediately feel at home. The staff was really friendly, attentive and warm – high praise! I'll definitely be back. Wir waren am 22.3.25. Essen - sushi war super gut aber der Service eine Katastrophe. Wir waren in einer Gruppe mit 8 Personen dort und konnten nur 2x Getränke bestellen weil keiner gekommen ist. Und zum Schluss war die Bedienung beleidigt weil wir getrennt gezahlt haben. Sowas haben wir noch nie erlebt.

I recently had dinner at your place with my gay and queer roommate Florian and unfortunately our visit wasn't all pleasant. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we noticed that my roommate, who is gay, was being looked at strangely by some other guests and even an employee. This made us both feel very uncomfortable. Even more unpleasant, however, was the food itself. My dish tasted strange – I would describe it as slightly “feathered” or even like a bird (possibly a budgie?). This taste sensation was extremely unsettling and completely ruined my appetite. I am very disappointed with this experience and hope you take my concerns seriously. Unfortunately, it doesn't taste as good as I wanted. Somehow sweetened. But the choice is not great. But the design of dishes and drinks is good.

The restaurant in Koblenz has a very large indoor area with many tables, some of which are very close together. Otherwise nicely furnished, due to the size the ambience is good but it is a bit louder. For families there is a nice offer for younger guests in a separate corner. But if you go there alone and sit nearby it is quite loud. Some guests had changed places again. The food always tasted very good to us. No matter whether sushi, soup, starters, everything is super tasty, good quality. There was nothing to complain about in terms of taste. In terms of price, it's not cheap. We were a little upset that the wontons (see picture) had very little filling. I wasn't expecting a huge mass of beef but here you could hardly taste any of it. The service was friendly, but the waiting times for someone to come in or clear the plate were longer. The request to serve starters with the main course worked out perfectly. Overall I give it 4/5 stars. There's definitely not enough food, but the service and especially the story with the wontons only allow for 4 stars for this visit.

Mein Mann und ich waren heute im Papa Umi zum Mittagessen. Wir wurden freundlich empfangen und durften uns unseren Tisch selbst aussuchen. Vorneweg aßen wir Edamame, mein Mann hatte als Hauptspeise einen Salat mit gegrilltem Hähnchen und ich gönnte mir ein Sushi-Menü (Menü 4). Alles war lecker und frisch zubereitet. Ich esse sehr gerne und oft Sushi und kann hier die schlechten Rezensionen absolut nicht nachvollziehen. Der Fisch war delikat und frisch. Meinem Mann gefiel das Dressing seines Salats, hatte es doch die von ihm so geliebte, leichte Schärfe. Alle Komponenten auf den Tellern waren sehr ansprechend vorbereitet und arrangiert. Uns hat es sehr gut geschmeckt und wir kommen sicher wieder. Auf der Karte gab es noch viele Gerichte, die wir gerne noch ausprobieren werden.

Absolutely terrible and bad!! Poor sushi quality and no service at all! We had to get up and ask to order, we had to ask when the main course would finally arrive and we had to go back and let them know to pay! All the other neighboring tables had the same fate! The tuna slices on the nigiris were so thin that you could count the grains of rice underneath. The fish smelled and my husband's duck had absolutely nothing to do with a good duck dish! Gray and dry! And the prices are more than exorbitant! We will never eat there again!

The food was really good, but it took 45 minutes to take the order (3x starter + 3x main course) after another half hour then the starter but only 2. The third starter came a good 20 minutes later! Then again 45 minutes later the main course is here! All in all, the service was not good...the guests around us felt the same way!

We spontaneously decided to have lunch there after hearing rave reviews about this restaurant. Based on the description of the food on the menu, everything sounded great. In short: It's not it. Some of the food was good. A soup was loveless, sad, poorly seasoned and blandly prepared. There were no multiple dishes. Only 1 of 3 desserts can be served. Ambiance: modern, cozy car workshop Service: casually distant At €150 for 4 people (a total of 1 starter, 4 main courses, 1 dessert) there is still a lot of room for improvement. The price-performance ratio is not right here. In this price range you have to have your logistics under control or reduce the size of the map. I'm not going there anymore. I'm really disappointed.

It was October with my family and around 15 people eating there. We wanted to celebrate something with my wife, the food is really tasty but back then there was something wrong with the service. Cutlery was always missing or something was forgotten; we were often only served when I went to the checkout and basically forced myself on. With tips it was well over €500 Today, December 29th, 24, we thought let's have dinner there again, just the two of us. We had reserved. - you're standing at the entrance, there's a sign saying "please wait". So we wait for 15-20 minutes, no one comes. OK then we just went in and were then allowed to choose a table. There was little going on. - we ordered a starter and drinks and had left the menu and wanted to order the main course afterwards. So far so good. After we finished we waited and waited and waited, nothing happened. I went out to smoke and there were 10-15 people standing outside waiting because of the stupid sign. I told the people, just go in, they won't come. After I was finished, no one came to take our order. Forced myself again, still have to argue with the service and are told how it works blah blah, although we had clarified it with her right at the beginning. Food came and it was really good, but my mood was really ruined. If you want to pay and let them know verbally, it will take another 20-30 minutes. Fed up, I had to go to the cash register and force myself back. 90€ and no tip this time. Tip: 1 - remove the stupid sign in front!! 2 - fire the service manager! Or hire one! Conclusion: every snack bar has better service than you. I'm not going there anymore

War Oktober mit meiner Familie ca. 15 Personen dort Essen wir wollten mit meiner Frau etwas Feiern, das Essen ist wirklich ausgezeichnet aber damals hatte schon mit dem Service etwas nicht gestimmt. Ständig hat Besteck gefehlt oder es wurde etwas vergessen, bedient wurden wir oft erst als ich an die Kasse ging und mich quasi aufgezwungen habe. Mit Trinkgeld waren es weit über 500€ Heute den 29.12.24, wir dachten lass uns noch mal dort zu Abend essen, zu zweit. Wir hatten reserviert. - stehst am Eingang, dort steht ein Schild "bitte warten". So warten wir 15-20 Minuten, es kommt keiner. OK dann sind wir einfach rein und wir durften uns dann einen Tisch aussuchen. Es war wenig los. - wir bestellen eine Vorspeise, Getränke und hatten und die Karte noch gelassen, wollten danach noch den Hauptgang bestellen. Soweit so gut. Nach dem wir fertig waren haben wir gewartet und gewartet und gewartet, es tut sich nichts. Bin raus zum Rauchen und draußen stehen 10-15 Personen und warten, wegen dem blöden Schild. Hab den Leuten gesagt, geht einfach rein die kommen nicht. Nach dem ich fertig war, kam immer nicht keiner um unsere Bestellung aufzunehmen. Hatte mich wieder aufgezwungen, muss sich noch mit dem Service streiten und wirst belehrt wie das läuft Blabla, dabei hatten wir es mit ihr direkt am Anfang geklärt. Essen kam das wirklich gut war aber mit der Laube war es dann wirklich durch. Willst bezahlen und lässt es die verbal wissen, dauert wieder 20-30 Minuten. Schnauze voll, musste ich abgezogen an die Kasse gehen und mich wieder aufdrängen.  90€ und kein Trinkgeld diesmal. Tip: 1 - macht das dumme Schild vorne weg!! 2 - entlasst den Servicechef! Oder stellt einen ein! Fazit: jede imbissbude hat einen besseren Service als ihr. Ich geh da nicht mehr hin

BUT, there was no guaranteed vegetarian main course on the menu and I find that simply incomprehensible, especially in this day and age. Even as a regular customer, I'm fed up and will never come back. The food has not only become more expensive but also much, much smaller. You could already see it on the plate before eating. When I eat it, I'm shocked: it's simply halved. This borders on fraud.

I was there last week and unfortunately I was served inedible duck. It wasn't fried crispy, but had a rubbery consistency. The taste was also very strange, so I couldn't eat a bite. When I mentioned this to customer service, they didn't address it and simply referred me to a new supplier. I had to pay the full price and can absolutely not recommend the restaurant!

ABSOLUTER TOTALSCHLAG! Wir haben Essen zum Mitnehmen bestellt und haben bei Abholung zweimal nachfragen, ob das richtige Menü für die Kinder im Paket ist. Trotzdem war es wiederholt FALSCH! Nachdem wir uns bei der Tel.-Reklamation beschwert haben, wurden wir einfach nur abgewimmelt. Keine Entschuldigung, keine Erstattung, keine Entschädigung. Wir haben angeblich falsch bestellt, obwohl das nicht sein kann. Nach diesem Desaster sind wir definitiv zum letzten Mal bei Papa Umi gewesen und können nur jedem davon abraten, hier zu bestellen. Ein absolutes No-Go! Kundenservice = Note 6, das Essen war auch schonmal besser. Hat mir nicht geschmeckt.

ABSOLUTE TOTAL FAILURE! We ordered takeaway and asked twice when we picked it up to make sure the right menu for the children was in the package. Yet it was repeatedly WRONG! After we complained on the phone, we were simply brushed off. No apology, no refund, no compensation. Apparently we ordered wrong, although that couldn't be the case. People want to listen to the Vodafone phone call - we hope so! After this disaster, we have definitely been to Papa Umi for the last time and can only advise anyone not to order here. An absolute no-go! Customer service = grade 6, the food was also better. I didn't like it.

The food was really delicious and the service was impeccable. Unfortunately, the sanitary facilities were in a messy state, which I found a bit of a shame.

The food tastes delicious. I think it would be better if there were more staff working in the evenings because there are a lot of people and you have to wait quite a long time for a waiter... But otherwise very great restaurant! I can definitely recommend sake there.

The "no reservations" policy is annoying when you're sitting elbow to elbow with strangers and eating dinner for 80 euros per head. The crown, however, is the price increase. I know everything is more expensive, but a 50-80% increase compared to the previous year is not realistic.

Spontaneously got a table for two on a Saturday around 6 p.m. without a reservation. Waited at the entrance and then a friendly waitress arrived. She led us to a table. Menus came very quickly. Despite the full restaurant, extra requests were warmly received and fulfilled. Very fresh and tasty.

The price-performance ratio is still not right, a guest should never dirty a plate passed across the table by the service because sauce sticks to the underside of the plate. The portion sizes are okay, but they don't justify the price. Overall, there is room for improvement here. I can only recommend this restaurant to a limited extent.

Wir waren gegen 19.00 Uhr dort, war nicht sehr voll. angenehme Atmosphäre, wenn man von der Musik absieht. Vorspeise und Getränke waren fix da, dann haben wir gewartet auf die bestellten Suppen. Nachfrage ergab "das dauert, muß ja gekocht werden". Wurde dann ca 5 Minuten nach diesen Worten gebracht. Kein Wort der Entschuldigung. Convenience Produkte sind völlig OK, ist ja kein Sternerestaurant. Was wir bekamen war allerdings eine erkennbare ( halbe) Tütensuppe, ein Fertigprodukt namens "Mama o.ä." Typisch gekringelte Nudeln, die nur mit heißem Wasser oder Brühe aufgegossen werden und dann verzehrfertig sind, Päckchen mit Gewürzen sind dabei. Dazu gab es ein wenig Brockolie, zwei Pilze und zwei Teigtaschen. Geschmeckt hats, aber ein Geschmäckle bleibt.

Wir hatten einen Gutschein für ein Essen im Papa Umi und waren vorher stark verunsichert durch die schlechten Bewertungen in 2024 ...vielleicht auch etwas skeptisch, weil wir eher nicht asiatisch essen und auch kein Fan von Sushi sind. Doch unsere Essen (Curry mit Huhn und mit Roastbeef) waren wirklich sehr, sehr lecker, es gab gar nichts auszusetzen, Bedienung freundlich und schnell, alles topp! ...außer vielleicht die fehlende Rückenlehne und die nervige Musik :-)

I always come to this restaurant when I'm in Koblenz. Freshly prepared food, very appealing and tasty. I always enjoy coming back!
