As one of the top pizzerias in town, always worth a visit!

I don't know what is happening here. To begin with in the past 15 years I have visited this place like once a year. It was my go to recommendation for best pizza in town. Now to the current situation. The staff was completely unattentive and reaction was incredibly slow despite medium load of the place and 4 service workers... Also only one seemed to be Italian. Which used to be way more. Our wine got spilled and they tried to offload a half empty carve. Our food the 2 of us ordered together came 30 minutes apart and was not what I am used to at the place. Don't want to be mean but it was really just mediocre at best. Finally the highlight. The toilet was overflowing with fences and the lights were broken... So you most likely stepped in it... Lovely. I know it's a shared facility but at least put up a warning that there is serious issues... To be surprised like this was honestly disgusting and the staff is aware... I used to love this place and I certainly will update my review if I go there again at some point in the future but current state as of August 2025 I can only say even street food pizza will give you a better experience.

Good pizza, nothing to complain about. The service, on the other hand, was terrible. We had reserved a table outside, but when we arrived, they were already taken. The pizza arrived 45 minutes after we received the beer, which had by then become warm. Due to an electrical problem, the room was dark and the coffee machine didn't work, yet at the cash register they wanted every last cent, with no discount. Real Italian restaurants know how to treat their customers much better.

My favorite restaurant in Berlin. I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. The pizza is definitely one of the best I've ever eaten. The service and atmosphere are top-notch, and the prices are great.

If you want to feel like a second-class guest, this is the place for you. The service is strikingly lacking in courtesy and there's a striking disparity between guests – depending on who you are, you're treated differently. And the food? It fits perfectly: unloving, bland, and definitely no reason to return. An experience – but unfortunately, in a negative sense.

This is an Italian restaurant famous for its delicious pizza. This small, cozy pizza restaurant is popular not only with tourists but also with locals. The price is reasonable and the portion is generous.

The food is excellent and the ambiance truly fantastic. However, there are many tables in a small space, and the food can be a long wait, at least in the evenings (at least 60 minutes).

I had a great experience here. The service was excellent the indian staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome...I really appreciated how the team checked in during the meal to make sure everything was perfect…. Would definitely recommend and visit again!!!!!! 🥰

Everything was simply wonderful! The service was incredibly friendly and polite! I had vitello tonato and my daughter had a kids' pizza and Sprite. The vitello tonato was one of the best I've ever eaten. My daughter said she had the best pizza she'd ever had here. It was simply amazing! We'll definitely be back!

Unfortunately, it's more like it used to be. Prices are very high. I used to be a regular here. The pizza could be fluffier.

We love this restaurant. We've been going to Papa e Pane for years because of the incredibly delicious food, but also because of the incredibly friendly and welcoming service. The ambiance is simply dreamy, especially in summer. We can 100% recommend the restaurant. The pizza is the best in Berlin 🙏🏻🤍 Oliver provides the best service you could wish for. A very warm welcome, no matter who comes or how often you've been here, you're always welcome. Our starter was served with focaccia and baguette. The pasta was delicious and the portions were generous. It was accompanied by a good wine. The prices are reasonable. In the evenings, it gets really busy and cozy. Definitely recommended!🍝✨

In een woord: vreselijke plek. Ik heb nog nooit een review geschreven, maar dit personeel is echt verschrikkelijk. Trage bediening, slechte hygiëne, niet lekkere pizza’s. En dan geef je ondanks alles alsnog uit beleefdheid fooi, worden ze ontzettend kwaad omdat het te laag is. Snauwend totdat je meer fooi betaald. Ontzettend triest. Nog nooit zoiets meegemaakt.

Hier sieht man mal wieder, dass die Geschmäcker verschieden sein können. Persönlich fand ich die Pizza mit Büffelmozzarella wirklich einfach nur grandios. Lange nicht mehr solch eine gute Pizza genossen. Beim Rest vom Tisch kamen die anderen Pizzen auch gut an, wenn auch nicht so begeistert. Allerdings hatten wir eine sehr lange Wartezeit, während es am Nachbartisch (Stammgäste?), der nach uns gekommen war, deutlich schneller ging. Insgesamt ein sehr interessanter Abend in einem lebhaften Lokal.

I find it a real shame. I saw it in a video at Big Baba and thought it was amazing. But I keep noticing that everything is only made nice and effortful for the bloggers, while with regular guests who actually spend money, it's the opposite. The staff was nice, even if you were overly nice to them. But no hello, nothing; that had to come from us. The bosses are super nice; you honestly can't say anything against them. But it's usually the case that the staff or the management isn't right; you can't have both. The wait for the food is just too long. The place wasn't really full, and we waited 40 minutes for pasta. Then the pasta arrived as expected; there was so little on the plate that I had to go back for another meal. Which I would never do. And the prices are never justified. We left a stone-cold €50 for pasta. I'll leave €50 for pasta somewhere where I know I'll leave feeling really happy and not be left with a full stomach. ``` It's a shame. I have no idea what was going on in the video, but it was the exact opposite. It's a shame, because he did a tremendous amount of preparatory work for them, and we would have gone there more often if it hadn't been so bad. Just a lull.

The food is outstanding, similar quality to many meals had in Italy. Someone else highly reviewed the tagliatelle in a cream sauce with asparagus & shaved truffles, which was so good we got a second plate. The pasta w/oil & garlic also excellent and the salad is generously portioned. Pizzas (marghareta & a mixed veg. w/aubergine, artichoke, peppers, & onions) also excellent. The place was PACKED and there was an error/delay on our order, but they more than made up for it with gracious apology and a comped item. I would absolutely come back here. Total bill for 4 hungry adults + a hungry toddler came to €130 including a round of drinks. Very reasonable.

Today we ordered for the whole family through Wolt for the first time – and we are absolutely thrilled! The food was simply fantastic: very, very tasty, fresh, and of outstanding quality. Every single dish was prepared with love – you could immediately tell that true professionals are at work here. But what impressed us most was the service: When the Wolt delivery drivers were delayed, the restaurant didn't hesitate and brought us the food themselves – quickly, friendly, and completely hassle-free. They didn't even want to accept the full tip, despite their hard work. That was truly extraordinary and touched us deeply. We are already looking forward to visiting the restaurant in person soon. We absolutely recommend it – it couldn't be better!

Completely full restaurant, and some larger companies took up a lot of the space and thus occupied the waiters. In this board we were sometimes forgotten. I think the restaurant needs to work on much better logistics then it will get top reviews. Nice waiter did his best, but there was a lot of waiting for our order.

The pizzas here are very good, as is the Aperol. Unfortunately, it was very loud and the wait times, especially for drinks, were very long. You should definitely make a reservation here.

I was there for lunch. The 10€ pizza funghi was OK, but quite tasteless (the salt on the table was definitely a plus). The wait was about 20 minutes, even though the restaurant wasn't full. Service was friendly and attentive. I wouldn't give it a special recommendation, but you can eat there. Card payments for orders over 15€. I don't necessarily have to go back, but I might try it again, as they were really great 5-10 years ago.

Great italian food place. A Tratoria like any kind of Tratoria you should find in Rome, in the heart of Berlin. I have tried the pasta with the tartufoand asparagi and the wife have tried another dish with carchufo and fava beans. It was awesome! The service was lovely, the crue were really awesome, kind snd nice, helping us in every detail we have asked or needed and I make me feel at home. I would definitely come here again, and this time I promised I would try the pizza too!

After a very unpleasant experience in Mitte where we had bad pizza and most unfriendly service, we decided to give this place a try, and IT WAS ABSOLUTELY amazing! The area Mitte is indeed stuffed with touristic places and overpriced pizzas, but Papa pane is one of the old institutions, the service is so nice even if it was crazy busy. Nobody was giving you attitude and they were also well organized. The pizza aas better than the pasta dishes, but both were really good. It was a little bit loud but the atmosphere was very nice. I will definetely visit this place again and again! (The dessert was huge btw)

Founded 20 years ago by 3 brothers Antonio, Luciano and Gionatan Pane. Pane means “bread” in Italian. So Bernd the bread would be called Paul Pane in Italian. Apparently there is the best pizza in Berlin here. The Neapolitan pizza available here is actually not bad, and above all not burnt. You can feel the experience of 20 years. The value for money is good, the service is friendly and attentive, and you don't have to wait too long for your food.

Maybe i am getting old: it was too noisy. Food was fine: i had pizza and it reminded me of Napoli. My friends had pasta and were all disappointed.

Good Italian pizza in Berlin-Mitte. The antipasti are great, some pasta dishes like truffle tagliatelle are delicious, but some seafood pasta dishes are disappointing. The service is okay, but it took a very long time for the food to be delivered. I would come back here again if it was not crowded.

It may be one of the most delicious pizzas I've ever eaten, I especially recommend you try the eggplant one.

I haven't been here for a few years. Unfortunately, the quality of the ingredients has seriously deteriorated and the open wine comes from the bottom shelf. I would recommend just eating pizza, it's really solid, even if there are better alternatives in Berlin. Service was friendly, attentive and they had the very busy store well under control!

Bad service and crockery tried to add more to the bill we had ordered

We ate there today and it was pretty crowded and loud. Unfortunately, despite calling, the service often ran past us and a repeat order was forgotten. Since our dishes arrived well in advance, we had the choice between eating before the others or eating cold. Since that can happen on a Saturday evening due to a lot of guests, I'm still giving it 3 stars. Unfortunately the food was quite disappointing. I had a carbonara that was pretty tasteless and dry. I've definitely eaten a lot of better carbonara. I ate bruschetta as a starter. It was okay, but not particularly special, carelessly prepared and, like the carbonara, quite dry. For dessert there was tiramisu. It's a very large portion, which isn't a bad thing per se. However, 80% of it felt like just cream, it didn't taste like a café, it was way too sweet and there wasn't much biscuit dough either. Unfortunately the worst tiramisu I have ever eaten.

Came here last night driven by the good reviews. The waitress was lovely and beer also lovely but the food was unbelievably bad; ordered a carbonara and was served some kind of Rigatoni or Paccheri which was disgusting; watery and like a soup, wrong ingredients, had mushroom taste - I think they honestly tried to rebadge some other leftovers as it was quiet and about 1.5 hours before close. I have never in my life returned a meal but found it inedible and was more fuming when the waitress said “maybe you are not used to italian style pasta” 😅😅😅😅 Would be wary if you’re going anywhere near to closing time, perhaps that was the issue.

No WC room. The bartender told that restroom is located under the tree at the street in front of entrance. And there is strong urine odor. Not possible to wash hands. Food is perfect and waitress providing excellent service.

Hello, very centrally located and highly frequented business that is well-reputed. Prices are quite ambitious, given the location. Because of that and because Italian gastronomy is not my favorite, I'm unlikely to become a regular customer here. All the best to the company and its employees

Very good Italian restaurant with delicious, sometimes exceptionally prepared pizzas. The service was very friendly and in the restaurant you can pre-cut the pizzas if you wish and you can order additional plates so that you can share several pizzas with several people. Great concept! The rooms are quite large, they don't seem particularly comfortable, but you do feel comfortable. Despite the size, it was very crowded, so make a reservation. Clear recommendation for a visit!

My favorite Italian restaurant in Berlin. Strozzapretti with Ragu Bolognese is, as always, extremely delicious. Unfortunately there is no longer any lunch, which we very much regret. Update March 19, 2025: It's back: lunch at papa pane di Sorrento! I'm really happy about it.

A culinary short vacation to Italy – an unforgettable evening at Papa Pane! Sometimes there are those special evenings that burn deep in your heart - not just because of the company, but also because of the magic of the food. My partner took me to Papa Pane and from the first moment I felt welcome, almost like I was with old friends. The ambience? Warm, lively, full of warmth. The service? Perfect – attentive but unobtrusive, with that charming Italian spirit. And then the food… fireworks for the senses! We started with the eggplant tartare - a taste explosion of fine roasted aromas and Mediterranean freshness. Each bite melted in the mouth as if it told a story of Italy. But the highlight of the evening? The Diavola pizza. Even as I write this sentence, I can feel the feeling of happiness from back then. The crispy, extremely tender base, the spicy, hot salami, the fruity tomato sauce – I closed my eyes and was no longer in Berlin, but somewhere between Naples and Sicily. And because we couldn't stop enjoying, we treated ourselves to the incredible dessert platter - a sweet symphony that perfectly rounded off the experience. A week later, I still think back to that meal with a smile on my face and looking forward to the next time. Papa Pane, you are great! Thank you for this unforgettable evening! Very cool store with even cooler employees. Spontaneously set up in the evening with 6 people - getting a table was super flexible. Great pizza and delicious tartare, enjoyed a few oysters first - with spectacular homemade limoncello and relaxed Berli-taliono sayings from Luciano. Finally, delicious desserts at the table. We had a really nice evening in the restaurant. I've never eaten pizza better. The service was a smooth one. We got to the restaurant a few minutes early, the owners were so kind and bought us two drinks. This even though we were there 25 minutes before our reservation. A very big compliment. Not recommended for older people or people with mobility problems because there are toilets in the basement. 17 high concrete staircase steps. Danger of tripping! Unfortunately, there are no handrails on the outside walls of the stairwell for people with walking difficulties, for their safety. Experience report December 14, 2024, 6:00 p.m The shop was jam-packed, overcrowded, overseated with around 150 people; there were 20 of us alone and up to 50 candles. No windows to open. More carbon monoxide than oxygen, certainly fatal for asthmatics. ... And if 150 people are shouting at each other, the level on the decibel scale is way, way up there. No one could talk to their neighbor, no one understood a word. ...And what you need to know: You won't find a toilet here in the restaurant. To do this, you have to leave the premises through a fire safety door. Then you find yourself in an escape stairwell. Then you look for the way to the toilets. Then you discover a toilet scribble on the wall below, but no professional standard sign. Then you climb half the stairs (approx. 9 mega-high concrete steps) to a platform, then do the same thing again (approx. 8 steps). Then you are at the toilet area, unfortunately full of rubbish with various pieces of paper. The soap dispensers were empty or maybe broken. And then we went up the stairs very slowly again. Never again!!

We had a corporate dinner with 3 courses. Everything was delicious, but the biggest highlight is the service and atmosphere! It was so wonderful experience, owners put all heart in this place.

An absolutely great Italian! We were there with a larger group and felt very comfortable. The service is absolutely fast and reliable, even when the shop is packed, the waiter always has a casual saying to say. The pizza was super tasty and absolutely fresh. The atmosphere in the old market hall is simply great. Very clear recommendation!!
