During our visit to PAPA MI Xanten, it was quite noisy, but the atmosphere was pleasant and lovingly decorated. The food was tasty, although it could have been a bit hotter. It's a shame that only cash payments are accepted, hence one star deduction. A reservation is probably necessary, as the restaurant gets busy. Overall, a pleasant visit!

I've been to Papa Mi many times, and whether I've eaten there or ordered to take away, the food is always delicious, consistently high quality, and beautifully presented. I like trying different things and am always satisfied. It's a bit pricey, but everything is expensive these days. For such good food, the prices are completely reasonable! The service is always friendly and hard-working. It's very loud when you eat in, and the place is almost always full, so we prefer to order to take away.

The small Papa Mi fast food restaurant was great. After the big one on Hühnerstraße, we got food poisoning today. Ate 500g, lost 6kg body weight on the bowl. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice, but I'm afraid the cold chain wasn't maintained for the sushi salmon.

The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was okay, but we expected more. The duck breast was probably pre-cooked or taken from the freezer, as the meat was gray and not pink. The sushi maki were very small.

Very, very rarely do I give it 5 points. I can hardly remember it. And very rarely have I drunk such a full-bodied Mai Tai that not only looked magnificent but also tasted like it. First hit. Then, no sooner had everyone enthusiastically tucked into the drinks than the two main courses arrived: I had a curry with crispy duck breast. It was accompanied by al dente vegetables and a mixed salad of lettuce and—actually—pointed cabbage with an excellent dressing. All served on a hot plate with a curry sauce rim. My sweetheart had rice noodles with silken tofu and salad with a dreamy chili-ginger-lime vinaigrette. "You'll never manage that," I thought. But despite their opulent appearance, the dishes were light and fluffy in an Asian style. The sushi (we don't like sushi) that arrived at the next table looked magnificent. Beautifully presented and incredibly delicious, I heard. The outdoor tables are set in a traffic-free side street off the market square, providing a rustic beach bar atmosphere. The staff, all young and friendly, are Asian-style, humorous, and attentive. My only complaint at a high level is that the food came a little too quickly, barely after we'd even sniffed the Mai Tai. There are plenty of reasons to visit Xanten (Moyland, the Roman stuff) – Papa Mi is one of them.

Unfortunately, the sashimi (#59) isn't sushi-quality fish. The salmon still tastes quite good, though (the tuna is unfortunately too tough). Likewise, the salmon tartare was obviously prepared hours in advance, as the sauce on top had dried and discolored in some places. Fried tempura shrimp (#3) was okay, but was it really homemade? It tasted and looked like it came from the freezer. Very attentive staff, but payment is cash only, even for larger amounts.

What should you primarily judge a restaurant on? The food, because that's what you're there for! I found it excellent, both in terms of taste, ingredients, and appearance. We were outside and had a good seat there. Unfortunately, we didn't see any notice that they only accept cash payments. This wasn't indicated on the menu or at the entrance. So it was awkward and strange to have to find a bank first to pay the bill.

Table after table, you can hear all the conversations from the neighboring tables. We only order because the food is really great.

The sushi at PAPA MI is truly top-notch – superb quality, freshly prepared, and of a very high standard of flavor. I enjoy ordering here time and time again and have never been disappointed. However, there is one point deducted for the payment options: Why can't you pay by card here? Especially given the rather high prices, I would expect cashless payment to be standard. These days, it should be standard. Still, a clear recommendation for all sushi lovers!

Delicious and affordable food. The portions are a good size and the service is fast and friendly. I had the "Erdnuss Soße Knusprige Entenbrust" (number 73). Highly recommended!

I found it quite loud; we were there around 6 p.m. in the evening. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, but you could sometimes hear conversations from the table next to you.

During the busy Xanten Easter Market on April 12, 2025, we decided to go to the centrally located Asian restaurant Papa Mi, one street from the market square. I've eaten here several times in this truly beautiful town. Because of the wonderful weather, we chose to sit outside in front of the restaurant, where it was very quiet. Since we were there for lunch, it was very quiet inside the beautifully decorated restaurant, which exudes a pleasant ambiance in the evenings with its cozy lighting. In the evenings, the restaurant is very busy and unfortunately has a correspondingly high noise level, which isn't always pleasant. The service is provided by Asians who, unfortunately, are sometimes not particularly attentive, speak only very broken German, and you often have to wait a long time. In contrast, the food, which is known for its sushi and Vietnamese cuisine, is simply really good and very tasty. Our plate dishes, mango salad with chicken breast and curry sauce with spicy grilled chicken breast (see photos), were absolutely fantastic, very tasty, deliciously seasoned, and very filling, so we didn't leave the table hungry. We also had homemade ginger tea, which was also really delicious and packed with lots of fresh ingredients. Regarding the food, the value for money is extremely good and, in my opinion, not expensive at all. The menu is very extensive and, by European standards, leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to Vietnamese and Japanese food. Speaking of wishes... more attentive service would certainly be a reasonable request. However, I will always return here because the food is truly worth it. I wish everyone who tries it a great culinary experience. I definitely recommend making a table reservation.

I went to Papa mi's several times after it reopened and always remembered the place as being really good. I hadn't been back for a few years until recently. The food was delicious, but somehow it lacked that certain something I remembered from before. The sushi I ordered contained ingredients that weren't listed on the menu. However, it was kindly prepared from scratch. The soup I ordered contained cilantro, even though I had specifically asked for it beforehand and pointed out that we would only order it without cilantro. My favorite drink was unfortunately also gone from the menu. Speaking of cards: Even after all this time, card payments are still not accepted here, which I didn't mind, as I was used to it and was already familiar with it. The service was friendly, but seemed a bit stressed. Nevertheless, we felt comfortable and enjoyed the food. The restaurant is visually very nicely decorated and has a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was very crowded and, due to the large space, correspondingly noisy. All in all, it's okay – I hope things go as usual on my next visit, because I really like the store.

Super delicious! I highly recommend the silken tofu with peanut sauce, the lychee soda, and the sesame balls with red bean filling. The wonton soup as an appetizer was also amazing!

Unfortunately, I have to say that the wait times are unbearable. It's easy to forget about people in the store, and orders are easily mixed up. However, it must be said that it was a very busy Friday. Nevertheless, the sushi tasted very good.

At short notice I decided to stop by Papa Mi. Very crowded for a Thursday around 7:00 p.m. It's quite loud in the restaurant - it's a little more difficult to have a conversation. As always, the service is very nice and very fast despite the high occupancy. The order came to the table very quickly. The chicken skewers were well cooked - which corresponds to good Asian cooking and deliciously seasoned. However, the peanut sauce was thin and devoid of any particular flavor. The selection of sushi went like this. The makers were at room temperature and the nori sheet was a bit limp. The pickled ginger was woody and barely edible. The wasabi served has no taste and is not particularly spicy. All in all, I can also get this from 'Eat Smarter' in a well-stocked supermarket. Ok as a quick dinner. But anyone who has ever enjoyed 'real' sushi will not be thrilled.

Definitely a new favorite restaurant! Following several recommendations, we spontaneously (without reservation) went to Papa Mi in Xanten for the first time today. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and has a great ambience. Plus point: the chairs are very comfortable! The service is very friendly and quick. The preparation time was absolutely satisfactory and the food was phenomenally tasty! Everything was very fresh and really nicely presented! We absolutely loved it and will definitely come back. The restaurant is on the ground floor and is also accessible/suitable for wheelchair users.

I like coming here. The only thing I've noticed over the last few years is that peanut sauce tastes less like peanuts and is much more liquid than it used to be. The recipe could be revised again!

We ordered takeout on Thursday – tofu with mango sauce – definitely peanut-free, as my daughter has a severe intolerance. After just a few bites, she started experiencing symptoms, shortness of breath, etc. Of course, I called the restaurant – they supposedly worked cleanly and didn't use peanuts. They told me to check on my daughter's health the next day. NOTHING – no call – nothing! Only thanks to the emergency medications available were we able to avoid a hospital stay. So, to all allergy sufferers – be careful!

Super attentive & very nice staff. The restaurant is always full and yet you can get the drinks and food you ordered super quickly. Everything is freshly prepared. Not what it used to be! Salmon no longer tastes fresh at all. The seaweed salad tastes like dish soap. Ginger is starting. The tempura rolls taste like old fat. Unfortunately it is no longer our number 1 restaurant in Xanten. Fell in twice. You have lost an incredible amount of quality.

Das Papa Mi Restaurant in Xanten ist für mich als Xantenerin das beste Restaurant vor Ort und ein Muss für Gäste - hier gibt es herrliche Gerichte, superfein abgeschmeckt. Am leckersten finde ich die Gerichte in Mangosauce (wahlweise Ente, Huhn, Lachs oder Scampi). Die natürliche Süße der Mango intensiviert den Geschmack. Gäste von außerhalb müssen aufpassen, nicht im falschen Papa Mi zu landen, da es einen gleichnamigen Imbiss (!) in Marktnähe gibt, den ich persönlich gar nicht mag - das Papa Mi-Restaurant liegt in der zweiten Reihe hinter dem Markt in der Hühnerstraße. Unbedingt einen Tisch reservieren, die Nachfrage ist riesig.

Even though we had a reservation, we had to wait for our seats, so why were we able to reserve? But well happened. After sitting for almost 20 minutes, we were finally able to order our drinks and then 30 minutes later our food, which took over an hour. All in all we waited almost 90 minutes for the food, which in the end was okay. Other guests around us simply left because they weren't served. Strong. If you want to go out for a nice meal in Xanten, you should either go somewhere else or plan half a day,

Unfortunately, I cannot share the positive impressions of the previous speakers here. First of all, we're not looking for a fly in the ointment here, we're just giving our impression of the evening. We know Papa Mi from another city, so we decided to visit this location in advance of the Christmas Circus in Xanten. Table was booked for 5:00 p.m., service came quite quickly, food/drink order was placed for three people... Wait. After asking again, drinks came after just over 20 minutes. At around 5:30 p.m. we could see our daughter's dish being placed next to the counter. It stayed there until around 6 p.m. and was then served along with our dishes. It is probably unnecessary to point out at this point that the food was already cold. The waitress pointed out that the food was returned. About 5 minutes later the dish was served again for our daughter... The fries had obviously been reheated in the deep fryer, as had the chicken. The fries were rock hard and could be broken in the middle with your finger like dry twigs. We politely rejected this dish too and, considering the time had passed, asked for the bill. Our conclusion: Maybe we had a bad day, but certain standards are unavoidable when visiting a restaurant, so we will not visit this location a second time.

We were in Xanten for a weekend, visited the beautiful Christmas market and thank God we had a reservation at Papa Mi, which was also very good because the restaurant was bursting at the seams (Saturday evening). Nevertheless, we still got a place. All service staff, very, very friendly. The cocktails were very good. Mixed The food came quickly too. We actually had the idea of ​​eating sushi, but then preferred two Asian dishes. The portions are very large and fill you up. We even had some of the food packed for us. However, I have 2 points of criticism: The sauces could be a little thicker. Had more of the consistency of soup and maybe took two tables out of the restaurant as you sit close together. It would make it more comfortable and you would also consume 1 or 2 more drinks. Otherwise fully recommended. When we're together again, we'll definitely come back to Papa Mi.

Since we were here at the Christmas market in Xanten today, we decided to have something to eat here. Everything was right, from the ambience to the service and also the food, everything was very harmonious. And absolutely fair in terms of price. We would come here again at any time if we end up in Xanten.

As always, only personal taste is expressed below. Opinions are divided when it comes to sushi. The traditionalists will miss the clear shapes and taste of Japanese sushi culture here. Instead, you get opulently draped plates with non-edible decorations, which are more oriented towards American sushi culture. Creamy! The fish was of good quality, but the ginger had nothing to do with the Japanese original. Baked wonton was crispy and fat-free. Recommendation. Unfortunately there were significant communication problems with the service. You should know your map and be able to explain it. In the best case scenario, being able to make recommendations will delight the guest and possibly increase sales. The essentially interesting interior design and ambience was spoiled by the usual fans and plastic flowers of the Chinese-Vietnamese style. Too bad. But you can do it. Also a matter of taste. Due to the lack of comparison offers, one can say with confidence: Papa Mi is the best Asian restaurant in the area. You can eat there! Only top-class restaurants with the best performance should receive 5 stars. I therefore give it a satisfactory rating in the midfield.
