The best bar in town. point, period. My absolute go-to when it comes to drinks for years. The food can also be rated as at least above average. I would like to see a little more offer/variety again, which has been reduced significantly since the pandemic, but that's complaining at a high level. Just for the drinks and the absolutely fair price-performance level, this remains one of my top favorite restaurants

Mega delicious food, nice service and authentic ambience. The cocktails were very tasty and great value for money during happy hour! we'll definitely be back! :)

Yesterday I went to Joe Penas for the first time with 6 old friends. I really liked the atmosphere. We had consistently very good and tasty dishes. The service always came by and asked if we wanted anything else. This place is begging to be visited again.

We got a place in the “winter garden”. It was inside, a kind of terrace, but there was only a tarpaulin hanging on it. A lot of cold came through and we were very cold at the end. My glass smelled like fermented leftovers. And no new water. Was just spilled. No apology either. A lot of finished products. e.g. the cheese sauce and the minced meat sauce. Dessert Churros with Nutella. I don't think Nutella is very suitable for a Mexican resatranut. Ordered dessert and waited a long time. Was forgotten.

Best Mexican food in Augsburg!! Dishes are worth their price, good cocktails with happy hour, other drinks are (too) expensive. Ambience authentic, but getting old. Four stars because it has deteriorated a bit over the last 15 years, back then it was perfect!

Simply a beautiful location, it's been around for so long, it's an institution. Food is good, service was attentive, waiting time was a bit long

Four people were there on a Monday evening. We got a table without a reservation because there was nothing going on. We waited over 1.5 hours for our food, which 1) didn't taste good at all and 2) was simply served ice cold. A perfectly normal wrap with frozen vegetables costs €17?! Cocktails were good - that's about it.

The food was nothing like what I know from my home country. The portions are also different than expected but okay. The staff was friendly but came too rarely. The atmosphere is nice, there are plants and beautiful lights everywhere.

We were warmly welcomed and given a nice spot in the cozy garden without a reservation. It was busy and there was a good atmosphere. Despite the crowds, friendly and quick service from the very nice staff. The tomato soup is definitely recommended as a starter. The burritos and enchiladas are very tasty. And be sure to try the churros for dessert. Delicious. We as a family of 4 had a pleasant and wonderful evening. To all the staff....keep up the good work. You are fantastic. Joe Penas is definitely recommended.

People who gave 5 star rating for cocktails probably don’t understand the meaning of what good cocktails are all about. I have extensively traveled across the globe and tasted the the native cocktails and confident enough to put review about their cocktail menu. The absolute turn off when your cocktail worth 9 € arrives in a cheap 1 € IKEA glass. The perfect idea of sipping Long Island ice tea in a long cylindrical glass seems to be a far fetched idea in this restaurant . The cocktail was laced with high concentration of white rum with no hint of tea at all. The other cocktail which we ordered lacked the elegance and were pretty mediocre looking at the absurdly over priced menu. Regarding food, it was average and nothing special. Ambience is really great and I feel this is how they fool people in spending money. @Joe Peña Reply to your response Thanks for taking it seriously :) However, the International Bartenders Association has the drink in their list of Official IBA Cocktails. Wikipedia. especially since it can be made with qualitatively simple spirits and in a short time. In professional circles and by professional bartenders, however, mixtures of certain or too many different basic spirits are often rejected, so that the Long Island Iced Tea does not even appear in some bar books. I agree that LIIT should not have aggressive punch of tea but there should be subtle note or a hint, which your cocktail actually lacked. I still back my claim that your LIIT was indeed mediocre Properly presenting and preparing drinks may seem extremely obvious, but it doesn’t hurt to make sure you’re doing it right. Take the time to properly prepare and present your drinks to help change your customer’s cocktail experience. Choosing the proper glass for your drinks is an important aspect that can sometimes be overlooked. Stronger mixed drinks, like gin and tonics, should go in a 10 to 12 ounce straight sided glass called a highball glass. Drinks of this sort require less mixer and therefore need less space. Weaker juice based drinks like screw drivers should go a 14 to 16 ounce highball glass called a Collins glass. The next two tips are easy to remember. A sour glass should be used for drinks ending in sour. Sour glasses are a shorter version of a champagne glass and allow customers to keep the drink colder for longer by holding it at the bottom of the glass. An “on the rocks” drink should be served in a glass known as a rocks glass. A coupette glass should be used for Margaritas and Daiquiris. The broad rim allows for it to be dipped into salt or attaching a piece of fruit like a lime. Last but definitely not least, a Martini glass should be used for what else but a Martini; along with any other shaken or strained cocktail.

Always delicious and a little vacation on the weekend. Great cocktails and delicious food, whether tapas or steak. It tastes good and you can sit comfortably in the garden or on the covered terrace. The waitresses are all very attentive and friendly. Really always a successful evening with Latin American rhythms.

I was recently at Joe Pena's restaurant in Augsburg and had an extremely unpleasant experience. It seems the restaurant doesn't want to serve certain people based on their appearance. I have seen reservation signs placed on unreserved tables to turn away certain guests. Other guests, however, were allowed to sit at the same tables after the reservation signs were removed. This is very disrespectful and discriminatory. In addition, I saw a rat running around in the garden of the restaurant and took a photo of it. That doesn't speak for the hygiene of the place. I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant. Such behavior is unacceptable.

I used to go there every two weeks 10 years ago but I no longer live in Augsburg. I finally went there again today and didn't regret it 😀 Service was great, I still found the food very tasty and the prices were okay too. Recommended!

We were full until the main course came. The maincourse was so good in quantity that we had to pack some stuff for home. But kept some space for desert . ❤️❤️ Food was awesome 🤩

A very nice restaurant, with very friendly service and fantastic cuisine. We ordered a variety of dishes, starting with an appetizer platter and moving on to a delicious fajita or a traditional burrito. The finale was a portion of churros, which we shared, but these were a must! Kudos also to the bartender, because the drinks shouldn't be ignored either!

Get a seat without a reservation. That is positive. Very friendly service, service. Get 5*. The food: no change for years. My very personal, therefore not objective opinion: Too tasteless. Too little too expensive. Ambiance? Oh well. No changes for years either. Nevertheless, the visit was 👍🏻 because the atmosphere of the restaurant is quite positive. If you like delicious cocktails and well-made Texmex, this is the place for you. Tastefully furnished, nice outdoor area and always courteous, although sometimes a bit overwhelmed (outdoor area was opened relatively spontaneously, so there were too many guests for the existing staff) service rounds the whole thing off

Totally lovely team and really delicious food.. Tip: Order the Lava Lamp schnapps, it's not on the menu but it's incredibly tasty!! My beef and chicken were sometimes tough and too dry, but overall a really great evening with delicious cocktails. 🥰

You have to personally enter, be served, enjoy every bite of delicious dishes, admire the craftsmanship of the cook and service, pay and remember to tip, and I guarantee you that you will remember JOE PEÑA'S AUGSBURG for a long time

Unfortunately, the food, drinks and service weren't really good.

You will be warmly welcomed and then find yourself in a rustic, friendly atmosphere. This is very reminiscent of Mexico (domestic, not tourist), just like the food, which is very close to the country's typical cuisine. Very good, toned down, but with typical local spices and of really good quality, you can indulge yourself here. Service was very quick, attentive and very friendly. Cocktails are crazy good too! Food ok, service bad. No waiter noticed that we hadn't had anything to drink for 45 minutes. It wasn't until 15 minutes after we ordered the dessert that we were informed that the dessert wasn't available today.

So let's be honest... That was the best food I ate in Augsburg!!! 🙌 It wasn't cheap, but the margaritas and the food were brutally good. We were in Mexico in December and the food there at the hotel was good, but not as good as here! Respect 👏

The food is average, nothing special, it's OK! The restaurant is quite small and the space was quite tight… Cleanliness also leaves a lot to be desired, even the tables were stuck and there was dirt or old food in the grooves!! The service and staff could also be more courteous/friendly. Conclusion: I definitely won't come here again.

Food was good. Waiting times for food are 1 1/2 hours, with small children it becomes uncomfortable for us and also for the guests. Ambiance is okay.

Friendly service, we waited a while for the food as the restaurant was very busy. The ambience is great.

I've been a regular guest there for many years (more than 20?) and I always eat the same thing. Yes, the appetizer platter became more expensive every few months and a little less on it every year and the corn on the cob stopped being grilled at some point, but since JAN it hasn't been right anymore. Another 25% (previously 4, then 3 pieces, now 2!) of the amount was removed, the ice cream was only half as big, the glasses were somehow different and we paid about 20€ more than all previous years . This can no longer be glossed over with the ever-popular VAT issue. Overall, my costs are around 30-40% higher than in DEC '23. When finger food/chips/2 ice creams and drinks for 2 adults + 2 children cost over €100, it reminds me more of an amusement park. Conclusion: instead of 6x/year, just 1-2x. It's a shame because the food and ambience are actually good.

The ambience itself is great, the service was very good. I'm not the kind of person who likes Mexican food, so it wasn't bad, but it wasn't really good for me either. Unfortunately, when there are a lot of people there it gets very loud, which makes it difficult to have a conversation. But overall it was pretty good.

Der Laden hat rein optisch die besten Jahre hinter sich. Auf dem Weg zu den Toiletten hat es extrem unangenehm gerochen, schwer zu sagen ob das aus der Küche oder einem defekten Abfluss kam. Das Essen mit Beef bestand hauptsächlich aus Paprika und Zwiebel die ziemlich matschig gegart waren. War mal sehr gut, die Zeiten sind aber vorbei.

Bei einem von uns war eine schabe im Essen. Darauf wurde zwar ein neues Essen geliefert aber auf Nachfrage ob den nicht ein Schnaps oder ähnliches ausgegeben wird für die eklige Situation wurde dies mit "wir haben Ihnen doch ein neues Essen gegeben" abgetan. Fand ich sehr eklig und dann auch noch unhöflich. Das Essen war so lala mal von der schabe abgesehen.

Ein ganz tolles Erlebnis, sowohl was das Essen angeht, als auch das Ambiente. Kann ich nur jedem empfehlen 👌. Einfach nur super!

Sooo leckeres Essen und tolle Cocktails. Trotz das es voll war, Servicepersonal ist nett und nicht gestresst.

Ein tolles Restaurant mit einem sehr schönen Ambiente. Wir waren gleich zwei Mal in unserem Kurztrip nach Augsburg dort. Die Speisen waren beide Male absolut lecker. Die Guacamole wird direkt ab Tisch zubereitet. Die Cocktails sind ebenfalls sehr zu empfehlen. Egal welchen wir probiert haben, jeder war äußerst schmackhaft. Und den Tequila de la Casa kann ich nur empfehlen. Selten so einen guten Tequila getrunken (ich hatte den mit Chili). Bei unseren Besuchen wurden wir freundlich und zuvorkommend bedient. Topp Service!

Alle Hauptgerichte, die wir drei bestellten, waren geschmacklich und optisch - das Auge isst mit! - in Ordnung. Service freundlich und ok. Etwas laut im Raum, aber das dürfte in Mexiko nicht anders sein 😉. Klares Manko dagegen bei den Cocktails: Geschmacklich unterdurchschnittlich, kaum Fruchtgeschmack (der schlechteste Strawberry Margherita ever!), zu viel Eis. Da trinke ich lieber ein Bier oder ein Glas Wein...

Das Essen ist richtig lecker, ebenso die vielen verschiedenen Cocktails. Nur - das Essen könnte etwas wärmer sein. Ansonsten alles top.

Gutes Essen und nettes Personal

Das Essen war ok,habe aber nach den guten Bewertungen gedacht es wäre besser. Die Portion was etwas klein für diesen Preis. Der Salat und der Reis als Beilage war ein Witz. Der komische Bohnenmus oder was es sein sollte war versalzen. Das beste war die Erdbeer Margarita, die Chips und Salsa sowie die Bedienungen. Wir werden bei unserem nächsten Augsburg Besuch nicht mehr dort essen.

Endlich mal ein mexikanisches Restaurant wo mein einen richtigen Cocktail bekommt, der nicht nur aus Eis und Saft besteht 😉👌🏻 das Essen war auch richtig lecker und der Service ebenfalls top. Zu bemängeln habe ich nur, dass es etwas kalt war. Ansonsten jederzeit gerne wieder

Gutes Restaurant in der Mitte Augsburgs. Der Biergarten liegt an einer großen Straße, ist aber schön dekoriert. Leider mussten wir sehr lange auf eine Bedienung warten. Vorallem das Zahlen hat sich dieses Mal ziemlich gezogen.

Wir waren 5 Personen. Unser Kellner war eine Wucht! Sehr aufmerksam, freundlich und zuvorkommend, nicht die kleinste Kleinigkeit war falsch, einfach perfekt. Getränke waren gekühlt und lecker, die alkoholfreien Cocktails super. Das Essen war so köstlich, wirklich alles. Am Ende war ziemlich was los und trotzdem haben wir weder auf das Essen, noch die Getränke oder am Schluss auf die Rechnung warten müssen. Danke für den tollen Abend 👍🏼

Fahren regelmäßig vom Allgäu aus nach Augsburg und da ist es bei uns schon Tradition, zu Joe Penas zu gehen. Jederzeit gerne wieder, einfach Klasse!

Sehr leckeres Mexikanisches Essen, leider finde ich die Portionen für den Preis relativ klein, würde mir etwas mehr wünschen und der Mais ist leider nicht gewürzt, ich finde es auch besser wenn der Käse gebacken ist und nicht der Rohe Reibekäse einfach über den Burrito. Das Personal am Empfang war absolut unfreundlich und null Kundeninteressiert. Wir haben uns kurz überlegt wieder zu gehen, bevor wir uns hinsetzen wollten.
