We ordered cod for €24.50 per portion, which was very tasty, but what surprised us most was the size of the portions. It was absolutely amazing: three large pieces of cod and a ton of fried potatoes. We highly recommend this place.

It's not easy to find, but highly recommended. The decor is reminiscent of a flea market, but it's still inviting and cozy. Everyone should be able to find something to their liking on the menu, and the prices are reasonable.

Everything was perfect until the bill: no electronic payments—it would be enough to point it out—and a tip isn't mandatory, but pretend it is. No English menu, no English-speaking staff, despite it being a tourist area and time of year. We had to read previous reviews to make sense of the waitress's sudden change in attitude, who avoided looking us in the face when we left without paying her extra. In short: payment restrictions, language barriers make it impossible to provide any advice on what to order: how do you justify this blessed tip of at least 10%? Excellent food, but a little more transparency would make the place a better place to remember.

No long wait for your food. Price...performance...great. I recommend bringing Tupperware, so you can put plenty on your plate, ideal for a really hungry person. Very friendly service. Discovering the abundance on the walls is like a museum, a tour of discovery...awesome. Always happy to come back.

Very friendly staff. The lady was very personable and had a good conversation. The seafood food was also delicious. There are various types of fish, but only a few meat dishes. I had eel, which was delicious. The rustic, historic ambiance is also great. You can spend ages looking at the wall decorations and discovering historical treasures. I will definitely come back and can only recommend the shop.

My girlfriend and I wanted to have lunch at the East Prussian Harbor Smokehouse today. I ordered creamed herring with fried potatoes. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes weren't fresh, and the creamed herring was so sour that I couldn't eat it. We told the waitress (a woman with a loud voice and a brown ponytail) that the seagulls sitting outside the door were loudly chased away with a broom... Get lost, you miserable bastards. We then paid, and the remaining money was thrown at us with the words, "You start your shift and then this happens straight away." (since we hadn't tipped). As we left the restaurant, someone called after us... "We should have more respect... these women are unacceptable." We like to tip... but we've never experienced such cheeky and loud service. The atmosphere in this quaint restaurant was, of course, very nice. We are two older ladies.

We had a great meal here. The service was very friendly and attentive. I recommend it to everyone!

We expected more from the food. Fried potatoes were too greasy and tasted of old fat. Pancakes were too hard and too greasy!!! Very bad food!!!

A very original shop. Cons: - I was actually just worried about some of the reviews about this shop. So we just behaved ourselves. Cons: - The interior decor is the best I've ever seen (even before the fishing boat next door). It's full of stuff that could fill a museum, with a small focus on GDR memorabilia. I could stand here and stare for hours. - They serve a flaming fisherman's spirit schnapps for €2.30 per sweet cup. It's really good and highly recommended! - The waitress was nice, which is completely different from the negative reviews here. So I suspect it was the customers in these cases. - I can't complain about the food at all. We had plaice and a farmer's breakfast with fried potatoes, and it was plentiful and everything was delicious. - Particularly good: The person at the next table asked, without being asked, whether the leftovers should be packed up. I think that's great, because sometimes you don't dare ask. Conclusion: I would say that you have to visit here when you leave Sassnitz.

The Labskaus was sensational. The waitress was courteous and very nice. The ambiance was pleasant. I'd go again. ❤️ To finish off, I received a warm hug.

A rustic and cozy fish restaurant, offering a small selection of dishes prepared and served with love and skill. A stop by is always worthwhile.

Unfortunately, a disappointing visit – only one star despite the good food. We had been looking forward to visiting this restaurant, especially because of a particular dish on the menu. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we discovered that this dish was no longer available – even though it was still on the menu. Since there were six of us traveling and we had just had breakfast, we only wanted a quick bite to eat. The service was initially very friendly, but as soon as we tried to place our order, the tone changed noticeably. We were told in a very rude manner that we were only allowed to order large dishes – after all, they have to make a profit here. After a brief discussion, we all decided to order large dishes, even though that wasn't our original plan. This, of course, led to significantly higher costs. At the end of the visit, we still left a tip of around €7. Instead of being happy about it, the waitress complained loudly and then sat down with two other guests to complain about what she considered to be a too-small tip – within earshot of us. Such behavior is completely unprofessional and seriously spoiled the overall impression. The food was good, but the service was unacceptable. Hence, unfortunately, only one star.

Hello, hello, The food at the Ostpreußische Hafenräucherei is delicious, and the portions are large and filling. The smokehouse offers some dishes on the menu that aren't actually available, such as smoked salmon, which wasn't announced beforehand, which was a real shame. We were also just planning to stop by for a quick bite to eat with six people, but three people at the table were refused a small portion of nuggets with fries because they were supposedly only kids' portions, and otherwise (the waitress said, "the place would have to close if they only gave adults small kids' portions"). After we were saddled with a large main course, we waited for our food. As described above, the food was delicious and the portions large. The waitress (black, long dark brown hair, glasses, smoky voice), who may also be the owner, was really friendly at first and immediately addressed everyone as "sweetheart" etc. The dogs were also taken care of. The people who had previously been sitting behind us left the room, and when new guests arrived, the waitress immediately addressed the guests with the phrase, "I hope you're not such a scum like the guests before you." This is when my bells rang for the first time: the couple behind us at the table were a friendly, older tourist couple who, as they said, were friendly. So I was shocked by such a statement from the waitress!!! There were six of us adults with two dogs. The bill was approximately €153, which was then rounded up to €160. The waitress's mood changed from super friendly and cordial to dismissive and antisocial. She left, loudly declaring, "That's ridiculous, then I might as well stop waiting tables and go back to my office job," and sat down at the next table with another customer to gossip about us. Apparently, a €7 tip wasn't enough for her. Which, in my opinion, is outrageous. Firstly, she had already forced larger portions on us, and secondly, a €7 tip is definitely enough for such a place and atmosphere. Thus, her behavior was more than intrusive and rude, and also extremely inappropriate. Apparently, her initially super-polite manner was just a little ploy to get as much tip as possible. Because you can't call such behavior friendly, it's just a big show to get money out of people's pockets. Truly sad, because if you like hearty food and large portions, you'll find it there, but bring enough tips, otherwise you'll be the next topic of gossip for the place. We won't eat there again, as such behavior is abysmal, and such waiters should definitely not be working there. You either love your job or you don't! The good woman should probably get back to an office job if possible. She's certainly better off there than with customer service.

Here, you'll be greeted and served with Nordic friendliness; you'll immediately feel at home. The food is fresh and truly delicious. The ambiance completes everything; I highly recommend it!

Mandatory visit at least once a year.

The food is very tasty and the portions are also very generous. The atmosphere was very nice at first, but took some getting used to. The waitress, who is probably also the owner, was very nice at first because she was probably hoping for a 10% tip. There were several of us adults with children, so the bill was very high. Card payments are not accepted. The waitress thought a 7 euro tip was clearly too little, and accordingly her mood changed in 0.01 seconds to a very negative one and she made it very clear verbally that she did not agree with the tip. She disappeared into the kitchen and was not seen again. We found this behavior more than cheeky and inappropriate and were very surprised that her initial friendliness was apparently only an act.

The service was fine. The decor looks great. Unfortunately, the main reason we were there wasn't nearly as nice. The food was way too salty. The plaice and the fried potatoes (soft and unfortunately not fried crispy) were extremely salty. There was a medium-length dark hair in the salad. Perhaps the person preparing the food (it can't have been a chef) should wear a hat when preparing the food. It's also very sad that card payments aren't possible.

Ordered fish and chips for two with a child, didn't finish it because it was too much. Not bad. The only thing is, you have to watch out so the seagulls don't take your food 😅

The restaurant is really nicely decorated - with a maritime atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was anything but adequate. At first the waitress was friendly, then she shouted across the entire restaurant that I should "stop playing with my phone" and "please eat faster" because she "didn't want to wait until 7 p.m. to get off work." Seriously ?? I had a call... As a school official, I was stunned... In my opinion, such behavior is neither professional nor customer-oriented. When we didn't tip, she made a demonstrative grimace and disappeared into the kitchen. Tipping - For what? For this impudence? Dinner was so ruined... A warning at the entrance - similar to 'Be careful, vicious dog' - would be helpful: 'Attention, unpredictable waitress - enter at your own risk.

Not fancy.... Thank God it's an old, rustic fish restaurant. I'm here every time I'm on Rügen!!! Despite traveling from Bakenberg or Göhren. Absolutely recommended! A dog is also welcome 😁!!! The service is also excellent!!! Friendly and not pretentious! Class!

We had a table reserved for December 25th, 2024 at 5 p.m. Walk past the restaurant 2 hours beforehand. It was still open then. Then we want to go out to eat at 5 p.m. and find ourselves in front of closed doors. Not exactly the fine English way.

The food was very good. The service, however, was absolutely complaining, whining, pushy and rude. She just rolled her eyes because we didn't tip enough, complained about other guests and didn't say goodbye. NOT recommended.

Today we had lunch with friends again. The food was very plentiful and tasty. The atmosphere was very friendly until payment. Since we didn't meet the 10% tip, we were fobbed off. This hit us hard and we were angry at such impudence. It's a shame, but we won't be seen here again.

Ideally, we go there once a year because my wife read about the harbor smokehouse in one of her books and we are always thrilled. The great quality, the unusual ambience and, above all, the great service draw us back again and again. The restaurant is a real Rügen original. There you wear your heart on your sleeve and give everything for your guests. Gladly again.

A quaint restaurant at the harbor with good home cooking, meat, fish and much more. We were warmly greeted with our dachshund girl Paula and our food requests were served quickly. A nice conversation with the waitress and good food remain in our memories of a beautiful day in Sassnitz. We would like more people to come to the restaurant and experience the unique atmosphere. A rustic restaurant that is unfortunately a bit in the second row but is absolutely worth walking the few extra meters. We were immediately warmly welcomed and our dog was immediately given water and later treats. The nice lady also moved the table closer to the bench especially for the children. The portions were very tasty and extremely plentiful. You don't go out hungry. We'd love to be here again!

This cozy, old spot has a lot of character—you can really feel the history in every corner. It’s been around for a while, and it shows in a charming way. They offer a good selection of North German fish dishes. A bit rough around the edges, but that’s what makes it beautiful!

Simply a cult pub, friendly landlady, welcoming, personable, loving towards our dogs and simply Nordic cool... Food very tasty, very large portion but top. As for the other reviews...honest tip is one of them.... If you don't like this Nordic style...stay there......

Perfect quality and very appealing preparation, therefore good (upscale) price-performance ratio. Best fish dishes at good prices

Unfortunately I can't rate the food because we were once again standing in front of a closed door or, like today, the door was closed in our faces at 5:26 p.m.! Two guests came out of the restaurant and said: "We were the last guests for today, there is nothing going on in the season"! When should I show up for dinner please when it's open until 7 p.m.! By the way, we were joined by two guests who were also very disappointed!

Food was okay so far, but be careful when paying, the service switches from friendly to snotty if she doesn't get enough tips, that kind of behavior isn't acceptable!!!!

Essen und Ambiente war gut und die Bedienung war bis dahin freundlich, obwohl man die Gäste nicht unbedingt mit freundschaftlichem Du anreden sollte. Was gar nicht geht, ist, dass die Dame mit dem gegebenen Trinkgeld nicht zufrieden war. Sie forderte!!!! 10 Prozent. Wir waren so perplex, dass wir der Forderung nachkamen. Wir waren wohl nicht die ersten Gäste, die diese Erfahrung machen durften. Auf einem anderen Portal schilderten Gäste ähnliche Erlebnisse.

Das Essen war reichlich und hat auch sehr gut geschmeckt, die Bedienung war bis zum Kassieren freundlich. Ein bisschen befremdlich fanden wir, dass man als Gast mit "Du" angesprochen wird und sich die Dame vom Service auch mal einfach mal so mit an den Tisch setzte. Wir hatten für drei Personen eine Rechnung von 74 € zu bezahlen, und ich legte ihr zunächst 76 € hin. Sie sah auf das Geld, und es passierte erst mal nichts. Ich legte dann erst 1 € dazu, da machte sie mich mit klaren Worten darauf aufmerksam, dass das aber nicht 10% Trinkgeld wären. Ich war so sprach- und handlungslos, dass ich 80 € hinlegte und das Portemonnaie dann aber zumachte. Wir hatten so etwas noch nie in einer Gaststätte erlebt. Zuvor hatten wir schon beobachtet, dass eine Kartenzahlung abgelehnt wurde, der Mann wurde zum Automaten geschickt, um Bargeld zu holen. Kartenzahlung ist ja ein übliches Zahlungsmittel wie Bargeld, und wenn eine Zahlungsart ausgeschlossen ist, dann müsste man doch wohl darauf hingewiesen werden, bevor ich was verzehre. Wir wissen jetzt, was in einer Gaststätte so passieren kann, und beim nächsten gleichen Vorfall würde ich die 2 € dann auch noch wegnehmen. Jedenfalls sind wir noch heute empört und fassungslos über son einen frechen Auftritt einer Bedienungskraft. Und ich glaube, dass der Firmeninhaber Bescheid weiß, denn es schrieben ja schon mehr Gäste über ihr Erlebnis diesbezüglich. Also nochmal gehen wir bestimmt nicht dahin..............., oder vielleicht doch, nur um der Servicekraft mal klarzumachen, was man muss........

We were looking for a nice place to eat and had a choice between this restaurant and the one next to it. Everyone knows about the local seagulls and how they can make the food unbearable. Now the waitress actually came outside to chase away a seagull and at the same time attract 10 others to feed it. Every table in the area became a danger zone and when we politely asked to stop feeding, we were responded with such an outrageous comment: "We should go home!" in the nastiest way... I've never experienced it. As locals we just shook our heads and left, as tourists I would more than avoid the restaurant. If you treat your customers like that, then a visit will never be worth it. Sorry

Very original fish restaurant with loving service. I recommend the plaice with fried potatoes, bring a good appetite, the portions are very large.

The smoked and cured fish plate is amazing. The fish cake is great as well. A taste of everything caught in the Baltic. Good place for a great lunch or dinner whilst on Rügen.

First of all, I can't understand the negative reviews. We received a very warm welcome and the food (plaice for my wife and children, Labskaus for me) was very tasty and plentiful. Thank you for the pleasant time, we will definitely come back.

Ate lunch here on a Saturday before going on the ferry. Stuck on the place because of the slightly odd name, and thought it was just the name of the place, but there were plenty of East Prussian dishes on the menu. I ate a Königsberger Klopse. But of course there are other things on the menu. The food was ok but perhaps did not fully correspond to the relatively high price level. Also worth noting that it is not possible to pay by card, only cash.

I can only recommend it to anyone who wants to eat well and plentifully. Also very friendly service.

When we reserved the table, we were warmly welcomed. The ladies were open and direct with their manner. Which suited us very well. The food was sufficient and the prices are reasonable. We also really liked the antique atmosphere. Definitely coming back.

Ambience itself pleasant. Only this unfriendly service cannot be beaten. Just because you just want to drink something and not eat, you get a “pfff” as a greeting. When you pay you are then asked "what did you say" and if you don't say anything and she doesn't get a tip, she becomes loudly derogatory and puts you down in front of all the guests. I have never experienced such unfriendly service in my entire life. You say goodbye with the words “don’t come back and don’t forget the rating on Google”. The nice lady has now received this. The other guests just shook their heads and wished us a nice day.

Quaint restaurant and excellent fish...plaice...eaten

The food was very good and very tasty. The waitress was also very friendly, until we obviously didn't tip her enough. We are still very shocked at how a person can transform/change within seconds. We are a family of five. Since the portions are very generous, we ordered 4 children's portions, a small salad and a soup. There was also a drink for everyone. When the bill came with €112.40, we were initially a bit shocked. Mind you, we had 4 children's portions. In terms of quantity, these were about half of a normal portion, but only cost a few euros less than a normal portion. But good. Since the lady had previously been very friendly to us, we gave her a contribution despite the unexpectedly high sum. From that moment on she became very abusive and expressed her displeasure about our tip not only in front of us but also in front of other guests. We've really never experienced anything like this! We are still very shocked at how this lady let herself go in front of us and the other guests. Hospitality and family friendly looks different!

Das Essen war sehr gut und sehr lecker. Die Bedienung war auch sehr freundlich, bis zu dem Moment, als wir ihr offensichtlich nicht genug Trinkgeld gaben. Wir sind immernoch sehr schockiert, wie sich ein Mensch innerhalb von Sekunden wandeln/verändern kann. Wir sind eine fünfköpfige Familie. Da die Portionen sehr reichlich ausfallen, bestellten wir 4 Kinderportionen, einen kleinen Salat und eine Suppe. Für jeden gab es auch noch ein Getränk dazu. Als dann die Rechnung mit 112,40€ kam, waren wir zunächst etwas schockiert. Wohlgemerkt, wir hatten 4 Kinderportionen. Diese waren von der Menge her etwa die Hälfte einer normalen Portionen, kosteten jedoch nur ein paar Euro weniger als eine normale Portion. Aber gut. Da die Dame zuvor sehr sehr freundlich zu uns war, gaben wir ihr trotz der unerwartet hohen Summe einen Obolus. Ab dem Moment wurde sie sehr ausfallend und äußerte ihren Unmut über unser Trinkgeld nicht nur vor uns, sondern auch vor anderen Gästen. So etwas haben wir wirklich noch nie erlebt! Wir sind immernoch sehr schockiert, wie sich diese Dame vor uns und den anderen Gästen hat gehen lassen. Gast- und familienfreundlich sieht anders aus!

Already closed at 5:50 p.m.!!! Telephone is switched off during the day. It used to be much better but there wasn't even a hint that it was closed early. All the displays that indicated it was open were still in front of the door.

When we came to the harbor smokehouse we were immediately greeted in a very friendly manner and were given a table straight away. The landlady was very attentive and very talkative. What we found to be very great. The fish soup was the best we have ever tasted. TOP food, TOP ambience and TOP landlady. Thanks for the great stay! :)

We ate there on June 9, 2024, it was fantastic. I was debating between eel and plaice. Unfortunately, I had already had bad experiences with eel and chose the plaice. To my great joy, a piece of eel was placed on my plate, which was absolutely perfect. I know I will seek out this extremely friendly team again on our next visit to the coast.Thank you S.H.

We found the host's aloof manner unpleasant. Without being asked, he sat down with us and talked. Before he finally brought the menu, he (strongly) recommended some dishes. When asked about the price, the information was nebulous. A little later he pointed out to us that he would also like a beer himself. In another restaurant we were warned about the innkeeper. Never again.

Actually a great restaurant....but unfortunately we found ourselves standing in front of closed doors after New Year's Eve despite having a reservation....they could have at least canceled or not accepted a reservation at all....Otherwise, every time we were there it was very good tasted....no idea what was going on that day....

Cozy restaurant, friendly service that responds to the guests' wishes. Had dinner there twice with friends on New Year's Eve. Just fine. Dog lovers are always welcome there. No thanks! Guys, stay away, there is plenty of choice in the immediate vicinity of this would-be restaurant. The food... We needed something to make up for it afterwards. The atmosphere takes a lot of getting used to. The operators are a bitter couple who vent their frustration to every guest who comes through the door about how unfair the people out there are to them. A little hint: Most of us go on vacation there and want to relax, not play therapist. In addition, the lady has no sense of social distance. Good woman, at least 1 meter would be decent. Card payment is not possible and small notes are preferred, otherwise the lady simply helps herself to the customer's money. For the first time ever, I can understand and confirm everything in the bad reviews. It doesn't happen often, but I don't recommend this place to ANYONE

We were there for the second time now. This time even 5 + 2 dogs. We were once again warmly welcomed and looked after (that's what makes eating out fun). From the landlady to the food to the ambience, it was a fantastic stay. We'll definitely be back!!! Very best regards Matthias

Super leckeres Essen. Sehr reichhaltig. Alle Speisen werden frisch zubereitet. Kann ich nur empfehlen. Das Essen ist sehr gut, allerdings ohne Schickimicki.

The opening times (online) are not correct at all. According to the waitress they are only open between 11am and 3pm. The atmosphere in the store is absolutely great. Decorated like a small museum. It's an old harbor bar, which you can also smell. The charm of the last 50 years is everywhere. The condition takes some getting used to. She's nice but a little too pushy. Sits right at your table and talks... A lot... You have to like it or not. What's not acceptable is that she vomits on other customers, that they give the wrong tip or have different eating habits. Unfortunately, the food wasn't convincing and it wasn't more than OK.

You feel good here when everything goes smoothly. For us it was similar to many others who didn't give a good rating. That didn't go well: there is no smoking time outside of the season. So no smoked fish - the name doesn't say it. But there was nothing about this on the map. But well, there is a choice. That was disappointing, but still not a problem. Only if you don't agree with the innkeeper (in our case it was about fried potatoes that didn't come as we were used to) then you quickly become the talk of the entire restaurant. A very unpleasant feeling that we didn't reward with a tip. The innkeeper then became insulting, even racist: "Go back where you came from." We'll do that and won't come back. For the sake of peace, we refrain from filing a complaint.

A great restaurant. Absolutely authentic, honest and good. If the landlady sits down at the table with you and has a chat with you... that can only be a good thing. Our special requests were also fulfilled as a matter of course. The food was fantastically tasty and really huge portions. Our dog wasn't left out either and was a welcome guest. We really felt very comfortable. And finally really full glasses! Thank you Kerstin for taking such great care of us. We will be back definitely!

Great as always. Great portions that fill everyone up at a reasonable price. The service always has a kind word or a little joke in store. The cuisine is excellent, super tasty. There is an incredible amount to discover in the East Prussian harbor smokehouse. Always my pleasure.

Eat good. Rich and rustic ambience. You feel like you're at home. Was there with his wife and children. I'd love to come back.
