Onkel Ben's Imbiss in Rostock

Why are cats locked up there? We walk past there almost every day with our dogs...and I keep wondering what the point is of keeping those two cats in an enclosure there...? Best wishes I'm far from causing harm with a review...-.-, but anyone who locks up animals (considering the way they're kept, etc., including their caregivers in hot weather, etc.) can't expect a good review from me, and if that's the only problem...then it doesn't even "deserve" a star. Just writing that the animals were previously free-roaming...is so questionable...perhaps they had owners??? A few meters away, a cat is also running free, as is the case throughout the entire residential area...and despite traffic, cats rarely have accidents (pretty clever)....even that doesn't justify an enclosure. "Species-appropriate"...just using that word...is a disgrace for these two young cats...and it looks like this small property is being built for animals...to be locked up... There's nothing "understandable" about it...

Found a place for a snack on Maps. When we got there, everything was closed and it didn't look inviting, even though it was marked as open.

At the end of Gehlsdorf, in a rather deserted area, you can find the best snack food in all of Rostock!

Great little place. Food was fun and the kids did enjoy it a lot. Must see when you are on your way to the ferry.

Our son really wanted to eat here for his birthday – and it was worth it again! Even though we live 35 km away, we're happy to drive that distance for such great service. They even got me gluten-free pasta – at no extra charge! Compared to many other restaurants, I've never had any digestive issues here, which shows how much attention is paid to absolute cleanliness when it comes to allergies or intolerances. Just let us know 1-2 days in advance (or even spontaneously on the day itself) and they'll take care of it immediately. You can taste the love and passion in the food. We're already really looking forward to our next visit!

We discovered the snack bar by chance. It had a very rustic, pleasant atmosphere, raised beds with fresh herbs and salad. The service was very friendly, and we enjoyed the food. The fries were delicious, as was the gravy. It seems to be an insider tip for lunch. We'd love to come back!

Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the food. We arrived five minutes after opening (without knowing the opening hours) and didn't get any more food, which is perfectly fine. However, the tone is telling and the unfriendly way we were told it was closed... we'll have to reconsider whether we'll come back to try the food.

We parked at a parking space about 1.5 km away. Eventually, we got hungry, so we went to a snack bar, which, according to Google, had very good reviews. When we got there, the owner was there, but he said he wouldn't be open in this weather. He offers food to eat in or takeaway. I don't know what his problem was, but I think it's just a matter of sales, which probably aren't as good in the rain. I'll avoid such places in the future, even when the sun is shining.

We were looking for fish rolls and instead we got a very tasty currywurst and fresh fries with home-made special sauce (yummy!), even though the shop was closing. Very friendly. Perfect cozy place to grab dinner/snack before boarding the ferry! (And doesn't feel like eating bad, expensive food there). Soon they will have great fish in (large) rolls again. Very nice conversation. They were even on MDR. Check it out!!

Good afternoon, we ordered a complete meal for Easter (roulades with red cabbage). The requirement was that it should be made completely gluten-free, as my girlfriend has a gluten intolerance and immediate consumption of gluten causes massive pain. The food tasted excellent. There were no incidents during digestion. In addition, more was prepared than actually agreed (at no extra charge, mind you). The man knows his craft. Thank you for the delicious food. We'd love to come back.

For a snack, high-quality food, fair price, cool location. Were on the way back from the ferry and were hungry... we weren't disappointed.

My colleague and I visited the snack bar during our lunch break. Fries and fried fish were ordered. At the time of the order the store was not very busy; a total of 6 people were there with us. The food came quite quickly, after 10 minutes we had the plates in front of us. The food was already deliciously prepared on the plate. The fried fish was shiny because it was so full of oil. The breading was also quite dark, but the fish in it wasn't cooked through, but was still completely watery, so it was really disgusting. I guess the fish was fried twice (there was no other option in that time), pre-fried once, and then heated again, and not even fried through. Overall, the food can be rated as poor because of the fried fish; I couldn't eat it and left it. The PL is therefore beneath all dignity, paying €8.50 for fries because the fish wasn't edible, with a bit of red cabbage with a dollop of Maj and Remo. The ambience is rustic and has something, but I went there to get my fill. That's why the overall rating is only one star. EDIT ANSWER: Hello Mr. Bens. I usually write a review once and state my reasons for my rating. This is an exception because your answer attacks me personally by accusing me of untruths. On the one hand, your assumption is that I would not be able to make a complaint on site. How do you come up with that? On the other hand, if you write, I would start a review with speculations about the preparation. You're looking at this wrong. The only reason for this rating is a darkly fried piece of fried fish that wasn't cooked through inside. I have already fried a lot of things and that is why I would like to assume that the fish was heated several times without being fried even once. How they managed it differently is probably your personal secret. And for your understanding, I would like to say that I would prefer to be fed for my money during my short lunch break.

I was there in February on the recommendation of two trainee colleagues. Ben is a really cool guy, casual, relaxed and just makes a likeable impression. The Currywurst Special for 8.50 euros tastes very tasty. Good sauce, crispy fries and beautifully garnished. I deduct 1 point because the tent was unfortunately not heated at the time we were there and I was quite cold, despite the blanket from the chest. I'll definitely come back and bring my husband with me. Thanks Ben!

We have been here several times now, both for lunch and for events with hearty, delicious food. Is really highly recommended, the operator(s) are very nice with a touch of Scandinavian & the food and drinks are really tasty here. Overall, the price/performance ratio is right and we had lovely evenings

We ordered a gluten-free meal for Christmas. Since the preparation is fundamentally special (special pans, gluten-free spices, etc.), there were no complaints. The rabbit and red cabbage were excellent. Thank you very much!

Uncle Ben's Snack Bar is certainly no ordinary snack bar. Quite the opposite. A charming location has been created here with great attention to detail. You can also park for free. Events take place regularly (Men's Day, Pentecost, barbecue events in the summer, Christmas dinner, New Year's Eve party) and there are different dishes for lunch every week. There are also classics such as burgers, currywurst, fried fish and many others every day alongside the lunch menu. The quality of the food is very good and the prices paid are more than reasonable. The owner prepares everything fresh and implements his ideas passionately. The few negative reviews here are completely out of place, do not reflect reality and have nothing to do with personal opinion, as it is simply not proportionate and not constructive. You should be happy that someone is so committed to gastronomy and humanity. There hasn't been anything original to offer in Dierkow, Toitenwinkel and Gehlsdorf for years. Therefore, you should simply support this passion project. More has been created here than just a standard snack bar. Family events (district festival/children's festival) are also planned for the summer. Fresh smoked fish is also offered in season. Where does all of this already exist in the area? 5 stars are more than deserved. Keep it up, keep being creative and above all stay healthy and be as authentic as you are. We arrived at closing time on Friday and were still served. Super friendly and the food was very tasty and attractively prepared. A little hidden or out of the way but it is absolutely worth the detour. We were absolutely thrilled by the ambience.

I was there for lunch with a colleague and once I picked up something to take home. But halelujah, despite my higher expectations, that was even more than that. The portion was very generous and the taste was to die for. It really felt like this when this was actually cooked with the one secret ingredient (salt... no love of course😂) Unfortunately my photo is gone, but you should take the fries with your burger. There are also 2 dips. One is Uncle Ben’s Dip… Boy, I would even dip it with gummy bears, it's that good!

We had the sausage goulash and turnip stew. The food was super delicious 🤤. If we happen to be in the area again and get hungry, we will definitely come to you.

There were two of us recently, the food was okay, although the fries were a bit wobbly (we had the Currywurst Special with fries) for the time we had to wait. The atmosphere is really nice, rustic and cozy but the service was really not good. Two employees were on site. The woman was quite nice but the uncle probably didn't think it was necessary to greet and say goodbye to his guests. A friendly “goodbye, have a nice evening” was followed by nothing and they said goodbye with their backs turned to you, which was a real shame. But that's the way it is, maybe once the NDR has visited you will be taken off.

Definitely worth a visit. I didn't feel like eating a burger patty from the deep fryer and instead used Currywurst Special. Highly recommended, the price is completely ok. for a snack. I think the rest of the prices are okay too. Rustic/maritime seating ambience. Not for everyone, I find it quite comfortable. The situation could be difficult for Ben, hopefully he holds up. I've only seen the NDR documentary so far and I think the snack is really great. I think shops like this and people like Benjamin are a great asset to society. Just a cool idea! It was great, the food was tasty, very important.

I really have to say a bratwurst and a burger patty don't belong in the deep fryer, they're not recommended in terms of taste. The burger was made with no love and the products were all convenience products. Unfortunately the shop owner also has longer hair and doesn't use a hair net which might not be the best idea. I hope in the future we will cook more ourselves and nothing will be made in the deep fryer except schnitzel and fries. I realize it's not a fancy restaurant, but you don't have to throw everything into the deep fryer just to make it quick.

Good and cheap buns, frozen meat, frozen fries, a slice of cheese without melting, just put it on the patty. In addition, it was overpriced at €4.50 for a 0.33l beer. So first of all: very nice location Unfortunately, the meal for a snack took a very long time (approx. 30-40 minutes). I had chicken nuggets and they were kind of rubbery, probably classic frozen ones. The fries were sticky. My friend had the rib burger and says he was full, but next time he would try currywurst.

The food is very tasty, there are also daily specials. I work nearby and eat at Ben's every day and I haven't been disappointed yet.

In an intersection in the middle of nowhere, old workshop parking lot in a type of industrial area, thanks to Google Maps we found this charming permanent type food truck. The owner spoke perfectly ok English and had several fast food dishes to choose from. The whole place was an experience, some chickens in an enclosure and very special decor. Very good choice to eat here also in terms of price, before boarding the ferry to Trelleborg. Check opening hours, a recommendation.

We spontaneously stopped at this snack bar while passing through. The ambience is very daring and experimental, but has a very charming flair and hides some surprises that can only be discovered upon closer inspection. The preparation of the food went quickly and we were informed about its completion via a digital guest radio information system. The food was okay but the taste was nothing special. (The schnitzel had a very neutral taste of nothing and the fries seemed to be fried in old fat). But the homemade dips were very tasty and a welcome change. Sanitary facilities were also available, clean and real cloth towels were provided for each guest.

I had read some of the good reviews before my visit. When I had something to do nearby, I took advantage of the opportunity myself. The whole ambience and the food have nothing to do with the classic snack bar that serves greasy bratwurst with fries and ketchup from a plastic bottle. The ambience is special and exudes its own character. However, I see the danger here that someone unfamiliar with the area will not notice that this is a catering establishment when driving past. I would retrofit a very clear sign. The food: The decision is not easy because it all sounds very tasty. I then took a burger (7.90 euros I think). At first you think that this price is pretty steep for a takeaway meal. But in retrospect you have to say: The burger 🍔 was really great. Really good and appropriate for the price. I'll go there again when the opportunity arises.

Ein "Imbiss" auf den wir durch Google stießen und vollends zufrieden waren. Die Location ist für die Gegebenheiten liebevoll gestaltet und die Qualität der Speisen war mega gut. Imbiss trifft das Erlebnis nicht auf den Punkt. Definitiv ein Ort den man nicht verpassen sollte in Rostock.

Coole Location mit leckerem Essen und netten Service - sehr zu empfehlen! Die maritime Ausstattung des phantasievoll gestalteten Biergartens (es ist trotz der Namensgebung kein einfacher Imbiss!) ist selbstgebaut und sehr originell, der Inhaber tritt entsprechend authentisch auf. Leckerer Burger mit Pommes und hauseigener Sauce, yummi... Das Gemüse (Tomaten, Gurken, Jalapenõs usw.) wird vor Ort selbst angebaut - Respekt! Insgesamt ein Volltreffer - hatte ich in Rostock- Gehlsdorf nicht unbedingt erwartet.
