The visit to Okinii in Essen was an experience in the truest sense of the word. When we arrived and went to our table, we immediately noticed the generally poor condition of the restaurant. The bench seats were badly worn and in one place the foam was sticking out of the seams. Arriving at our table, we immediately noticed that our seats were covered in crumbs. The grooves on the left and right were also filled with crumbs. When the neighboring table was cleared after the guests had left, the leftover food was simply left under the table. The ambience and music were more reminiscent of a cocktail bar than an Asian restaurant. Then the first order came: 16 of 20 dishes were brought. When we asked where the remaining four were, we were told that we hadn't ordered them - even though we had even taken screenshots of the order. Instead of simply handing over the missing dishes at an all you can eat event, there was a discussion first. The food itself was delicious, you can't complain about that. But we lost our appetite as we watched the table next door receive a small bowl of noodles. Apparently a noodle had fallen onto the tray. But instead of disposing of the noodle in the kitchen and cleaning the tray, they picked it up with their fingernails and put it back in the bowl - at the guests' table!! This reflected the overall impression of the place. We lost our appetite. When we were home and the ordering page's browser windows were still open, we watched as the next guests at our former table added their orders to the shopping cart. We were also able to continue to fill the shopping cart - even with paid food and drinks. This is a serious security problem in your system! Price/performance is not right here. For the price you expect not only good food, but also a clean restaurant. We don't eat there anymore and can't recommend it to anyone.

I understand the 4 star rating, but we still wanted to form our own opinion. I understand the concept but the implementation is a total flop. The service was so slow that we waited more than half an hour for the first round, which was only side dishes of salads. A lot of things weren't even brought and drinks arrived much later. With a dinner rounded up to €36 per person, you expect reasonable service. The taste was very tasty, which put us off, but I wouldn't come again.

Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with the decor and ambience of the restaurant. It's not really clean. The seating is very worn, as are the tables themselves. Some of the bowls on site were completely chipped. The card holders are sticky and old. The service staff wasn't unfriendly, but not really friendly either. Simply listless, exhausted. The food was good and tasty but I would choose another place next time. In my opinion the restaurant needs to be spruced up.

This is an update, I was just about to write a review and saw that I already left a review five years ago. At that time I was still completely enthusiastic and satisfied. That was me until recently. Of course, every now and then there is a bad day, a lack of staff, stress, something goes wrong, new employees in the kitchen, etc. But this visit increasingly annoys me. At first I thought it was all nice, but at some point we stopped eating out of disgust. We were treated unkindly when we asked for new glasses because they were greasy and dirty. Prices are labeled incorrectly, the quality of the food has deteriorated so much, the sushi was really ice cold, fresh from the fridge or something. The panko shrimp were fried so dark and the inside was just mush. And so much more. The restaurant was just so dirty, we had sauce on our pants. All the windows were greasy, the tables were sticky. We even said something twice - once about the glasses and once about the price - but the way they reacted meant we really didn't want to say anything again. I'm there often, but none of the staff today seemed familiar to me. Most of them were totally unfriendly and seemed really annoyed, somehow no one tried to make the guests feel comfortable. This is so annoying. We've now paid almost €160 between us, we're not full and we're wondering whether it might give us a stomach ache. Addendum: There was no response to the requested email to the info account. But that was to be expected, as you can already read in other reviews. It's great how criticism is handled here. Pretending and ignoring :)

Update after several visits: always happy. Location and food = top. Okinii food: We went to Okinii for the first time (as a couple) on Saturday, September 18th, 2021. For all you can eat lunch. A bit spoiled by the very good Düsseldorf "Japan" gastronomy, I was a bit skeptical. But I have to say that I really liked the concept, the Essen location and, most importantly, the food itself. First and foremost the various sushi and especially the buttery salmon nigiri on the wonderfully soft rice. We also enjoyed the Wakame Gunkan (sushi with seaweed). Only the fried vegetables weren't really my thing. But that's probably more of a matter of taste. It was a little difficult for me to communicate with the service, who were always friendly and committed, but because of the mouth and nose protection they were rarely immediately understandable and questions were always necessary. We'll be back. For dinner.

I wish I could write that we had a lovely dining experience at this establishment. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. This restaurant has about as much to do with Japanese cuisine as an elephant has to do with flying - absolutely nothing. The food got worse with each course and some of it couldn't be eaten because it was completely fermented. There is also the hygiene aspect: if several people ordered the same dish per round, it was simply served in a shared bowl. This is quite disgusting when you consider that this "restaurant" only offers wooden chopsticks for consumption and that is how you spread your saliva between each other. The service was extremely unfriendly and threw the bowls on the table. This is highly disrespectful to the guest. That wouldn't even happen to me at McDonald's. Once, never again.

At first it seemed good and the dishes were not bad at all, but my night was ruined a bit by the mismanagement regarding allergens. I had followed the list of allergens as it was on the menu but there were things that had allergens that were not indicated. When I mentioned that I have that allergy and that I also made sure not to eat foods that have those allergens, I still started to feel the effects of my allergy but first they told me that they don't work with that product but it turns out that they do and they weren't interested anymore. I paid for my things and before my chest could close any more I had to go home. The food wasn't bad but those who were in the restaurant on duty that day could be more attentive when it comes to those things.

Nice restaurant, food was freshly prepared and tasty, unfortunately the selection wasn't that big for the price. Service is friendly, but clearly understaffed. As soon as there are more customers, the service cannot keep up and items that were ordered in the first round arrive in the 5th round. Price performance is definitely not justified, we paid a total of €90 per person for 2 people with 1 drink each, so I expect more. Will not come here again in the future, experience was ok, not necessarily recommended.

Lots of choice for meat eaters, little for vegans. There are a few dishes, but there is a lack of choice, especially at dinner. Some dishes are prepared with milk, although this doesn't have to be the case - if you use alternatives (just soy sauce), vegans could also eat them. Staff is friendly, but ultimately just standard. Depends a lot on the individual. Recently, a PIN is no longer required for the ordering system. Scan the QR code and you're ready to go. It just seems that no one has taken into account that it works like that every time and everywhere. I can order food, drinks, etc. at any table from the comfort of my own home. People probably find running up the bill funny. Alternatively, I can order the bill or request service every 5 minutes. This needs to be adjusted immediately! Request a PIN again or issue one-time codes for the table.

Nice place, but unfortunately it feels more like a bar (due to the huge champagne shelf, the club sounds, and the blue-lit counter) than a sushi restaurant. You order your food with your phone (12 rounds and 8 bite-sized portions per person). Drinks unfortunately arrived quite a bit later than the first dishes, but the taste and appearance of the food made up for it. The price per person was definitely justified, but a drink included would have been nice. Still, we left the restaurant happily full 👍🏻😎

Unfortunately, I have to make my frustration known now. After we were completely convinced by the reviews, we unfortunately had to experience an absolute catastrophe on site. Out of 8 rounds, we stopped the whole thing after 3 rounds. Every round was incomplete. Despite repeated requests, not all of the dishes we ordered came. EVERYTHING was cold, which shocked us the most and both the fried rice and the udon noodles were completely tasteless. We have never been so frustrated and hungry after visiting a restaurant, especially since we weren't even there for a full hour because EVERYTHING was COLD and tasteless. We paid €85 for this. What was delivered to the table so carelessly this evening was a disgrace. 85€, you have to imagine that for an all you can eat where every round was incomplete, cold and tasteless. Then we just had enough. Thank you, but never ever again. That was an absolute lesson for us.

Extraordinary concept, orders are placed via mobile phone. You have 2 hours and can order 5 things from the menu per person every 15 minutes for eight rounds. Some specials cost extra, but a large part is included in the flat rate of 34.95 euros (Sundays and public holidays). Drinks are extra. It's not exactly cheap, but it's worth it. Staff super friendly, atmosphere very modern and cozy. The food is very tasty. Definitely try it out!!!

We were there without a reservation. We were greeted quickly but indifferently and given a table. The waiter who brought the drinks slammed them on the table and created a small puddle (the size of a dessert plate) on the table. No apology, let alone he went on to make it go away. Of the huge number of service staff, only one older lady was really friendly and helpful. The food was sometimes good, sometimes not. We had sushi with hard dried rice, but also some with very tasty fish. We also received some cold, actually warm food. I find it difficult to explain to guests that it is all you can eat at a fixed price and then to charge extra for certain items within the all you can eat menu without even mentioning this. The waiting times for the individual rounds were very long and sometimes incomplete. Despite repeated requests to the staff, some things were not done. The mix of all the products and those that have to be paid extra makes it very laborious and non-transparent for the guest. Some of the plastic dishes had broken off and were not visually attractive. It would also be nice not to get disposable chopsticks, but standard reusable ones. Ordering with my cell phone bothers me personally, because for me it has no place at the table when eating and you have to rely on having a smartphone. The employee who took our payment simply disappeared with the cash without a word. Was he changing? Count? Did he escape with the €100? You didn't know, and he obviously didn't want to say it. The restaurant is nicely furnished but not barrier-free. Some of the food and the ambience were positive. What was negative was the substandard service (except for the one waitress) and some of the food. Price-performance doesn't fit. We won't come back.

Words cannot describe it. Two people were there on Saturday. The food was so bland and not like the one on the menu (picture) how can you serve noodles like that? Is this really the standard like in the picture? I don't even want to talk about shrimp and other things. Rounds were mixed up and half were always missing. No round was completed. Very long wait until something came. We had to ask 7 times for napkins and mayo. After over an hour we finally received the things. This morning, had a lot of stomach problems. So I want my money back, the experience was so terrible! Otherwise I'll be forced to take legal action. The food and service are not worth 2 euros. rip off in Essen. Trip to Düsseldorf.

The food was delicious, especially the teriyaki meat is recommended. Even if you are a vegetarian, the menu costs 25 euros. We sat outside and it was nice that we had the choice between inside and outside. Sushi very cheap. I later received an email that the restaurant reported me as a no show, which I don't think is great. Some of the food was very dry and heavily fried. The selection and scope of the food was very limited. The path to the toilets was very poorly lit (go down the stairs). Service was very friendly, it was the first and last time we had been there.

When we were told, we were simply told the kitchen was already closed so they couldn't correct their mistake. After the dissatisfaction, we were then asked at the end why there was no tip. Not recommended. Portions are also very small.

Service ignored us for 15 minutes after we were brought to the place. The rice and noodles weren't even room temperature. Rice was overcooked. Dishes from the 3rd order came in the 6th round. So a good 30 minutes later. The waiter drops a plate and sauce splatters all over my partner's jacket and pocket. Nothing happened other than a hasty cleaning. No sorry, no compensation. Less than 10 minutes later, another or the same waiter drops the bottle on the floor and shards of glass hit us. No debt relief, just hasty removal.

I was there last week with my girlfriend. All you can eat unfortunately wasn't that good sushi and rice was sometimes still hard and the rice wasn't compact enough you can only order five things then you have to wait 13 minutes before you can order again it's far too long a shame great atmosphere but the food quality is lacking I've had better for less money and less waiting time and I still forgot something and sometimes our order wasn't even complete and at the end the dessert was missing something

I was there last night with my child. Everything was great until the bill came. Delicious food, fast service and very friendly. My child is 11 years old and was charged as an adult. That's not the problem, the invoice has been adjusted. However, it also says on the internet that adults pay €33.95 per person. The charge was €34.95. The MA went to ask again and came back with the explanation that it was wrong on the internet and that it had been costing €34.95 for a long time. She had already asked the manager about this during the first correction. And I just have to say, very unprofessional behavior from the manager. Firstly, come to the table yourself and secondly, we are talking about one euro here. And since there is only the online card, which is good, I think it would be accommodating and you are entitled to a euro discount on the online price. Especially since when I left the branch I overheard a conversation between the employee and the manager asking whether I had paid now. Yes, I paid, but I think it's just a matter of principle and it's a shame about the unprofessional behavior.

Were there today on Valentine's Day, the service was good enough, but you weren't informed if you ordered food that was no longer in stock. The quality of the sushi was really not good, neither the ingredients used nor the way the rolls were prepared. Several dishes were served in different configurations than what was shown in the pictures, e.g. there was suddenly a white sauce over the mushrooms and two different sushi rolls were missing a different ingredient. All in all we were full, but it has nothing to do with the Okinii where we ate until two years ago.

The food was good and met our expectations, but it came to the table in a mess and was no longer hot, so at some point we lost track of the orders. The salad from the first order was served when we were already at dessert. If two people ordered the same thing, it was served on one plate. The food was placed at the head of the table without saying a word and you had to guess who ordered what. The staff did not always respond to questions. We also don't like the fact that you have to use your own smartphone to place orders. Given the already high prices, the restaurant saves the cost of its own tablets. An obtrusive smell of chlorine came into the restaurant from the staircase that leads from the toilets to the restaurant. Overall a big disappointment, I won't be visiting there again.

I knew the Okinii from many previous visits to Düsseldorf and was convinced that I would have a nice evening with my reservation at the Okinii in Essen - by no means! You can clearly see here that a good name alone is not enough, but that every restaurant needs its own rating... We were there on time and were introduced to the customs (some of which were new to me). You have to use your own smartphone to order, no alternative was offered. I had ZERO reception in the restaurant and I couldn't connect to the WiFi either - luckily everything worked for my companion and so we were able to place our order. You only have two hours to place your orders (“all you can eat” for an impressive €34.90 per person!) and you can order up to four rounds with a maximum of 5 dishes each - so you have to stick with it if you want to be happy Eating money well... The drinks came quickly and the first meal was carelessly "slammed" onto the table as we passed. However, at NO time did the frequency of orders keep pace with the frequency of delivery. After about 45 minutes, we had only received 4-5 dishes and our drinks out of the 10 dishes we ordered in the first round, and we hadn't seen anything from the second order after over an hour. Calling for a service person twice (of course also via smartphone) was in vain. Only the third call was successful - but apparently criticism is not welcome, because when I asked the service about the lack of speed, they didn't make up for what had been missed and praise me for improvement, but rather I was asked IF I WANTED TO GO. I'm certainly not easily upset, but I've never experienced anything like that before! Soured by this impossible way of treating a guest, I left the restaurant without paying anything (for whatever) - I certainly won't get involved in a discussion in such a case! This store will definitely never see me again!

We felt like we were just waiting for the staff, the food and the drinks. We waited 15 minutes for someone to activate the all-you-can-eat card for us. The drinks took 45 minutes. We ended up leaving without everything we ordered being served to us. From the 35 euro all-you-can-eat menu you would expect more choice of dishes, especially sushi. Unfortunately you had to pay extra for the delicious and popular varieties.

When it comes, it's no longer warm. Can't recommend! Finally, after the defects were pointed out, the service staff indirectly asked us to leave. We left! Never again.

Tried this location for the first time. Unfortunately disappointed. You have to wait a long time for your order plus during 2 hours it was delivered wrong 3 times. The table to our left looked at each other like ey did we order this? then I saw that it was our order. A little later the table to our right exactly the same scenario. The servers run around like crazy and throw it somewhere. The tables are too close together so you have no privacy. The food was also too salty. Unfortunately it was also too stuffy in the restaurant so I was inclined to walk outside twice for fresh air.

Overall I liked it. What's particularly positive is the amount of rounds you can order with your cell phone. It's inexpensive for brunch, but the selection becomes limited after a few rounds if you don't like eating sushi. Unfortunately, many things, such as shrimp, were available for a fee (€2). It might be worth coming more in the evening. The food came quickly and the chicken teriyaki, spring rolls and edamame were particularly tasty. What was more negative was the dryness of the meat in the sushi or the lack of salt in the udon noodles.

We had an appointment here with friends today - our conclusion: Sorry, but good service can be different! After a good 35 minutes, the first 3 of the 20 appetizers we ordered arrived. This pace continued throughout the evening, with dessert in the 5th round being the cucumber and seaweed salad from the 1st round of orders. Some of the things we ordered were not delivered at all. We waited over 25 minutes for the second round of drinks. But the food was quite good. Unfortunately, the dishes were rarely cleared away, but the new food was placed between the dirty dishes. Only the service person Amelie was very friendly and helpful, unfortunately that wasn't the case for the other staff. It's a shame, but for about 50 euros (including 2 drinks) per person, we're used to something different.

A few weeks before my visit I was also in the Düsseldorf branch, which already set a very high standard. Nevertheless, I have to say that the branch did not disappoint me in any way. The food was tasty and fresh, but some of it arrived very late, so you lost track of what you had ordered. However, there is one big point that we probably won't go back to: thermal paper on food is not okay! The problem is probably a little out of context because people order a lot of small portions. These are printed in the kitchen on thermal paper and then placed directly on the food or partially tucked underneath (e.g. grilled skewers). The thermal paper is simply toxic and should not come into contact with food, especially greasy food. We asked the waiter about it before ordering and he assured us (=lied) that it wouldn't happen. Conclusion: good concept, but with deficiencies in implementation.

We are regular visitors to Okinii Essen and have always been satisfied so far. Ordered to take away for the first time today, unfortunately very disappointing. Can't be compared with the good quality you get in the restaurant - unfortunately we will never do it again. We also drove an extra 40 minutes each way because we thought that the meals we took with us were of the quality that we are normally used to. Overall very disappointed and frustrated.

Unfortunately, our experience at a meal with 16 people was extremely disappointing. There were two cases of gastrointestinal illnesses, and one person even had to be hospitalized. In addition, there was a chaotic organization: ordered dishes were sometimes not delivered at all or were delivered very late, which made the evening even more difficult. We strongly recommend checking food quality and operations at larger group events. Such incidents are unacceptable and require urgent improvement.

Unfortunately : Miso soup tastes too strong, hardly any tofu and no spring onions. Raw tuna, quite tough, not tender and cut too thick Inside-Out, there the rice was dried out both on the outside and the interface. This was the case for 3 out of 4 roles. So unfortunately it's not a fresh preparation, but rather produced in a "heap" that simply sat for too long. That just doesn't work at all. Then there is only the all-you-can-eat option. If you don't need it, you pay more than you consume. That's a shame, which is why another open option for the "small, quick hunger" would be better. The restaurant, on the other hand, is very nice and you feel very comfortable. The service is good and friendly 👍. But unfortunately service doesn't fill you up 😉. Conclusion: Unfortunately, I didn't get anything out of the visit, which is why I should come back. PS: I once prepared sushi in a small but high-quality sushi bar. Every sushi was made fresh 1:1 for each guest, which is why my standards are quite high and hardly any restaurant since then could have met such standards...😜

The food was excellent as always, even if we think it's a shame that the chicken wings were taken out of the range. Unfortunately the evening was disappointing due to the behavior of the head waiter. At 10:50 p.m. we were informed that the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes, which we respected and placed our final order. However, a large proportion of the food ordered did not arrive, even though paid products were delivered. It seemed like our order had been partially canceled. In addition, the food was placed carelessly on the table, which reinforced the impression of unappreciative service. When we asked for dessert we were immediately asked if we wanted to pay, which seemed very rude. We felt like we were thrown out, even though it says online that the kitchen is open until 11:30 p.m. Especially at a higher price level, I expect professional service and appreciative service until the official end. If the end of work is so stressful, a job without direct customer contact might be a better choice.

Service was ok, didnt have much experience with the service since its all ordered and handled on the app, initial waiter we spoke with was quite rude and condescending but beyond that rest of service was fine. Some of the dishes were really great and others were obviously straight from frozen into deep fryer and far from authentic, but still good experience considering the price and that it is a buffet style. If you enjoy japanese style food and want to try a variety of dishes without breaking the bank then id definitly recommend this.

The restaurant is located in downtown Essen and although it offers plenty of parking spaces, it also has a huge number of competitors, which makes finding a parking space difficult. We went out for dinner on Saturday evening and only found a place to park after half an hour of searching. The restaurant looks modern and clean. I sat well, but there is room for improvement here. The tables are small and since the concept is based on a lot of little things, that's quite a hindrance. The restaurant was well attended and since there were hardly any dividers, it was quite loud and bustling. The atmosphere is at canteen level. Most of the waiters were very attentive and cheerful. The prices are above average, both for food and drinks. Of the many little things I tasted, only one dish was actually not tasty. Everything else was between good and very good. I particularly liked the fish variations. A big point of criticism, I had the impression that as the number of rounds increased, the delivery speed decreased. After two hours we had completed 7 laps and that was more than enough. If we had wanted two more laps. However, delivery times have been very slow in the last hour. I can highly recommend the restaurant if you enjoy trying and varying as much as possible. We'll be back

Really very tasty food, everything we tried was high quality, fresh and tasted good. There was a large selection for people who eat meat and fish, but unfortunately not too much for vegetarians. But both tasted very good. The staff was really very friendly and explained everything to us right from the start. You have 2 hours, you can order a total of 8 rounds and we were allowed to order 5 dishes per round (with 2 people, a total of 10 dishes per round). You place orders via your cell phone. There is a QR code at the table and you are given the number/password right at the beginning. We found ordering via cell phone a bit of a shame, as people tend to use their cell phones that way. We liked the pictures that were included with each dish, so you could easily imagine the dishes. The majority of the dishes are included free of charge in the all-you-can-eat buffet, but you could order a few for a small additional charge. Since we were there a few minutes after opening, we received the food very quickly. After about an hour and more guests in the restaurant, we sometimes had to wait longer for the dishes. But this wasn't a problem for us. We also liked the atmosphere in the restaurant, we felt very comfortable there. Overall, you can really speak of high quality and delicious sushi, very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. We'd love to come back if we're in the area again!

The mega ambience of the shop, the great quality of the food here and the mega performance from Domenik are simply brilliant.
