Guys! I've been back for the first time since the renovation, and I'm so impressed! What a wonderful transformation! You can see that the new owners are also thinking about their customers' well-being! Now, Michael Krebs...which grill did you go to? The gyro prices here have stayed exactly the same! We had the all-inclusive gyro (gyros, fries, tzatziki, and salad) for €17! You should read before you badmouth others!

I was there today with my mom. I ordered two small fries with mayonnaise and ketchup, two chicken breasts, and a small salad. I paid almost €32 for it and realized when I got home that one of the fries was missing. That's a rip-off. I'll never go there again. For the price, it's pretty steep.

Update: Friday, October 3, 2025...: After the renovation and reopening (September 30, 2025), everything now seems much more "friendly." The bright colors and the slightly open design definitely make it more pleasant, in my opinion. See also the two pictures of the seating area. Accordingly, I'm increasing the previous 3 stars in Ambiente to a full 5 stars. ______________________ New review, from February 15, 2025 (after the change of ownership in early 2025)...: I can't understand the negative reviews from previous reviewers at all. I also find it extremely unfair, as a customer (and neighbor), to not even give a food and grill a few months' time, but to give it a "bad" rating in the very first few days after opening... Neither the portion size has changed, nor the tzatziki, nor the good (freshly prepared daily, by hand[!]) gyro meat. Since I always have my own preferences, I've attached sample pictures of two decent meat plates. All I can say is that the meat is super juicy and cooked through. Neither dry nor overly fatty. Absolutely right. To clarify: Only 3 stars for the "ambience." Nothing has changed here in a while. It's simple but clean. The latter is the most important thing for me. The restrooms, compared to many other food and grill establishments, were clean too. They provide soap and paper towels. But I don't expect a great atmosphere at a food and grill establishment anyway. That's what restaurants are for. The only other (Greek) grill I know of is Grill House 56 (closer to the main train station), where I can get decent gyro meat.

The food is truly delicious, and the portions are enormous. We drive two districts away because you can be sure you won't be disappointed. The owners are super nice, accommodating, and child-friendly. We're thrilled with the Oberbilker Grill.

Edit: Ambience rating up to 5 stars, looks great! Overall rating from 5 stars, now down to 1 star: prices have increased significantly since the renovations; the "old gyro plate" with a decent portion of the amazing tzatziki now costs me €22.50 🤣😂 bye bye... Edit: Used to be my regular spot, but I hardly ever visit anymore. Reason: After some initial difficulties with the new owners, it's settled in quite well; gyros are similarly good, fries are inconsistent (maybe the freshness of the fat is a bit soggy?). The high prices remain, but for me, the deciding factor in getting my gyros there again and again, despite the high prices, was the amazing tzatziki. And now, at the same high price, it's only available as a mini-batch... Meaning: if I want my gyro the way it used to be, I have to buy an extra portion of tzatziki – so we're moving towards €19 for a gyro plate, with somewhat fluctuating quality. And sorry, I'm out of there – and I'll get it from my other, not-quite-as-great (but not quite as good) chip shop, where I still pay under €10 for my gyro plate and my large bowl of salad. The price and the accompanying service I get are ruining my appetite. Old edit: after many years of 5 stars, now down one star due to the pricing. €13.50 for a gyro plate is really too much, when competitors, with similar quality (but not quite the perfect gyro taste), of the same size, are offering the whole thing around the corner for €4 cheaper – and they've also had to raise their prices several times. Something has changed there in the meantime (as of November 22). Another small criticism: the opening hours have not always been adhered to lately. I've experienced it several times now that they closed an hour earlier (or even earlier). Very annoying if that was your dinner plan and you drive there especially. -- Simply the best gyro in town... Nothing more to say 😁 Large portions...

Unfortunately, it's no longer comparable to the old Oberbilker Grill. The new owners are nice and really put in the effort. Occasionally, I treat myself to a currywurst with fries and mayo—and it was always top-notch here. They used to have a large, crispy currywurst, with the sauce spiced up with some awesome spice. Now you get a soggy sausage in a bland sauce. The fries were just as soggy, and they forgot to add salt to mine—the price was €7.50. The new owners put in the effort and are very nice, but the food isn't up to scratch anymore. Sin must taste sinfully good.

Once a cult favorite – now sadly disappointing I enjoyed visiting this grill for many years. It was known for its huge portions and delicious flavor – a real insider tip in the area. But since the change of ownership, a lot has unfortunately changed. The gyro, once spicy and juicy, is now completely flavorless. The currywurst barely tastes of anything, and my last attempt at a schnitzel was a disappointment: The texture was so odd that I seriously wondered whether it was mechanically separated meat or cheap, ready-made stuff from a wholesaler. In any case, it was absolutely inedible. What's a real shame: The new owners are incredibly friendly and helpful – top-notch people! But the quality of the food has declined significantly, and that's ultimately what matters. I'll therefore prefer to go to other snack bars in the future.

We ate there with my friends and we really enjoyed it. My grilled meat was delicious, and my friends' gyro pita was really tasty. It's definitely worth going there.

There were three of us there. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, as the owner had changed. We ate the gyro and were absolutely thrilled! The taste was just as amazing as before, spicy and juicy. Just as it should be. As for the portions, what can I say, simply amazing. We'll definitely be back.

We had already heard from friends that OBG is no longer recommended since the change of ownership, but we wanted to see for ourselves. As usual, we ordered a gyro plate with tzatziki and fries. Unfortunately, it wasn't what it used to be. The meat doesn't taste like it used to, but it's actually good. Unfortunately, the fries were quite rancid. We never used to get that! Tzatziki is no longer served on a separate plate, but goes directly onto the meat. The amount of tzatziki has decreased significantly, and unfortunately, the taste isn't what it used to. The owner (?) tends to engage in rather tiresome discussions about how all the recipes are the same as before. Unfortunately, that's not the case, in our opinion.

This used to be the best Greek grill in Düsseldorf, but unfortunately, after the change of ownership, not much of that remains. While the gyros used to be wonderfully seasoned, it now tastes almost bland. The same goes for the tzatziki. The portion sizes have shrunk considerably. Too bad, I'll have to find another grill.

I ordered Portion Gyros, a 10 euro dish. It tasted like Greek food, and I enjoyed it very much.

Visited this little restaurant by chance and it was a great coincidence because I had the best pita from them so far, it was first fried and then stuffed with gyros, salad and fries, it cost 8€, definitely worth the quantity, the meat and the great taste, I highly recommend it

I bought a gyros plate and a Greek-style gyros pita. Both extremely tasty 😋, and just as good as before the takeover. The gyros plate is extremely good, and a very very large portion. The ambience is ok as it is still a snack bar/grill. It's definitely enough to sit and eat in the house. The owner is very nice and I was able to try the gyros beforehand. Can't write anything bad ✍️, about the food.

If you leave hungry, it's your own fault. The gyro plate is really good – crispy meat, tasty fries, a generous portion. The taxi plate is also great. It's no wonder football fans sometimes stop by here; the walls are covered in memorabilia. The place has that honest, somewhat nostalgic charm from the 90s – reminds me a bit of the Eppendorfer Grillstation in Hamburg. The owners are super friendly and always good with a joke or two. A definite recommendation if you're in the south of Düsseldorf and really hungry. We were there on a Sunday at 5 p.m. It was consistently busy.

I ate at Oberbilker Grill with my kids today, and we all really enjoyed it. I love gyros and Greek cuisine in general, and I haven't eaten anything this good in a long time. I had tzatziki, coleslaw, farmer's salad, bifteki, and fries with mayo. Everything tasted absolutely delicious. The owners are very friendly and love children. They fulfilled my children's every wish. A definite heartfelt recommendation ❤️

I was here for the first time today! There are new owners and the food is absolutely amazing!!! The gyros are fresh and homemade and you can taste it. The farmer's salad and the fries are great. The food is worth the money and I can only recommend the snack bar.

The change of ownership really impacted quality. I wanna touch base with two main differences that made my experience not so pleasant. First and most importantly, GYROS. I took a Gyros pita, where gyros had dried out (slightly burned) and herbs didn’t stand out as it used to. Previous management had figured this out and the new one really need to work on this. It felt like they didn’t respect the primary ingredient. Second, please please do something with the Pita! We have a black and white transition from the old management, where deep fried pita was a common routine (which personally I am against) but the new management served me a pita without olive oil and undercooked. This felt like eating dough of bread. Please work on cooking it properly its the Alpha and Omega. Overall a lot of room for improvement, but the stuff was very friendly.

I always went there specifically for the gyro plate, since the new owner the portions have become smaller, the tzatziki bowl has shrunk to half at best, if not a third, and it wasn't even full, the fries weren't cooked properly, soggy and the gyro was no longer as tasty as it was from the previous owner. I won't be coming back any time soon! They were friendly, but the taste was always crucial and the portion of tzatziki was a joke!

Owner has changed. From my favorite place to one of the worst I know. Fries half raw and eating the wrong food packed. Unfortunately that was my last visit!

Best gyro ever Update: I have to stand up for the new owners. I've been there 4 times now and it tastes just as great as before. The portions are not smaller either. I don't know what the negative reviews are about. These people are probably sad about having to get used to new faces. In contrast to the old owners, the new owners are much friendlier.

Unfortunately, after the change of ownership, it is no longer what it used to be. The service was friendly and quick, but unfortunately the food was more than mediocre. The gyro was barely seasoned, some of the fries were floury on the inside and the tzatziki, which used to be the GOAT, is now just slightly salty yogurt. It used to be the best gyros place in the city, and people often drove all the way to Oberbilk to see it. Unfortunately nothing special today and no longer worth a visit.

I've known the snack bar since 2008 and have been going there 2-3 times a year since then. Today I discovered that the Greek family that was so dear to me and constantly insulting each other has given way to a new operator. I was shocked though. 🥺 How would my gyros pita, rolled, with coleslaw and tzatziki taste without onions? While the ancient Greeks made the pita so thick that it was always difficult to roll it, the new version was noticeably narrower. Never mind inflation and stuff. But is the taste unchanged? Unfortunately no, there was definitely not enough coleslaw for me, the gyros were grilled well but not as crispy as before, but less seasoned (I personally found the latter more pleasant), but it was missing that first small batch of fries in the middle and the second small batch of fries after being rolled up on top before being wrapped up on top. The ancient Greeks fried the pita bread until the dough had a certain firmness. Now the pita was much too soft and mushy for me. Tzatziki was good as before. Maybe there's something else going on. I'll come back again in the fall. What happened to the old owners? Sick, retirement, new snack? Maybe someone knows that?

I have to be honest and say that I have already eaten a lot of Greek dishes but here you get the best food in Düsseldorf. I would say that I ate here for the first time today and I am more than satisfied. It was damn tasty and the service was also great. I will come back Oberbilker Grill is highly recommended

Unfortunately, absolutely no recommendation anymore. We were wondering why the gyros were so strangely seasoned and didn't taste good and were already very dry, so we didn't know the food there. During our last visit we found out that the owners had changed and now the detour to Oberbilk is no longer worth it. The snack bar is no longer the snack bar it once was. Really sad such a gem to rock like this.... Make up your own mind. It no longer tastes good and the portions are smaller than before the change. We no longer recommend it

Pure catastrophe what this store has become after the change of operator. Portions are only half as much for the same price. Food is cold and no longer tasty. Staff gets in their own way and is completely disorganized, it hurts to watch. Never again, thank you.

Like many others here, I was initially deeply unsettled by the change in ownership. The Oberbilker Grill lives neither from the ambience nor from the service in the traditional sense, but above all from the food and the unmistakable charm that such a snack bar either has or does not have. For years I ate the gyro platter with tzatziki (to eat there) or the rolled gyro pita (to eat with) with great devotion and was very happy, especially of course with the quality of the gyro, which was both crispy and juicy, spicy but not overpowering. It was clear that it would not be easy to imitate this masterpiece. Unfortunately, you have to agree with the reviewers when they report that the new owners haven't succeeded yet. Contrary to many prophecies of doom, the portion size has not shrunk significantly. There was a little less tzatziki on the gyro plate than usual, but gyros, fries, onions and pepperoni were still piled dizzyingly high on the small plate. Also, contrary to what was reported here, my fries were completely fine and corresponded exactly to the old standard. The gyro, however, was significantly drier, but at the same time more leathery than crispy and also had a much less intense taste, although it was obviously similarly seasoned. This either raises concerns that the quality of the meat on the skewer has been compromised or that the method of preparation has changed. I think you shouldn't underestimate the challenges involved in making the skewer, seasoning, etc. Proper preparation may also be complicated because the meat logically cooks throughout the day without allowing it to dry out. That's why I'm hopeful that it's perhaps a matter of time before the old quality at least comes into sight. Of course the doubts remain.

Since the owner changed, I can't even give it one star - the meat smells and tastes old and also dry. This was never the case with the predecessor, not to mention the portions. They also have difficulties preparing things behind the counter. It's a real shame!!! So they are very friendly and make an effort.

Today, after a long time, I was back at my favorite Greek restaurant in Oberbilker Grill. Anyone can have negative reviews, but mine will be positive. Food - service - TOP! It was busy so it was worth eating there! Was also able to speak a few words to the new tenant - very, very friendly woman. I/we will definitely be coming back more regularly now. Important for all visitors! There has been a change of operator. Theo's usual food is no longer offered. The portions are now significantly smaller and unfortunately the taste is no longer convincing. This is no longer an “Oberbilker Grill”. Please change the name, it would be better for both customers and business. I'm sorry for the new owners, but I gave the takeaway three chances and unfortunately I was disappointed three times. Please rename the snack bar.

Unfortunately, a lot has changed since the change in ownership, and it is of course very difficult to pick up where the original Obigrill left off. The new owners are super friendly, no question about it, you just notice a lack of experience in dealing with orders, customers and the food on site. I think this is something that can still develop, but if it is not worked on promptly I can well imagine that some of the regular customers from before will no longer come back. I really hope that the shop will be like it was under the old owners. I would currently avoid the grill but will come back again in the summer to give it a second chance. So there's really nothing that can't be adapted, but more organization behind the counter is also urgently needed. We'll see what happens and see each other again in the summer.

Went to get food on January 4th, 2025. Unfortunately new owners brought food, it used to be a great snack bar, now it was a complete catastrophe, fries were cold, soggy and partly not cooked through, the gyros were dry, the meat was limp and had no seasoning. Chicken dry, limp skin and no taste, paper was soggy with fat. If we hadn't been so hungry, the food would have ended up in the trash. It's a shame they used to be regular customers and will never eat there again. 😠

We live almost next to the store and have been regular customers there since 2012. Something I didn't expect happened in mid-December. After a suspiciously long closure, suddenly an opening with completely different staff, everything inside looks like it used to, right down to the menu and the Fortuna flags. I felt like I was in a parallel universe. Unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviewers: the portions are smaller, prices are the same, but I also found the gyros to be less flavorful than before. I'll be honest, it's not a disaster, but there's no reason for me to eat my gyros here anymore. Very unfortunate.

Went to the Oberbilker Grill for the first time last weekend because of the many positive reviews and I can tell you: I wasn't disappointed! The staff was extremely friendly, the portions were huge and the preparation was very quick. I will definitely be back and am already looking forward to my next veggie pita!

Unfortunately there has been a change of ownership... The portions are halved compared to before, but the prices remain unchanged. Plus it tastes completely different. The gyro is simply not as seasoned as before. Small portion, little taste, high price. I have been a regular guest for over 20 years, even after the only change in ownership, also almost 20 years ago. Please rename the snack bar, because it is simply no longer THE “Oberbilker Grill”. I still wish the new owners all the best. A little tip, Theo asks about the seasoning for the gyros. Then keep the old portion sizes, taste and prices and it will work.

After changing operator I ate a Gyros Pita. Compared to the last visit, only half the price at the same price. Very disappointing, I needed another bag of chips afterwards. Previously unimaginable. We miss the old Oberbilker grill with a fair price-performance ratio. Otherwise it will be a difficult year 2025 for all of us!

The quality is great but unfortunately the size of the portions has become significantly smaller than the portions we have been used to for years. So far, two people have been well fed by the "gyros on the plate" with fries on the side. Now you should take two portions. But the price has remained the same. The salad has also changed and there are no pepperoni and cabbage with it... the gyros is now also seasoned with paprika. It's definitely still tasty. But after many years as a customer, the change is a real shame. Unfortunately there is a point deduction.

Since the new owners, the portion has shrunk to almost half. The gyro plate was almost an impossible challenge back then, but now I stay hungry after eating. Tzatziki is no longer available as standard. I moved to the north of Düsseldorf two years ago and have enjoyed making regular trips to the Oberbilker Grill ever since. I was sad to no longer have such a good gyros shop nearby...now I don't have to mourn the OB Grill anymore. Everything has its pros and cons.

Update December 13, 2024: the owner has changed. Same prices, smaller portions. Bag is out of pepperoni. Hardly any coleslaw left. Little tzatziki. Too bad. Only 2/5 left. Had a rolled pita for just under 5 euros. The portion was large, it was really well seasoned, had lots of meat and salad. The bread was also delicious! It just didn't stay rolled up. Can absolutely recommend the snack bar!

This is my absolute favorite shop and I drive half an hour here every time because I like it so much. BUT: as another reviewer pointed out, you're regularly stuck in front of a locked door. In 2024, why not simply adjust Google opening hours with just a few clicks?
