We had to wait a long time before we were allowed in, even though there was plenty of room available. The lady who helped us was unfriendly and curt. The young man, Bary, who helped us was very friendly! My son's order was wrong, but he resolved it quickly and neatly. Location is great! We were able to sit outside in the sun. Price is fine.

A typical German restaurant. It's obviously very touristy, but the food was delicious and the overall stay was nice. The staff was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere on the terrace was quite nice. It's a bit of a shame, however, that there are hardly any vegetarian dishes. A baked potato or something like that would be nice. People who follow a vegetarian diet or at least don't want to eat meat every day always have to resort to a salad because there is no adequate main course.

SAVE YOUR MONEY The food was subpar and not worth the price. The atmosphere was unpleasant, as a significant number of flies buzzed around while we were trying to enjoy our meal—I'd estimate around 20 of them. To make matters worse, the neighbouring table made jokes about us trying to shield our food from the flies. While I wouldn't necessarily classify their behaviour as racist, I will say that they ended up experiencing a more uncomfortable situation than we did due to the flies. We refuse to pay tips, yet the staff continue to ask us how much we would like to tip, despite us making it clear that we will not be leaving any gratuity.

It should be a nice evening with family. Unfortunately the food was cold, 3 out of 5 dishes. We let it go back, unfortunately only two came back. The missing food didn't come. After we asked, no one could explain it - the appetite was gone and so was the mood!! The service was outstanding. They really tried to save the evening - thank you for that. It wasn't successful - it's a shame I wanted to show my family “my” Berlin.

We celebrated my mother's 80th birthday at the Mutter Hoppe restaurant and it was just really nice. The atmosphere was so cozy and inviting, just right for a special occasion. The staff were particularly attentive and really made our evening enjoyable. Thank you very much Sasha. He made sure that the birthday child and all guests felt completely comfortable. The service was quick, friendly and extremely accommodating. The location itself is beautiful, with a lot of charm and a touch of Berlin history, which gave the evening a special touch. We couldn't have imagined a better choice for this special day. Many thanks to the entire team at Mutter Hoppe for an unforgettable evening. We will definitely come back and recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to celebrate a special occasion in an authentic and warm atmosphere.

A very good place to try local classics and delicious beer. Nice service. It is worth taking into account that the portions are large - for women, rather half. Fresh salads are served with the dishes. Atmospheric interior and garden. We will definitely come back here again.

Yesterday I was there for dinner with my colleagues to celebrate my retirement. Many thanks to Marcel, who served us very attentively throughout the evening, and to his colleague who supported him at times. All the food we chose (hock, knuckle of pork, veal liver, large mountain pine, rump steak, stuffed cabbage...) were also served with small special requests. Big thanks to the kitchen for that. It was a successful evening that also made my guests very happy. Thank you very, very much for that. It wasn't the first time I was there, Mother Hoppe is always on the agenda when I have visitors from "non-Berliners"; keep it up because I'll definitely be back.

Good restaurant where you can eat for a reasonable price. They are in a beautiful location and have special seasonal dishes. The staff occasionally need a heads up before you get their attention, but they work hard and are helpful. The food is of good quality and the size of the food is large.

Very racist place. Wish I read the reviews before regarding the service. If you aren't German, I'd recommend not going here. My partner and I received very poor service from the staff. The one staff member seemed to treat all the German speaking people with respect and care but was very rude and neglectful toward us. I'd understand if it was a small German town, but this is Berlin. Would advice those rude staff members to seek employment elsewhere if they're xenophobic. We left early.

If you are looking for a typical old Berlin restaurant in Berlin, you have come to the right place. We celebrated our wedding there and are extremely satisfied. The staff was super nice, the food was really tasty (large portions) and the location was really great. Have nothing to complain about and can really recommend it.

Just good German food for a good price.

After our tour through Berlin yesterday, we were guests here and went home absolutely satisfied and full. We got a place quickly and were immediately recognized as people from the Lower Rhine (for whatever reason). We were served friendly and really quickly. We couldn't find any defects. The food was great, the service was great! The toilets are absolutely clean. We can definitely recommend the restaurant!

We ordered a pork knuckle and a veal schnitzel, as these were the house specialties. The pork knuckle had a really good flavor combined with the sauerkraut. The schnitzel, however, was a bit dry and lacked some spices, but it still tasted good. The staff was a bit overwhelmed because other guests who arrived later got their food earlier than us. The price, however, is the main reason for only 4 stars instead of 5, €5.50 for a 0.4L Pepsi and €3.00 for a 0.2L Sprite is really excessive. All in all it was €52.30. Slightly higher price but considering the food it's okay. But still the prices for the drinks are unreasonable :(

Great service, excellent food, central location

The food was okay to quite good depending on the dish. Portions were large. The service was horrendous. We were forgotten about and then they tried to charge us for a bottle of water that we were never brought. Also it genuinely seemed like our waiter was high. He made a jerking off motion while taking my order, questioned our age, made a comment about our nationality then mocked us.

You can have a great lunch here! Beers taste very good.

Eine rassistische Schande für Berlin. I will write the rest of my review in English so that future visitors can best comprehend and decide to avoid. I came here with friends, asked to be seated in the terrace and were provided a table beside a group of people we can say were not German. A somewhat older waiter, with dark short hair, treated them with no respect! He came to our table, served us with a smile, but for these people of Asian descent it was shameful - ignoring their requests, serving them after us even though they were sat well before our group, smirking and huffing at us when he finally spoke to them as if we would want to take part in his game. It is tragic to see such outdated attitudes - in the centre of our beautiful city no less! Der Kunde ist König? Not here! It is irrelevant where people come from, they are paying for service as well as food and should be treated with basic decency at minimum.

Yesterday I had dinner at Mother Hoppe's as part of a conference. Great home-style cooking. Only the asparagus cream soup was a little generously salted. The cheese plate and main course were excellent. The staff were attentive and friendly. We sat outside and enjoyed the good ambience.

A traditional German cuisine! ..basically everything was perfect - the service was friendly but a bit overwhelmed! Food was always missing or they forgot it! Because of the European Championships, there is a lot going on everywhere and you might not be able to cope with it all that well here! However, the food was delicious and the quality was right! All in all, definitely worth a visit - with a little patience it will be a pleasant visit!

For years it has been the best address for us when guests like hearty German food. We recommend that you make a reservation directly via email from the restaurant and will be answered the next day at the latest. You can always expect very friendly, attentive staff and always good food. Because of the nice atmosphere, I recommend accessing the area downstairs via stairs. The outdoor area in the warm months can also be visited by people with walking difficulties.

We entered a little doubtful, not seeing anyone sitting, but our hunger convinced us. We were pleasantly surprised by the venue, which is located in the basement: BEAUTIFUL! Wide variety of dishes. I didn't like the soups so much (try the potato and pea soups), but the duck was excellent. Also tasted the liver, overcooked for me but he was very satisfied with it. The spinach gnocchi (which look more like 2 meatballs) were also good. Friendly staff who speak very little English, but make an effort to make themselves understood. It's a solid three stars from me. You can see the renovation work in the store, especially in the toilets. The tiles there are really chic. We had booked a table on the terrace, it was clean, comfortable and had a good feel-good factor. The service was unobtrusive and attentive, just as we like it. Only the food itself couldn't really keep up. It was OK, you could eat it but I think it could be done better. German cuisine is so incredibly diverse and delicious, it's a shame that it doesn't get the respect it deserves in the kitchen here at Mutter Hoppe.

Food is very very good. Pickled knuckle is very tender and well seasoned. Veal liver is the best liver I have ever tasted. Of course it is quite gamey. But if you enjoy eating liver this would probably be one of the best you have ever tasted. The vibe is very cool. Service can be improved as they are definitely under-staffed. We went on a Sunday night at 9pm. Not very packed but waiters were running here and there. Took us 30 minutes to have a waiter come and take our order despite 3-4 times having signalled they would take our order in a second. However, the waiter did apologise and said tonight was very busy when he finally came to take our order.

Probably one of the worst meals I've had anywhere. I ordered a veal schnitzel. It was a piece of old leather and the fried potates that accompanied it were greasy and luke warm. I couldn't eat any of it. My kids ordered curry wurst - also awful. The chips tasted like they were a week old and reheated in a microwave. The waiter noticed we hadn't eaten much and didn't even bother to ask if everything was ok. I really would not recommend this place.

No idea about the food, but the term beer garden is out of place here. Wait 15 minutes until a waitress comes and then another 20 minutes until my request to pay is taken into account. Very slow but friendly staff. The beer was pretty good though.

A pearl in Berlin. I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation and am absolutely thrilled. Cozy atmosphere, service very attentive, courteous, simply great. The giant cabbage roulade tasted very good. Anyone who likes German cuisine will find something on the menu. I felt very comfortable and will definitely come back.

The staff are extremely helpful but unfortunately we are not there when it comes to the food. I don't like writing negative reviews but this time I have to, we had dinner here the other night and the photo below is my dish chosen from the "specialties" of the place. The meat, at least the cooked part, tasted like boiled meat and lacked salt, it was accompanied by mashed peas, sauerkraut (full of curry and unfortunately inedible) and boiled potatoes. The main problem wasn't so much the lack of salt in the meat or too many spices, but the top which wasn't raw but I don't know how to describe or define it (I think the photo speaks for itself). The appetizer was good. We were convinced by the numerous positive reviews and I'm sorry I couldn't leave an equally positive one, maybe we just had bad luck in choosing the dish, maybe not. I wouldn't go back.

We were able to spontaneously reserve a table for the same evening. The lady on the phone was just as friendly as the gentleman in service, who kindly pointed out to us that there was a lot going on in the restaurant and that the meal might take a while. We were therefore amazed at how quickly we received our food. The food (beef roulade) was very tasty and special requests were taken into account. If you like German cuisine or want to try it out, we can highly recommend this restaurant! ☺️

25 minute waiting for someone to give us a menu!

A wonderfully rustic restaurant in the heart of Berlin, the Nikolaiviertel. The ambience creates a wonderfully nostalgic feeling, the service, despite our spontaneous visit at lunchtime on December 25th, was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. Previous visits here also left the same impression. Larger celebration groups were also no problem, with the appropriate reservations of course.

It's best if you go somewhere else, otherwise I won't get any more space.

Today we went here for dinner twice in 7 days. There were no criticisms or defects on our first visit. What really surprised us was that we still received a nice corner despite making a reservation at short notice. As always, the service staff was very friendly and responded to our requests very professionally. The price-performance ratio is consistent in all components. Boiled pig's feet are marinated and then cooked. They are much tenderer than roasted ones. One problem is that the fishy smell of the pork is a bit strong. I finished it with beer and sauerkraut. The crispy duck is quite dry, but it’s okay to eat with the meat sauce. The outer layer is very fragrant.

Bad service. Super slow and forgetting your order all the time. We have spent 2 hours inside on Saturday and for almost every thing what we have ordered we had to ask 2-3 times. When your not able to take the orders take a note!

We had made a reservation at short notice, the ambience in the “cellar” was exceptional… service was very nice and attentive. Our 4 dishes were all top and very tasty, especially the salad dressing 😉
