Mutter Hoppe is one of my favorite places to eat when I'm in Berlin. This quaint lower level restaurant has fun decor, excellent service and great food!

A place in the very center of Berlin, in the Nikolai-Viertel district. Guesthouse Muttahope is the perfect place to be when it's raining, windy, or cold outside. Downstairs, there's a large room where you completely forget about the hustle and bustle outside. The atmosphere is very cozy: soft music plays, the smell of delicious food fills the air, and they serve excellent coffee. The waiters are quick and polite, and everything is organized without rushing, in true German style. It's a pleasant place to just sit, relax, and experience true Berlin comfort. I definitely recommend it!

It's always a pleasure to be a guest there. We always come in a large group and are always served and cared for very well. I can't say anything negative about the food. The price, taste, and quality are all very good. We've never been disappointed here. It's advisable to reserve a table in advance. December 2024 was soooo beautiful again, and we've already made a reservation for 2025... The renovation was very successful... 👍🏻 Many heartfelt ♥️ thanks to the entire team... 🫶🏼

We arrived on Sunday lunchtime without a reservation, just wanting to try it out, and were very pleasantly surprised. It was packed, but the super-friendly staff made everything possible. The food and drinks were excellent, and the staff deserve special mention. Despite the stress, they really enjoy their work and make guests feel very welcome. We found the price-performance ratio to be perfectly acceptable. One of our new regular restaurants in Berlin.

We were in Berlin for three days through the Federal Press Office when I discovered this lovely restaurant. Our last-minute reservation for 17 people went perfectly and the staff were incredibly friendly. The welcome and the entire service were just as friendly as the phone call. A separate room was reserved for us. Thanks again for that. The drinks arrived very quickly, as did the delicious food. Everything was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, our hotel was evacuated due to a bomb being discovered nearby. Unfortunately, we had to leave the restaurant early because of this; otherwise, we would have stayed much longer. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Berlin. Keep up the great work.

Great food and tourist-friendly staff!

On our city tour through Berlin, we happened to stop there during a thunderstorm, and we were very pleasantly surprised. The service was very friendly and accommodating. They tried to accommodate our requests. ☺️ We had a delicious lunch there, and we didn't pay much for the time we spent. The restrooms were also very clean. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bite to eat in Berlin.

If you visit Berlin and want to try different local flavors, this is definitely a restaurant you should stop by. The duck meat was amazing, I highly recommend trying it. You might need to make a reservation in advance, but we managed to find a spot at the bar. I’m definitely planning to visit again when I’m back in Berlin.

A very nice restaurant with friendly service, and the food is truly delicious. What's unacceptable is that an employee (my partner's sister) forbids you from entering the restaurant, just because she works in the kitchen. This is detrimental to the business. Four of us went there and left quite a bit of money. Sorry to the restaurant owner, as soon as I'm back in Berlin, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

A kitchen at the top of their game. No dibby-dabby blobs from a squeezy bottle here, Good honest cooking with excellent ingredients. A half a duck cooked to perfection; crispy skin on the outside and tender juicy meat below. Could not be bettered. Served with generous portion of potatoes and cabbage, I couldn't finish it, but the assiduous and charming waiter brought a custom-made doggy bag. It would have been better to have had this dish with wine rather than the beer ( which was excellent) that I ordered. Wish we had a restaurant this good in London.

We had an exquisite experience with both the food and service. It was our first time trying German cuisine, and we didn't have any prior expectations, but we absolutely loved it. Every dish was delicious and reasonably priced, and the beer was refreshing. During our visit in August, we sat outdoors, and the bees were quite bothersome.

We ate here again, and the food was really good, as always! But this time the young, blonde waiter was amazing, friendly, accommodating, and in a great mood. We'll definitely be back. Thanks to the entire team.

A cozy "Berlin restaurant" with a rustic ambiance. "Food like mom made" is a top priority here. Everyone will find something delicious here. Thanks to the entire team for the excellent service. Unfortunately, the red cabbage loses a star. It was too clove-like and had too much allspice for my taste, but that made up for the delicious duck. We had a wonderful time at Mutter Hoppe's and can highly recommend her.

We were there for lunch! We wanted good Berlin cuisine, and you can get plenty of it here! We had the currywurst and the bratklops! Both were delicious and freshly prepared! The server was very friendly and served us promptly! We sat on the terrace, which was very pleasant. We'd love to come back :-)

Typical Berlin food... maybe... I think more of a tourist menu. The pea soup was chosen, and it arrived with sausages and bacon bits inside... greasy and smelling unappetizing, left untouched and no one asked why. Fast service and a nice location. Tipping seems mandatory, but it's up to the customer to evaluate the staff's performance.

Had the Berlin Pickled ham hock. Enough food for two or one VERY hungry person. It was really good.

Good quality food but with a serious problem: we ordered two dishes to share, it took a little over half an hour to serve them and they both arrived together.

Food was terrible - don’t go here. It’s a tourist trap. They say they have great German fare but it’s terribly prepared. Only thing that tasted decent was the mashed potato and French fries. The sausages were ok but felt store bought. The Berlin pork was horrible - also felt undercooked. When we asked them if they can take a look and fix it, they refused immediately. Service was terrible and we had to remind them to bring our water several times. Only got the water after we paid. The pork ribs were not seasoned and again tasted very basic. Regret wasting an afternoon here - only thing good was the ambience facing the street.

Excellent service! We were absolutely thrilled with the service! The waitress (the blond young man) was extremely friendly, attentive, and warm – we felt welcome from the very first moment. He always had a smile on his face, was quick to help without being intrusive, and always had an open ear for us. He even saved us from the wasps :) The manager can truly count himself very lucky to have such a dedicated employee. Thank you for the lovely lunch – we'll be happy to come back!

We stopped by in the evening for a nightcap. We were served by an attentive and friendly employee (Marcel), who also gave us drink recommendations. It was a lovely time with good drinks and fun conversations.

A tourist trap to be avoided at all costs! Excessive wait times to be seated, lukewarm, off-carbonated beer marketed as a local specialty, and meals comparable to those in a cafeteria.

So, folks, we were at Mutter Hoppe in Berlin – and let me tell you: you're in good hands. The welcome was friendly, the service wasn't just as quick as Schmitz's cat, but also really well-spoken; she could talk a lot, it was savvy. The tables were tidy, you could sit down at them and say straight away: "It's a great place to live." Okay, the wasps – oh well, they just want to live. "If you have animals, you have trouble," as my grandpa always said. Ordering went like clockwork, many others could learn a thing or two from that. And then the food, friends of the night: I was initially concerned about the portion size, but: all's well that ends well. A meatball the size of a beer mat, a fried egg on top, fried potatoes, and then two mushrooms that were so stuffed you couldn't even fit a toothpick in them. And then my knuckle of pork – boy, that thing weighed more than my portable radio from back then. Crispy pork rind and fried potatoes – only the sauerkraut was a bit scarce, but hey, you can't always be lucky. The bottom line: top value, great atmosphere, amazing food – you can't complain. As we say here: "You go in like a stranger and come out like a buddy." Berlin, we'll be back!

We spent a few days in Berlin and a friend recommended it to us. A complete success. The waiters and waitresses are very friendly, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is pleasant. We came to try the pork knuckle and it didn't disappoint. It was delicious. The apple strudel with ice cream was also delicious. So, everything was great, although a bit slow, but it gave us a little rest...

Update 2025: Now we have schnitzel and roulade as excellent "home cooking." 2021: You have to like it. Knuckle of pork and pork knuckle aren't really my thing, but if you like them, you'll definitely be impressed.

The food isn't good; I've had better. It's impossible to eat outside, there are so many wasps, bees, and mosquitoes. In the summer, you eat like you're in a sauna, not in an air-conditioned environment. The only positive aspect was the waiter, who was very attentive and polite.

Worst experience in Berlin! I arrived at 6:00 PM and was not allowed to sit inside. I ordered the signature pork knuckle and tomato salad. It tasted okay, about the same as frozen pork knuckle from Hong Kong. As soon as the food arrived, flies were everywhere (the picture shows a fly flying right after I put down my knife and fork). I had to swat them away with my knife and fork. Didn't the restaurant know there were so many flies? Why wouldn't they let me sit inside if they knew?! I wanted to leave quickly, so I asked the waiter for the bill, but it took almost 10 minutes! Why? They were busy serving other German-speaking customers (and the tipping screen on the checkout machine was in German, with no explanation of what the buttons meant). Unless you want to eat with flies or wait 10 minutes for the bill, avoid this restaurant! Especially if you don't speak German. Typical German restaurant. Everything is very good. A bit pricey for the amount served. I also didn't give it 5 stars because the habit of tipping at the machine at checkout seems aggressive.

A very cool restaurant close to the main tourist attractions, yet very quiet. Without a doubt, the best currywurst we've tried in the city. The waiters who served us were also very friendly.

Took at least 25 min to prepare the order and bring the order. The food wasn't fresh at all! The outdoor place was quite compact and tables and chairs are super close to each other so that if one person is passing by, they can bump to others. They should ban smoking in the outdoor because it creates an uncomfortable and unbreathable environment for others who are eating! Staff weren't friendly at all, zero smile! Yet they expected you to pay tips!

The roasted and boiled pork knuckles were both good, and the duck breast was also delicious. Three dishes were perfect for four people! The beer was good, but I don't know how they calculated the service charge... I chose 5% when I paid by card, but the final bill was 13%...

Amazing Currywurst and appleshtruden

For dinner, six of us found a table right inside. The location is fairly typical, without being overly elaborate, with both indoor and outdoor areas. We ordered traditional dishes like braised pork kruckle with potatoes, and other dishes including sausage and French fries. Service was generally a bit slow, but still on time. The staff was helpful and attentive. The price was around €30, including local beers. All in all, we appreciated it.

If you’re a vegetarian looking for some German cuisine, this place might be worth checking out. They had some delicious dumplings in mushroom sauce, spinach gratin (though it was a bit too spinachy), and spiced vegetable, which was very tasty. You can also try their authentic German fruity beer. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Berlin TV Tower. Overall, the experience was pleasant, and the food was decent.

We ate at "Mutter Hoppe" yesterday and chose it because of its great location. We were served by an extremely courteous gentleman, and the food was excellent. We had the salmon and the steak with spiced meat. Because that was already so great, we also had the apple strudel 😁 Unfortunately, we're not from Berlin, otherwise we'd probably be regulars. But we'll be back on our next visit!

Very good pork knuckle restaurant, both types of pork knuckles are cooked to perfection. In addition, the grilled meat platter and schnitzel are both good choices to order. The only downside is that the outdoor seats are a bit flyy.

The food was average — the pork steak was unsalted and quite tough. However, the Kartoffeln Salat was very good!

There was an old woman with a terrible attitude. She even asked for tips when checking out. The problem is that she didn't provide any service from beginning to end. It's ridiculous!

You can immediately tell that the employees love their job and are passionate about it. The evening at Gasthaus Mutter Hoppe was by far the best of our stay in Berlin. It’s my first time in Berlin, so I like to eat the most famous food and drinks here! Famous pork knuckle and Berlin beer! Pork knuckle tastes good, I like the crispy skin, and the fat underneath, it’s full of collagen! Matching this with Sauerkraut is very good And a glass of beer!
