Meson Alegria in Wuppertal

The food was incredibly delicious!! A welcome change from the ever-increasing number of kebabs and other fast food options, this little gem offers such delectable Spanish cuisine. It was a true delight for the palate. Fantastic tapas, and I've rarely tasted such a delicious aioli dip. From dates wrapped in bacon to beef in a whisky cream sauce. Reservations are highly recommended; the restaurant is always fully booked!! Excellent service too – absolutely recommended!

We went to Meson Alegria in Wuppertal, just the two of us. For Wuppertal, it's really quite good – the food is well-prepared and tastes delicious. A bit heavy on the cream, but still very enjoyable. The prices are a little high, but still in line with what you get. All in all, a nice restaurant for a cozy meal for two.

No matter what you order here, everything is delicious. Family-run business. The owner, his wife, and sometimes his son are among those who serve. The wine, and especially the Cardenal Mendoza to finish, are also delicious.

It wasn't good. The waiters tried hard, but kept running into the back of the lady sitting across from me because a group had taken up space on the other side. The noise level was far too loud, and the tables were very close together. My other friend was skipped when it came to ordering and had to order later. It was a busy Saturday night, but it was still strange. The food was... simply GREASY. And that was it. I don't understand the good reviews. We couldn't even finish some of it because it was too heavy. The patatas bravas, for example, were just square-cut fried potatoes, soaked with fat. The mushrooms were drowning in oil. The prawns in beer batter were wrapped in so much batter that the inside was a wet lump of batter. Crispy is something else. We will never go there again.

A unique dining experience. I've rarely had such excellent Spanish food and such friendly service. If I could, I would give it 6 out of 5 stars.

I ate there with my family yesterday for my birthday. I've been there many times over the past 30 years, but I don't know why. Last night was truly a culinary festival. Six of us had a variety of tapas, other starters, and two main courses. All of them were incredibly delicious. From bread with aioli to creamed potatoes, pork in whiskey and cream sauce, and even a rump steak. Everything was a culinary delight. In my personal opinion, Meson Alegria deserves a star. I love eating there. And I will definitely only eat there when it means something special to me, because this place deserves to be considered special. Thank you for this amazing meal and the wonderful evening that came with it.

This was my second time here and I can highly recommend this restaurant! The tapas, especially for just €4 per bowl, are absolutely amazing! We were a group of seven, and no one had any complaints. Bottom line: Probably the best Spanish restaurant in Wuppertal!

I don't understand the other comments saying the food is authentic. It's equivalent to that of a seedy bar in Madrid, except here it's three times as expensive. I can't recommend it to anyone who's already been to Spain.

We haven't eaten this well in a long time! They served us bread with olives and aioli straight away. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. So if you're looking for a top Spanish restaurant with typical specialties and fair prices (around €30 per person for a main course), you should definitely go there! Even if you're only here for a few days, I highly recommend it 😇 .

We ate tapas at Mesón Alegría and enjoyed it. You could sit outside, which was pleasant – with a little more decoration outside, the atmosphere would have been even more harmonious. The service was very friendly and attentive, which made the visit really pleasant. The prices are fair overall. The sangria tasted good, but we found it a bit overpriced for the amount. The tapas were consistently delicious – freshly prepared and beautifully presented. A successful evening, we'd love to come back. At the end, we were treated to a delicious hazelnut liqueur.

We had a table at the end of the room and the service was still very good. The variety of cold and warm tapas were delicious with freshly toasted bread. At the end we experienced a warm brandy ceremony at the table, which everyone really enjoyed. Very, very good and recommended, keep it up.

A positive surprise. We were invited. From the outside you tend to think “oh, let’s go somewhere else”. Anyone who does that has missed something! Inside it is winding but not necessarily cramped, cozy and attractively furnished. The service was very friendly. The food - we combined several starters into one main course - was delicious and the samples were generous! Unfortunately, about half the time there can be a trip of about 8 young 'bitches'. They developed a very unpleasant noise, which was also noticed by the people at the neighboring tables. But we will definitely come back and hope that another group of slobbers doesn't destroy the great atmosphere.

The Meson Alegria is quite rightly very popular. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, the owners are warm, and this warmth is also reflected in the quality of the food. The dishes may seem expensive at first glance, but the generous portions and outstanding quality quickly make it clear that the price-performance ratio is absolutely right. Particularly noteworthy is the authentic Spanish flair of the restaurant, which is perfectly rounded off by the genuine, lovingly prepared tapas. Even if the dining room may seem a little cramped at times, each table still offers enough space for completely relaxed enjoyment. You'll be happy to forgive these small limitations at Meson Alegria - after all, you almost feel like you're in a cozy restaurant somewhere in Spain

I just don't think it's okay that you reserve a table and drive 30 km and end up not getting a table! That's just really disrespectful to your guests. We had to go somewhere else on Saturday evening despite waiting at this restaurant and making a reservation. Even one star is too many! Never again!

We came unannounced, there were a few people at the door. We (2) went into the restaurant, everything inside was occupied down to the smallest corner. Just visiting here, not making a reservation because it was a spontaneous decision. The lovely waiter was able to sit us down at a table. There was also a greeting from the kitchen: alioli and olives as well as toasted bread. After ordering tapas and drinks, we didn't have to wait long. The Sankria could have used even more tropical fruits. The taste was good. Proud price at 17 for 0.5. Ambience of a typical Spanish restaurant. With lots of little things and pictures on the wall. You feel good. Service was very friendly and accommodating. Afterwards there was a liqueur on the house.

Ein nettes Restaurant direkt an der Briller Str. Am heutigen Dienstag ist das Restaurant sehr gut besucht. Sehr viele Tapas und Vorspeisen befinden sich auf der Speisekarte. Genauso wie man es aus einem Spanien Urlaub kennt. Einfach lecker und gemütlich. Die Bedienung sehr freundlich. Man könnte meinen man ist im Urlaub in Spanien.

Overall, the tapas/raciones are good average for us, and of course some frozen products are also used here. However, the purchased products are of good quality. In my opinion, the sweet aioli cannot be homemade, otherwise I cannot explain the sugar content. And of course the prices have been increased drastically here too, so a considerable sum can be raised for an evening in good company. Please don't misunderstand me. We are quite willing to pay good money for good food, even in fine dining. In Meson Alegria we have currently reached our pain threshold. We rarely or no longer visit restaurants that, in our opinion, are increasingly sailing in the slipstream of inflation. I would like to emphasize that price increases were of course necessary. 13.50 € for a Racion Champiñones al ajillo in the quantity offered is nevertheless calculated very confidently. I don't actually want to know exactly which factor is used here, I know the purchase prices. And €9.50 for a drinkable average Rioja (quarter liter) is not without either. The house provides warmed bread with aioli or sometimes tomato puree and a nightcap is offered with the bill. The furnishings are already getting old, I think the toilets are in need of renovation or are no longer up to date. You can do it. Guests who are less price-sensitive will certainly be very satisfied here. I know. Tough but warm. Only praising reviews without any content will help anyone. And the store is running, so you don't have to worry. It's all ok!

Die Tapas/Raciones sind für uns in der Summe guter Durchschnitt, natürlich kommen auch hier teilweise Tiefkühlprodukte zum Einsatz. Die zugekauften Produkte sind aber qualitativ gut. Die süßliche Aioli kann meines Erachtens nicht hausgemacht sein, anderenfalls kann ich mir den Zuckergehalt nicht erklären. Und natürlich wurden auch hier die Preise drastisch erhöht, da kann für einen Abend in geselliger Runde schon ein beachtliches Sümmchen zusammenkommen. Man möge mich bitte nicht falsch verstehen. Wir sind durchaus bereit, gutes Geld für gutes Essen zu bezahlen, auch in der gehobenen Gastronomie. Im Meson Alegria sind wir momentan an unserer Schmerzgrenze angelangt. Restaurant, die aus unserer Sicht verstärkt im Windschatten der Inflation segeln, besuchen wir nur selten oder auch gar nicht mehr. Dabei möchte ich betonen, dass Preiserhöhungen selbstverständlich nötig waren. 13,50 € für eine Racion Champiñones al ajillo in der gebotenen Menge sind dennoch sehr selbstbewusst kalkuliert. Da möchte ich eigentlich gar nicht so genau wissen, welcher Faktor hier angewendet wird, mir sind die Einkaufspreise bekannt. Und 9,50 € für einen trinkbaren Durchschnitts-Rioja (Viertelliter) sind auch nicht ohne. Vom Haus gibt es vorweg angewärmtes Brot mit Aioli oder auch schon mal Tomatenpüree und mit der Rechnung wird ein Absacker angeboten. Die Einrichtung ist schon ordentlich in die Jahre gekommen, die Toiletten halte ich für sanierungsbedürftig bzw. nicht mehr zeitgemäß. Kann man machen. Gäste, die weniger preissensibel sind, werden hier sicher sehr zufrieden sein. Ich weiß. Hart aber herzlich. Nur lobhudelnde Bewertungen ohne Inhalt bringen niemanden weiter. Und der Laden läuft, da muss man sich keine Sorgen machen. Alles gut!

Authentic Spanish food and delicious Spanish beer. The tapas selection is plentiful and everyone should find something to their liking. The hosts Miguel and his wife + staff are always friendly and accommodating.

Today we can go again spontaneously and during the week it is often possible without a reservation. Like the entire 35 years that we have been guests at M. Alegria with Carmen and Miguel, it is always a pleasure because the food here is fresh and authentic. The effort involved in preparing fresh tapas and dishes is significantly increased and proves that the prices are not cheap, but are reasonable. Since we have an affinity for Spain and like to try out new things here at home, we had a wide variety of culinary experiences in various similar restaurants. And that's exactly why we are loyal to this rustic, cozy "Restaurante" and the positive and absolutely friendly "Familia" to this day, and always look forward to an evening with, for example, a Sopa de pescado, Pulop Gallega, Boquerones fritos, Parrillada de pescado or Cazuela " San Miguel" and natural patatas bravas. Finally, a celebrated brandy. Thank you for the good quality over the decades and that, despite the crazy Corna times, you are still here and offer the same quality and thus make the people in the valley happy...we remain loyal to you.

Geweldige ambiance. Super leuke ervaring. Spaans met Hoofdletter. Heel vriendelijk personeel. Dit restaurant kan ik aanraden voor iedereen. Bij binnenkomst, wij hadden al weken van te voren gereserveerd, noemde ik mijn naam en dat wisten zij meteen waar en hoe. Je mag hopen dat je zo overal ontvangen wordt. Het eten was ook echt heerlijk. Wij namen Tapas en deze waren snel en samen geserveerd. Dat is wat je wil.

We dined there for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised! To begin with, the food is delicious and you can tell that it is homemade, they have red wine and the atmosphere is very familiar. Great restaurant that we have known for years and enjoy visiting again and again. The food is great and here the boss serves himself. It's always a little noisy because it's small and narrow, but that's part of the charm. We'll definitely come back.
