Mentor's Holzofenpizza Restaurant Bar in München

The restaurant does not allow you to sit unless everyone orders a drink. When my friend and I arrived, there were many empty tables and we planned to order two pizzas and one drink for me. When the waitress asked my friend what he wanted to drink, he said he didn’t want anything. She told us we couldn’t have a table unless we both ordered drinks, which I’m fairly sure is illegal in Germany. I asked if she thought that was legal, and she said to speak with the owner. She then went to talk to him herself, but it was clear he didn’t care. (I had the same experience with them a year ago with another friend)

Recommend if you have a good appetite for Pizza or Pasta. I've been surprised by the giant delicious Pizza Diavolo. Warm and clean location with attentive staff. Also the atmosphere and design is outstanding and calm. Always again when I'm in town.

Huge, delicious pizzas at a fair price

On Saturday, when it was completely full, we still managed to get a table for four. Great atmosphere. Large, delicious pizza. Everything was just perfect. Thanks for the lovely evening.

Delicious wood-fired pizza (Tinno) that arrived incredibly quickly! Thin crust, fluffy edges, and topped with chili and garlic oil. A dream! I'll definitely be back!

Why do I HAVE to order a drink?? It's written on the first menu page. The food was edible, so to speak, but definitely not delicious. I'd like to classify that as nutrition. That was the best part. The staff was rude, just saying hello without a smile. Their faces were like, "Dude, why did you come here?" without a word. Secondly: Candles on the table? Yes. But nobody lit them for me. Yeah, great that I had a lighter myself – that was a small improvement, which is why this restaurant gets 2 stars instead of 1 ;) (that was ironic, in case anyone didn't get it). Okay, now the nutrition is in progress, everything's going well, the fork didn't break (which is a good thing, wow), then I got the bill, paid it, and...? Nothing. No thank you, no goodbye, just the kind of atmosphere you'd interpret as "we have your money, please hand it over." Should I call that Italian or Southern European? No. One word fits here: tragic. A real surprise: The 40 cm pizza was huge, freshly topped, and absolutely delicious. For the price in Munich, it was almost unrealistically cheap – a large portion, crispy crust, and no cheap ingredients. If you want a lot of pizza for little money, you definitely can't go wrong here.

The pizza was big enough and the flavor was okay. However, I felt quite uncomfortable being pressured to order an extra drink even though I didn’t want one. The service was not great — the waitress asked about moving our table but moved it before we had a chance to respond, which felt quite rude. The restaurant was also a bit noisy.

Great pizza at a reasonable price.

Very strange and uncomfortable experience. We visited around 3 p.m., at a time when the staff clearly outnumbered the customers. Despite this, there was only one waitress attending the floor. From the moment we entered, there was no greeting, no smile, and no eye contact. When I asked whether we could sit at a particular table, I received no verbal response—only a minimal nod, delivered with complete indifference (lack of interest). After being seated, no one came to take our order for about 10 minutes. As we were running late, I approached the waitress myself to place a simple pizza order. When we mentioned that we did not want drinks at that moment, she bluntly told us to take the food as takeaway instead. I asked politely whether we could order drinks a few minutes later. The answer was an inflexible “no.” When I tried to clarify, she replied, “I just work here. I don’t know,” offering no explanation or willingness to help—only deflection (avoidance of responsibility). Under unnecessary pressure, we ordered a Coke. However, my girlfriend felt increasingly uncomfortable with the overall attitude and suggested we leave. Within just a couple of minutes—before anything had been prepared or even started—we asked to cancel the order. Instead of asking whether something was wrong or showing basic courtesy, we were met with a rude remark along the lines of “tell us earlier,” said in a dismissive (disrespectful) tone. No apology. No professionalism. No hospitality. If this is how customers are treated when the restaurant is quiet, I can only imagine how it is during busy hours. Extremely disappointing.

In order to eat inside the restaurant, you are required to order a drink along with your pizza. Otherwise, even if you want to sit inside, you are forced to take the order to go. This is a completely arbitrary and unnecessary rule that negatively affects the customer experience. Additionally, the female staff member I encountered was quite unfriendly, which made the visit less pleasant.

You NEED to buy drinks with pizza if you are eating at restaurant which makes no sense to me. Why am I obligated to buy a drink while I am already paying for pizza?? Maybe I dont want to drink anything on that day. We are on 2025 but this restaurant want to restrict you to buy drinks or eat your pizza outside of the restaurant while there were a lot free desks to sit and eat your food. Why do you not respect my own preferences and chooses? Also the waiter was very rude while she was explaining the issue.

To be honest, the food was tasty but average. If you are hungry, want something nestled in a neighbourhood quick and not be disappointed, this can be a good fix.

Unfortunately, I was misled by the very good overall rating and came with my family for pizza on Sunday at lunchtime. The knives had visible water stains, and I had to argue to get a fork for my five-year-old son, with the explanation that the pizza was already pre-cut. In the end, I was even expected to pack the leftover pizza into the box myself. At €16-17 per pizza, I expect significantly better service. The pizza tasted okay, but I know much better pizzerias in the area. This restaurant might be an acceptable option for takeout or delivery – but unfortunately, that's about it.

I ordered two pizzas for takeaway and I'm still enjoying one of them ("Pizza Mentor"). Without a doubt, it's one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. Fluffy crust, very thin base, and at 40cm in diameter, it's huge. A dream! When I entered the restaurant, the pizza was just being taken out of the beautiful wood-fired oven. Incidentally, this was only 10 minutes after I had placed my order. Perfect, as I was short on time. I didn't pay much attention to the ambiance itself, since I was taking it away anyway. However, the friendly staff is also a plus. I would definitely come back!

First, the positives: The pizza was really big, and the taste was okay. Now for the big, big "but": Two out of the three of us didn't order anything to drink initially, which prompted the waitress to give us a funny look. She came back a few minutes later with the menu and pointed out that every guest HAS to order a drink, and that this was clearly stated on the very first page. Fine, so we reluctantly ordered drinks, and the atmosphere became very awkward for all of us. We lost our appetite for the tiramisu after that. Perhaps they should rethink their approach and focus on securing tips instead of pressuring guests and leaving them with a strange feeling.

I really can't understand the good reviews at all. When you open the menu, there's a big, cryptic message telling you that you have to buy a meal and a drink – I always do that anyway, and I didn't plan to do it any differently this time, but such a start isn't exactly inviting. The pizza was one of the most expensive I've ever had (around €18), but unfortunately, it was far from one of the best. While I do like a crispy crust, the base was so hard that it barely gave at all when you took a slice. The only positive thing I can say is that the pizza was indeed larger than average.

My girlfriend didn't want to drink anything - we were then rather strangely informed that you can't order food without a drink, which I find unacceptable. Hence the negative review.

This was by far the best pizza I've ever eaten in my life. The crust was crispy and the toppings at "Mentor's Pizza" were truly unbelievably delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone! I'd be happy to come back! Thank you so much!

In our opinion, a few things have changed for the worse recently: - The quality of the pizza is inconsistent; last time, unfortunately, the bottom was consistently burnt, which you could taste with every bite. - The salad is now only half the size it used to be for the same price. - You can now only get food if you also order a drink, as is clearly stated on the first page of the menu. It's a real shame.

Simply amazing! We had a fantastic evening at this pizzeria! From the moment we arrived, we received a very warm welcome and were perfectly looked after by the entire team – friendly, attentive, and always in a good mood. The food was a real highlight: fresh ingredients, great quality, and simply unbelievably delicious. We were particularly impressed by the pizza! Added to that, the cozy, inviting atmosphere perfectly rounded off the evening. We felt completely at home and are already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended.

We spontaneously stopped by on Sunday evening on our way back from vacation. The kids preferred to eat ramen a few meters away, so we split up, which they later regretted. The ambiance and the welcome were impressive. A table in the attractively decorated interior was available despite no reservation. The service by the lady of the house was friendly, uncomplicated, personal, and courteous. Very pleasant and with a high feel-good factor! Two fresh Augustiner beer, a Pizza Diavola, and a Spaghetti Carbonara later, we were completely happy and full. We also had a nice chat with the chef. A truly perfect end to the vacation. Conclusion: A highly recommended gem of down-to-earth Italian cuisine in Munich.

Good place to have a pizza or pasta dish.

We spontaneously reserved a table, and everything went smoothly. The pizza was huge and delicious, but nothing particularly special. I know a few better places. Still, it was totally okay. 👌🏻 Unfortunately, I found the corner where we sat a bit cramped; there were two other people sitting right next to us, so it felt like one big table. 😂

A wonderful restaurant. Very tasty food. The pizzas were truly delicious. The dough was crispy and soft. I recommend this restaurant if you want pizza. The pizzas are definitely generous, measuring 40 cm. And it's not that expensive. We paid around €20 per person. A good pizza restaurant in central Munich.

A Magherita is the best value for money, as you'll easily pay double for such a small topping. Still delicious, and I'd happily order again. The pizza was very good, the special was lukewarm, and the service was not very warm and rather unfriendly. The owner's family and friends were greeted and served in a friendly manner, while the regular guests were more or less tolerated.

The huge pizzas are simply incredibly delicious. You don't necessarily have to make a reservation, the staff will always find a place and you can stay as long as you want.

I ordered margherita, the dough was incredibly crispy. The garlic (quite intense!) and spicy sauce was quite good. Personal dislike comes from the unnecessary thinness in the middle of the pizza, but some people like it, this is personal preference

Kind of weird shop: table was sticky, not really clean. The candle was left out, the service was rather poor / taciturn and in the end there was only an "intermediate bill" (when paying by card) and no proper receipt - a no-go for me. The table next door paid in cash and got a grappa & espresso on the house (with a lower bill). Well. Pizza was OK, but not amazing. The store won't see me again...

I can only partially understand the good reviews. Table right by the door that doesn't close and there's a constant draft. Constant opening and closing included. Amazing food and atmosphere, we didn't have a booking but were able to get a table on a Thursday evening, we were kept warm from the oven fire which let us escape from the cold, had two 40cm pizzas that were amazing! Amazing service also, dropped one of our hotel cards within the restaurant and they were amazingly helpful to find it!

The restaurant is located very centrally. It is a very nice and cozy place to eat. I liked that it has a wide variety of Pizzas and drinks and is open every day. I had the Diavolo Pizza, which is my favorite. The food is very good and the pizzas are huge, but I was not satisfied with the service. The restaurant has a rule: if you don't order a drink, they don't serve you food. It's still good, but the waiters answered very rudely when we asked them something.
