The atmosphere is great, especially in summer; the amount of food is good value for money; it's a shame that the pizzas aren't available to order all the time.

A pleasant encounter with the owners began with a glance at the menu. The service staff was very friendly and competent. The food was excellent (pizza, tiramisu, and a good bottle of wine), and the restaurant's good reputation was confirmed. Highly recommended.

I'd say this is one of the best, if not the best, pizza in Unna. 🫶 I haven't had such a good pizza in a long time! But the pasta dishes are also so delicious 🤤 But as always, my motto: Only those who go can have a say. And please go! And the desserts, beyond words 👍

There's no pizza available during lunchtime opening hours, unbelievable. And the notice only comes after the drinks are on the table. Such extremely poor service.

The "Meisterhaus" (Master's House) is set in an early modern setting on the once-fortified ramparts, no longer directly visible, on Hertinger Straße in Unna's southern city center: old oak beams, thick brickwork, few, and even more battered, windows, and a relatively narrow space. But this certainly creates a certain ambiance and flair. This reliably attracts guests: reservations are recommended. The food: very good, fresh, spicy, with a strong taste of fresh garlic, also in the excellent, spicy tomato soup. The stone-baked pizza: deservedly famous. Although made with a bit too much dough and therefore quite bulky, its excellent toppings and cooking quality speak volumes. The pasta 'Aragosta alla Meisterhaus' (shrimp and lobster cream): spicy, full, and yet elegant. The service impresses with its efficiency, humor, professionalism, and energy. It's a busy and lively place. A background murmur is the music to the cheerful gathering and good food. Conclusion: A visit is highly recommended, despite the paper napkins. Addendum, late summer 2025: The Meisterhaus offers a party delivery service. This is highly recommended. From the initial consultation and consultation, to the delivery of the food, to the pickup of the utensils, everything went perfectly. And last but not least: The quality of the food and the value for money were impeccable and excellent.

Last night we got food from the Meisterhaus: a pizza and two salads for a whopping €49, the whole thing seasoned with the typical unfriendly service at Meisterhaus! Good, you might think... if the food is good...?! This meal was far from "good"! The pizza was burnt, the salad wasn't washed, the sand crunched in your teeth, and it was carelessly presented. Tomato with mozzarella: the tomatoes were quartered and carelessly thrown onto the plate, with the mozzarella slapped in the middle! The whole thing was barely seasoned and without any dressing! I never write reviews, but in this case the food was simply a disgrace, and the €49 to go with it!!! Never again!!!

The pizza is delicious, just like it has been for decades. I've been going to Meisterhaus regularly for over 40 years, and it's always delicious.

Unfortunately, the menu has been significantly reduced, and they no longer serve fries. For me, this is a reason to stop visiting the restaurant. I also found the service very impersonal. So, unfortunately, I can no longer recommend it.

Today we ate at the Meisterhaus for the first time in a long time. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to our expectations. I ordered saltimbocca with risotto and a white wine sauce. It came with two thick pieces of pork fillet wrapped in ham, a tablespoon of risotto, and a touch of white wine sauce with some ratatouille vegetables. When I asked if saltimbocca was actually a schnitzel (it's usually made with veal), I was told they didn't have any schnitzels... When I order saltimbocca, I don't expect pork fillet! The ham was definitely not Parma ham. We gave it a solid 6, even though they did add more white wine sauce. The service and staff were really good, though. We won't be coming back...

Arrived at 7.20 p.m. We spontaneously stopped by the Meisterhaus today (Wednesday / warm weather). We found ourselves a table in the beer garden. The beer garden was busy in the evening. We had to wait 30 minutes for the menu and it took just as long to take our order. Instead of the Hövel we ordered, we were served a DAB, but so as not to have to wait too long again, I accepted it. It also took ages for the food (starter and main course) to arrive. The main course came when it was already dark. When we asked for lights, we got a rude no and we should be happy that the restaurant had opened at all. The outside lights came on after a short while. The minestrone was great as always, and so were the pizzas. The pizza rolls were very hard to chew and the mussels were dripping in fat. I took the mussels home to improve them. At home I measured out 150 ml of fat plus all the cheese on top. It's a shame about the otherwise always delicious dish. The total price for the three people (2 pizzas, 1 small bruschetta, 1 minestrone, 1 pizza roll, 1 0.75-ml water, a beer, and a large Spezi) was €87. We left the restaurant at 10 p.m.

Tuesdays seem to be an exception in Unna. The restaurant was open, but there were no pizzas available because the pizza makers were off work. Very strange...

Without Giovanni, nothing would happen. We waited over an hour for our food in vain, and after asking twice, they still couldn't tell us what was going on. We finally left.

Unfortunately, the staff was unfriendly. The tablecloth was torn and stained. We won't be back. 6 years later: We did come back. Conclusion: Again disappointing. It was enough for the beer garden. Pleasant atmosphere, we spontaneously got seats for two without a reservation. I ordered a Caprese salad. The tomatoes had no taste, and they were much too coarsely chopped (quartered). There was very little to no olive oil. And the basil was completely omitted. For the price, it was outrageous. The "capricciosa" pizza: inferior salami. Soot residue on the pizza base. Toppings undercooked. There was a sign at the entrance that read: "We are grateful for every guest. Ungrateful guests are welcome to move to the next house!!!" What's the point of that? If anything, we'll only come back for drinks in the beer garden. What all the hype about the Meisterhaus is a mystery to us.

We had planned our wedding dinner at the Meisterhaus and spoken with the team several times in advance – including rehearsal dinners, room arrangements, and menu planning. We were assured that we, as a private party (approx. 20-25 people), would be accommodated in a separate room, and that appetizer platters would be served in advance. Unfortunately, the day itself went completely differently than planned: Despite a firm reservation and multiple confirmations, our party was summarily seated outside on three (!) separate tables upon arrival – allegedly because staff members had called in sick. A smooth process or a festively decorated room? None of this. When we politely inquired, we were treated harshly at times, even shouted at when we tried to at least take flowers outside. Only after repeated, clear complaints were we finally allowed to sit inside – much too late and with unnecessary stress. The appetizers weren't ready either. Conclusion: The food was of very good quality, but the service, planning, and treatment of guests – especially on such an important day – were absolutely disappointing. Despite our subsequent apologies, we still have a negative overall impression. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend the Meisterhaus for special occasions.

The Master's House. Once upon a time. Time is up and the rum has faded. It has faded but unfortunately they always live off it. I will certainly not set foot in this restaurant again. What I experienced today was poor, if not unsatisfactory, and surpasses pretty much everything I have experienced in my life. In fact, the food is served by the app in a way that is completely unprofessional. If Deutsche Bahn serves food in the dining car, then at least that is their fault. My advice to you is: please train your service staff. One more thing to note: the next problem: even if it may be difficult to find good staff after the Corona period, the management should urgently replace some of them or provide training. That was shameful and disrespectful. For the sake of completeness, what is completely unacceptable. The outrageous manner in which the service is concerned is one thing, but being asked from the side if you would like bread with your meal is hard to believe. In good restaurants, they bring a snack beforehand, but in the Meisterhaus they ask if you would like bread with it. That's shameful. The rum and everything I remember from the old days at the Meisterhaus will fade away soon. I'm glad about that. Six of us went to dinner at the Meisterhaus. The price-performance ratio is completely out of whack! For two small pieces of veal fillet, three spoonfuls of green beans, and a few rosemary potatoes, we had to pay €35. I think that's very overpriced. For a 0.5-liter non-alcoholic wheat beer, €6! For two small pieces of rack of lamb, two spoonfuls of overcooked vegetables, and three spoonfuls of spaghetti, €35 is also too much! The salmon dish, which also cost around €35, was also a joke. The risotto wouldn't have even fed a toddler. It was just two tablespoons! We were usually very satisfied. But this was our last visit to the Meisterhaus.

I'm from Unna and can say that the Meisterhaus's good reputation dates back to ancient times. We've eaten there a few times recently. It was never outstanding, average at best. Quite the opposite when it came to the prices. A few days ago, six of us were there. This time we decided to ignore the prices and treat ourselves. The ox cheeks, rack of lamb and veal, and salmon were all very tasty; the portions themselves were outrageous. For around €35 ​​per dish, the quantity of the dishes was outrageous. The salmon came with two tablespoons of risotto, the rack of lamb consisted of two sets of three ribs, the ox cheeks were also very small, as was the veal. The pasta that went with the rack of lamb took three forks to eat. Bad value for money. The only portions that would satisfy even the most normal adult eater were the two pasta dishes. Furthermore, the vegetables in the ox cheeks tasted very sour, as if they had been pickled. It's good to know about such things in advance. The side dishes were very limited for all dishes. It was also unfortunate that, even though the restaurant was moderately busy, we had to wait over an hour for our food. Unfortunately, other tables were served before us. The waitress was very nice! Unfortunately, we were disappointed too often, so we probably won't be coming back.

We wanted an alternative to wheat flour. No chance. Pizza with just wheat flour was okay, but at least in a master's house they should offer whole-wheat pasta. The waiter didn't know any spelt and laughed at us, saying we should have vegetables instead. But that only worked with a meaty main course. Unfortunately, due to a lack of consideration, only 2 stars for service. The ravioli portion looked more like a starter than a main course, hence only 2 stars here. The pizza was okay, but you simply expect more from a master's house. Sorry.

As a new resident of Unner, I have heard again and again how great the Meisterhaus is. Let me put it this way: No, it's not. Maybe 20 years ago, that may be the case, but today... the pizza is mediocre in taste, the price of around 18 euros is a disgrace. A few meters further down there is better pizza for half the price... and I don't think it's even Italian. However, you can't sit there very well. Oh, that's right, you can't do that in the master's house either. For example, the seating has holes and occasionally you could wipe under the table. But all of that was probably because we were there on Saturday evening. It was so full that we didn't even have to make a reservation :-) I know you have fans and they're going to be upset again, but pictures don't lie.

Food was delicious. The white wine we ordered first wasn't available, the replacement came in a huge red wine or Aperol glass. A noise like a train station. That really killed the evening.

We were 7 people. The food tasted really great. Pizzas were great, our friends said so. One person, who is actually a bit picky, said that his pizza tasted the best he had ever eaten! I had cream of broccoli soup with salmon beforehand. And as a 2 course tagliatelle with baby spinach and salmon in a cream sauce. The taste was really delicious and the food was served really hot, so hot that I even had to wait a bit. The service was very friendly. A lovely evening with delicious food!

Was there for the second time. The first time the service was quite disorganized and we had to wait a long time for drinks and food. The portion of pasta would have been enough for my little daughter but not for an adult. It was tasty nonetheless. Second time trying pizza with high expectations of the stone oven. Unfortunately, the taste was only lower midfield. The atmosphere at the team event was also cruel. A long room that looked like a huge, uncomfortable storage room. Not even the chairs were upholstered. The ambience is much better downstairs. I still see room for improvement in some areas. But there probably won't be a third visit. Too bad.

We had dinner here last night - Boxing Day. It was called 1. Haus am Platz, my expectations were high. It was by far my worst restaurant experience. The rooms are not heated, not a bit of Christmas decorations on the tables and the women's toilet is underground, worse than any train toilet (hygiene nil). The food was tasty, two different pasta dishes with seafood, but there could have been a few more for the steep prices and also the pasta... we've never had so little on our plate before. Our conclusion: Never eat here again!

Had sole which was very delicious and was filleted tenderly. The other dishes were also convincing. With the sole, just a side dish alongside the salad would have been enough to round it off. The only downside: Unfortunately there was no pizza on Mondays and Tuesdays. That's actually what we went there for. If you don't live locally, you hardly have the opportunity to research this in advance.

It seems to us that expectations and reality differ greatly here. The ambience in the beautiful half-timbered house is completely antiquated and in old fashion style, lamps hang uncomfortably over the table, so that you have the lamp on your forehead while eating. From our point of view, the food is not even upscale. The way the plates are arranged is not particularly imaginative. We would like the spirit of the times to be taken more into account here.

Sehr leckeres Essen und tolle Atmosphäre, ich gehe seit Jahren immer wieder gerne hin. Besonders hervorzuheben ist meiner Meinung nach, daß die Gerichte komplett selbst gekocht sind und keine Halbfertig- oder Fertigprodukte verwendet werden, wie häufig in anderen Restaurants üblich (auch wenn das keiner sagt). Es wird authentisch gekocht und das ist mir als Person mit Unverträglichkeiten in Bezug auf Zusatzstoffe und Glutamat sehr wichtig, denn nur im Meisterhaus kann ich unbesorgt essen gehen und bekomme immer ein köstliches Essen. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis finde ich vollkommen ok. Es werden keine von der Lebensmittelindustrie produzierten Hilfsmittelchen eingesetzt und man erhält tatsächlich "echtes Essen"- . das kostet Personal, Zeit und Aufwand und muß halt auch bezahlt werden.

Ich habe gestern Essen abgeholt für 18 Uhr bestellt. Die Antipasti waren lieblos zusammengestellt. Tomaten draufgeworfen etc. Das Carpaccio war grenzwertig . Das Fleisch grau , die drei Scheiben Käse waren schon angelaufen und hart. Preis Leistung sehr schlecht. Es gibt zwei Punkte, weil die Pizza ok war. Schade früher war die Qualität besser !!!

That was NOTHING... Ordered takeaway last night. That was nothing at all... - Carpaccio: the meat was gray, the parmesan was hard and sweaty... - Antipasti Mista: carelessly thrown onto a plate, tomatoes looked like they had just been thrown on top. Price/performance below ground at 15€, seemed like it came straight from the discount plastic packaging to the plate... - Pizzas tasted ok, but were already under the heat lamp, even though we were there well before the time to pick them up... All in all, not nice to look at, not tasty and really too expensive… It was better there and we certainly won't come back... you get a lot more for the same expensive money elsewhere!

It's a shame, the food used to be very good and the service was worse than bad, today it's the other way around, unfortunately.

On a Wednesday evening, six of us were able to sit in the great, rustic rooms without a reservation. We had an English speaker in our group, which was absolutely no problem with the service. The orders were taken in optimal English. After not a long wait, our drinks arrived and shortly afterwards the pizzas. Everything was super tasty. A great visit to a beautiful restaurant with delicious food and very friendly service.

It was much better. From a pizza with seafood, I expect seafood and not just a few strips of squid and a few canned scampis. Apart from the two mentioned there was nothing on the pizza, no mussels, no small squid. I can probably expect that for €15.80. It's a shame, I won't eat there anymore.

My wife invited me to your first wedding anniversary because she always went to Meistehaus Essen as a child. Of course the operator is no longer from 1990, but thanks to our childhood memories we were happy to take up the offer. The food was okay so far and I find places like this super interesting. There is a story in the house. But people, your toilet is worse than a toilet at Frankfurt train station. The hygiene in the toilet is zero. A quick look into the more or less open kitchen wasn't exactly exciting either. What can you do there? Is it operational blindness here? I will definitely come back and try your pizza, which unfortunately wasn't available that day, and rewrite my review. But that was definitely a zero number. Afterwards, I had people from Unna tell me that they recommended something else. That can't be the case and I personally wouldn't let it happen. I like constructive criticism and am happy when the other reviews get better. Make something of yourself and get the store going again. Kind regards Jens Doering

Very tasty food...outside Many flies and wasps were uncomfortable eating in the bed

Nach langer Zeit waren wir mal wieder im Meisterhaus! Ein sonniger Sonntag! Wir wurden freundlich begrüßt und nahmen im Biergarten Platz. Wir waren - bis auf einen anderen besetzten Tisch die Einzigen und bekamen recht zügig unsere bestellten Getränke und Brot mit Knoblauchquark serviert..wobei das Brot trocken war und ohne Geschmack. Dann wurden die Vorspeisen serviert. Diese haben uns leider nicht sonderlich begeistert! Aufgrund der Preise und unseren Erinnerungen an das frühere Meisterhaus hatten wir ganz andere Erwartungen. "Bruschetta" ist gebackener und dann belegter Pizzateig. - Warum? Beim "Vitello Tonnato" fehlten die Kapern und jeglicher Geschmack, stattdessen ein Berg Rucola und Parmesan-"Platten" oben drauf. Unsere Stimmung verschlechterte sich dann deutlich, als die Hauptspeisen serviert wurden und das Lammfleisch auf einem Teller verdorben war. Der eindeutige Geruch lockte unmittelbar dutzende Fliegen an, die nun unseren Tisch umschwirrten….. Die Angestellten nahmen auf unseren Wunsch den Teller wieder mit, verscheuchten Fliegen, entschuldigten sich und boten an, das Gericht von der Rechnung zu streichen. Der Appetit war uns vergangen.. Wenn man es nicht kann, dann sollte man es besser sein lassen, bevor ein Gast zu Schaden kommt! Auf der Internetseite wird mit „täglich frischer Wareneinsatz“ und „höchste Qualität bei Fleisch und Fisch“ geworben. Dieses Versprechen wurde nicht eingehalten und wir sind uns sicher, dass wir hier nicht mehr hingehen und wir können es nicht empfehlen…

Been there again for a long time. It used to be pretty tasty. Well, was is the right word. The pizza was more edge than everything else and the topping (tuna onion) was a solid 4- at a price of €15.50. Incredibly bad. You had to be quick to get something to drink. Otherwise the waitresses had disappeared again. Waited more than 15 minutes for a beer. Food came after over an hour. Conclusion: Never again, and I advise that to everyone….

Wir wollten uns auf dem Heimweg eine Pizza zum Mitnehmen bestellen. Hinter der Theke standen zwei Personen, im Ofen war eine Pizza. Auskunft des Pizzabäckers: Wegen Personalmangel verkaufen wir keine Pizza zum Mitnehmen. So etwas lässt einen sprachlos zurück. Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass wegen Besuchermangel nicht irgendwann überhaupt keine Pizza mehr verkauft wird.

Good evening We waited 25 minutes for our first drinks this evening. The main course took 2 hours to arrive and was totally over salted. So if you like to wait a long time for your drinks or food. Or likes to eat extremely salty foods and with blunt knives. It's exactly right in the Meisterhaus.

Nach Jahren mal wieder dort gewesen. War mal ein super Laden. Noch nie so schlecht und teuer gegessen. Wir hatten zu 6. einen Tisch drinnen bestellt. Als wir ankamen, hieß es, wir bedienen nur im Biergarten. Kein Kellner für drinnen. Wetter war zwar ok, aber auch nicht so toll. Alles ist teurer geworden, ok. Aber für eine Pizza 17 oder 19 Euro zu bezahlen, das spricht für sich. Nudeln 17 bis 20 Euro, Fleischgerichte an die 30 Euro. Wir haben dann Lasagne bestellt und hausgemachte Ravioli mit Frischkäse auf Tomatensud. Lasagne schwamm vor Fett. Fast nur Käse, der total zäh war. Gerade mal 2 Nudelplatten, 1 Scheibe Kochschinken, Hackfleisch habe ich gar nicht geschmeckt. Furchtbar. Aber schlimmer waren die Ravioli. Der Käse drin war weder heiss und total bröckelig. Weiss nicht, wie alt das schon war. Tomatensud hieß einfach Tomatenmark pur, ohne Gewürze. Ich hab es stehen gelassen. Hinter uns am Tisch roch es so stark nach Fisch, dass uns schlecht wurde. Haben Lachs und Garnelen gegessen. Fisch darf doch nicht riechen. Nie wieder.

Purely by chance, we were in the beer garden. A quiet, beautiful spot. Food was good, once spagetti, once pizza and salad. Everything was lovingly done and sufficient.

The two stars are only there because the pizza was really good. Everything else is catastrophic. Four of us only ordered pizza and drinks, no starters. The pizza came over 1.5 hours later. The reason for the whole thing was that there was currently only one pizza baker. Regular customers who came after us had already finished three courses when our food finally arrived. Unfortunately, we weren't given the opportunity to order any more drinks throughout the evening

Disappointed for the second time! At 8:45 p.m. they no longer accept guests who still want to eat pizza, even though it is open until 10 p.m. The food may be good, but we won't be seen like this again. A pity.

The master house has lost its master! I'm shocked at how much quality it has lost within a year, but at the same time the prices have increased by 50%. Prices doubled and quality halved within a year. This is really a masterpiece in a negative sense. And we as Unnarans have been eating there regularly for over 15 years. Until a year ago we were enthusiastic about the restaurant and I used to rave about it. Unfortunately that has now changed and I definitely do not recommend it. Management should rethink their concept and hire more staff. Currently far too few waiters, far too few cooks. If you charge 18€ for a pizza, an appropriate number of staff should probably be realistic, because according to the waiters they are overwhelmed by the number of guests. "Staff shortage" only occurs if you only pay your staff minimum wage or simply paid too little. The quality of the food depends on the staff a restaurant has, make sure your staff feels comfortable with you and you won't be lacking! Another complaint is that there are no vegan main dishes. In general there are “only” 3 mini side dishes as a vegan version. That's not up to date these days. We are very disappointed with this development and will no longer eat there.
