MAYURI Indisches Spezialitätenrestaurant in Duisburg

On the recommendation of our children, who live in Duisburg and eat at Mayuri at least once or twice a month, we went there on Saturday evening. We (8 people in total) were absolutely thrilled, both with the super delicious food, including mango lassi, and with the chef, who very personably briefed us on the different spiciness levels of the dishes. Our conclusion: We'd be happy to go back...⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We felt comfortable throughout... this Indian restaurant doesn't have the kitsch feel of others; instead, it has a living-room atmosphere. The prices are fair (€10-15 per main course), and the portions are just right, so you won't feel overwhelmed and you can still fit in dessert. The food is delicious and seems authentic—for example, they serve authentic Indian ice cream (kulfi). It gets very busy in the evenings. You should make a reservation and allow yourself plenty of time, as service can take a bit longer.

We went there for the first time today, and the food was delicious. The service was excellent, and the owners were very friendly. The music in the background made us feel very comfortable. All in all, a fantastic dining experience.

We ate there for the first time yesterday, just the two of us. Very friendly service, reasonably priced dishes. We would have liked more; at €15.50 for a main course, you definitely can't expect a "mountain" of food. We'd be happy to offer XL portions for hungry men in the future for an additional charge! The "resident dog" is very sweet and chill. 🙂

We had a very good meal here today. Despite a misunderstanding regarding the table reservation, we were treated very courteously. The owner delighted us with his hospitality. We will be back.

Please avoid this restaurant at all costs. The food is of poor quality and quantity, tastes bad, is overpriced, and the dishes are far too oily. As you can see... it was delicious :) super tasty and authentic. Everything was super fast, and the service was very friendly and authentic. I would recommend it to everyone, and it's great value for money. I'd be happy to go back :)

The first impression wasn't great. The outdoor pavilion was a bit unkempt. But the owner was super nice and patiently answered all our questions. The food also came very quickly. The appetizers were delicious. The naan garlic bread was really good, and the tandoori salmon was fantastic. We can go back.

We were at the restaurant last night and were so impressed. The service was excellent, very friendly, and accommodating. For starters, we were served three dips with typical Indian "chip bread." These were already very tasty. Then came the main course: we had chicken tikka masala and other dishes. Everyone was thrilled with the taste. I've eaten Indian food in several restaurants, but this was by far the best. The herbs and spices complement the freshly prepared food and it was truly an explosion of flavor. It will definitely be our favorite restaurant, and we'll be visiting it regularly from now on. The price-performance ratio was really good. The portions look small, but they are more than sufficient. Kudos to the kitchen and the service.

The lady working here is very rude. Running Indian restaurant, attracting Indian visitors and forcing them to speak in German is highly ironical. We had to face wrath of the lady just because we couldn’t order in German. We felt humiliated. Highly unprofessional behaviour. Will not recommend this place to fellow visitors.

Restaurants should be inclusive spaces where all guests feel comfortable, regardless of their language skills or background. I visited this restaurant and, unfortunately, my experience was disappointing.The owner expected me to speak only in German and was not welcoming when I tried to communicate in English”. Highly recommended! The menu for two people costs €46, excluding drinks. You can choose between different meats or the vegetarian option for the main course. We had the vegetarian version. It was absolutely delicious. I can't name everything, but it included spinach with Indian cheese, black lentils, chickpeas, and more. You should also bring an appetite: The bowls seem small, but it's very filling.

I can proudly suggest this place for dining. 2 times we ordered for a big crowd party and the food was surprisingly good quality and delicious that it not only was tasty for our indian guests but also our non indian guests liked it very much and were asking the name of the restaurant. This wonderful Indian restaurant is located in the premises of a former traditional restaurant with a covered terrace. The dining room is accordingly a mix of both cultures. We had a very pleasant evening with very friendly hosts. The menu offered sufficient options for both our meat lovers and vegetarians. Each dish tasted very unique and delicious. Definitely a compliment to the kitchen! We would be happy to come back.

Selten so lecker indisch gegessen! Sind heute wieder hin weil es so lecker war. Gestern gab es Paneer und heute das Chicken Tikka Masala! Top gewürzt. Meine Freundin war selbst lange mit einem Inder zusammen und sagt es war der beste Dal seit dem! Der indische Koch kocht alles selbst und man merkt dass er noch mit Liebe die Gerichte zubereitet!

Das beste indische Restaurant im Ruhrpott. Das Essen ist so unfassbar detailliert gewürzt, dass man gar nicht aufhören kann. Ein wahrer Gaumenschmaus. Der Chefkoch in der Küche kam auch persönlich Mal an den Tisch und sich um unser Wohl bemüht. Die sehr freundliche Frau hinterm Tresen liest einem nahezu die Wünsche von den Lippen ab. Wirklich Klasse!

Update 2025: We ordered something again today after a long time. It's wonderful that Mayuri offers such consistently excellent Indian cuisine. We are thrilled once again! Update 2024: The food is still great. After a longer stay abroad in the UK, where we learned to appreciate Indian cuisine, it took us quite a while to find a comparable Indian restaurant. You can really get authentic Indian food at Mayuri. Simply wonderful. Over the months we have tried different dishes. Everything was extremely tasty and reminded us of our time in Nottingham at Singh's or Desi Down Town. Superb!

Unfortunately had a very bad experience with this restaurant. We ordered food via Uber eats. I got a totally different dish. I ordered a chicken dish and got a chickpeas (which I dont like at all) dish which is totally different and cost a lower price. Of course I didnt eat it as I dont like chickpeas. They were about to close and was no other chance to order again as per ubereats the orders close at 9 PM. I tried contact them per email about this situation, but no answer. Never happened something like this in my life. The dish that was ordered by my wife was also partially wrong. Really a pity as I love Indian kitchen but my experience was totally ruined and ended without a dinner that night and still paid for it.

Went to the restaurant spontaneously and the food tasted delicious! Very friendly staff and accommodating. There is also less than 20 euros for a main course plus a drink and something for the waiting time.

Received completely wrong delivery and restaurant offers no solution and blames the ubereats delivery service. Thanks for nothing! Now we're sitting here without food and our mood is in the basement. Edit after response from the owner: It was technically not possible to order again via ubereats due to the time. This would also have caused us to incur high delivery fees and service charges again.

Auch die Atmosphäre ist etwas Besonderes: herzlich, familiär und unglaublich einladend. Man fühlt sich hier nicht nur als Gast, sondern fast wie ein Teil der Familie. Die Besitzer sind außergewöhnlich freundlich und legen großen Wert darauf, dass sich jeder wohlfühlt. Für uns gibt es keinen besseren Ort, um authentische indische Küche zu genießen. Our absolute favorite restaurant! We have been to this wonderful restaurant many times - and have been thrilled every time! The food is simply incredibly good, full of authentic Indian flavors and prepared with a lot of love. The dishes taste fresh and perfectly seasoned every time. The atmosphere is also something special: warm, familiar and incredibly inviting. You don't just feel like a guest here, but almost like part of the family. The owners are exceptionally friendly and attach great importance to ensuring that everyone feels comfortable. For us, there is no better place to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine. The food is very good but the staff friendly as the ware slow and forgetful my problem is they had 3 dogs in the restaurant 1 owned by the staff and 2 from customer it’s a restaurant so it’s a no no for me

When it comes to Indian cuisine, in my opinion, no one in Duisburg can hold a candle to Mayuri. Whether Vindaloo or Biryani, everything I tried tasted very good and the portions always left me full. The price may be a little higher than the competition, but the quality difference makes it worth it. The restaurant itself is located in the deepest part of Neudorf, far away from all the shopping streets. Mayuri is located on a moderately busy street, but thanks to the good design of the outdoor terrace, you don't notice much of the hustle and bustle and can relax. The restaurant also looks neat and clean inside and all in all seems very inviting. The staff is courteous and friendly. I've particularly grown fond of the owner's bulldog, who usually lies outside and takes a nap in the summer.

Great tasting indian food, very friendly staff, although we usually order in, just 4* because they might have gotten a thing or two wrong with the orders over the years and watch your order well because spicy means spicy and Indian spicy is like 3. degree burns for most people...but anyway, we are sort of regulars, so we do recommend it!

The food was good. Except the waitress was absolutely unbearable. Regularly yells at customers. The chef then comes out of the kitchen to calm her down. I could also read this from other reviews and unfortunately had to confirm it. There are better Indian restaurants in Duisburg!

Its one is those places where you feel you are unwanted. Me and my daughter on our way from Germany to Amsterdam came to this place for our dinner, after booking on their site online. We were seated on a table which wasn't cleaned after previous customer had left. We kept waiting for 15-20 mins, no one came to us asking for any drinks, food or order. The waitress, she was laughing and joking with the customers on table next to us for almost 5-7 mins, then went inside the kitchen and didn't show up. She just ignored me and my small daughter as we didn't exist. This was between 7:30-8 pm in the evening of 17th Aug 24 and my daughter was really hungry as we had been on road driving to Amsterdam from Austria. After 20 mins of no service, we decided to leave. She could have told 'no' to us directly instead of ignoring, and indirectly forcing us to leave. This experience left us feeling invisible and unwelcome.

I go there with my mother once a year. The quality has been consistently very good since the Indian restaurant was founded and the location was taken over from the previous "Zum Knorrigen". The same applies to the service - the owner is always friendly and with a smile on his face. Regarding the dog mentioned in other comments, I can add that it is a nice and calm animal that is rather lazy and not pushy. If you like lamb and spicy, I can recommend the “Lamm Vindaloo”. I only knew "Vindaloo" from a TV documentary about India, but I had to try it here years ago and wasn't disappointed. 5/5
