Mattis in Esslingen am Neckar

A great place for anyone who enjoys traditional Swabian fare. They're also open to new variations of the delicious Mauldäschle (a kind of German dish).

Delicious Maultaschen, friendly service, and lovely outdoor seating at the harbor market. I'd love to come back.

We were part of a group of 25 and loved the various Maultaschen (swabian pasta) that were served with them. The salad was also excellently dressed.

I ate here one evening this week. A very nice restaurant, with excellent service. I ordered the Austrian Maultaschen, crispy fried Käsekrainer Maultaschen with a mustard and cream sauce and leaf salad. It tasted excellent. It was accompanied by a delicious Berg Pilsner. Certainly the best Maultaschen I've ever eaten. Finally, I took my pre-ordered classic Maultaschen (vacuum-packed).

This place can only be given 5 stars. Whenever I'm in Esslingen, I always wish I could visit Mattis ;-) Simply unbelievably delicious, fast, great service, and there's always a place for us. It's always a highlight for me and I highly recommend it.

With a lovely visitor from Hesse, we ended up at Mattis at Esslingen's Hafenmarkt and spent a wonderful evening. The Maultaschen (swabian pasta) with various fillings were delicious, and the potato salad was even better! The very friendly service and the ambiance in this beautiful square make us want to come back again and again!

Incredibly delicious Maultaschen (swabian ravioli)! Especially the spinach and mountain cheese pasta. Amazing. The salads are also delicious. The potato salad is homemade and a real treat. The manager is a true local. Really nice and funny. We made lunch reservations with a larger group, along with an Esslingen city raft. We'd love to go again. It was fantastic!

Delicious food, friendly service and talkative chef

I went there for lunch with colleagues on a weekday. The restaurant was very busy. Nevertheless, we were served promptly and didn't have to wait long for our drinks or food. I had Tyrolean schnitzel with salad. The portion was generous and the food tasted good. I would recommend the restaurant and would happily go back.

Delicious Maultaschen (swabian ravioli), friendly service, and a lovely terrace at the Hafenmarkt. We were lucky to find space on the terrace for an hour with our dogs. Unfortunately, dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant because the kitchen isn't separated from the dining area by a door. Therefore, I have to deduct one point.

We were there on a Friday evening and they tried very hard to get us a table despite no existing reservation. We sat outside and it was lovely. Very pleasant quiet atmosphere. We didn't have to wait long for food and drinks. The salad was very tasty and a sufficient portion. Price performance great. Staff all very friendly. Toilets were super clean and there was deodorant and tampons just in case.

Great Maultaschen, good non-alcoholic beer and nice, good service. Since it's so good and the location is rather small, it quickly becomes a bit tight. I would still like to come back.

SO GOOD! This place has award winning food, and it shows. Delicious! I think it’s called ‘moutaschin’? Mine was salmon and spinach. Husband’s had tomatoes on top. So good! The dining room was crowded, but it was also cozy and friendly. The cherry/cream dessert was heavenly. An excellent end to the meal. Our server was right to recommend it. Thanks!! English menu and English-speaking server added to our comfort level. We’ll be back!

Food and service was excellent. We visited Saturday evening and the restaurant was full. Because it is so small, it becomes very loud and difficult to have a conversation.

The modern interior with local oil paintings from Esslingen creates a stylish atmosphere. When the weather is nice, the charming outdoor area under the trees invites you to linger. The friendly staff, who organized a table for us despite our late request, and the fast service round off the positive experience. For all Maultaschen lovers, “Mattis” is an absolute must in Esslingen. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Opening hours are 11.45am to 2pm (Mon to Sat) and 5.30pm to 10pm (Wed to Sat), closed on Sundays. Reservations highly recommended. During our lunch, we tried a seasonal special - venison maultaschen served with red cabbage and topped with berries. This was hearty and very delicious. We also tried a fried mushroom maultaschen that was pretty good as well, something vegetarian diners can opt for if wanted to try this restaurant. Service was. very friendly and timely. Environs casual, dish prices very reasonable for the portion sizes and dish quality. We really liked this restaurant and would gladly eat here again if finding ourselves in Esslingen again.

The paradise for Maultaschen fans!!!! There are also sweet Maultaschen for dessert. A modern restaurant with great oil paintings from Esslingen. A super nice and friendly boss who reserved a table for us at short notice! We had the classic and the "Tyrolean" with mushroom sauce. The wine was from the Bayer winery. Delicious!

Restaurant specializing in Maultaschen of various types. Very good quality and also tastes very tasty. Of course there are several options and dishes, various salads, soup, dessert. Location is very nice and well-kept, modernly furnished and has a beautiful terrace outside that is almost always full. The staff is very friendly and nice and tries to reach and serve all customers at the same time. Lunch is very popular and some people who work in the area like to come over. Very nice view, under the trees and next to a beautiful and old fountain always decorated with flowers.

The Maultaschen are delicious. When served on salad, they cool quickly - and the salad becomes warm. The service is not very flexible, a mix of Maultaschen varieties is not possible.

Were there today, it was opened especially for us and another group, the 2nd time there. There are better Maultaschen nowhere. I found the one with mountain cheese the best. Was a buffet. 3 different types, 3 sauces, potato salad and normal. Very nice boss who took great care of our well-being. It definitely wasn't the last time I/we were there. Keep it up

Wonderful place. The food is fantastic, usually they are very busy with reservations. The salad with Mattis original is the perfect balance of carbs, protein, and vegetables. They also have English menu if needed.

Whenever I'm in Esslingen I go to Mattis once to eat. That tasted very good again. Not just the Maultaschen but also the salads. The potato salad is like mothers used to make. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

For some reason all the reviews of the restaurant are gone. It is still open and still as good as usual. In my opinion, everything is perfect here - friendly, uncomplicated service and incredibly tasty dishes. I can recommend it without compromise.

Very popular, great Maultaschen restaurant in Esslingen. Dishes are fresh and prepared in many variations. There are always several vegetarian versions on offer that are just as tasty or even “tastier” than the original versions. Always fresh salads too. The selection of drinks is also very well sorted, including Berg beer - you definitely can't go wrong. On Saturdays at lunchtime you should make a reservation, but you can always spontaneously find a place and try to find something, just ask - a drink is also provided and you can quickly pass the time on the wide stairs. In summer, the beautiful terrace in front of the restaurant on the shady and pleasant harbor market is ideal! Absolute recommendation and if the really good service isn't enough for you, you really can't help it!

Super good! The best Swabian Maultaschen! The food is very tasty and there are always changing highlights every month. Service is great, very friendly and uncomplicated! You can sit well inside and outside in summer. Unfortunately, all old reviews appear to have been deleted (around 500 reviews with a total of 4.8). Hopefully they can be restored.

The restaurant was more of a chance find, but a really great one! We were really excited about the Asian Maultaschen (Asian vegetables, chicken breast with peanut sauce and a salad of your choice (potato salad and mixed salad). Highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

Ate great vegetarian Maultaschen. Especially the ones with mountain cheese. Super nice and fast service. There was also mountain beer for €3.90 a half. What more could you want! We're looking forward to coming back in the summer and sitting outside.

The food was very good and the staff was also nice and attentive. The owner came and asked if everything was OK. O. be. Ambiance was nice, unfortunately noisy due to the many people. Unfortunately it's so loud almost everywhere. But I'm going back. The Maultaschen are really great and so is the potato salad. We enjoyed it.

I stopped by there spontaneously and managed to get a spot even though it was actually already fully booked. Nice people, great atmosphere and of course fantastic Maultaschen! If I'm in Esslingen again, I'll come back!
