A restaurant dedicated solely to Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli), and a really good one at that. We had the classic version in broth and the Christmas version. It was absolutely perfect for our tastes. For dessert, we treated ourselves to the Winter Dream, which completely won us over.

For me, these are the best Maultaschen I've ever eaten, especially the classic ones. We were there for a christening, and everything was beautifully decorated. The staff and owner were very friendly.

We'd go back anytime. Very friendly service and delicious Maultaschen at fair prices. We're from Saxony-Anhalt, and after eating Maultaschen for the first time last year at another restaurant in Esslingen, I said "never again." Now I'm glad I gave them a second chance. We'll definitely be back on one of our next visits to our grandchildren. Maultaschen are only available at Mattis. 😊

Excellent location if you want to enjoy authentic Swabian Maultaschen with potato salad. From arrival to finishing the plate, it took just 25 minutes. The dessert was also excellent. The potato salad is of a very high standard, significantly better than most other offerings.

This place can only be given 5 stars. Whenever I'm in Esslingen, I always wish I could visit Mattis ;-) Simply unbelievably delicious, fast, great service, and there's always a place for us. It's always a highlight for me and I highly recommend it.

With a lovely visitor from Hesse, we ended up at Mattis at Esslingen's Hafenmarkt and spent a wonderful evening. The Maultaschen (swabian pasta) with various fillings were delicious, and the potato salad was even better! The very friendly service and the ambiance in this beautiful square make us want to come back again and again!

Incredibly delicious Maultaschen (swabian ravioli)! Especially the spinach and mountain cheese pasta. Amazing. The salads are also delicious. The potato salad is homemade and a real treat. The manager is a true local. Really nice and funny. We made lunch reservations with a larger group, along with an Esslingen city raft. We'd love to go again. It was fantastic!

Delicious food, friendly service and talkative chef

I went there for lunch with colleagues on a weekday. The restaurant was very busy. Nevertheless, we were served promptly and didn't have to wait long for our drinks or food. I had Tyrolean schnitzel with salad. The portion was generous and the food tasted good. I would recommend the restaurant and would happily go back.

Delicious Maultaschen (swabian ravioli), friendly service, and a lovely terrace at the Hafenmarkt. We were lucky to find space on the terrace for an hour with our dogs. Unfortunately, dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant because the kitchen isn't separated from the dining area by a door. Therefore, I have to deduct one point.

We were there on a Friday evening and they tried very hard to get us a table despite no existing reservation. We sat outside and it was lovely. Very pleasant quiet atmosphere. We didn't have to wait long for food and drinks. The salad was very tasty and a sufficient portion. Price performance great. Staff all very friendly. Toilets were super clean and there was deodorant and tampons just in case.

Great Maultaschen, good non-alcoholic beer and nice, good service. Since it's so good and the location is rather small, it quickly becomes a bit tight. I would still like to come back.

SO GOOD! This place has award winning food, and it shows. Delicious! I think it’s called ‘moutaschin’? Mine was salmon and spinach. Husband’s had tomatoes on top. So good! The dining room was crowded, but it was also cozy and friendly. The cherry/cream dessert was heavenly. An excellent end to the meal. Our server was right to recommend it. Thanks!! English menu and English-speaking server added to our comfort level. We’ll be back!

For all Maultaschen lovers, “Mattis” is an absolute must in Esslingen. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

We recently made a day trip to Esslingen from Stuttgart and had lunch at Mattis on Hafenmarkt. This is a restaurant specialises in Maultaschen (filled dumplings) and other Swabian region dishes. Opening hours are 11.45am to 2pm (Mon to Sat) and 5.30pm to 10pm (Wed to Sat), closed on Sundays. Reservations highly recommended. During our lunch, we tried a seasonal special - venison maultaschen served with red cabbage and topped with berries. This was hearty and very delicious. We also tried a fried mushroom maultaschen that was pretty good as well, something vegetarian diners can opt for if wanted to try this restaurant. Service was. very friendly and timely. Environs casual, dish prices very reasonable for the portion sizes and dish quality. We really liked this restaurant and would gladly eat here again if finding ourselves in Esslingen again.

A super nice and friendly boss who reserved a table for us at short notice! We had the classic and the "Tyrolean" with mushroom sauce. The wine was from the Bayer winery. Delicious!

Restaurant specializing in Maultaschen of various types. Very good quality and also tastes very tasty. Of course there are several options and dishes, various salads, soup, dessert. Location is very nice and well-kept, modernly furnished and has a beautiful terrace outside that is almost always full. The staff is very friendly and nice and tries to reach and serve all customers at the same time. Lunch is very popular and some people who work in the area like to come over. Very nice view, under the trees and next to a beautiful and old fountain always decorated with flowers.

The Maultaschen are delicious. When served on salad, they cool quickly - and the salad becomes warm. The service is not very flexible, a mix of Maultaschen varieties is not possible.

The best Maultaschen I've tasted in Germany. The salad and potato salad is also very good. Without a reservation it is difficult to get a table but the people are very friendly and open. So worthy! we will come again and again.

Were there today, it was opened especially for us and another group, the 2nd time there. There are better Maultaschen nowhere. I found the one with mountain cheese the best. Was a buffet. 3 different types, 3 sauces, potato salad and normal. Very nice boss who took great care of our well-being. It definitely wasn't the last time I/we were there. Keep it up
