SO GOOD! This place has award winning food, and it shows. Delicious! I think it’s called ‘moutaschin’? Mine was salmon and spinach. Husband’s had tomatoes on top. So good! The dining room was crowded, but it was also cozy and friendly. The cherry/cream dessert was heavenly. An excellent end to the meal. Our server was right to recommend it. Thanks!! English menu and English-speaking server added to our comfort level. We’ll be back!

The friendly staff, who organized a table for us despite our late request, and the fast service round off the positive experience. For all Maultaschen lovers, “Mattis” is an absolute must in Esslingen. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

We recently made a day trip to Esslingen from Stuttgart and had lunch at Mattis on Hafenmarkt. This is a restaurant specialises in Maultaschen (filled dumplings) and other Swabian region dishes. During our lunch, we tried a seasonal special - venison maultaschen served with red cabbage and topped with berries. This was hearty and very delicious. We also tried a fried mushroom maultaschen that was pretty good as well, something vegetarian diners can opt for if wanted to try this restaurant. Service was. very friendly and timely. Environs casual, dish prices very reasonable for the portion sizes and dish quality. We really liked this restaurant and would gladly eat here again if finding ourselves in Esslingen again.

We had a wonderful evening as friends. The service is very good and the Maultaschen are the best we have ever tasted. In response to our requests, there was a great recommendation from the kitchen. The paradise for Maultaschen fans!!!! There are also sweet Maultaschen for dessert. A modern restaurant with great oil paintings from Esslingen. A super nice and friendly boss who reserved a table for us at short notice! We had the classic and the "Tyrolean" with mushroom sauce. The wine was from the Bayer winery. Delicious!

Restaurant specializing in Maultaschen of various types. Very good quality and also tastes very tasty. Of course there are several options and dishes, various salads, soup, dessert. Location is very nice and well-kept, modernly furnished and has a beautiful terrace outside that is almost always full. The staff is very friendly and nice and tries to reach and serve all customers at the same time. Lunch is very popular and some people who work in the area like to come over. Very nice view, under the trees and next to a beautiful and old fountain always decorated with flowers.

We go here every time we visit Esslingen. A “must” for us. The menu is adjusted seasonally. Nice terrace in summer.

The Maultaschen are delicious. When served on salad, they cool quickly - and the salad becomes warm. The service is not very flexible, a mix of Maultaschen varieties is not possible.

The best Maultaschen I've tasted in Germany. The salad and potato salad is also very good. Without a reservation it is difficult to get a table but the people are very friendly and open. So worthy! we will come again and again.

Were there today, it was opened especially for us and another group, the 2nd time there. There are better Maultaschen nowhere. I found the one with mountain cheese the best. Was a buffet. 3 different types, 3 sauces, potato salad and normal. Very nice boss who took great care of our well-being. It definitely wasn't the last time I/we were there. Keep it up

Wonderful place. The food is fantastic, usually they are very busy with reservations. The salad with Mattis original is the perfect balance of carbs, protein, and vegetables. They also have English menu if needed.

Whenever I'm in Esslingen I go to Mattis once to eat. That tasted very good again. Not just the Maultaschen but also the salads. The potato salad is like mothers used to make. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

We were at Mattis with a group of 14 people and had Markus present us with a colorful mix of his delicious Maultaschen. It was a great experience for everyone to taste these homemade Maulis in many variations. I'm already looking forward to the next visit. Best regards Jurgen

For some reason all the reviews of the restaurant are gone. It is still open and still as good as usual. In my opinion, everything is perfect here - friendly, uncomplicated service and incredibly tasty dishes. I can recommend it without compromise.

Very popular, great Maultaschen restaurant in Esslingen. Dishes are fresh and prepared in many variations. There are always several vegetarian versions on offer that are just as tasty or even “tastier” than the original versions. Always fresh salads too. The selection of drinks is also very well sorted, including Berg beer - you definitely can't go wrong. On Saturdays at lunchtime you should make a reservation, but you can always spontaneously find a place and try to find something, just ask - a drink is also provided and you can quickly pass the time on the wide stairs. In summer, the beautiful terrace in front of the restaurant on the shady and pleasant harbor market is ideal! Absolute recommendation and if the really good service isn't enough for you, you really can't help it!

Super good! The best Swabian Maultaschen! The food is very tasty and there are always changing highlights every month. Service is great, very friendly and uncomplicated! You can sit well inside and outside in summer. Unfortunately, all old reviews appear to have been deleted (around 500 reviews with a total of 4.8). Hopefully they can be restored.

The restaurant was more of a chance find, but a really great one! We were really excited about the Asian Maultaschen (Asian vegetables, chicken breast with peanut sauce and a salad of your choice (potato salad and mixed salad). Highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

Ate great vegetarian Maultaschen. Especially the ones with mountain cheese. Super nice and fast service. There was also mountain beer for €3.90 a half. What more could you want! We're looking forward to coming back in the summer and sitting outside.

The food was very good and the staff was also nice and attentive. The owner came and asked if everything was OK. O. be. Ambiance was nice, unfortunately noisy due to the many people. Unfortunately it's so loud almost everywhere. But I'm going back. The Maultaschen are really great and so is the potato salad. We enjoyed it.

Mega leckeres Essen in schönem Ambiente mit top Service.

Superlecker, ganz liebe Gastgeber, faire Preise...wir kommen gerne und jederzeit wieder! Dann aber, und jetzt kommen wir zum einen Stern Abzug, mit Klamotten, die eh in die Wäsche müssen. Offenbar ist die Ent/Lüftung unzureichend, alle unsere Sachen riechen jetzt intensiv nach Maultaschen. Aber wenn das weiß, ist das kein Problem. :) Wie gesagt, das kann uns vom Genuss des Rests nicht abhalten.

Am 13.12. sind wir abends ohne Reservierung bei Mattis eingekehrt und haben einen Tisch ergattern können. Die Bedienung war super nett und zuvorkommend. Die Maultaschen..... Noch nie so leckere Maultaschen gegessen. Die Streifen waren knusprig gebraten, der Kartoffelsalat super. Wenn wir nochmal nach Esslingen kommen, steht Mattis definitiv auf unserer Liste.

Sehr zu empfehlen,waren gestern vor Ort ohne Reservierung und haben sofort einen Tisch bekommen. Sehr freundliches und aufmerksames Personal. Netter kleiner Laden mit leckeren selbstgemachten Maultaschen. Auch der schwäbische Kartoffelsalat ist hausgemacht und ziemlich gut. Schöne Getränkeauswahl. Die Kürbismaultaschen hätten m. E. etwas mehr Pfeffer vertragen können, aber das ist auch das einzige was es für mich zu meckern gibt. 😉Service ist top (aufmerksam und sehr freundlich) und die Preise absolut fair.

Beste Maultaschen. Qualitativ hochwertig und gute regionale Zutaten. Alle Varianten sind gut. Wir hatten mit Kürbis, mit Bergkäse und Klassik. Man kann sie mischen. Die Atmosphäre ist angenehm. Das ist keine schlechte Idee auch für das Geschäftliche : um den Gästen regionale Küche zu zeigen.

Um 14.00, als eigentlich schon geschlossen wurde hat dieses Restaurant uns noch empfangen. Das Restaurant liegt in der Innenstadt, Autos können dort nicht gut fahren. Wir wollten so nah ran wie möglich, da eine Person schlecht laufen kann. Der Chef hat dann höchstpersönlich sein Auto umgeparkt, damit wir direkt vor der Tür parken können! Die Maultaschen mit Kürbis und Salat waren einfach nur köstlich und das Preis Leistung Verhältnis ist ebenfalls außergewöhnlich. Kann man nur empfehlen, wir werden wieder kommen!

Super Restaurant. Wir waren heute zum ersten Mal dort. Esser war super lecker, Service maximal freundlich und schnell, die Preise sind absolut ok. Was will man mehr? Hier gibt es noch richtige Viertele😍. Oft bekommt man ja nur eine Mogelpackung. Und das im Schwabenland😢. Hier jedenfalls nicht! Wir kommen 100% öfter.

We came for lunch and enjoyed their buffet. It consisted of 4 different types of Maultaschen: classic, vegetarian, feta, and pumpkin. It also included potato salad and a side salad.

Super Service. Leckere vielfältige Maultaschen. Viele vegetarische Optionen. Immer frisch gemacht. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich, wie wichtig ihnen Nachhaltigkeit ist, es gibt keine Plastik- oder Pappboxen, man bekommt das Essen ToGo in Dosen auf die ein Pfand gezahlt wird oder in selbst mitgebrachte Boxen. Auch der Einsatz gegen Corona war vorbildlich. Wirklich toller Laden.

Preis Leistung stimmt voll und ganz und passt zur Qualität des Essens. Alles sehr sauber und ordentlich. Die Speisekarte bietet eine große Auswahl. Für Liebhaber von Maultaschen aber auch für alle die einfach gute essen mögen ein wirklicher Genuss.

Sehr nettes Personal und gute Verarbeitung. War wegen einer Firmenfeier dort und kann zu den Preis nichts sagen. Es gab eine große Auswahl an Maultaschen. Jede Variante war von guter Qualität. Wenn ja mal wieder in der Nähe bin komme ich wieder.
