MASTAN in Berlin

Excellent French restaurant, exquisite fried oysters, superb eggplant, and the pork belly was super tasty. We were well advised on the wines :)

Being French in Germany can be difficult, but not if you’re visiting MASTAN. Best food experience in Berlin. Probably the most delicious beef I’ve had this year. It was possible to order both Béarnaise and pepper sauce. Go here or miss out.

Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience with the Mastan restaurant. I canceled my reservation over the phone, and the staff member (Yannick) expressly confirmed that there would be no cancellation fee. Nevertheless, €80 was subsequently charged to my credit card. My inquiry was followed by a standardized email with a reference to the booking conditions – without consideration of the specific situation or the commitment made. This is not how you treat guests. Transparency and reliability look like something else. After this experience, I will not recommend the restaurant to anyone – what a shame.

Went there for dinner and left disappointed by the price in relation to the quality of the dishes. Atmosphere was great but the service made simple mistakes like leaving some dishes sitting on the bar unattended for quite some time. Won't be back unless they readjust the price according to what they offer.

Friendly French waiters, good wine list, food is good for Berlin standards. Taste and quality was good. Two points though: No fresh bearnaise sauce with the steak, but a cold mayonnaise styled small little pot. French fries with the steak where a bit sad. not what i expect from a bib gourmand French brasserie. Above all we had to wait over an hour for a steak and 2 tunas. Chef nowhere to be seen… I don’t think the owners where there

Excellent service. A bottle was opened for the wine recommendation, and a tasting sip was offered. The appetizers of yellowtail mackerel and beef tagliata were excellent. The main course of plancha-cooked tuna, including all the trimmings, was delicious. The confit pork belly was very tender, but the skin wasn't crispy. Very good French bistro cuisine. Thank you, very good.

Lovely food and atmosphere, and the best service we’ve had in Berlin.

You can see the chef's ambition. The Michelin Guide recommendation is definitely justified. However, the food was lacking. It took a long time between courses, but the service was excellent. The food was very good, but it needs a bit more for a star. Still, it was absolutely fantastic, although the tables were very close together; at times, it was difficult to hear the person sitting opposite due to the groups.

Yesterday, I was at the Mastan restaurant with my wife and sister for our 17th wedding anniversary, and I can only say: We were all very impressed and pleasantly surprised! The service, the ambiance, and above all, the excellent food impressed us and left us very satisfied! Big praise to the two owners and the two employees who served us!! This certainly won't be our last time there!! We can only recommend the Mastan!! 👍👍😊 Thank you again for the lovely evening!!

Very nice restaurant 👍🏼 A very cool dish was the asparagus with lardo, prawn bisque and bitter oranges! 10 out of 10! Wonderful Basque black pudding! The texture, taste and portion were outstanding! Outstanding neighbourhood french bistro. Highly recommend.

A new place in Guide Michelin - but should not be there in the first place. Chef is not worthy. We usually only go to restaurants from Michelin, and lived in extensively around the world. The service was amazing all around, but could not make up for bland tastes. Charcuterie was good Cheese plate - a laugh of 4 cheeses - price it €30 EUR but bring not 10 grams for €12 White asparagus - if you put it in shellfish sauce - it should be sublime and with more notes than just straight fishy. Wurst with octopus - chewy and salty, wurst oily. Cauliflower main dish - what’s with the texture of the vegetable and strong acidity of the sauce ( Steak and fries was the best of everything. But for that you can go to a place around the corner - nothing special. Not worth the drive .

We were there for their Bouillabaisse, which was lovely, served in a tureen with fresh filets and mussels (geographically and seasonally strategic), lots of baguette and fixings, but the kitchen and wait staff are flexible and helpful about substitutions if we had wanted them. Friendly, neighborhood place, if your neighborhood were to be a slightly upscale one in or near Marseilles.

We have now been to Mastan 3 times and we felt delighted every time. It's like a little vacation in France. The staff are super friendly and on the ball (bilingual “real French” :-)) The food is simply good and the place is simply beautiful. What more could you want?!

Came to Mastan for a dinner with friends who were visiting Berlin. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted of quality and our server Yannick was exceptional, very attentive and really added to the dining experience there. Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Mastan and will definitely be back

Realllly disappointed with this one as the space and the ambience of the restaurant is 👌 However, service is lacking somewhat. While each were really nice, we had 3 different people serve us which meant the overall flow of the night was disjointed and was in no way attentive. People deserve better for this price point! Edit: was probably harsh on the food which was okay. Some improvements needed on the overall experience.

Had a lovely experience here, especially thanks to the fantastic service—super friendly and truly went above and beyond to make the evening enjoyable. The food was a mix for me. The black pudding with buttery mashed potatoes was absolutely delicious, and the crème anglaise was a perfect way to end the meal. However, the amberjack in citrus marinade was a bit too acidic for my taste, though that’s just personal preference. Overall, a great spot with excellent hospitality and some really well-executed dishes!

Was at Mastan again today. The standard of food and service is still very high, I just enjoy going there. It's French and more original and better than the restaurants in Paris where I just went. Price performance is good, best French restaurant that I know in Berlin

This is a small French restaurant in the middle of Berlin, I recommend a reservation. I went here on a Wednesday because I heard they serve Bouillabaisse on Wednesdays and after visiting I can say that I was not disappointed. This was the very best Bouillabaisse I’ve ever had. The portions were very generous, the fish was delicious, the wine was paired well and the staff is very professional and seem to know what they are doing. I should mention the wine selection here is top tier and don’t miss the desserts. I recommend this place and will visit again.

30 minutes after we gave the order, they told us that both of the Starter Dishes were not available anymore, so we ordered Salami!! We've waited 1 hour and 45 minutes to have our Main Dish, which was tasty but a bit salty. Both Waiter and Waitress were very polite but inefficient. They had to serve 12 tables alone. Please hire more people when the Restaurant is full.

Go out for an exquisite French meal without having to take out a loan afterwards... and in the heart of Kreuzberg too. Excellent service! Some neighbors may not like it either, my favorite Frenchman in Berlin!

Very tasty food and good service at good prices

It's difficult not to give 5 stars as this establishment lacked our quality of life in Berlin. No need to know that the chef comes from the kitchens of star restaurants because the plate speaks for itself: great mastery of cooking and sauces. It is a neat and strongly inspired bistro cuisine with often Mediterranean colors. Not to be missed: every Wednesday it's Bouillabaisse (reserve!!), the best I've ever eaten. The service is also elegant and very intentional. The wines are equally excellent. A small place, a very big house.

This evening was a highlight! MASTAN knows how to capture the soul of French cuisine while adding a modern twist. Perfect dishes, great wines, delicious desserts, excellent service and an ambience that invites you to relax. Unreserved recommendation for all lovers of French cuisine and for all those curious who want to discover this great cuisine. TOP quality at a reasonable price! We are already looking forward to my next visit.

Wonderful, warm restaurant where I have been able to spend a lot of lovely evenings with my girlfriend. If you want to experience French cuisine at a high level in Berlin, you can't avoid this restaurant. The pies, tartares and especially the monkfish dishes always made me go home happy. It's rare to find a restaurant in Berlin - I don't know any - where the wine prices are calculated so fairly! Chapeau

NEVER AGAIN!! Went there yesterday with my girlfriend and food and the service was actually pretty good BUT we had the Sommeliere recommend us a bottle of red wine. We told him specifically what kind of wine we like and what kind we don't. We were looking for a heavy, oily red wine. He recommended us a bottle for 80€ (which in Berlin is a decent price for a good bottle of wine). Before he opened the bottle he told us that he really hopes for us to like the wine and that he will take it back and drink it with his colleagues if we don't like it. We all laughed and agreed on this. The moment he poured the wine into the glass we could already tell by the color that this wine is definitely not what we were looking for and after tasting it my girlfriend said to the Som. that this not the type of wine we like and wanted. He apologized and wanted to bring us a new one but returned a few minutes later with the same open bottle and told us that his Chef ( the owner of the restaurant) told him we need to pay for the bottle because he opened it for us. I was speechless and didn't know what to say. The Sommelier told us that it's not his decision and that he will make a deal with us and only charge us 50%. I was so shocked about this whole circus and was to tired to make a scene that I somehow agreed to this and we tried to drink the wine but ended up paying for it and left it there so he could have the rest with his colleagues as he attended it in the first place. To make a long story short this kind of behavior is an absolute NO GO. I won't go back and definitely won't recommend it to anyone!

To call yourself French cuisine you should first be able to cook French. It doesn't get any better if you call it southern French cuisine and emphasize it by dumping a sack of savory over the perfectly prepared and fried artichokes. The restaurant was well attended, and my impression was that some guests at least found the artichokes in savory sponges to be very interesting. Yes, that's how the south of France eats.

I'm French and I tried Mastan recently, I was there during a bouillabaisse evening, authentic!!! The service was attentive and professional and the wine list: with a balanced choice between price and quality. As a result, we returned with colleagues who were as delighted with the elaborate starters as the dishes: taste, creativity, French traditions and freshness... On our two visits we were delighted, Mastan: made us loyal.

Nice shop + great staff, but unfortunately the food disappointed me today: - Artichokes incompletely peeled (hard) - Fish with risotto too salty - Mousse au chocolat only tasted of salt and sugar Overall unbalanced. And for the money you can get much better at the Brasserie Tim Raue, for example. I thought the espresso (fruity bean) and Negroni (great mix) were great.

The Mastan impresses with real French cuisine - without any frills, but with a healthy dose of creativity. Every single dish was convincing.

The food is good. The wine selection is outstanding and the service is top notch. We will happily sit down at the bar again and drink our way through the wine list. :)

Sehr gutes französisches Essen, keine Sternegastronomie sondern gehobene Bistrotküche zu angemessenen Preisen. Das ist gefragt. Sehr guter Wein, zu fairen Preisen. Super Service. Gute Atmosphäre, nettes Publikum. Sehr gemischt. Noch nie enttäuscht worden. Immer wieder. es macht Spaß hier zu sein und das ist was wert.

Very friendly service. The menu is clear, but that doesn't bother you if the few things are perfect. The food is good, but in my opinion without sophistication or recognizable signature. In the tuna tartare (too) many capers obscured the delicate taste, the chicken was tender and juicy on the bone, but the breast piece was unfortunately dry. What is unfortunately very unpleasant is the cheap metal seating outside, extremely uncomfortable and tiny. It's no fun to stay there. I'll come back again in the winter, the Mastan will probably be perceived completely differently then, with authentic French cuisine, at least that's what I hope. Good luck on the way! P.S. I'm sorry if I described the seating as cheap, of course there are also expensive versions. Unfortunately, the price does not make the furniture more comfortable and spacious. A small seat cushion would be nice.

Food & service absolutely excellent!

I love this restaurant which is why I have given it 5 stars. It has a great atmosphere, good food and wine, and very competent and kind wait staff. I was thinking to give it just 4 stars though due to the lack of care for vegetarians. Admittedly this is a problem of French culture and cuisine. Try being a vegetarian in Paris! The problem for me at Mastan is that though they do have one vegetarian starter and main, my experience was that the two dishes had virtually the same ingredients (carrot and other root vegetables). In the starter the carrot and root vegetables were served as a tempura and in the main they were served in a vol au vent. I would have expected a chef at such a good restaurant to have designed a starter and main for vegetarians that complemented each other. I was envying my husband’s fish/meat starter and main that had complementary sharp and complex taste profiles (with marinated beetroot, saffran risotto and fennel). Just writing this review in the hope that Mastan will read it as I would like to go back and have a better experience as a vegetarian!

Heute spontan mit meiner Frau zum Essen. Höflich und nett Tisch sofort bekommen, das kennt man auch anders. Essen wie immer von besonderer Qualität, gekonnt gekocht und originell. Die Sepia mit eigener Tinte in Broccolipüree war sehr sehr gut und das Huhn von Odefrey , köstlich. Der Anspruch ist nicht Sterneküche und das ist genau richtig. Eigentlich bürgerliche Gerichte, die aber extrem sorgfältig und besonders zubereitet werden. Das kriegt man am eigenen Herd nie so hin, oder man ist ein super Koch mit ganz viel Zeit. Offene Weine, top und fair im Preis. Service super zuvorkommend, schnell und zugewandt. Ein gutes Restaurant braucht so einen Service. Preis: ist es wert. als Berliner: man kann nicht meckern

Visited Mastan, where the chef must've mistaken the saffron for gold, given the prices. Combining saffron with a salt mine's worth of seasoning? Flip flops and a tuxedo would have paired better than that. If this is French cuisine, then my microwave deserves a Michelin star.

Excellent restaurant français sur Berlin : un bonheur ! Chef exigent et perfectionniste avec beaucoup d’audace dans l’assiette autour d’une cuisine traditionnelle délicatement revisitée. Foie gras, saint-Jacques, viandes extras : nous nous sommes régalés ! À noter un choix de vins exceptionnel qui ne peut que plaire aux épicuriens ! Nous recommandons les yeux fermés.

Waren hier zum Weihnachtsessen. Kommentarlose Bedienung. Alle Gänge waren unmotiviert und „Gemüsebrühelastig“. Ich würde für das Geld keinem empfehlen hier vegetarisch essen zu gehen.

Für diese Preisklasse war das Essen zu langweilig und zu wenig. Hinzukommt, dass eine Servicekraft einen extrem uninspirierten Tag hatte (der Wein wurde lieblos so eingegossen, dass gleich das Tischtuch schmutzig war, die 0,1 wurden eher nicht erreicht, der Käseteller zum Dessert nur abgestellt, dann drehte sie ohne ein Wort der Erklärung sofort ab usw).

Fantastic! Service was impeccable, food was delicious, creative and substantial. Great quality of ingredients and well priced.

Das Ambiente ist recht gemütlich. Der Service ist freundlich und bemüht, die Beratung insbesondere bei den Weinen könnte besser sein. Das Essen war ok, hat aber keinen bleibenden Eindruck bei mir hinterlassen. Geschmacklich etwas langweilig, auch wenn bestimmt gute, frische Produkte verwendet wurden. Irgendwie fehlte mir der geschmackliche Pfiff, den ich sonst von der französischen Bistro-Küche kenne.

Came here for a birthday meal so we were looking for something a bit special and didn't mind paying a bit more than average. Food and service were both top notch. I had the mussels au gratin, stuffed quail, and pistachio crème brûlée which were all fantastic especially the mussels. The waiters were very attentive but not overbearing, and the in-house Sommelier helped us choose a great wine. I would definitely come here again on a special occasion

Lovely little place, me and my wife go back quite a bit and the menu is constantly changing so there's always something interesting to try. Service is perfect, not too intrusive but attentive. Awesome wine list too. Have brought groups of our friends here as well as dates nights and the place works for all occasions. Just don't tell everyone about it though!

Mastan is slowly becoming a regular night out for me and my wife. Lovely lovely restaurant hidden away slightly but so worth the search. Have been a number of times and the food has always been interesting and excellent. Great wines and proper attentive French service. What more could you want?!

Wir waren heute zum ersten Mal hier, aber sicher nicht zum letzten Mal. Ein freundlicher und warmherziger Empfang durch Yannick hat gleich eine wohlige Atmosphäre geschaffen. Die Karte ist überschaubar, was immer ein gutes Zeichen ist. Wir wurden nicht enttäuscht, alle Speisen waren eine sehr gute Wahl. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhätnis stimmt für die Qualität. Die Weinkarte ist sehr umfangreich und die Empfehlungen passen.

Es ist ein cooles Restaurant in Kreuzberg. Ich war jetzt mehrmals innerhalb 4Monaten da, immer gut und Service nett und kompetent. Das Essen ist französische Bistroküche auf hohem Niveau, die Weine sind sehr gut ausgewählt und sehr fair kalkuliert. Da trinkt man schon mal ein Glas mehr, Die mittelmäßigen Bewertungen bisher verstehe ich nicht. Das ist hier ein Restaurant mit hohem Anspruch, der erfüllt wird. Einfach nett. Wer es billig haben will, muss woanders hin. Aber insgesamt: Ein richtig gutes Restaurant.

Grundsätzlich gehobenes Niveau, aber nicht detailverliebt. Keine mind-blowing experiences, aber sehr gute Ausführung bei Fleisch und Fischgerichten.

Essen hervorragend. Zu den Gängen passenden Wein zu finden ist bei nur wenig offenen nicht einfach.

We were a group of six and half of our friends ordered the tunafish and one of the tunafish was not prepared properly. We sent that dish back, advising the chef and hoping they would offer our friend and alternative, but they came back in a very accusatory tone, as if my friend was the one who did not have good taste. We felt they deliberately embarrassed her which put a negative feel on the evening, I’m a huge believer that customers always come first, especially given that there were six people at the table and only one had an issue. This should’ve been addressed promptly. The food in general was passable but not spectacular and therefore we can only give it overall a 2 out of 5. Even small things like not explaining what the cheese was through to the caper overload in the tartare.

Un restaurant français qui vaut absolument le détour!

Wir waren gestern das erste Mal im Mastan. Sehr freundliche und aufmerksame Mitarbeitende versorgen uns mit sehr schmackhaften Essen und gutem Wein. Preis/Leistung stimmt hier. Mein Highlight waren die Pfifferlinge mit pochiertem Ei. Ob des schönen Wetters saßen wir draußen. An der Gneisenau natürlich etwas lauter. Drinnen sah es sehr schön und gemütlich aus, wenn auch etwas eng bestuhlt. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

What a gem ! Newly opened in berlin, the restaurant is sober and chic. The atmosphere is very nice. The service excellent. The food is exquisite, the Chef knows clearly his job, the tenderness and sophistication of the meals are perfect. About the wines : the selection is as nice as the menu , you can have glasses of very good wines for 6 euros…the prices in general are more than fair for such a gastronomical experience and service. We will for sure come back. Highly recommended.
