It might not be the cheapest sushi place, but I could taste that. Any sushi lover who doesn't eat here is missing out and only has themselves to blame.

The sushi is a 10/10 – in my opinion, there's nothing better. It's quite expensive for the quality, at €1-4 per piece, but if you can afford it or are just treating yourself, it's fine. However, the ambiance doesn't feel quite as high-end.

I really don't understand how this restaurant can have such a high rating (4.5 stars!). For me, it was the worst sushi experience in all of Düsseldorf. The prices are completely overpriced, and the food was of terrible quality. The rice was sticky and dry, the fish had no flavor and wasn't fresh. After the meal, I had an unpleasant feeling of heaviness in my stomach the entire evening – simply awful. The atmosphere is unloving, the service unfriendly and rushed. There are countless sushi restaurants in Düsseldorf that offer much better food, a more pleasant atmosphere, and fair prices. I honestly can't recommend Maruyasu to anyone – it was an absolute disappointment for me, and every cent was wasted.

In one year, everything has become 50% more expensive. When I asked, "Why is it so expensive?" I was yelled at. But it's still the tastiest thing I know.

I visited Maruyasu in the Schadow Arcades and can only say: If there were six stars, I would give them! This restaurant has stood for authentic Japanese craftsmanship for decades – and you can taste it in every bite. Founder Akio Ando established Maruyasu back in the 1980s and continues to bring the essence of authentic Japanese cuisine to Düsseldorf. Upon entering, it's immediately apparent that this isn't about show or frills, but rather about freshness, quality, and tradition. At the counter, you'll find a huge selection of sushi – from classic nigiri to maki, inside-out rolls, and more refined varieties like otoro and chutoro. Everything is prepared right in front of the guests, with calm precision and true dedication. I tried several different sushi variations, and every piece was perfect: finely sliced, aromatic, simply delicious. The service is exceptionally friendly, and the couple who run the shop offer patient and warm advice – as if you were visiting friends. You can feel the passion they put into their work. The simple yet pleasant ambiance fits this perfectly – not fancy, but authentic – and that's precisely what makes it so charming. What I particularly liked: You can watch the sushi masters at work, and the feeling of experiencing a true Tokyo atmosphere in the heart of Düsseldorf is simply fantastic. Fresh, authentic, personable – Maruyasu is and remains my first choice for sushi in Düsseldorf. A piece of Japan in the Schadow Arcades. 5 out of 5 stars – unreserved recommendation!

This traditional sushi shop is located in the basement of the mall. The founder is said to have offered the first sushi-to-go in Germany. You order like you would at a cold cuts counter, which I really liked. You see delicious items that appeal to you and can then ask questions about the products. Admittedly, the manager was reserved, even a bit arrogant, in his answers, but that didn't detract from the quality of the food. It was incredibly tasty, and with a Japanese beer, everything was simply delicious. Unfortunately, the atmosphere has the feel of a train station snack bar—surely, it couldn't be arranged any differently in this location!? I would eat here again in a heartbeat :)

I highly recommend the sushi here. The selection is extensive, and the plates are freshly prepared. The grilled salmon is freshly flame-grilled so it's still warm. It'll quickly add up to €60 for two people, but the taste is worth it.

MARUYASU in Düsseldorf serves really fresh and tasty sushi. The quality is definitely there, and every bite feels authentic. It is a bit on the pricey side, but worth it if you’re after good Japanese food in the city

The Suhi here is one of the best not just in Germany but in the world (well from all the countries I've been to at least) Allerdings my main "sour grape" is that we've come all the way from Osnabrück (49090) just to visit again this special sushi place . . but you cAN NOT FEEL the WARMTH of the staffs here.. NOT AT ALL.. im an Asian and probably all the staffs think I'm a "putzman" or something because I don't wear proper "decent" clothes like other customers inside. i HAVE A VERY VERY STRONG FEELING THAT I HAVE BEEN PROFILED BY ALL THE STAFFS) WE'VE COME 100 KILOMETERS AND no one's coming in our table.. MEANWHILE. in der Zwischenzeit , you can see "THE CHEF" walking around giving away free food.. ...i repeat.. THE CHEF IS WALKING AROUND INSIDE THE RESTAURANT GIVING AWAY FREE FOOD TO THOSE customers with "Decent CLOTHES and Non-Asian like me" OUR total RECHNUNG is even 70+ EURos im Vergleich from what the other "decent customers" that he gave the free food 😢 its JUST HEARTBREAKING 💔💔 because all of them staffs are also Japanese (asian) but them decency to profile us US... (me, my wife and a 3 YEAR OLD TODDLER) SO IF YOU'RE ASIAN AND WANT A QUALITY TIME IN THIS RESTAURANT.. JUST ORDER THEIR DELICIOUS SUSHI AND THEN WEAR A BLINDFOLD RIGHT AFTER, ...AS YOU WILL NOT LIKE THAT CHEFS "racisty" attitude 😢

We've always enjoyed being here because the food is fresh and the atmosphere is otherwise pleasant. Unfortunately, I had an extremely negative experience today: The manager personally addressed me and called me a "shitty foreigner" while I was ordering, which was unusual for a German. Shortly afterward, he took a sip from his wine glass, which was behind him on the counter. Unimaginable and appalling behavior toward customers.

Very good food, but two points deducted for this insane plastic consumption: No one can tell me that EVERY SINGLE sushi roll has to be wrapped in plastic! My meal was wrapped in plastic 14 times, just for me! This is absolutely unjustifiable on hygiene grounds; otherwise, every other sushi restaurant would have to close. A reason not to eat there anymore, and I don't want to support that!

The place had great quality sushi, nice atmosphere, we really enjoyed the toro fish, the fish texture literally melted, I really enjoyed it! Note that credit cards are not accepted here, only a German bank card or cash.

Did the Don by Maruyasu in the food court. 5€ for fried rice and chicken sounds legit. Is a ripoff - just traces of chicken and chickenskin. Don‘t know what‘s up here.

It lives up to its good reputation in every way, and the prices are justified for the quality and ambiance. My recommendations are the inari, yakitori, and the tuna sushi. The offshoots (Maruyasu Don) are also highly recommended.

Very friendly staff, for larger orders to pick up I recommend the party plates.

Actually, they only serve sushi. I enjoyed it, but I'm no sushi expert. At rush hour, it can get as crowded as a factory cafeteria. The restaurant feel is somehow different.

Very tasty, authentic and great service

Maruyasu is going crazy with its prices. Prices have risen significantly, but unfortunately, quality hasn't. It's a self-service restaurant. You sit in a basement food court that's poorly ventilated. A restaurant's prices should also be commensurate with the service and ambiance.

This is by far the best sushi place. It compares to high quality sushi in Japan. Very authentic and great selection. Acceptance of card payment options could be improved.

The quality is even better than many places in Japan. The selection is unparalleled. There's been nothing to complain about for years. Simply perfect, and the (senior) boss himself is still behind the counter every weekend. A role model for every entrepreneur.

Best sushi in town, always a treat!

It was delicious. My unagi was flambéed on the spot. The staff was very friendly. We ordered takeout. Edit: Very delicious the second time around, too.

Food (sushi etc) is good. Not the best I've had but solid. When looking to combine different kinds of Japanese food for a quick lunch/dinner this is a good option. What I don't understand is the card payment policy. Why so few options for card payments? No credit cards supported at all.

The owner is very nice and all the employees have been friendly, so I have been coming here for several years, but one of the young female employees, who was small and round-eyed, suffered racial discrimination or something that was really scary. Normally, I had fun choosing what I wanted to eat and eating it, but while I was choosing, they glared at me horribly and threw the sushi I had chosen on the plate, so I was so embarrassed that I ate it quickly and left. While I was making my choice, I even saw the employee behind me talking behind the scenes about the customer in front of me. Fortunately, the rest of the employees did not gossip behind my back. If a customer uses courtesy when he or she is treated with courtesy, that kind of employee should not be working at a restaurant. I can't forget those scary eyes. I really hope that the employee receives psychiatric counseling.

The selection was extensive and the food was served quickly. However, the taste of the sushi was average - not bad, but not outstanding either. The atmosphere in the restaurant was more functional than cozy, which is fine for a short visit. Service was efficient but not particularly attentive or friendly. For a quick bite, Maruyasu is suitable, but for a special sushi experience I would consider other options in Düsseldorf.

They have the most delicious sushi and the like here. We have never been here without Mr. Ando letting us try one of his new, delicious creations. The ambience is rather sober - like that found in Japan - which helps the taste buds to concentrate on the essentials. And they should definitely do that. Every piece of sushi, nigiri or maki, every bite of gyozas or yakitoris shows quality, care, craftsmanship and passion. So while you're here, enjoy the classics - and don't forget to ask Ando-san what he's created new. Dozo meshiagare!

I'm sorry, but this time (To Go, evening) was really disappointing. Everything tasted bland at best. The salmon was tough, the seaweed musty...not even supermarket quality at a great price.

A store run by the owner himself. He even played a video of himself dismantling a tuna, and I can see that he was very proud of himself. The method is to select each sushi prepared in the showcase and set it up. You can taste the oily tuna meat in Germany, and after you choose sushi such as mackerel, eel, or anago, they grill it separately with a torch and even set the sauce. Don't miss it just because it's plain. The scallop sushi melted in your mouth so it was a great starter! It seemed like there was a little too much rice, but the quality of the raw fish was good, so it was a happy meal.

The first time we came here was about 10 years ago and we were excited to return here. The waitingline was short, shorter than I thought it would be. The prices vary from 90 cents for the maki's to about a maximum of 3.90 for the nigiri. There are also side dishes available like ebi tempura, korokke, edamame, wakame and spinach salad. We had a selection of sake maki, different nigiri, and 2 rolls. As side dishes we chose yakitori, spinach salad, edamame, ebi tempura and deepfried onion and springonion in batter. I was a bit sad that some sushi and side dishes we chose were drowning in sauce. The deep fried dishes were very soggy and not very flavorful. Maybe that's why the sauce was so abundant. The quality of the rice and fish are fine but covering sauce over good quality fish was just not my thing. The rolls with philadelphia cheese were a bit bland. We ended paying a bit more than €100,- which seemed a bit steep for the quality in my opinion. The staff was friendly and helpful when asked what to choose.

There is the best sushi I know here, especially the selection of very tasty nigiris is really strong. Whenever I'm in Düsseldorf, I always like to come back to this friendly restaurant.

Best Sushi I’ve ever had, great prices compared to the phenomenal quality. Everything is freshly prepared as if Dusseldorf is by the ocean. The Chiefs are friendly, professional and extremely nice. 10/10 highly recommend this hidden gem in Dusseldorf.

Standard cannot compare with authentic ramen restaurants, but acceptable in a foodcourt environment

This restaurant and their staff deserves all the praise they get. Without question the best sushi I’ve ever had has come from the hands of the people who have proudly run this place for over 40 years. The service is impeccable, the people are genuine and hardworking, and I can’t wait to come back. Big shoutout to Mr. Hiroaki!

This is Japan. A small sushi shop in the basement of the Schadow Arkaden. The furnishings are stylishly simple - exactly how it looks in a Japanese sushi shop. The service at the counter is very friendly - and the food is outstanding: high quality, fresh and simply good! The prices are reasonable. No credit cards, only German EC cards or cash.

I can't complain about the food. But I also don't have enough experience with Japanese cuisine and therefore have no comparison options. But it was tasty. Service was okay, but there is no table service. Organized more like a snack bar. The ambience also matches this.

My sushi sanctuary in Düsseldorf ❤️❤️❤️. Not only do I love their variety of delicious options but they make amazing chicken dumplings too. The staff is quite hospitable and friendly and they take the time to listen to your preferences and answer your questions about the food.

Asked for a tiny portion rice for the baby, the guy at the counter can't decide and asked for another lady to decide, then I was told a portion is 2.8 euro. It's very commercial and not humane / service oriented therefore I rate the service only 3 star. Food is very overpriced as well.

A modern and yet very cozy atmosphere invites you to linger. The coffee specialties are of special quality and if you eat a little something with them, then you've come to the right place.

High quality, authentic sushi, but affordable price due to the cafeteria atmosphere. The employees' German often leaves something to be desired, but you can get your plate together with your hands and feet. The bottom line is that the price-performance ratio is probably the best in Düsseldorf.

Really good food. We tried a few different things, and they turned out to be really good. Needless to say-also very authentic.

Top sushi. Underestimated because of its location and presentation as part of a food court in the Shadow Arcades. But sushi is first class and is now a must for every Düsseldorf tour.

The food was quite good, but too expensive for what was offered. 33€ for a combination without a drink. Especially in the atmosphere of a train station canteen and without service at your seat.

Just walked around and found this sushi restaurant. No doubt the sushi here is fresh and delicious. Customer service was weird. It felt like I made a mistake by ordering only 3 sushi without ordering a drink. The old couples were often looking at me with serious face and strange eyes. It's okay to put a smile on your face when you're in the service industry. From the poster, I saw that the old couple are the owners, no wonder, they have been running the restaurant for over 40 years.

Incredibly tasty, rather inconspicuous from the outside or the location, but wow wow - I haven't eaten such delicious sushi in years. There are probably several locations, we were lucky that the owners were there that day and served the sushi themselves. There is no real menu, you line up at the counter and point to the sushi you want to eat and it is then placed on plates and billed for individually. Everything was super tasty and fresh.

Absolutely shocking that you can only pay with a GERMAN issued debit card, or cash. Not accepting credit cards is one thing but in a touristic city as Düsseldorf to not accept foreign debit cards - no words for it.

Quick and easy sushi & bento shop. Large selection of single piece nigiri and maki sushi. Simple counter ordering, but they arrange your sushi pleasantly on the plate. Great value & traditional feel of Japanese shops. Cash only.

Maruyasu consistently provides an extensive array of bento and sushi options, ensuring excellent value for money without compromising on quality or variety! Of course I will visit Maruyasu again and again.

Best Japanese ever!! I've been coming here for many years and eating the best tuna sashimi. Butter tender and excellently fresh. Of course, all other dishes, such as miso soup, sushi 🍱, seaweed salad,...etc. equally deliciously prepared The boss is still standing behind the counter and serving the customers. Simply great 👍🏼

What happened to this sushi icon? Carelessly put together sushi bites with such a thin fish coating that it could almost compete with strudel dough. Poorly cut too. Lemurs that fall apart. Unfortunately no longer an unreserved recommendation.

Simply unbeatable. I really enjoy eating a lot of sushi and try out a lot of shops. I'm glad I came across Maruyasu by chance. In my opinion the best sushi in all of North Rhine-Westphalia. The staff is also super friendly and accommodating. 100% recommended.
