Marafina in Berlin

We wanted to eat here, but quickly changed our minds: An employee went outside to smoke before preparing the food, played with a baby, and then reached into the halloumi and other food on the counter without washing his hands. He reacted angrily to our request to wash his hands. We found this unhygienic and decided not to eat. Flip-flops are also not appropriate for working in the restaurant industry.

This was my first time having East African food and Marafina really set the bar high. Delicious meal in a great spot of town.

I'm revising my review from a few years ago. Today, unfortunately, it was a super-light falafel makali with 2/3 of an iceberg lettuce, peanut sauce at the bottom, no 2 mashed falafel, 1 potato, 1 carrot. I briefly mentioned that it was tasty but very little compared to before, to which the response was that there wasn't enough room in a loaf like that. Too bad.

Great food, including vegan options. Inside it's almost nicer than outside because of the many painted walls - very cool, but can also be quite spicy.

It was the meal I didn't realise I needed, food was super affordable for the large amount and decent quality that they served. Staff know what they're doing and it's a nice atmosphere

One of my favourite Sudanese restaurants in Berlin. Food is always fresh and tasty. Prices as incredibly cheap and honest for the area and quantity.

Very tasty food: the falafel sandwiches, the vegetarian platter, and the chicken platter were all delicious. The ubiquitous peanut sauce is delicious. You can sit outside or inside.

The food is delicious, but communication is cautious. Misunderstandings occur frequently, and we occasionally don't get what we ordered.

Great late night sudanese place, just like Sahara but not Sahara. Love going there after a party omw home. Nice affordable prices and delicious food.

Super delicious food! The peanut sauce is particularly great. Very nice staff :) The price-performance ratio is more than good. The ambience is not necessarily made for a longer stay, but you can still sit nicely and eat on site. In itself it is more snack-like.

English below! ⬇️ Good falafel in many variations. The peanut sauce is very much in the foreground, which is a good thing for me because you can't taste too much of the other ingredients. It lacks balance for my taste. I miss the interplay of the different ingredients that taste in the mouth and mix with the peanut sauce. Very nice staff who try to accommodate every request and work quickly. The location in the neighborhood exudes the shame of the same. There could be a bit more space and instead of doodles on the wall there would be a few authentic pieces of art of interest. ENGLISH Good falafel in many variations. The peanut sauce is very dominant, which for me results in a one-star deduction, as you can't really taste much of the other ingredients anymore. For my taste, it lacks balance. I miss the interplay of different ingredients that blend harmoniously in the mouth with the peanut sauce. The staff is very friendly, attentive to every request, and works efficiently. The location in the neighborhood exudes its unique charm. However, there could be a bit more space, and instead of scribbles on the walls, a few authentic artworks would be more appealing.

No card payments in 2025 is an absolute disgrace. In Belarus, 10 years ago, I was able to pay with Visa/Mastercard everywhere, even for €0.30 And also look at the pictures. What's that supposed to mean?

Chicken marafina teller and vegetarian marafina teller are a must try.

This not too big shop is a little insider tip!!! So it's really worth checking out. You can sit comfortably indoors and outdoors The food is really great, there are some options for vegans and peanut sauce lovers will find their paradise here. The boss is a super nice person and always has a smile on his face!

Everything is right at the store. Delicious Sudanese food at good prices, cheap for the neighborhood. Quality is high, falafel is delicious, kufta could be better, magali is balanced and even if it's not my favorite peanut sauce in the city, it's still awesome and the shop gets a clear recommendation.

Its a very cosy and junky place at the same time. The food for the price is excellent and I very much recommend it. The portions are generous and you can consider a portion per person to b enough. I paid 12€ for the special but most of the other items are priced 1-10.

Excellent falafel, the marafina one is great

I've been there very often and always found it good. The price-performance ratio is very, very good. So I prefer this shop to any kebab. The food is ideal for vegetarians, but it could be difficult for people with peanut allergies. I would recommend everyone to stop by and try it out.

Had a walk in the neighbourhood. You will see before 17h many things are closed. And than we found this place. For the breakfast it was too late. But we could have some other things. And a beer. Nice food. Friendly host. Sat next to the window. Thanks.

Best dine in döner experience in the area

Good quality food every single time! Super quick service. Sometimes there’s a little line on weekend dinner hours but I’ve never had to wait more than 15 minutes from arriving to receiving my food.

The peanut sauce in the chicken falafel pita kidnapped most other flavors. The falafel was top notch however. The bread was just okay, nothing special, the same with the salad.

Best place to try east african cuisine. 😋Everything is so delicious and price worthy. The peanut sauce is the hero of the dish. The quantity is also more than enough. Recommended to try chicken teller.

Place is god sent. Some people are born to make good food like this. I’ve ate kebab on a daily basis and this was the best. Simple no frills AFFORDABLE and big portion TASTY. Had my fair share of middle eastern kebab but these brothers take it up a notch with the peanut sauce. I also had the best Makali in my life here.

Wow. Succulent, creamy, salty, savoury heaven. The falafel was incredible. The veggies félt as if they just came out of the oven, yum. Loooved the peanut butter sauce. A very big, filling portion for only 5 euros! And vegan! Cool bathrooms too haha. The atmosphere was lively as well ♡ Mán I lóvé Berlin döners😻😻😻 I'm gonna miss this one😔

The food tastes very good and the price-performance ratio is excellent. But when we asked if we could pack our food, the cashier gave us an old, dirty aluminum packaging and we had to pack it ourselves.

Nice place. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and couldn't eat on site. Good food, vegan options. In particular the excellent peanut sauce. They don't accept card like many places in Berlin, only cash. You can take away (which I did). Next time I return to Berlin I'll try what it's like to eat there so I can give a real rating to the environment

The shop is an institution... the quality has been consistently good for years and the peanut sauce can't be beat. The staff is always friendly and in a good mood. I was once allowed to leave without paying because I didn't have any money with me and I only paid after an hour. I always enjoy coming back.

Best in Berlin! I’ve been to this place several times and every time I feel so satisfied with the delicious halloumi and peanut sauce. Most importantly, the price is so good considering the portion for each wrap. Also, the deco within is typical Friedrichshain 🤣 and they’ve got a toilette and larger sitting space than before. Don’t miss it out should you come to this district. (p.s. cash only but you’d find an atm right nearby)

Very good East African cuisine. Falafel, chicken, halloumi or vegan patty with fried vegetables (especially sweet potatoes) and salad in all combinations with peanut sauce or even spicy. It's good and cheap, but it's not a revelation. Solid. Ambience is simple, clean and ok. More of a snack bar than a restaurant. Self-service with beeper for pickup.
