L'Osteria Esslingen in Esslingen am Neckar

Great Italian restaurant in a prime destination with normal prices. The atmosphere inside is great but can be little noisy. Ask for a quiet corner if you want to talk without having to shout. Service was fine, a little cold. Food was delicious, the pizza dough is very high quality and there is a good selection.

Yes, it's a bit loud but otherwise pleasant

We've eaten here several times and ordered regularly because the pizzas are large and good. Service is usually short, straightforward Italian. But today (05/02/2024 12:00 p.m.) an absolute no go: My wife with her baby was assigned a table about 10 meters from the bar. I came a little later with our 4 year old daughter and saw a free table on the terrace. At the bar I wanted to ask if we could move to the outside table. The seating man told me I had to wait at the bar until I was assigned a table. Actually, I just wanted to ask if I could also wait at the table with my wife in sight. But this simple conversation was simply impossible; I was constantly interrupted with lots of words and little content. There are rules here, which I never questioned, but I did question the lack of service. Resigned, I went back to my wife's table, where the "seat assignor" followed me, apparently trying to clarify things. However, his tirade continued unhindered and when I asked if I could finish a sentence, I received an impudent “No!” Then he turned directly to my wife, and she also asked again if I could speak out. The answer was again a resounding “No!” Amazing behavior… got up and left. Unfortunately, L'Osteria Esslingen is no longer an option.

April 12, 2025 - 7:30 p.m We were there on a fully booked late afternoon, so even though we had booked we had to wait a short time for seats. We were then randomly assigned seats that then became available. Since it was so full, it was an absolutely understandable move. What I can't understand is the harsh, cheeky and rude tone of the service and the one male waiter we received. The food was soon served to us, unfortunately my pizza was a bit cold and sparsely topped, but it was filling. All in all an evening that was fine.

Just felt good all around... and delicious too. 😋 Update: Back after a year... and all I can say is... great atmosphere, delicious food and Janni, our waitress, was super friendly with a warm smile. Here you are simply happy. 😊

Very polite and competent service, we were accompanied from the door to the table and the food felt like it was there 5 minutes after we ordered. We were then made aware of the desserts, but we couldn't finish them after the excellent pizza. Highly recommended, I'll be back. Thank you for everything💪💪

The place is wonderful! The food is ok but nothing special… and the staff gives you the impression that work in a factory’s line production… you feel that you don’t have time to sit comfortably, relax and enjoy your meal.

The ambience is beautiful. Nothing comes close. The pizza is very tasty and it's great that there is vegan pizza melt so that even people with lactose intolerance can enjoy a pizza. However, you could write more clearly on the menu that the vegan melt costs an extra charge. Service was okay. Not particularly friendly but not rude either. Prices are already very high for a chain, but at smaller, owner-managed Italian restaurants the prices are much cheaper. All in all, we will still come back because of the ambience and because there are hardly any restaurants that offer vegan cheese.

Nice place; good food. English welcome with English menu. Don’t expect to practice your German here. The salad was tasty and fresh Decent pizza, which is surprisingly large for Germany. Excellent cappuccino. Touristy place, but we’ll be back for the location and views.

I went in expecting this location. The food is delicious and satisfying. You can enjoy your meal while enjoying the beautiful city of Esslingen. It would be a good idea to come here for lunch as the scenery is nice.

There is one star overall for the location. Unfortunately, that was the only positive thing about our visit. We were put off at the bar even though there were enough free tables. Not enough staff right now because it's the break. So far so good and bad. When the city is full to the brim on a sunny Saturday, you just wait. It would have been nice to at least get a drink at the bar to pass the time, but that wasn't the case. The few staff available were, if at all, trained to successfully ignore the guests or, better yet, to get rid of them straight away. You can leave if you don't like it. The boss should think about whether it would be better to send the staff home. To eat. Two out of three dishes flopped. The spaghetti wasn't al dente and the zoodles were swimming in a soup of celery and a few mushy tomatoes. There is still a lot of room for improvement.

We were here 1.5 hours before closing time and were turned away because the kitchen was already closed. Since the dining room was still full, I think that was exaggerated. Food gets 4/5 stars, service varies greatly depending on who you get.

Incredible!! We had to wait at the entrance for 10 minutes until someone came to let us in; and the guy wanted us to sit at the bar with our baby. How can we eat comfortably in the bar area with a baby? This is unacceptable for such a famous restaurant!

Today we went on a company outing with over 50 people and even though we were able to order a la carte, everything went perfectly. The service was extremely friendly, attentive and fast, even if my colleagues suddenly didn't know what they had ordered. Everyone was absolutely satisfied with the quality of the food and drinks. It was a complete success and would also be highly recommended for large events.

Wer hier her kommt muss Pizza essen. Die Pizzen schmecken mega lecker und sind dabei auch noch riesen groß. Bei vier Personen an einem Tisch gibt’s lediglich das Problem, dass der Tisch für die Pizzen zu klein ist :)

Dinner with colleagues. The seating felt cramped and it was full. Nice for the restaurant, but too crowded with neighboring tables for a "nice exchange." But that was really the only "disruptive factor." The food and service were very good.

Esslingen: While I was eating pasta, I saw some shiny black big flakes, tasted like plastic. At the time, I ignored it. After going home, I ate the leftover pasta which I got it packed from the restaurant. I noticed that it was the TEFLON coating. I threw it. They must have used a really bad pan that was damaged. I don’t know what will happen to me, but I hope I will survive. Please change the pan and use steel or iron. Please stop using Teflon coating.

Chain restaurant with good food and service. Pizza quality around Esslingen is hit or miss but the spicy pepperoni pizza has always been on point.

I ordered a salami pizza, the pizza chef must be Indian. The amount of pepper that came on the pizza is impossible to eat, when I asked the waiter he didn't care, he just said it was part of the ingredients, but it's not written that it's like eating hot coals 🔥

Sad because this place is always packed with tourists just coming though for the day/weekend they bring in the money, so there is no need to change their food flavors. There aren't many choices here in town besides all of the basic flavors of German food, so having an Italian place that seats a lot of people with a great view would be awesome to keep returning to, but sadly we won't be returning.

Es hat alles geschmeckt aber die Bedienung hat gehörschaden und ist nicht fähig zu kommunizieren das heist sie sagt nicht ob es bestellt wurde sie gibt nicht mal ein Zeichen wie nicken oder ja sagen und dann finde ich nicht gut weil man dann nicht weis ob die Bestellung aufgenommen wurde . Aber sonst war alles super!

Ordered a starter and pizza, both were served almost at the same time, after we asked to bring the pizza later, the staff were annoyed and as punishment we received a cold pizza. The starter was very tasty but the service was subpar.

The restaurant is located in a rustic house near Esslingen's old town. The pizzas are huge - actually too much for one person. Two sizes would be great. It's nice that you can choose two different halves - so you have more choice when it comes to toppings. The selection itself is classic, no special features. The pasta selection is ok, the homemade pasta also tastes very tasty. Unfortunately there is no salmon or truffle pasta.

The pizzas here are both huge and super tasty. We even topped each pizza twice. The service had been so good. Even though it was very busy, the waiters were very attentive and even took the time to make recommendations to the guests. This is how you want to be treated as a guest. We'd love to come back.

It's always a great experience to come here. Super friendly staff. The food always inspires me anew and the ambience is also absolutely contemporary. If I had to find something negative, I could just say it is usually very crowded, which means the volume is appropriate, but a full restaurant actually speaks for itself. Stopped by spontaneously and got a table straight away. There is a great view of the water in the back. The staff is super friendly and personable. The drinks felt like they were brought to our table straight after we ordered. The food was great, one of the best Alio e Oglios I had in L'Osterias. Really a great restaurant and worth recommending.

Went with my girlfriend on February 14th and waited for 30 minutes even though we had a reservation. Then they sat us at a table by the window for 3 people and then they removed us because a large group was coming and then a couple of 2 sat in our place. The food is excellent but the service and attitude towards customers is terrible.

The boss has to think about the space that his employees offer his guests. There were five people today who wanted something to eat and we were offered a table where no three people could eat even though half the restaurant was empty and they said you had to make a reservation. The employees were very unfriendly when you asked for a larger table and even said that was for 6 people. Discussed with customers because if it were possible I would give zero stars. I think they are the only ones in Esslingen who can keep a chain. There is better pizza 50m away.

Went to L'Osteria in Esslingen on Saturday and were super satisfied. We were seated quickly, the waiters always came straight away and didn't keep you waiting. Everything worked perfectly with the Amici app. Our waiter was very friendly and often asked if everything was good or if we needed anything else. We were also more than satisfied with the amount of food, we would definitely come again. Child-friendly and not barrier-free.

We ate here with our friends and ordered two half pizzas. When the waiter brought out the pizza, one of my friends had a much smaller portion than us. Very large pizzas and ultra tasty.

The food is very tasty and the atmosphere is of course nice, but on our last visit we ordered two large (0.5l) cokes and we were deeply disappointed: the coke tasted completely (!) like water and was in a glass without a bottle. Halfway through the glass it started to taste like cola, but the first 2 dl was a diluted cola imitation.... I guess they fill the 0.5 glass with 0.33 cola bottle and add ice and soda to it . Terrible! I didn't want to bring it up because I didn't want to ruin our evening, but we were very disappointed. Like a dirty bar where people get watered down drinks... Terrible, but really. And even the price of the large cola: 5.25 euros So dear L'osteria, you should perhaps think a bit about what will be served for your guests.

Typical L'Osteria pizza, you can't say anything against it. Tasty and filling, but the prices are slowly going through the roof. Sure the pizza is big but 20 euros for a pizza😅 I grew up in times when a margarita cost 5 euros.

The food was good, tasty. The organization of the staff was a bit poor, but overall everything was fine. The place was nice, clean, with a slightly mysterious atmosphere. I recommend it.

Positive: Location and ambience are great. We also liked the open kitchen. And the employees were all friendly. Negatives: Women's restrooms looked terrible. There was no toilet paper or towels, they were lying around on the floor. (Well, the restaurant can't do anything about that directly, but it would be an advantage if there were regular checks) The pizzas looked great, but were too big for our taste. When the pizza no longer fits on the plate and I touch it on the table (which was probably clean, but was probably cleaned with a rag that had been in use for a while) we no longer find it very appetizing. The taste was ok, but it gets cold very quickly and given the size, that's a shame.
