Doner kebab test: three shops in comparison We tested three different kebab shops in Herdecke (Laylam, Istanbul Restaurant and Döneria) and rated them based on several criteria: meat quality, bread, sauces, freshness of the salad, value for money and service. Here are our detailed reviews: 1. Laylam – Grade: 3- Laylam impresses with a very tasty, fresh bread, which forms a good base for the kebab. The salad is also crisp and fresh, which provides a pleasant texture. The sauces are well balanced in terms of taste and complement the kebab well overall. Unfortunately, the meat is not of particularly high quality, which is noticeable in both the taste and the consistency. It seems dry and not juicy enough, which makes the entire kebab taste a bit flabby. This is particularly unfortunate because the other components are actually promising. The staff is friendly, but the relationship with the guests is somewhat lacking - you don't really feel welcome or particularly valued. In terms of price, Laylam is in the middle range, so neither particularly cheap nor expensive. Comparison: • Better than Döneria when it comes to bread and salad, but weaker when it comes to meat. • Worse than Istanbul Grill because the meat is dry and the overall package seems less coherent. 2. Istanbul Grill – Grade: 2 Istanbul Grill scores with a very good overall concept. The bread is delicious and fresh, the meat is juicy and tastes good. The salad is crisp and fresh, which gives the kebab a pleasant lightness. A small point of criticism is the amount of sauce - it was exaggerated a bit, which means that the rest of the taste of the kebab is lost a little. A touch less sauce would probably have made the kebab perfect. The staff is particularly noteworthy: very accommodating, friendly and attentive - you really feel welcome here as a guest. In terms of price, Istanbul Grill is in the higher segment, but this is at least partly justified by the good quality. Comparison: • Better than Laylam in terms of meat quality and service. • Better than Döneria because the sauces and salad are fresher, but a bit too dominant. 3. Döneria – Grade: 3+ The Döneria has one great strength: the meat. It's the best of all the shops tested - crispy, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the other components are a little weak: the salad doesn't taste particularly fresh anymore, and the bread looks like it's a few days old. That's a shame, because with better bread and fresher salad the döneria would have a very good chance of getting a top rating. The staff is rather reserved, but the kebab is prepared very quickly, which is a clear plus point for hungry guests. In terms of price, Döneria is the best choice - here you get the most for your money. Comparison: • Better than Laylam in terms of meat quality, but worse in terms of bread and salad. • Cheaper than Istanbul Grill, but less harmonious overall picture. Overall conclusion: Every kebab shop has its strengths and weaknesses: • Istanbul Grill offers the most well-rounded package, but with a little too much sauce. • Döneria has the best meat, but is weak when it comes to bread and salad. • Laylam scores with bread and salad, but loses with dry meat. Which store is the best in the end depends on what you value most. Juicy meat? Then off to the Döneria. Friendly service and a balanced experience? Istanbul Grill. Crunchy salad and good bread? Laylam.

The taste of the kebab “meat” has almost nothing to do with kebab. Sticky, artificial, salty,…not edible without sauces. The salad has no taste. Everything cheap to inedible. Extreme savings are made on raw materials. There is only cash payment, which leaves its own “taste”. This is not up to date. Almost every kebab alternative in the area is better. Every gyro is a culinary highlight...

Clean, tasty and nice owner. You shouldn't expect more from a fast food restaurant.

Unfortunately not recommended, the food was nothing special, the outside area is not particularly inviting. What is also EXTREMELY annoying is that only cash payments are accepted, which is out of date and incomprehensible, the costs for EC payments are in the single-digit cent range, so the excuse doesn't work!

Der beste Döner Laden überhaupt, sehr nett sympathisch und lecker, ich würde diesen Laden weiterempfehlen. Ordaki calisan abilerime ,selamlar olsun, Elerinize saglik Hersey icin.

Preisleistungs Verhältnis garnicht da .Ich vertrage kein scharf was ich extra betonte ,trotzdem war es scharf ,konnte es nicht essen jetzt muss ich hungern.Sparen bei den Zutaten .Bei dem Personal fehlt Kommunikation .Nie wieder.

Leider hat die Qualität sehr nachgelassen. Schade!

Das Personal fand ich sehr nett. Zum Essen selbst kann ich nicht viel sagen, da ich eigentlich immer nur Salat Dürum (endlich ein Fladen der sich gut beißen läßt und nicht zäh ist) esse und mein Sohn Pommes, beides aber sehr lecker 😋 Auch die Preise find ich angemessen, also nicht überteuert wie bei manch anderen.

Einfache Döner- Bude. Kurze Wartezeit, Getränke aus Dosen, hat aber auch eine Toilette. Einfach - aber auch Sitzgelegenheiten. Dönerteller mit Pommes u. Salat o. Bratwurst mit Pommes u. Majo/Ketchup i.O.

Da ich fast den ganzen Tag unterwegs gewesen bin und sich schon der Abend hernieder senkte habe ich mir Gedanken um Abendbrot gemacht. Da ich schon längere Zeit keinen Döner mehr gegessen hatte empfand ich diese Idee doch als recht angenehm. Erst wollte ich ihn mit nach Hause nehmen, aber da gewisse Essenssachen immer recht schnell kalt werden habe ich ihn dann direkt vor Ort gegessen und einen Ayran dazu getrunken. Der Kalbs-Döner war auch richtig lecker und genau das was ich mir geschmacklich vorgestellt hatte.

Sauber, frisch, sehr lecker, immer freundlich. 👍 War gestern seit länger Zeit mal wieder dort und muss sagen, dass es nach wie vor immer noch eine Reise wert ist. Mittlerweile ist die Coronabednigte Klarsichtspuckschutzwand hinzugekommen, sowie ein Desinfektionmittelspender. An der Qualität und dem Geschmack der Speise hat es glücklicherweise keine Änderung gegeben. Nach wie vor erstklassig und sehr empfehlenswert. Die fünf vergebenen Sterne sind immer noch gerechtfertigt.

Döner Tasche war durch den zu nassen Salat komplett durch geweicht. Geschmacklich gibt es bessere.

Pommes Tasche und Pizza waren top. Freundlich, schnell und sauber. Das Fleisch sah auch gut aus. Ich würde hier wieder essen!

Wir haben eine Pommes bestellt mit majounaise und sie haben da nicht an Pommes Oder an majounaise gespart. es schmeckte sehr lecker es ist empfehlenswert

Sensationell lecker und mit total frischen Zutaten zubereitete Falafel Dürüm und Pizza. Best Food and Quality !!! Hygiene einwandfrei, soweit vom Abhol-Fenster aus erkennbar. Auf jeden Fall hat es schon super lecker schon aus dem Fenster heraus geduftet und genauso hat es auch geschmeckt. Unsere Erwartungen wurden weitaus übertroffen !!! Immer wieder gerne.

meine freunde hatten schon döner und die verkäufer haben mich ignoriert musste als letztes bestellen und haben nicht mal zugehört

Heute, 30.11.2020 Habe ich zwei mal das Menü (Dönerteller+Getränk für 8€) bestellt. Preis-Leistung ist top. Service : hatte vorbestellt war in 5-6 min. Vorort und nur wenige Momente später war die Bestellung fertig. Der Salat war frisch und sehr schmackhaft. Großzügige Portionen vor allem. Ich kann euch nur Laylam Grill empfehlen. Ps: Getränke gab es viele verschiedene Sorten von Fanta, Cola sogar 4Bro!
