Lay Thai Restaurant & Lounge in Düsseldorf

Even on repeat visits, an "interim bill" is presented upon payment. "NO BILL!" A proper bill is presented after three (!) requests. Despite the good food, this behavior is more than suspicious.

We were satisfied. The atmosphere was great. And the staff were very attentive... a big plus. But we were hoping for some new taste experiences. These were not available (at least for us) in the dishes we ordered. What we personally didn't like was that individual ingredients (e.g. coriander stalks) were draped next to the dish. But that's definitely a matter of taste.

The food was excellent. Quality, taste and quantity very good, very authentic. Unfortunately the service was a bit sloppy and hectic. Although there was no stress, the employee literally swept through the restaurant and was accordingly impatient at the table when ordering. This doesn't fit the ambience and style of a Thai restaurant at all. It's a shame, it could be better!

A very good restaurant with a great atmosphere and delicious food. We were there with a group of 10 people, and the food came quickly and at the same time for everyone, so we could eat together. Very good quality, freshly cooked, and traditional Thai food. The restaurant and restrooms are very clean. The service is first-class. We will definitely be back :)

We had reserved here but couldn't find a parking space because the parking situation in this area is a complete disaster. My wife had already sat down and ordered a still water. She was charged 8.90 euros for this. The boss didn't want to give the water because it was a deposit bottle! You can get VIO in every supermarket. An absolute disgrace towards the guests in terms of behavior and price! This is just an interim calculation, probably even fraudulent at the tax office. I can only advise every driver to avoid this restaurant.

I can only report positive things. We were there a little before the reserved time and still found a place without any problems. The ambience is very appealing and not too overwhelming. The service was without exception extremely friendly. The food was delivered quickly and tasted very good. If we're in the area again, we'd love to come back.

With the best will in the world, it's average at best... first the good: The atmosphere is nice and the service is very accommodating. Unfortunately that was it. The food is by no means authentic. The tofu was like the cement block that you can buy in relevant German supermarkets. That had nothing to do with Asian tofu. Otherwise really disappointing in terms of taste. The Pad Thai had hardly any taste, selling 6 really mini mini spring rolls (also very bland) for a mere €8 is on the verge of criminality. The avocado in the curry had already developed brown spots and roots. That doesn't work at all!!! Especially for a dish that costs €24!!! Demanding prices of over €20 per dish for such bland, boring, low-quality food is not only disillusioning but also an absolute impudence. On top of that, the portions were really quite stingy. Well, 2 stars because the service was at least very nice, but there's nothing to be gained here in terms of cuisine.

So I'm impressed! However, right at the beginning I have to say that the parking situation is difficult and you should plan a time buffer for it. I should also add that you should definitely make a reservation because when I was there all the tables were reserved and without a reservation you wouldn't have had a chance. However, the reservation is worth it at any price. When you arrived at the restaurant you were greeted warmly and shown to the table. Afterwards you had enough time to read the menu and in between the drinks were ordered. I had ordered the spring rolls as a starter and for my main course (sweet and sour chicken with rice) I wanted the chicken to be fried, which was no problem at all. However, it came with an additional charge, which I personally don't find dramatic. The food was brought out one by one, starters of course before starting. The food was very hot and tasted incredibly delicious! When the main course is served, a portion of rice is placed directly on your plate. The staff was consistently friendly and attentive throughout our stay. I'm really excited because the food was delicious and the staff made it possible to have a great time. It's definitely not the last time I've eaten here and I can only recommend the restaurant!

Definitely recommended! The service is courteous and you feel like you are in good hands. The food is plentiful and tastes good. There are lots of appetizers and cocktails.

The restaurant definitely doesn't live up to the high ratings! We had reserved a table for two people. The table as such is simply very small and therefore not really useful if various drinks and food have to be placed on the table! And then to eat. As a starter we had soup for 9.90 and the fish cakes for a whopping 12.90! The soup base consisted of simple chicken and a few champions in broth. The quality of the meat didn't convince us and the taste wasn't a revelation! The fish cakes were served with sweet and sour sauce and a mini salad. The dip tasted like a ready-made product! We have something like that in the fridge too. In a restaurant I just expect a homemade sauce and I suspect that it wasn't made by hand! Unfortunately the main courses were below average! Beef with vegetables and our beef was very tough and simply had no quality. The chicken dish with coconut and vegetables was also not good! We paid 97.50 for a bottle of water, two very tasty non-alcoholic cocktails, 2 starters and 2 main courses! If the performance is good, it's not an issue, but it's so incomprehensible and very disappointing in terms of taste! We paid by card and added 10 euros in cash to the bowl. The waitress overlooked this and my wife pointed out the tip. Then she took it without a word and turned around and left. I've never experienced anything like that before!

Positive: It was extremely tasty and of very high quality. The ambience is extremely nice and very well prepared. This was standard everywhere about 20 years ago and it was very nice to find it like this here today. Improvement: The portions could be a bit more generous for the price.

The taste of the food was good but unfortunately the portion was lean and few vegetables. Not full... When we told the waitress, she became unfriendly, louder and explained to us that the portions were just right and that no one had complained yet. Very unreasonable. We would have had enough. I'll pass it on to the cook.!!!! I don't think we'll visit the restaurant again.

We werden vriendelijk onthaald en naar onze tafel gebracht. Ze spreken er goed Engels en zijn heel vriendelijk. Het eten was heerlijk, allemaal heel vers en warm. Gezellig en proper etablissement, nette toiletten. Prijs-kwaliteit zeer goed. Een echte aanrader.

Very good restaurant!! FOOD very tasty! ABEEEEERRR! Paid an extra €5 for a portion of rice! For the small extra portion of crusty chicken (two small fillets! Really very thin and small!) Paid €12.90!!!! Too EXPENSIVE! Outrageous prices for side dishes, as unfortunately the main courses are served small, so you are forced to ORDER EXTRA SIDE DISHES! It's a shame it was still incredibly tasty but the portions/prices were outrageous.

I had high expectations based on the good reviews, but unfortunately they were not met at all. The dishes are by no means bad, just very boring and run of the mill. In terms of feeling, a cheap Asian snack bar doesn't make a worse curry. Service was very friendly and quick. (visited mid-09/2024)

Beautiful ambience, courteous and friendly service, dishes taste very good, but there is no price-performance ratio. I chose a glass noodle salad as my main course, but it corresponded to the portion of a starter. Since this couldn't satisfy my relatively small appetite, I had to order more, which made the visit disproportionately expensive for two people.

I spontaneously tried to reserve a table for the same day. According to online booking only possible very late. Called and was put off but I should try again. I was called and told that I was lucky and could come at the time I wanted Restaurant very appropriately decorated The waiters were really great. Whenever you needed something they were there and very accommodating, not intrusive. The meals were very good. Although the soups or my curry (had two different curries) I expected more in terms of taste, but that's complaining on a high level. Everything was very good. I would love to come back because everything was very good all around.

Wir haben unsere Freunde zu ihrem ersten Thai-Essen mitgenommen, weil uns das Restaurant im August so gut gefallen hat und sie es einfach ausprobieren sollten. Sie waren, wie wir auch wieder, absolut begeistert: vom super-freundichen Service, von dem wunderschönen Ambiente, von den Geschmacksexplosionen der äußerst leckeren und frischen Gerichte und den Getränken. Wir werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.

The restaurant is thoroughly recommended. The service is attentive, competent and keeps an overview even when it is full. The food is of very good quality and tastes excellent. The sharpness can be adjusted upon request. We will definitely go there again when we are in Düsseldorf again.

Troisième visite et nous aimons toujours autant…tout est parfait…l’accueil, les saveurs dans les plats, l’endroit chaleureux, …on se croirait en Thaïlande quand les plats arrivent. On a envie de tout goûter…

We had a lovely dinner here. Full points for the ambience and service. The food was good but packed the punch, vibrance and spice of Thai cuisine. They seemed to have dialed it down to match the local palette, which is a pity. Especially the curries and soups. Very good Phad Thai.

My wife and I visited the restaurant for the first time late one afternoon. The reception at the entrance was very friendly. Since we had reserved, we got a table for 2 people by the window. The starter for two and the two main courses chosen were very tasty. The service in between and when paying was very courteous. We'd love to come back.

Great dining locations in Dusseldorf! Relaxing and pleasant atmosphere, caring staff, delicious food. Usually I order a red curry with crispy duck, it is served with a cute bowl of rice. The portions of main dishes are quite big, it makes sense also considering sharing. This time we tried also two appetisers: a soup and a chicken satay. Unfortunately, there was no space left to try a coconut rice with mango, but next I am excited to try. Booking of the table in advance is recommended.

I was there on Saturday evening with my wife and we had a wonderful meal. We chose the chicken and duck, and both were extremely tasty. What was particularly positive was that our request for mild spice was implemented perfectly. The service was not only friendly but also very professional. The price-performance ratio was also right - we were completely satisfied!

Upscale ambience, great service, slightly smaller portions but the taste is exceptionally good. A little “house liqueur” at the end would have rounded the whole thing off even better.

The food and the ambience were good! The service was very friendly - too friendly for my taste! Personally, I find it annoying when someone asks every 5 minutes whether everything is still OK! After 2 hours (from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) a gentleman (managing director?) came and kindly asked us to leave! Our table was still allocated, even though two long rows of tables in the background were unused!??I found that to be outrageous! We only received an interim invoice! Unusual! This experience makes me never want to go there again!

We really ate as great a meal here as we did in real Thailand. The food is incredibly tasty, the service is super friendly and the restaurant atmosphere is cozy and familiar. The coconut soup and Pad Thai were incredibly delicious! We'll definitely be back.
