Landhaus Ewich in Wuppertal

"Oven om Dönberg" is located on a country road, yet still idyllically situated, is the Landhaus Ewich. Just as it is in the Bergisches Land, slate-paneled under trees, with an inviting little garden in front of the house. We had ordered for 17 people and were greeted by a fully set Bergisches Land coffee table, where nothing was missing. Even the Indian blue of the dishes matched perfectly, as did the Dröppelminna (drinking mint) that sat decoratively in the middle of the table. Fast, friendly, and attentive service; everything was delicious. The waffles came as a "second round" and were complemented with cream and cherries upon request (for an extra charge). We were all thoroughly satisfied and felt at home, even though the "Schnäppsken" listed on the menu was missing.

Yesterday the five of us had dinner here for her birthday and were unfortunately a bit disappointed. The potato soups were only lukewarm, the goulash soup was bland. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes with the schnitzel were rather cool and completely saltless, and the schnitzel itself was probably fried rather than pan-fried, as stated on the menu. The mushroom cream sauce seemed more like a ready-made sauce, but I don't want to assume anything wrong. With the mustard schnitzel we actually expected a kind of mustard crust, I think that's what it said on the menu. Instead, there was just a thick layer of mustard smeared on it. The roast beef was cut way too thick. Finger-thick in places. Actually, it should be wafer-thin. And apparently there are problems with the liquor license, so there is currently no alcohol. Not dramatic, but I think you could point this out to guests when making the reservation. Especially at a birthday party, you might want to toast with something alcoholic. Instead, you will find plaques on every table that point out delicious Berliner Weisse. Ultimately, all five of us weren't happy, we just didn't bring it up because we didn't want to ruin the birthday. It's a shame actually. We were last here about two months ago and completely satisfied. Especially because the restaurant and its terrace are really beautiful.

That's not okay: Advertise with HAANER Felsquell water and self-filled soda bottles cost the same price of €6.90 for 0.75L. Yes, that saves resources and relieves the workload on employees, but it is still essentially Kranenberger, and at least that should be on the menu, and of course it should be cheaper than bottled water, which is produced at a higher quality and includes delivery routes and additional costs for the same price! Dinner there for the first time with 4 people. We had heard a lot of good things beforehand. All in all: 'Yeah...it was okay' and everything was fine, but nothing more. PS to the waitress: If I'm promised ketchup 'free', it shouldn't be on the bill afterwards ;)

The provider is very nice. The beer garden as well as the interior. But unfortunately the quality of the food did not meet our expectations. In the "introduction" the menu states that bread with paprika dip is served. Unfortunately, this does not correspond to what was written. There was enough meat in the goulash soup we ordered. But unfortunately the pieces are very large and cannot be divided with a spoon. Pickled cucumbers and beetroot should be served with pannasch. It was a salad decorated with two slices of beetroot. The pannasch also came out of the deep fryer. So it was very dry. Don't think that corresponds to Bergisch cuisine. Unfortunately, the beef roulade was also very dry and the sauce couldn't save it. The schnitzels are really very large, but not fried in the pan as described. Unfortunately not our expectations of food.

I actually only write good reviews. But here I was too annoyed: We were there for dinner with 4 people in the evening. We ordered: bacon pancakes, pill cake with salad, panas and a crust. The bacon pancake was ok, nothing great, but ok. The pill cake was ok until my wife had a hair in her mouth that was previously on the pill cake. I find it extremely unpleasant, it can happen, but it shouldn't. The pill cake had no bacon or onions to offer. A salad as a side dish, but it wasn't particularly tasty. The crust was tough, difficult to chew. The highlight was the panas that I ordered. Black pudding was delivered. When I asked the waitress about it, she confirmed my Panas order and wanted to check again in the kitchen. Result: I would have gotten Panas. I was quite surprised: the side dishes matched exactly what was stated on the menu for the black pudding dish. And I can tell panas from black pudding. I then ate the black pudding because I thought of an oversight that could happen. At that point I didn't know about the other defects (hair, shoe soles), otherwise I wouldn't have accepted the food. We got the waitress both on the hair and the wrong one Order noted. She apologized... Overall, we cannot recommend the food there. Some of the other reviews are quite good. Maybe we had a bad day. We won't be able to find out because we're not going there anymore

No. 20 was ordered Em Ferkesgalopp dörch 'en Busch - breaded schnitzel with wild cranberries, grilled raw ham and goat cheese, with fried potatoes and salad. Verdict: The schnitzel was too dry, no grilled, raw ham but 1 slice of cooked ham on the schnitzel, topped with melted goat cheese (could only have been created in the microwave), tastes bland. The fried potatoes (very little) were in a small ceramic bowl, mostly too black and with too much bacon and onions. The mixed salad was OK. No. 23 was ordered Country house goulash - beef goulash with spaetzle Verdict: No homemade spaetzle (from the bag) and too dry. The meat (goulash) was sometimes too tough and too dry and the sauce was completely missing. A disappointing visit and not recommended.

Food tastes very tasty. We can recommend the homemade apple strudel for dessert. Service staff is very warm and accommodating. We'll definitely be back!

We have already experienced many “Bergische Kaffeetafeln”, but the coffee table on January 5th, 2025 in the Landhaus Ewich was the best! No wishes were left unfulfilled, the price-performance ratio was right and the staff was very attentive and friendly. My partner and I had lunch at the Ewich restaurant (Oven om Dönberg) and were absolutely thrilled. At the beginning we shared goulash soup, a homemade, delicious soup that came to the table really hot - exactly as it should be. We really liked that. For the main course, my husband had the venison goulash with red cabbage and homemade dumplings, I had the schnitzel with mushrooms and fried potatoes. Both dishes were perfectly seasoned and just right for us. Even the side salad had a fresh, homemade dressing, which unfortunately you don't find often these days. The restaurant itself is cozy, with a great view, and the service was super nice. We found it particularly nice that there are many action days, such as a whiskey tasting with a three-course menu. Everything here is made with love, and you can tell that in every detail. Conclusion: We felt completely comfortable here and will 110% come back. This small, cozy restaurant is definitely worth recommending. Five stars!

The atmosphere in this restaurant, especially at Christmas time, is very cozy. The service was extremely friendly and our dog was warmly welcomed... Wonderful... Unfortunately the quality and quantity of the food was not good. The cordon blue was stringy... the dumplings with the goose were mini and the roach was in a bowl on the plate... maybe to make it look like more?... unfortunately we went home hungry and that's the case today usual high prices...

Beautiful Bergisch restaurant on the edge of Wuppertal. The food was delicious and the service was very friendly. Decorated seasonally. Budgies in the entrance area that made a lot of noise. Many dishes on the menu are in Low German. Funny for people who don't know Platt.

Disappointing, unfortunately not a good experience. We have often visited Landhaus Ewich in the past and recommended it to friends. Unfortunately, after our last visit, we can no longer make this recommendation. The coffee table was far from what was promised on the website. The website states that children under 3 years old can eat for free. This was also confirmed to us when booking. But when it came to the bill, we had to pay for the child. Likewise, two cups of coffee, cocoa or tea were included on the website, but on site it said that the cocoa was only free for children up to 8 years old - very misleading information. The first impression of the table was not good: the selection of sausages and jams did not correspond at all to the pictures on the website. Instead of a variety of types of bread and sausage variations, there was only a small selection; the sausage selection consisted of Black Forest ham, a small Mettwurst cut into 10 slices (for 8 people) and two types of cheese. The jam and quark were served in tiny cups - just not enough. Unfortunately, the impression that it was more of a discount product was unmistakable and continued with the cake. The dishes were in poor condition - parts were chipped. The table decoration, consisting of an old pot, was well-intentioned, but dusty and covered in cobwebs - simply unhygienic. Even though we wanted to overlook it, the service caused further trouble. The waitress was sometimes unfriendly and indignant. When we asked for additional waffles, we were told that only one per person would be "included". The fact that a 3-year-old child had to pay extra for a waffle even though he was sitting at the table was another annoyance. Only after the boss got involved did we get an additional waffle. Unfortunately, the advertised schnapps was missing at the end of the menu. The service overall was not good. When paying, we felt ripped off because children (one of which was supposed to be free at age 3) were charged twice and many services were not provided as promised on the website. The coffee table, which sounds inviting, turned into a disappointing experience for us. Conclusion: If the services do not match the information on the website, an urgent revision of the communication should be made. We will definitely use other options in the future and avoid Landhaus Ewich. Unfortunately, it has wasted much of its potential.

It's a shame, so much potential... We were there often and advertised the restaurant, despite one or two discrepancies. But the last meal together with family and friends should have been the last meal. Reservation “Bergische Kaffeetafel”. Child 3 years old, can eat for free, was then confirmed again by the boss. The first impression. Various types of bread, cakes, ham, a bit of Mettwurst and jam in a small cup, as well as quark and apple cabbage. Since there were 10 of us in total and the food was very sparse, the presentation of the food dominated the afternoon. The dishes were sometimes more or less chipped. The table decorations consisted, among other things, of an old jug (nicely meant) with cobwebs/dust overlooked. We would ignore all of that, as well as the fact that there wasn't enough food, which the waitress denied. On the homepage, the coffee table includes, among other things: 2 teas, coffee or cocoa, waffles and a schnapps at the end. It was then said locally that only the children get cocoa. The waffles (one per person) were charged to the people who pay, meaning the 3 year old doesn't get a waffle or her own plate, even if she eats somewhere else. When I asked for a second waffle, I was told, “No, only one would be included!” Only after I informed the boss that the afternoon was rather difficult due to the angry waitress, did the boss promise us another waffle. The liquor was left out. As announced, cherries, ice cream and cream were charged extra, but served in bowls, which everyone then had to portion out themselves and the last one ended up empty-handed. Pay: Children charged twice - (9 and 3 years old) A waffle A cocoa Conclusion: If a limit on the number of dishes is offered, such as one waffle per head, cocoa only for children or three-year-olds are not allowed to eat at any other time, then you should perhaps revise your own homepage again, because that is not clear from the text Unfortunately it could be done differently.

Some time ago, before the change of ownership, we enjoyed eating there. Unfortunately, things are different now. We get cards that are falling apart and have to give them away because there aren't enough - with the cheeky argument "because we're so popular" and "full house". The food also left something to be desired. The vegetables and potatoes were relatively few for the price and were also frozen goods. Anyone who says otherwise has never eaten real food. It tasted of nothing, was watery and looked as perfect as it gets in the kitchen. When we informed the waitress, we were made a loud, cheeky announcement. That was our last visit.

It was very cozy there, everything was decorated for Christmas. The food was OK, but nothing special. When I asked for a sharper knife, I was told that they were all so blunt. This is not customer friendliness.

Wir waren mit Freunden zur Bergischen Kaffeetafel im Ewich. Das war richtig peinlich und absolut nicht zu empfehlen. Kaum Auswahl und sehr wenig. Zum Beispiel: 1 kleine Waffel pro Person, für 4 Personen Milchreis in einer kleinen Suppentasse, keine Sahne, Kirschen wurden angeboten, mussten am Schluß extra bezahlt werden, etc., etc.. Nie wieder! So ruiniert ein Lokal sich selbst.

Bei unserem Essen am Samstag lief vieles verkehrt. Die Schnitzel kamen aus der Fritteuse, die Bratkartoffeln waren matschig. Nicht zu empfehlen. Solch ein Essen haben wir dort noch nie erlebt. Man merkt leider, dass es ein Inhaberwechsel gab.

We were there with friends and a small child, and it took a long time to get the menu. The drinks were also ordered, the service staff was very friendly but overwhelmed, I ordered crispies, the schnitzel from the deep fryer was partly burnt, the fried egg was also hard and in the pan for too long, it was the same with the tarte flambée, me I ate part of it, I could have let it go back, then we would have had to wait longer, but that wouldn't have worked with the small child, we then got 2 espressos for free, the waiter also apologized. My girlfriend has already been there twice and wouldn't visit the restaurant again. Sorry, nice beer garden but when it's full they're simply overwhelmed!!!

Absolutely bad service, coffee table with 13 people, staff overwhelmed, no or delayed service with the gear sequence. After two hours we had to leave the restaurant, although there were long breaks due to the poor service were created.

Leider war die Bedienung zwar nett , aber nicht auf Zack. Wir waren zu einer bergischen Kaffeetafel eingeladen.( 13 Personen) Immer fehlte etwas. Zu den Waffeln gab es Sprühsahne. GEHT GAR NICHT!!!! Zum guten Schluss wurden wir auch noch rausgeworfen. Auf keinen Fall empfehlenswert.Sehr schade für das Geburtstagskind. So kann man eine Feier auch ruinieren!

Unfortunately, I have to edit my top-rated review from four years ago and adjust it down. Had dinner for two on September 22nd. The service is not very fast. The food has deteriorated after the change of ownership. Fried potatoes are not crispy and way too thick. The schnitzel is also much too thick. The side salad has also become much easier and the yogurt dressing tastes store-bought. We visited 3-4 times after the change of ownership and we could already tell that the high quality had deteriorated over time. Unfortunately that was our last visit…

So it was our first time there but it won't be the last time. Great restaurant, very nice place, the food was amazing, everything was perfect, mother was thrilled when we brought her there for her 88th birthday.

Unfortunately the food wasn't that good. I ordered fried potatoes without bacon. This is also possible according to the menu. However, they came with bacon. I didn't complain about it. My mistake. Unfortunately the meat was very dry and the crust was good, "crusty". Too bad My companion also had the same problems. Conclusion. Not anymore for now.

The Ewich country house is long-established. It was a very good address under its first owner; nothing worked here without a reservation. Then it was taken over and became very bad. It was taken over again in February 2024. On a very warm Monday in mid-August, I went with a friend to sit in the beer garden and enjoy the same thing. We chose the green Berliner Weisse. After a small eternity our drinks arrived. Not green but red. When the mistake was pointed out, the waitress simply said, "Oh, that can happen. It's so full today. You'll drink anyway." Okay..... Not a word about "I'll bring the right drink". We ordered a salad and a tarte flambée, which came quickly and were also delicious. Because of this visit we went again on Thursday. This time four of us. Again we found a place outside. The waitress was different and it took a long time for her to take the drink order. The menus - just like the delivery of drinks - took a very long time. There wouldn't be enough menus. We decided on 2x crusts on toast with fried potatoes, 1x schnitzel without toast with mushrooms and fried potatoes, 1x vegetarian burger with potato wedges. After waiting 1 1/4 hours, we asked when the food would come. "You're next," replied the overexcited waitress, who hadn't gotten the order right on Monday. Aha. We had to order drinks ourselves because no one came to the table. Since it was starting to get cold, we moved from outside to inside. After 2 hours of waiting, the schnitzels finally arrived - fresh from the deep fryer. The schnitzel without toast had the toast of course, the fried potatoes were lukewarm. The burger came another 10 minutes later. Here too, the wedges came fresh from the deep fryer, the fat was still dripping down. The burger bun and the patty - lukewarm. I immediately brought it back and complained. The answer was that the burger wasn't cold. Pretty rude, but good. I neither ate nor paid for the burger. As compensation they brought us ice cream. Very nice, but doesn't save the overall impression The ambience has also diminished. Sure, it's great to sit outside. Inside it needs a make-over. The walls in the back are smudged and dirty. There are blue posters stuck to the wall everywhere depicting Burger Tuesday and the like. apply. It doesn't fit the style of the country house. What was once designed with great attention to detail is now simply slapped on. CONCLUSION: A waiting time of over 2 hours is not possible. Then half of the food is lukewarm. One waitress is completely crazy and calls everyone on a first-name basis (regardless of age). The other waitress goes like this. We won't be coming here anymore, not even for a beer, because you can't really get the hang of it here. It's a shame about this once great restaurant

The food is really very mediocre and poorly seasoned. That was the unanimous opinion of everyone who was there. Prices are ok, service was very nice, it's nice to sit outside. But once again just for a drink.

I recently dined at Landhaus Ewich in Wuppertal and was thoroughly impressed. The food was fantastic—especially the Currywurst, which I enjoyed immensely. To put it into perspective for my American friends, it’s even better than a Costco hotdog! The Apfel Schorle I ordered was perfectly chilled and refreshing, complementing the meal wonderfully. One of the things that stood out to me was the inclusion of the Wuppertal dialect in the menu. It’s a charming touch that adds local flavor to the dining experience. Overall, Landhaus Ewich offers great food with a local flair, making it a must-visit if you’re in Wuppertal.

We celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary there on August 24th. Nice service was very accommodating. Food was very good and plentiful would highly recommend this country house Ewich.

At first we were very sad when the Ewich we knew closed its doors at the end of 2023. We were even more pleased about the reopening in February 2024. We've been there a few times now. I think you still need some time to find yourself. The service is nice. The dishes sound great on the menu, but the execution seems immature to our taste. I deliberately refrain from including details in this context. We will come back, but we will give the restaurant a little more time to develop first.

Wir waren heute das zweite Mal hier essen. Beim ersten Mal vor ein paar Monaten hatte es uns gut gefallen, heute dagegen leider gar nicht. Erst haben wir 1,5 Stunden auf unser Essen gewartet, dann kam das Essen und es war wirklich unterdurchschnittlich. Der Service war mehr als langsam, dann aber wiederum echt übergriffig. Als erwachsene Menschen braucht man sich nicht ungefragt vom Service-Personal duzen zu lassen! Sorry, aber das geht gar nicht. Ein weiterer Minuspunkt war, dass die Kleidung einer der Damen vom Service total verschmutzt war. Kann sein, dass sie auch in der Küche mitgearbeitet hat, aber dann kann man sich eine Schürze anziehen. So machte das alles keinen guten Eindruck. Positiv war lediglich das Ambiente. Im Biergarten haben wir gut gesessen.

We ate here for the second time today. We liked it the first time a few months ago, but unfortunately not at all today. First we waited 1.5 hours for our food, then the food came and it was really below average. The service was more than slow, but then again really aggressive. As an adult, you don't need to be on first-name terms with the service staff without being asked! Sorry, but that doesn't work at all. Another negative point was that one of the ladies' clothes was completely dirty from the service. It's possible that she also worked in the kitchen, but then you can wear an apron. So it all didn't make a good impression. The only positive thing was the ambience. We had a nice sit in the beer garden.

A visit is recommended - also by bike or as a hiker.

I have the impression that you can make a “good mark” at the Bergisch coffee table; 18.90 euros per person. We only received a second, half-full pot of coffee when we asked, so no one had 2 cups of coffee, as described. The portions of the ingredients for the Bergisch coffee table were all very manageable, the rice pudding was as hard as window putty. In addition to the waffles, the waitress asked for cherries, which we were happy to oblige. However, the bill then said 2.00 euros per person, which we had no idea about and the portion of cherries came in a very manageable bowl. We weren't offered the Schnäppsken either, okay. it was over 30 degrees... It's a shame about the Bergisch coffee table, but I can't comment on the other food.

After 3 attempts in the last few months under the new owner, I regret to say that the restaurant has deteriorated significantly. Every visit was different... Extremely long waiting times, overcrowded, overwhelmed service, overwhelmed kitchen, mediocre food quality, and finally warm wheat beer. Very unfortunate because the waitresses are really trying. The kitchen can currently maintain the previous level neither in terms of craftsmanship nor in terms of food quality. Both are just about average. I still hope that the store will get on the right track and focus on quality, better organization and higher quality kitchens in purchasing and staff in the future. All the best for that.

Yesterday, after a long time, we ate here again, now with a new owner. Unfortunately, the dishes didn't convince us, everything wasn't seasoned enough, the braised onions were light, completely tasteless and inedible, the vegetarian tarte flambée had no roasted onions, the vegetables were almost raw and couldn't convince at all due to the lack of seasoning. Last but not least, the vegetarian ones Fried potatoes only prepared in the deep fryer, of course without onions and unfortunately also without taste. All in all, not a satisfactory performance and not worth repeating for us, although we still ate the food.

Nice to sit outside in summer. Kitchen good, service very friendly. Inside rather uneasy about company. But the landlord can't do anything.

We were guests today, as a couple, on August 6th, 2024 and were thrilled from the outside, very cozy and really inviting! There were also enough parking spaces available. We've heard so many good things about this restaurant and wanted to have dinner here ourselves. The food was very tasty and everything was freshly prepared! The selection was also large and the service was very good, friendly and quick even though it was busy! The outdoor area where we sat was simply comfortable, and the inside is also very cozy and furnished with attention to detail! Price/performance perfect! We wanted to offer our children a Bergisch coffee table and were quite disappointed. Instead of coffee, tea or cocoa, a pot of coffee was put there without comment. At least the little children (3 and 5 years old) got a cup of milk when they asked. The quality of the food was okay overall, apart from the raw rice pudding, but the quantity was ridiculous for the price. The pricing itself is also a bit questionable. When making the reservation, the three and five year olds were still free, but they were then charged 8.90 each. In return they received two cups of milk, one cocoa and six waffles even though we were only five adults????? The hot cherries (also a very manageable portion) then cost another 6 x 2 euros, which was also not communicated. Conclusion: It would have been a little more of everything or at least asked if something else was wanted, but the price-performance ratio is a catastrophe. Paid a lot and nobody got fed, which is a shame

It was so good that we even went to the beautiful beer garden twice in one week. Super clean, very nice and attentive service and the schnitzel 👌🏼 as well as all other dishes. We'll definitely see each other again soon. Thank you!
