Fine dining in a unique environment

We discovered this restaurant by chance while searching online for a restaurant in Schwelm or the surrounding area that also serves hot meals throughout the day. That's how we came across Restaurant Sondermann. On our first visit, we quickly realized that the chef was also the owner of the restaurant. He gave us excellent advice regarding the dishes. The food – we've been there three times in a short period of time – is excellent, freshly prepared, and you'll definitely be full! Mr. Sondermann is also happy to accommodate special requests; for example, he made it possible for me to order fresh oysters there, which is difficult to find in this region. All in all: a down-to-earth, family-run restaurant that can compete with any other restaurant.

The food was good, but unfortunately not suitable for children, e.g., no fries, etc.

We had reserved a table for seven people for July 26, 2025. Initially, there were only parking spaces on the lawn. Then we had to wait at the entrance while our table was assembled. It was a bit tight for the seven of us. But the noise level was much worse. You couldn't understand a word from one side of the table to the other. The food was absolutely excellent. It's just a shame that it felt like a train station concourse. We won't be going back anytime soon. It's a shame, because the food is very good. Soundproofing would be a good idea. It would also be better for the staff.

We had a table reservation (which I would recommend) and had a very good meal there. The ambiance is inviting and authentic, and the service is prompt and friendly. The value for money is good, but you'll need to have a few extra bucks in your wallet. Parking is available right at the inn, and from the top of the mountain, you also have a fantastic panoramic view of Schwelm. We highly recommend this place to anyone who's hungry or thirsty, and extend our warmest regards to the visible and invisible staff of this country inn.

We were there for dinner yesterday. The food and service were absolutely excellent. We haven't had such a good meal in a restaurant in a long time. Everything was freshly prepared and tasted absolutely delicious.

Never again! An event with 30 people was booked. Times were communicated promptly, but not recorded. Apparently, the phone number wasn't recorded correctly either. I was confronted with screaming and very unfriendly staff with the group. There were no suggestions for solutions, but the threat of a lawyer came immediately! The ordered food was taken away out of desperation, which was a huge mistake. It was muddy and very salty. I and my guests will never go there again!!!!

We were left sitting there with the entire company. Instead of finding a solution, we were yelled at and insulted.

Actually, 0 stars – unfortunately, that's not possible. We were invited to a confirmation today. It was supposed to take place at the restaurant. It started at 1:30 p.m. in the church. After the church service (around 3:15 p.m.), we arrived at Sondermann's together, and the chef angrily approached us guests and the hostess in the parking lot. We were supposed to be there at 12:30 p.m. Well, that can't be right if the church doesn't start until 1:30 p.m. The hostess had reserved the room from 3:30 p.m. Now we couldn't celebrate there because he had other reservations starting at 5 p.m. The hostess was insulted and threatened to such an extent; I've never experienced anything like it. She was offered to take the food with her. But no matter what, she had to pay in full. No matter what!! We guests were stunned!! No accommodation – no apology – nothing!! Thirty people were now standing outside the restaurant, perplexed and totally disappointed. A guest immediately picked up his cell phone and called Am Rosendahl in Gevelsberg, and we were able to spontaneously drop by and even bring the food. Awesome!!! The service lovingly set and decorated the tables at top speed. They were actually still closed. We will definitely not be going to the Zur Bergeshöh shop again. I can recommend the restaurant at Rosendahl to everyone! It's not far away. Amazing service! They saved our confirmation!!!

Great food!! Came across it by chance while passing through and what can I say, we were really impressed. The food is freshly prepared and we were delighted with the modern preparation and the selection on the menu. The service takes some getting used to, but I still think it's warm 😉.

We were at the country inn on Good Friday. We spent very nice hours there with excellent food, very attentive service and a cozy atmosphere. The Easter menu was very appealing. Thank you for a very nice time with you. We'd love to come back

Definitely recommended. Reservations are definitely necessary as this inn is very busy. The service is courteous, friendly and can also answer questions about the dishes. There are enough parking spaces in front of the house. Great food, you can also choose between small and large portions. All in all, highly recommended.

I ordered the country pork schnitzel with fried potatoes, wild mushroom cream and leaf salad as a small portion. For EUR 18.50 I got a very juicy and well-seasoned schnitzel. There was enough wild mushroom cream in the wild mushroom cream and various mushrooms and the sauce was also delicious. The fried potatoes could have been a little crispier, but they were also good. The salad also had a pleasant dressing and even onion sprouts as a topping. The service was quite attentive and friendly.

Little is possible without a reservation. That says it all! 😉 The dishes are top-notch in terms of craftsmanship. From a culinary point of view, the kitchen is way ahead. I'd be happy to come back, even if I'm more of a spontaneous guest and less keen on reserving a table.

Nach einer Wanderung sind wir mit Appetit auf etwas Deftiges eingekehrt. Der Gasthof ist auf der Bergeshöh und von dem netten Gastraum aus hat man einen wunderbaren Fernblick. Meine Frau hatte ein vegetarisches Gericht mit Auberginen bestellt und ihr hat es gut geschmeckt. Mein Schnitzel vom Landschwein mit Bratkartoffeln und Pilzrahm war dagegen nicht nach meinem Geschmack. Das Fleisch war zwar zart aber geschmacklos, der Pilzrahm hat nur nach Sahne geschmeckt. Die Pilze waren hart und ebenfalls ohne Geschmack und Würze und die Bratkartoffeln weich und fettig. Obwohl ich lediglich die kleinere Portion bestellt hatte, war ich nach der Hälfte "satt". Eigentlich schade, denn der Service war in Ordnung und freundlich und die phantasievolle Speisekarte hätte etwas anderes erwarten lassen. Die Preise wären für ein geschmacklich gutes Gericht völlig angemessen gewesen.

Very friendly and courteous service, the food was great, especially the dressing on the side salad is great! I don't give full marks because the pasta dishes weren't al dente enough for me and I know restaurants with even nicer ambiences, but overall I'll happily eat there again.

The restaurant makes an antique impression. Quite the opposite to the prices, which in our opinion are greatly exaggerated. Even if everything is made fresh, prices should be adjusted to the market. So the whole thing could backfire!

We have been coming for several years and have never been disappointed. Always decently sized portions and really tasty (especially the sauces). If you're expecting fries here, you're in the wrong place. But there are more than enough schnitzel joints like this elsewhere. A very good restaurant with consistent quality, keep it up!

Waitress was a bit snippy at first. After that it went. The process was a bit slow. Had to point out that we wanted something to drink. The atmosphere is pretty old-school. Eating is a matter of taste. It wasn't mine. We were invited there. Introduced us to something good. Fried potatoes and ice cream were ok. Unfortunately not the rest.

Very good cuisine, nice service, etc... However, the toilets could use a renovation. It's still 70's style... That's why only 4 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

If you want to eat well, this is the place for you.

Not recommended with small children. No children's meals. No fries or anything like that. The homemade Rösti (large potato pancake) was not recommended. Almost black on the outside and still raw on the inside... schnitzel was tasty but overall the portions were very manageable.

Food was good except for the greasy fried potatoes. The waiter was friendly and very accommodating. What didn't work at all was the older, extremely unfriendly and bad-tempered service. A reason for us not to come back again.

Wir haben gerade den Geburtstag meines Mannes mit Freunden dort gefeiert. Wir konnten vorher ein individuelles Menü vereinbaren, das war sehr schön und sehr unkompliziert. Wir essen bei Sondermann schon seit vielen Jahren und waren immer begeistert über das super leckere Essen. Auch diesmal war es fantastisch und sehr reichhaltig. Immer wieder gerne. Wir waren als geschlossene Gesellschaft im Landgasthof. Bereits im Vorfeld erfolgte eine gute Beratung bezüglich Essen (Menü) durch Herrn Sondermann. Am Abend war alles schön eingedeckt in den ohnehin sehr gemütlich und geschmackvoll eingerichteten Räumlichkeiten. Das Essen war qualitativ hochwertig und super lecker zubereitet. Die beiden Damen vom Service haben alles hervorragend gemanagt, waren freundlich und aufmerksam. Alle unsere Gäste waren begeistert und wir haben einen schönen Abend verbracht. Absolute Empfehlung!

Der Landgasthof Sondermann's ist ein sehr empfehlenswertes Lokal für Menschen, die gutes Essen in gepflegter Atmosphäre schätzen. Die Mitarbeiter und Mitarbeiterinnen sind stets aufmerksam und sehr freundlich.

Wir waren heute spontan hier zum Essen. Ich hatte ein lecker Suppe, ein Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln und Waldpilzsoße. Die Bedienung war aufmerksam, schnell zuvorkommend und freundlich. Es ist möglich kontaktlos mit EC-Karte zu bezahlen und Bar. Wir kommen bestimmt noch mal wieder, macht weiter so.

Ich hatte leider Pech. Das Rib-Eye-Steak war zäh und sehnig. Der Preis von 34,50 € für ca. 400 g hätte mich schon stutzig machen müssen. Es ist ja kaum möglich so ein Steak zu diesem Preis einzukaufen. Wurde mir auch aufgrund meiner Reklamation sofort gut geschrieben. Die angebotenen Bratkartoffeln entpuppten sich als frittierte Fertigkartoffeln. Das telefonisch angebotene Menü wurde uns nicht angeboten. Sehr schönes Ambiente und freundliche Bedienung. Die Speisen meiner Freunde waren in Ordnung.

Service top, unaufdringlich und aufmerksam. Sehen leere Gläser, nehmen Order direkt auf und kaum Wartezeit bis das nächste Getränk kommt. Die Gerichte wurden einfach perfekt mit hochwertige Zutaten zubereitet. Leckere Saucen, Fleisch wie es sein muss und als kostenlose Vorspeise eine ausgezeichnete Gulaschsuppe. In dem Gastraum fühlt man sich ehe wie in einem Wohnzimmer, das gefiel uns auch. Als Tipp Voranmeldung ratsam.

Via internet gevonden. Waren vroeg en daardoor de eersten. Buiten de kaart ook diverse gerechten mogelijk. Een heeft een heerlijk warm geitenkaasje in honing besteld aangevuld met aparte salade. Beiden overheerlijk. De ander heeft een warme carmenbert met daarboven en daaronder rösti besteld. Ook met dezelfde salade erbij. Het was beiden overheerlijk met een prachtig uitzicht. Van harte aanbevolen door ons. HELE VRIENDELIJKE EN GASTVRIJE BEDIENING.

Good restaurant with tasty samples of local food. Nice location overlooking Schwelm and surroundings. Free parking in front of the door, but also nice to walk up the hill there and a nice summer day. Food is of good quality and variety. Mostly inspired by local cuisine. Good for family meals and celebrations.

Super Restaurant. Essen und Bedienung echt Top! Ich hatte ein Steak, welches für mich perfekt durch und auf den perfekten Punkt Medium war. Als Beilage gab es einen Salat und Bratkartoffeln welche auch sehr lecker waren. Wenn man im Sommer draußen sitzt kann man über Schwelm und Wuppertal schauen, eine super Aussicht! Gibt keine 5 Punkte da ich andere Restaurants bevorzuge, jedoch würde ich wieder kommen.

Wir sind seit Jahren Stammgast im Restaurant zur Bergeshöhe... wann immer man einen besonderen Wunsch am Inhaber und Koch richtet wird man angenehm überrascht werden. Er ist mit Leidenschaft und großer Freude bei seiner Arbeit. Mit der selben Freude erlebt man sein gesamtes Team. Wer auch immer sich zu Mittag einen klasse Eintopf gönnen möchte oder mit was anderem verwöhnt werden will der ist hier am richtigen Ort. Während ich diese Bewertung gerade schreibe wird mir ein kleiner Käsegruß aus der Küche zum Ende unseres Abend gebracht. Schönen Abend noch...😀

Wir haben am Sonntag hier mit 19 Personen Geburtstag gefeiert und sind zuvorkommend bedient worden. Das Restaurant ist schön auf den Höhen von Schwelm gelegen und bietet​ einen tollen Ausblick. Die Gasträume sind ansprechend dekoriert und sehr sauber. Die Tische waren gedeckt und Wasser stand in Kühlern bereit. Es lag eine Karte zum Anlass mit vier Gerichten aus. Der Service war sehr aufmerksam und schnell. Die Gläser sind nicht lange leer geblieben. Das Essen wurde für Alle gleichzeitig und sehr warm serviert. Die Portionen waren groß, wurden ansprechend präsentiert und haben uns sehr gut geschmeckt. Kleiner Kritikpunkt, die beiden sehr leckeren Bohnenbündel auf dem Steak wirkten etwas verloren. Hier hätte ich mir mehr Gemüse gewünscht. Zum Abschluss gab es noch Kaffeespezialitäten und eine angemessene Rechnung. Wir haben zu einem fairen Preis hervorragend gegessen und sind sehr zuvorkommend bedient worden. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Ländlich gelegene Gastronomie mit Blick auf Schwelm. Restaurantbereich mit Liebe eingerichtet. Bedienung stets freundlich und aufmerksam. Ausreichend große Karte. Schnitzelvariationen, Steaks, Pasta etc. Portionen mehr als ausreichend. Wir waren jetzt einige Male dort essen. Frischer ansprechender Beilagensalat, Schnitzel aus der Pfanne, schmackhafte Saucen. Schön wären Stoffservietten und etwas Hintergrundmusik. Ansonsten fühlen wir uns dort willkommen und gehen immer wieder gerne mal dorthin.

Wir waren in diesem Jahr schon mehrmals da. Ob mittags zum Eintopf oder am Abend zu Filet oder Lammkotelett, bis dato wurden wir noch nicht enttäuscht. Es war immer lecker und der Preis war angemessen. Freuen uns schon auf den nächsten Besuch ! PS: am Wochenende besser Tisch reservieren.
