Update from last year's post further down. This time the weather was on our side and there were beautiful views from the restaurant. Food was equally as last year, I had a lovely Rehbraten mit Spätzle. One word of adice: you can't pay by card, only cash or bank Transfer! Oct 2024: This was a spur of the moment decidion to come here. And it was also recommended by Frau Laible. Excellent local fayre at reasonable prices, good wine and beer. I had the Rehgulasch (I love game!), the others had the Schlachtplatte (massive portion! Very good!), Rumpsteak, and Schnitzel. Everything cooked well, served quickly. The views from the restaurant are stunning. Need to get back on a sunny day, when you can sit outside! Cannot fault this place!

We came here after reading the online reviews. The view, the beauty of the restaurant, and the exceptional quality of the food made it truly special. I highly recommend it.

Highly recommended. The inn is located outside the village, nestled among the vineyards. The food and drinks are very reasonably priced and of excellent quality. The staff are very friendly. Important: Always make a reservation in advance. The restaurant is very popular.

We wanted to eat there today (October 18, 2025). I dutifully rang the bell outside the dining room as instructed so they could assign us a table. I rang the bell once, no response... no problem, the dining room was busy; they must be busy. The second time, no response... but three (!) of the waitresses made eye contact with me. So someone would be here soon. No one came. So I rang the bell a third time, no response. So we walked through the dining room outside to a free table and sat down. The waitress arrived, a young blonde woman, and reprimanded the couple at the next table for sitting there without being assigned a table. The couple wasn't pleased, but stayed seated. The said waitress turned to us, "...did you just sit down like that too?!?" "Yes, no one came despite my repeated ringing and eye contact." "THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE REPORTED AT THE COUNTER AND NOT JUST WALKED THROUGH LIKE THAT." Your tone somehow reminded me of my time in the German army." "Oh, I SHOULD HAVE...?" "Yes, but now you can stay seated!" "Nope... others are also happy about the sales we leave there...?" Got up, left... Dear operators, owners, managers, you can do it that way with untrained temporary workers and with a focus on walk-in customers who might be willing to pay a lot - but the guests still think it's stupid... oh, we weren't guests after all... and our sales went to the Durbach wine bar. In any case, I'm one anecdote richer, and the country inn... oh, we had a good meal somewhere else...

A lovely stop after a strenuous hike today; we were really hungry! A very friendly welcome and pleasant service. Our meal, the hunter's schnitzel with spaetzle and the sauerbraten, which was buttery soft with noodles, was really good. We were also full! Unfortunately, we found the side salad a bit boring... The espresso was also very good.

Disappointing. We used to come here often, and this is the first time in three years. The portions have gotten smaller despite the friendliness of the staff. The cheese spaetzle, in particular, were not good. Soft spaetzle from a packet, no cheese flavor, and not a single fried onion. If you're going to offer a dish like this, you should find out how it's prepared beforehand. Our conclusion: It's a real shame about this beautifully situated, rustic inn.

Hummelwälder Hof was highly recommended to us. Our expectations were fully met: a fantastic view of the vineyards, a wonderful atmosphere, the service staff is very friendly and takes care of guests immediately. Many thanks to the kitchen staff; the food was delicious.

We've driven past it many times, but we missed something. Today we stopped in without a reservation. Delicious food, great atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent wines. I had a "Schlachtplate" (meatball dish) and a slice of onion cake for dessert (...gggs). The price/performance ratio was excellent. This won't be our last visit there. Our dog was also welcome.

The restaurant is very nice, we just had to wait a bit to be seated. The waitress brought us the wrong drink twice, which I don't think is a big deal. But the food was a bit boring 🫣 3 vegetarian Maultaschen WITHOUT any sauce, but one lonely slice of cucumber and a tiny piece of bell pepper (in the photo, one Maultasche had already been cut in half for the child, but the rest was really like that 🙈) So what's the point of the bread? Which is also pretty dry... the expensive side salad is definitely a better choice! The Käsespätzle also only had a bit of grated cheese and fried onions on them. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it.

Great restaurant perched on the hills!! The value for money is fantastic, and the menu is really inexpensive. The view is magnificent. The restaurant can accommodate guests all afternoon, whether you're hiking or not 😉 However, you must pay in cash or by bank transfer, but not by credit card.

A beautiful place, but unfortunately, the hot food is awful. The spaetzle is overcooked, the sauce is lumpy—everything tastes industrially produced. A real shame.

The two of us went there for dinner yesterday. The weather was beautiful, and we would have preferred to sit outside. Since we didn't have a reservation, we were seated in the dining room, as they said there were no other spaces available. However, we could see that the terrace wasn't full. The food was okay, but nothing more. The service was a complete disaster. We definitely won't be back!

Great location. A bit out of the way but easily accessible by car. The food was good. Service was very attentive. The view is phenomenal. Highly recommended.

Surrounded by vineyards, the inn is located somewhat secluded between Bottenau and Durbach. Its summer terrace offers stunning views stretching all the way to the Vosges Mountains. Rustic, home-style cooking. A farm shop offers its own wines and schnapps, as well as other specialties. Ideal for celebrations of all kinds. Highchairs are available, wheelchair accessible, and accessible restrooms are available. Plenty of parking is available directly in front of the country inn. Always worth a stop.

Aside from this, we really enjoyed our meal: beautiful views of the vineyards, delicious dishes (we chose the schnitzel, which we were eyeing), generous portions, and very friendly service. After a hike to the Durbacher wine bottle, we were eager to stop for a bite to eat. We were immediately greeted warmly and shown to a table. The service was very friendly, quick, and humorous. The vegetarian options initially seem a bit limited, as only two official dishes are listed as such (spinach and cream cheese Maultaschen and Käsespätzle), but upon closer inspection, we also find a cheese platter, quark, and similar dishes on the snack menu. The food was consistently delicious. The starters and side salads were excellent, the main course was plentiful and as we would expect from a country inn, and the prices were fair. We'd be happy to return. (And even more so if there are any vegetarian/vegan alternatives on the menu 😉)

A restaurant in a beautiful location, but the food quality is substandard. The salad is tasteless and watery, the Maultaschen are supermarket-quality, the service outside is good, but the elderly lady inside is grumpy and unfriendly, yelling at customers. I will never visit this place again.

Three cycling friends were there for dinner and were allowed to lean our bikes against trees. The terrain is uneven and the bike rack was occupied. This bothered one of the front desk staff so much that she loudly searched the terrace for cyclists like a sergeant major. We had to leave our hot food and put the bikes away. Our conclusion: this is not how you treat guests. The food is below average, the terrace is lovely. We won't be coming back, and the guests who witnessed the escalation won't be coming back either, they told us. We can't imagine how anyone in the front desk could employ such an elderly employee. Truly terrible.

On a mountain bike tour, we stopped at the Hummelsfelder Hof. The signposted bicycle parking was full, so we parked our bikes next door under the trees on the lawn. We'd just finished our main meal when an elderly lady ran up and asked who the bikes on the lawn belonged to. We answered. Then we received a very rude, commanding order to immediately remove the bikes from the lawn and place them in the bicycle parking area. This was completely unacceptable. Hence this poor review. The view from the restaurant is very good, the food is average. The Maultaschen are good supermarket quality. The salad dressing also had a hint of vinegar, oil, and spices. We won't be visiting this place again; that's not how you treat customers. The fact that the restaurant uses flimsy arguments to promote propaganda against renewable energies has no influence on the review.

Not recommended for a spontaneous visit! When you hear the word "country inn," you'd expect hungry, thirsty hikers to be welcomed with open arms. At the Hummelswälder Hof, that's far from the case. When we informed them that we didn't have a reservation, the waitress's reaction was appropriate: reserved. After checking with the manager, they graciously granted us a table in the winter garden. But despite sufficient capacity, we were seated at a table directly next to a couple with a large dog. Our skepticism about this (we had a small dachshund with us) was consistently ignored, and since the other dog meant there wasn't enough room for us to sit opposite each other, we were seated side by side like schoolchildren. From there, we had an attractive view of the terrace with plenty of empty seats, which didn't fill up during our stay. The waitress who served us was very friendly, but the cheesecake we ordered was mediocre at best. We didn't feel welcome, so we were glad we hadn't ordered anything large and were able to end our visit quickly. Sometimes you just don't react quickly enough, otherwise we would have left immediately. We certainly won't be coming back.

Only partially. Wonderful terrace with a view of the Rhine valley. The industrial spaetzle and side salad were free of any offending flavor. Cash only, welcome to the 21st century! There's a lot of room for improvement in service; note: a simple "Good evening" or "Welcome" doesn't even incur overhead...

A very negative experience with the service staff. We mistakenly missed the main entrance and went straight to the terrace. The waitress then addressed us very rudely and arrogantly, saying, "Don't do that again!" We've never experienced anything like that before, and under normal circumstances, we would have left immediately, but we didn't want to let things escalate. After our meal, we unfortunately have to conclude that there are far better, more customer-oriented restaurants in the Ortenau region. We would not recommend it!

We were here for the first time today and spent a lovely afternoon at the country inn. Everything was perfect and highly recommended. We're threatening to order again, meaning we'll be back. Keep it up and thank you. (Sept. 2020) Today, as announced, we were here again. We had another lovely afternoon in 2021 and, based on two experiences, can only say bravo and keep it up. We were here again in July 2025, but this time the service unfortunately left a lot to be desired. There's plenty of room for improvement to return to the old standard. Greetings from M. & I. Visit on July 19, 2025 The ambiance, location, and view are all great. Unfortunately, we weren't satisfied with the quality of the food. The rump steak came without seasoning, salt, or pepper, and the lettuce leaves had brown spots. Because the meat was cut very unevenly, it wasn't cooked to medium. What a shame!

Discovered by chance, as Staufenberg Castle was closed for dining. Nice place with a beautiful view of the vineyards and good food. I'd love to go back.

Unfortunately, a very disappointing experience! We were really looking forward to our visit to the Hummelswälder Hof – unfortunately, we were bitterly disappointed. Upon arrival, we had to wait a full 10-15 minutes at a bell before someone even showed up to show us to our table. When we got to our seats, the waitress in charge of the outside area snapped at us in an unfriendly tone, asking us why we didn't have a menu. She ignored our polite explanation that we had simply been shown to our table and no menu was mentioned at all – instead, she continued her rude manner. No apology, no understanding – just condescending behavior. This is definitely not what you imagine a pleasant restaurant visit to be like. Hospitality looks like something else! Unfortunately, we absolutely do not recommend it – we are disappointed and will certainly not be coming back. A real shame😔

Service? Absolutely zero. The older lady with blond hair served us very poorly: constant sighs, an unfriendly tone, and strange looks the whole time. Comes to the table: "Radler." We hadn't ordered one, so we say we ordered a beer, and the waitress grumbles back that she just said it wrong. Yeah, it's not a big deal per se, but we didn't do anything wrong by asking nicely because we had ordered beer. Then she brings the food and simply says dryly: "Clear the tray." Be a little nicer, please – besides, you're responsible for clearing away the unused serving utensils! Truly great experience – never again. A quick note about the food: tough schnitzel, really so-so, wouldn't be worth a detour.

After a long hike, we were really hungry. Not much was open in the area, so we went to the Landgasthof Hummelswälder. What a great idea that was! The food was mediocre and the service was awful. About the food: The prices were comparable to today's, but for frozen fries and tough schnitzel that almost made my teeth fall out? Quantity was clearly prioritized over quality. I love it. Now, about the service. One of the worst experiences of my life. The elderly blonde lady with her accent—maybe she was the owner—given us every interaction with annoyed sighs and unpleasant expressions. If the customers are getting on your nerves, just say so, Madame. Or change careers—be a prison guard or something... It's best to avoid customer contact to have a brilliant career. Okay, I admit: We were really difficult guests, too. When she came back after a minute to take our drink order, and we dared to say we needed a few more minutes, that was probably asking too much. Then we also had the nerve to thank her, ask for salt, and finally the bill – which came 20 minutes later. In the meantime, we had to ask two other waitresses. The last one did it immediately and was very friendly – the only positive aspect of our visit. It's a shame that the horrible woman had disappeared when we left the restaurant – I would have preferred to tell her my feedback right there on the terrace, like the guests at the next table did. They, too, were completely dissatisfied with this lady's service, but left immediately without ordering anything – they were so outraged. We would have left, too, but we were simply hungry – and there really wasn't anything else open in the area at that time of day.

Small restaurant in the middle of the forest. A moment of relaxation guaranteed, reserved for those in the know or, as we discovered by chance. It's not haute cuisine, but we know we're not going to a gourmet restaurant. Pleasant service, worth discovering, but don't be too squeamish, it's still a little paradise.

We were a group of 10 people who visited on a Friday evening. I had rump steak with fries, which I highly recommend. I hadn't ordered the salad, which was also reflected in the reasonable price. Service was friendly and quick. The wait for the food was perfectly acceptable; the restaurant was busy. The location and view are beautiful. Most of the group found the food very good, although the cheese spaetzle was found to be too bland and dry. The value for money is good; I would recommend the restaurant and would gladly return.

The outdoor seating is beautiful. The service was very friendly. I was extremely disappointed with the food. I was looking forward to cheese spaetzle. It wasn't good at all. Bland, ready-made spaetzle from a bag with meaningless cheese. The Jägerschnitzel—it couldn't be simpler. But since it was very busy, I might have ordered the wrong thing.

The ambiance is very nice. They had a problem with my dog, though. Or rather, my 6-kilo Paula was sitting next to me on the chair, on her blanket, sleeping. After an hour, the food arrived. The waitresses had been to the table four times. The manager, or something, then announced that the dog had to be put down immediately... Otherwise, everything would be covered in hair. It was a Havanese, lying on the blanket without making a sound (an allergic dog, doesn't shed). They could have said it in a friendly way. The food, unfortunately, wasn't my cup of tea either. Spaetzle from a packet. Sauce also from a packet. Schnitzel's breading was weird. Chicken was dry. But it was cheap. Still, I won't go there again.

Unfortunately, the food isn't good at all. The salad is boring, the cheese spaetzle is very bland and dry. The rest of the food is also rather lackluster, with lots of ready-made items. Service is equally poor and only moderately friendly. It's a real shame, as the location, the surroundings, and the terrace are beautiful.

Incredibly, since the tables on the terrace were reserved for 6 p.m., we weren't allowed to enjoy a quick glass of wine there, even though we arrived at 5:15 p.m. Extremely inflexible and especially annoying for me as a hiker who was really looking forward to a cool glass of wine with a view.

Hidden away and not easy to find, we stopped at the Hummelswälder Hof. The inn's location, with its view of the Ortenau region, is beautiful and perfect for hiking. The welcome was friendly, and the bell is quite clever. The ambiance is very rural, as you'd expect. Everything was lovingly decorated and furnished. Our orders were taken promptly, and the drinks and food arrived quickly. The prices for the drinks and food are more than fair. You don't see that very often these days. The food was tasty and the portions were good. You don't expect anything fancy here. I would only criticize a few minor things. Perhaps the spaetzle should be tossed in the pan with salt and butter again so there's no water floating on the plate. Use bowls with spoons, not a cake plate without any cutlery. Perhaps the hunter's schnitzel shouldn't have been cooked quite as long. The potatoes served with the trout were very large and unevenly cut. It doesn't look very nice to carelessly drape a few misshapen potatoes on a plate. Serving Black Forest gateau on a warm plate is also suboptimal. But we enjoyed it and would gladly return.

We were hiking in the area today and had lunch there. The view on the terrace is great. We were served quickly, even though it was very busy - the young staff do a good job. The food was good and wasn't overpriced. We can recommend it and we would be happy to come back on the next hike!

As a Baden resident on vacation with the family, we were looking forward to a home-style meal. Unfortunately that didn't happen: Schnitzel was almost black, the dark side was placed discreetly on the bottom. The fries came lukewarm, the gravy came out of the bag, as did the spaetzle. (convenience) The staff was very friendly and took note of the feedback. It would have been better to ask my landlady beforehand, she wasn't surprised by our report, she doesn't recommend her guesthouse to her holiday guests because of this poor quality. We will look for a more solid guesthouse on our next vacation home. It's a shame, unfortunately the good view doesn't make up for it. Too bad Renate Windisch

Great country inn in an idyllic location in the middle of the vines. We were there last night. Very friendly service staff. The only thing that bothered me was that, apart from a salad, there was no purely plant-based dish. The vegetarian Maultaschen could be offered as a vegan version, for example. My meat blackheads were very happy though :-)

I was there for the second time and was very surprised... The reception and service were impeccable, very friendly and pleasant. Full 5 stars for that. About the food: The prices are comparatively cheap, but the portion of spaetzle with sauce was really bland for our child. The jus was watery and tasteless and the spaetzle itself wasn't a highlight. Since I had cheese spaetzle myself, I immediately noticed a visual difference to our child's spaetzle: Mine looked like it came out of a bag. Which wouldn't have been a bad thing if the taste had been there. But unfortunately a very neutral cheese was used, so all in all it was rather disappointing. The side salad was flawless and my wife's meal (sausages) was fine. But I wonder what has happened since my last visit, when I left with 5 stars for the food...

Rustic restaurant located on the edge of the forest. We had reserved in advance and were greeted warmly by the very nice service and served very professionally, even though the restaurant was full to the last seat, which was very positive for us. About the food: We're not used to star-studded restaurants, but we like to go out for a good home-style meal, but I have to say that we didn't like it this time. The spaetzle was too soft and without salt, the pork from the Jägerschnitzel was quite dry (despite the sauce) and there was just a certain amount of love missing from the food. I had the impression that the ingredients were not tasted before they left the kitchen...

When I imagine sunny days and ignore the winter day on which we visited this restaurant, it takes my breath away for a moment because of how idyllic the winery and restaurant is located on the edge of the forest and vineyards. Simple, good, authentic and tasty food was served to us by very friendly staff. Particularly rare today for “lunch”! We were well looked after, like rarely! There are enough parking spaces available!

Unfortunately not 5 points because: The steak I had was NOT good at all! The room gets very loud very quickly. The price-performance ratio is too high! Now the positive: The atmosphere that emanates from the farm is fantastic. The location is awesome! The staff is outstanding! The sauerbraten is really very good!

I had the pleasure of visiting the Landgasthof Hummelswälder Hof and can only share positive impressions. The inn is a bit out of the way, which makes it a true retreat in the idyllic landscape with a view of the vineyards. The combination of the rural idyll and the nearby nature creates a relaxing atmosphere that invites you to linger. You can choose between a bright winter garden and a traditional dining room, depending on your preference for ambience and mood. Both options provide a cozy and inviting experience. The home-style cuisine at the Hummelswälder Hof is truly remarkable. The range of dishes on the menu is varied and offers something for every taste. It would be unfair to highlight one particular dish, as everything that comes out of the kitchen tastes excellent and is lovingly prepared. Every dish is a small work of art that pampers the palate. I would particularly like to emphasize the service. We were greeted with a beaming smile and shown to our table. Despite the high occupancy in the winter garden and the dining room, our drinks and food orders were received quickly and friendly. I've often experienced longer wait times at other restaurants, but here the speed of service was impressively fast. A recommendation from me: reserve a table in advance! Although the country inn has a lot of space, it is very busy and I can understand why. We had a wonderful evening and will definitely come back. The Hummelswälder Hof is an insider tip that you shouldn't miss!

Very nicely located inn in the Hummelswald, we have been there several times, the food was delicious and the service was friendly. What I like is the opening times, they are open every day from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., which you rarely find anymore

We were invited to a wedding reception and had a spacious adjoining room. Rustic atmosphere, the restaurant is located in the vineyards. Unfortunately there was fog all day. Good home-style food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere. Staff was friendly and attentive. A successful day that will have a positive effect for a long time. We would be happy to come back.
