A very good, small but fine restaurant. Very cozy and pleasant atmosphere. The food and drink selection is very good and the special thing is that the menu can be found on the walls throughout the restaurant. The owner is very friendly and takes time to chat to guests at their tables. A table must be reserved in advance, otherwise you will not be able to visit the restaurant.

Very good food, very nice service from the boss and the boss with some Interested information about Emden and pleasant jazz music in the background gave us a very nice evening. We were there again the following day 😁

Really great! I went there spontaneously with a friend and got a table very flexibly. The staff was highly professional and at the same time grounded, friendly and funny. The menu is spread out on the wall and you were given very good advice. Priced in the upper mid-range, but absolutely recommended (starter, main course, bottle of wine, espresso for about 45 p.p.)!

A small restaurant run with a lot of warmth....There is such a nice and quiet atmosphere in the restaurant....the food is very delicious.....we were there 3 years ago and nothing has changed.. ..everything is still as great as it was back then....make sure you make a reservation‼️‼️‼️

Cute restaurant that is run with a lot of love and passion. We were only in Emden for a few days, but the first visit was so nice and the food was so delicious that we ate there a second time. You shouldn't miss the Welvaart when you're in Emden!

First of all, one thing. You should definitely make a reservation here. The restaurant doesn't have that much space and so you may be turned away without a reservation. Especially at peak times. To eat: There is mainly fish here. But of course also some dishes with meat such as schnitzel and goulash. The menu is spread out on the wall and you have to walk around the restaurant to see everything. We all chose a fish dish. And we haven't regretted it. Despite the fact that the food is always freshly prepared, we didn't have to wait long. The fish for all of us was to die for and the fried potatoes were very tasty. But the best part was the side salad. The combination with sweet berries was simply delicious. The restaurant: Small but nice. When the weather is good, there is an outdoor terrace in front of the restaurant. Then of course the number of places increases. There aren't that many tables in the restaurant itself. Therefore please reserve. Reading the menu is interesting as it is spread out on the wall throughout the restaurant. (It's very sustainable and you can look at other visitors' plates and be inspired) The staff... We received a very friendly welcome. We were happy that the reservation went well. You had been on vacation until that day... The function of the menu was explained to us and dishes were recommended. The landlady was very nice and accommodating. The nice gentleman who brought us food (probably her husband) was also very accommodating. Guests without a reservation who arrived after us were put off until 7 p.m. because it was fully booked at the peak time of 6 p.m. This was nice and polite and not as partially described here. About the price: Of course, fresh fish costs a little more, but so does a rump steak. The prices are normal in this comparison. The schnitzels cost from 18 euros with side dishes and are freshly beaten when ordered. CONCLUSION: The restaurant is definitely worth a visit. I can understand the positive reviews and can only recommend the restaurant. If we go on holiday nearby again, we would be happy to come back (with reservation:-)

A really very special place where you can only feel very comfortable. You can't describe it, you have to experience it. Very good food, and very nice and friendly staff.

Completely overrated for me. Without a reservation you have no chance of getting a table. Although four tables were still free, everyone was sent away again. I find it completely annoying that the “menu” was on boards on the wall. People stood at tables where people ate and looked at the table over plates. When we had our own food, there were people standing right at the table. I found that uncomfortable. My husband had the herring tartare. It was very dry, there is no dressing with it. There was also too much fruit on his plate, but that's a matter of taste. I had the plaice fillet with mushrooms. The plaice was very floury, the mushrooms were swimming in fat and there was no sauce.

Well, it was Friday and we hadn't made a reservation, and of course there weren't any seats available. But we haven't experienced such a brusque and hurtful rejection from the owner in a long time; my wife had tears in her eyes. Has the catering industry actually learned nothing from Corona?

Great food, such as the East Frisian goulash, which really tastes great. There was also a very nice and fun conversation with the host couple. We laughed a lot and can definitely recommend a visit.

The older lady from the service could no longer be surpassed in terms of audacity today. I get around Germany a lot because of my job and have also eaten out in various federal states and restaurants. But the “service” offered here today was the most subterranean thing I have ever experienced. We (two people) came to the restaurant at 1:00 p.m. and asked for a table for two. The waitress (who had been chatting with guests) turned to us and replied "Are you making a reservation"? We answered no. With us everything only works with a reservation. I have to say that except for two tables, all the tables were empty and also one in the outside area. A lady in the restaurant asked about the conditions "but everything else is still free". The waitress replied "yes, but you won't get a table without a reservation" and threw us out of the restaurant with a rather brisk tone. We found and still find such behavior absolutely disgusting and not at all appropriate towards the paying guest. Should I ever be in this city again I will avoid this restaurant at all costs...and hopefully potential guests who read this will do the same. This “service” sucks The answer from the owner and portraying me or us as liars is the pinnacle of it all. Great fish dishes. We have rarely felt so welcome in a restaurant.

We ate here twice. First reserved on Thursday because of the reviews and immediately after dinner for Saturday. So we had a delicious meal there twice. Both the host and the hostess are very warm and ensure order and a pleasant atmosphere. The chef knows his craft and you can taste it in every dish. Hence the 5 stars.

We are allowed to be guests twice. It wasn't so easy to find a restaurant in Emden that had a large selection of fish dishes. Here we found what we were looking for. Nice service, good food, rustic atmosphere.

We too can only join in. The food was very good, we had never eaten the “Matjestartar” starter before and it was worth it. The owners are super friendly and have a dry sense of humor. The atmosphere is so pleasant, you don't sit table to table so that every conversation can be overheard, something we haven't experienced that often. Absolutely recommended.

We were there today at 7 p.m. There was still one table free outside, everything inside. We asked if we could have the table, but were turned away, they were closing straight away, even though the internet said kitchen until 8:30 p.m. Dumb. Then I wanted to reserve a table for Friday and the door was slammed in my face three times because the people didn't want anyone or me to enter the restaurant. Now I will never enter it either. That was so rude, it was a waste of my money. An absolute NO GO.🤬🤬🤬

A beautiful fish restaurant in downtown Emden. Very nice atmosphere. The highlight is that the dishes hang on boards on the wall. The food is super delicious. Price performance ratio top. You immediately feel at home, thanks to the great owner family. 100% recommendation. It is important to make a reservation, it is only a small but very good restaurant.

It's really tasty and has authentic cuisine. Definitely go after prior reservation. It's a shame that the kitchen fumes move into the dining room. Maybe there will be a decent extractor hood at some point.

Nice fish restaurant, delicious dishes, friendly staff. If you like fish, you have to eat there.

I ate the Skantjes, flatfish from the Emden region. You can only get them around here, I've never seen them on a menu anywhere else. A delicacy that almost melts in your mouth, the fish was so tender and perfectly fried! The fried potatoes were really good too. And the salad was creatively refined with sprouts, blueberries and grapes, very tasty. Not to forget the cozy atmosphere and the loving service! So, dear fish eaters, take advantage of the opportunity when you are in Emden. But don't forget to make a reservation, because the Welvaart is not big and is always busy!

The reservation via the website initially seems futile, but a call 3 days later clears things up. “We had so much to do,” the friendly landlady explains to me in a voice that would make the wonderful Mechthild Großmann pale. A little later the email confirmation arrives. At 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, the comfortably furnished restaurant is already well filled. Piano Jazz plays discreetly in the background. The extensive fish menu "hangs on the wall without contact," explains my dynamic and quick-witted conversation partner on the phone. We came across the Welvaart restaurant more by chance and were welcomed by a very friendly and relaxed landlady and team. Parts of the menu were hanging all over the walls, which loosened things up upon arrival and with all other visits to the restaurant. We chose different fish dishes for dinner, our eyes ate it and it was delicious... a dream. In the same week we became repeat offenders, were warmly welcomed like any other guest, ate different fish dishes and were absolutely thrilled again!

Rarely eaten so tasty and fresh! The coastal fish soup, the Embdens Welvaart and the fish on crab foam were a dream! Someone knows a thing or two about the craft and puts a lot of love into it! We felt very comfortable! Thank you very much...we'll be back!

Well, first of all I can't understand the few negative reviews due to not making a reservation! We called spontaneously on the first evening and got a table without any problems. The food and the operators were sensational, we found great advice, the food was explained for us Hanoverians ;). Because of the great first evening, we made a reservation for the second evening. In total we tried 4 different dishes, soup and wine, everything more than convinced us. We will definitely come back next time we visit East Frisia!

Sehr schönes Ambiente, freundliches Personal, tolle Qualität sehr lecker. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und kommen bestimmt wieder.

Essen top, Service top, Ambiente top, um 11:30 war der Laden immer noch zu obwohl ab 11 geöffnet sein soll, haben Spaziergang gemacht und um 12 war die Tür offen. Aber die Frau am Telefon ist ja unglaublich mies gelaunt, habe noch nie sowas unfreundliches gehabt. Schade drum, da alles andere top war (auße eben noch die Öffnungszeiten). Darum 2 Sterne Abzug. Ich reserviere wieder und hoffe auf Besserung, dann erhöh ich auch die Punkte.

Ich war noch nicht oft hier und möchte mich ungern äußern, aber folgendes möchte ich anmerken. Mein Essen war in Ordnung, auch von Preis Leistungsverhältnis. Die Bedienung war freundlich und aufmerksam, nur die Chefin, Ich fand sie redet sehr viel, aber das ist mein Eindruck.

Ein leckeres Restaurant mit einer ührigen Chefin, tollen Klönsnack und leckeres Essen. Wir hatten einen Weltklasse Labskaus und Salat Fischmarkt, vorweg noch tolle Kartoffelecken. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Wir werden wiederkommen.

Wir hatten einen schönen Abend mit sehr leckerem Essen und netten Gesprächen mit dem Gastgeberpaar. Wenn wir mal wieder vor Ort sind, kommen wir gerne wieder. Der Tipp kam von zwei Emdern. Unbedingt reservieren. Die Bratkartoffeln waren spitze. Aber nicht nur die.

Sehr leckeres Essen, toll angerichtet die Salate waren 1a mit Früchten , Nüssen tolles Dressing. Durften auch etwas länger sitzen bleiben obwohl schon Feierabend war. Das einzigste was mir nicht gefallen hat, sind die Speisekarten..... sie hängen als Tafel an der Wand. Man muss dann so von einem Tisch ( die teilweise besetzt waren) zum andern um zu lesen was drauf steht. Das war nicht so meins. Aber sonst alles prima!!

Ein gut bürgerliches Fischrestaurant mit einer Auswahl an verschiedenen und kreativen Schnitzelvariationen u. n. mehr 😋. Die Bedienung war nordisch frisch, sehr freundlich, spontan und fröhlich 😊. Die Zutaten werden frisch zubereitet, die Qualität überragend und üppig 🙌🏽. Alles in allem hat es von den Vorspeisen, Hauptgänge und Nachtischen uns sehr gut geschmeckt 👏🏽👏🏽☺️. Sehr authentisch, super leckeres Essen, große Portionen. Insbesondere das Matjestartar und die Krabbensuppe sind sehr zu empfehlen, aber alles andere, was wir hatten, war auch sehr gut!

Lekker Labskaus, anders wie meins, aber mind. genauso gut!

Sehr gemütliches Fischrestaurant mit einer feinen Auswahl an Fisch und Ostfriesischen Spezialitäten. Die Chefin ist super nett und überaus freundlich. Die Speisen sind sehr lecker und werden direkt nach der Bestellung frisch zubereitet. Das schmeckt man auch. Da das Restaurant recht klein ist würde ich immer empfehlen vorher zu reservieren. Besonders originell fand ich das die Speicherkarte auf einigen Schildern an der Wand angebracht war.

Ein kleines, feines Restaurant mit einer tollen Auswahl an Fischgerichten. Eine klare Empfehlung für alle die gerne Fisch essen. Vielen Dank für einen schönen Abend mit sehr leckerem Essen. Beim nächsten Aufenthalt in Emden kommen wir gerne wieder. Tischreservierung ist allerdings empfehlenswert.

Unbedingt vorher die benötigten Plätze reservieren für spontan Besuche mit großen Gruppen ist das Welvaard zu gut besucht!^^ Die Speisekarte an der Wand ist einfach cool und der Service ist herzlich, unterhaltsam und professionell zugleich. Ein richtiges Kleinod in Emden. Die Krabbensuppe ist köstlich, dann leckerer Fisch in großen Portionen und ein tolles Dessert (Tiramisu in der Tasse😋). Dazu Bier oder Wein nach Geschmack und das alles mit supernettem Service eines Familienbetriebs. Wirklich eine Empfehlung!!!

13:30 Uhr, keine Reservierung, kein Essen..... dann eben nicht!

Die Gastgeber sind sehr herzlich, man fühlt sich Willkommen. Das Essen ist hervorragend, ob Fisch oder Fleisch. Herzlichen Dank für die super Bewirtung

Sehr schön eingerichtetes kleines Restaurant. Die Inhaberin ist freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Speicherkarte hängt gut lesbar an den Wänden. Im Hintergrund spielt leise Musik. Die Portionen sind groß und der Preis angemessen. Wir kommen gerne im nächsten Urlaub wieder.

Am Freitagabend so hinein gestolpert und leider vertröstet worden da wir nicht reserviert hatten. In dem Moment schon über die wenigen besetzten Tische gewundert. Jedoch einfach für den nächsten Tag reserviert und einen Tag später wiedergekommen - und es hat sich gelohnt. Das Essen ist Spitze und der Service sehr gut. Noch nie zuvor in einem so unkommerziellen Haus zu Gast gewesen. Klare Empfehlung! Allerdings das reservieren nicht vergessen.

Pünktlich um 12:00 Uhr nahmen wir im Welvaarts ohne Reservierung Platz und wurden vom Inhaber freundlich begrüßt. Die Speisekarte befindet sich im Inneren des Lokals auf Tafeln und ist wie bei Fischrestaurants marktabhängig. Dies lässt darauf schließen, dass alle Speisen wirklich frisch eingekauft und zubereitet werden. Wir bestellten Matjes und Labskaus, nach kurzer Zeit wurde unsere Bestellung ausgeführt, die Anrichtung der Teller war eine Augenweide, der Geschmack war hervorragend, die Preise sind angemessen. In der Mittagszeit öffnet das Lokal von 12:00 Uhr - 14:00 Uhr. Bis 13:00 Uhr war neben uns noch ein weiterer Tisch belegt. Von der Chefin/Inhaberin wurden die anderen Gäste als auch wir, mit fast jedem Satz darauf hingewiesen, dass wir eigentlich zu reservieren hätten und dies von uns auch beim nächsten Besuch (bitte) erwartet wird. Als zufällige Laufkundschaft fühlten wir uns damit nicht unbedingt willkommen. Eventuell kommen wir wegen des guten Essens wieder, vermutlich wieder ohne Reservierung und falls wir dann nicht Willkommen sind, gehen wir weiter, es gibt sicherlich noch weitere gute Gastronomen in Emden, die sich auch an einer Laufkundschaft erfreuen.
