Unfortunately, it was a disappointment: the service was very attentive and friendly, but the rest of the food was very poor. The Wiener schnitzel was obviously deep-fried, the breading was flattened and almost inedible, the meat was undercooked and completely red. Since the food arrived after 3 minutes, I suspect it was microwaved. The lamb's lettuce with chanterelle mushrooms was one of the worst things I've eaten in years. Sorry, but that's just not possible at these prices, with all due respect for staff shortages, etc. The waiter was extremely nice and tried very hard; maybe he can cook, too?

Excellent food in a cozy atmosphere. The rooms are Art Nouveau in style. They're winding but very spacious. The noise level can be a bit loud at times. The service is very courteous, attentive, and friendly. They're also quick-witted, which I find funny and appealing. You should definitely make a reservation in advance, though, as Kiepenkerl is very well-known and popular. Reservations are only possible inside.

We had a very pleasant stay today at the little Kiepenkerl. The food was, as always, excellent and of good quality. A cozy atmosphere both in the restaurant and outside. We had an incredibly good evening. The two of us were there for my birthday. The food was fantastic. And more than enough! The service was outstanding. There was hardly any wait, yet they were very patient and pleasant. They were extremely helpful and very dedicated. I highly recommend them!

We had a very pleasant and cozy evening. We sat outside at a small table for two and had made a reservation. It was very interesting to try traditional German dishes, and we certainly succeeded. I had sausage and liver bread with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. My husband opted for broad beans. Both were very filling and delicious! We enjoyed a delicious beer with them. For dessert, I chose apple strudel with ice cream – it was divinely delicious! The service was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was warm, cozy, and inviting. We would love to come back – and certainly more than once. Thank you very much, and I wish you many generous guests!

This place is certainly no insider tip, but it's highly recommended. Saturday evening. It was packed, but we were still lucky to get a table. But definitely reserve a table. We sat inside, which was fine considering the 30-degree temperature outside. Good, home-style dishes, but finely prepared. Served in a historic setting by very attentive staff. Prices are a bit high, but that would be the only negative star. The parking situation is also rather poor, as is the case in all German old town centers. But even that shouldn't detract from the restaurant.

Unfortunately, a huge disappointment! Starting with the food... If I offer a Wiener Schnitzel, then it should look and taste something like this. It should also be hot. Fried potatoes, unfortunately, were dripping with grease. The deciding factor for my poor rating, however, is how we were kicked out after 2 hours. There were 5 of us and we spent €250 on food and drinks. Even though there were 8 tables available and no one was waiting outside for a table, we were kicked out exactly 2 hours later!!! Little Kiepenkerl, the name may be well-known, but the way they treat their guests is embarrassing and rude! Quantity doesn't always equal quality! Dear owner, get off your high horse!!!!!

Highly recommended! Our VW tour driver recommended the little Kiepenkerl to us, and we were happy to follow his advice. We will always remember the extremely attentive service and the best Kaiserschmarrn north of the Danube. 😄

We were here today with our 13-month-old daughter. Our daughter has never had her jar of food (which we brought with us and they warmed it up there) served with such care and excellence. Such an incredibly child-friendly restaurant with top-notch food and service! If we ever visit Münster again, we'll definitely stop here again! Thanks for the experience!

attentive staff, delicious food

We had to wait a bit for a free table on a Friday evening, but we didn't have a reservation. The wait was worth it. The service was very friendly and attentive and joked with us guests. The food was plentiful and very tasty. And the house beer was also very good. Everything was a bit pricey for us spoiled Berliners. But OK. All in all, highly recommended. We'd be happy to come back. Note: The Kiepenkerl and the terrace next door are not part of this restaurant. They are separate restaurants.

Kleiner Kiepenkerl We traveled from all directions to Münster for a family reunion and had already decided in advance to have dinner at the Kleiner Kiepenkerl. The reservation process itself is very professional and designed for efficiency. The welcome and service in the restaurant are extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was very good; in any case, there were no complaints from our small group. Personally, since it was asparagus season, I naturally had an asparagus dish and was not disappointed. Thank you for the wonderful stay within your walls. A repeat visit is not out of the question.

A cozy restaurant in Münster's old town with excellent food and very friendly and fast service. Scenes from the crime series "Tatort Münster" were also filmed in the restaurant. We had pike-perch and veal loin with broccoli and potatoes for dinner. The dessert selection was particularly delicious, consisting of apple strudel, vanilla ice cream, strawberries with whipped cream, rhubarb, and another cream.

Unexpectedly high quality in the center of Münster. The veal schnitzel was truly delicious. The prices are on the high side, but the great location and the perceived excellent quality make up for it. The staff were attentive, and despite the relatively busy schedule, the wait was manageable. The menu seemed uncluttered, yet the selection was still large enough. I'd happily return next time I'm in Münster.

We visited for lunch on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. As always, the rating is based on ambience/location, menu/food, and service. The location of the restaurant is very good, right in the city center, close to the cathedral. I can't comment on the parking situation, as our car was parked in the parking garage, which is necessary in Münster's city center. The ambiance is very stylish and does justice to the old building. Dark furniture, somewhat convoluted, but very cozy and quaint. The menu is clear and tidy. The number of dishes and drinks on offer is more than sufficient, especially since they also had a current asparagus menu. The food arrived promptly and hot. The presentation was modern and as expected. The taste was excellent, and the portion size was very good. The service was excellent. Attentive, quick, not intrusive, but friendly and charming. High praise for that. In summary, the 5 stars are more than deserved, and we want to come back.

The Kleine Kiepenkerl impresses not only with its beautiful interior in the style of a traditional German house, but also with a warm and cozy atmosphere that immediately puts you at home. The menu offers an excellent selection of dishes, typically Westphalian but with a modern twist. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and lovingly prepared. We would especially like to highlight the service: Our waitress, Sana, was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and professional. You can tell that the work here is done with passion. We would gladly return :)

Delicious, friendly, and authentic. We stopped here while looking for a restaurant with authentic regional cuisine. A great choice! We felt at home from the very first second. The interior is rustic and cozy, the staff friendly and accommodating, and the selection of food and drinks was excellent. In addition to the regular menu, there was also a menu featuring the seasonal highlights. We opted for the Münsterland wedding soup and cream of asparagus soup as a starter, three kinds of gnocchi with white and green asparagus, and the lamb's lettuce with roasted mushrooms as a main course. All the dishes were delicious, attractively presented, and plentiful. We were very satisfied throughout and would gladly return.

We were lucky enough to get a seat outside at the Kleiner Kiepenkerl, which was great given the crowds. The location on a quiet side street makes the ambiance particularly pleasant and relaxed. The service was truly excellent: The servers were quick, friendly, and very courteous, so we felt well looked after from the start. We had a slight disappointment with the meal: My pepper steak was served completely cooked, even though I had ordered it medium. Especially in an established restaurant, the preparation of the dishes should be more tailored to the order. Apart from that, we enjoyed the food. Overall, it was a lovely evening with great service and a pleasant atmosphere. We'd be happy to come back and hope that the steak will be cooked better next time.

A strange city, hungry and thirsty, where should we go? We think we instinctively found the right restaurant. Friendly staff and incredibly delicious food. We had the Kaiserschmarrn (smothered pancakes) – super delicious, and the mixed salad with potato dressing – a real treat. If you like honey and mustard dressing, you can't go wrong. We'll be happy to come back on our next visit to Münster. Best regards

We were subjected to racism by the waiter. Never again!

Yesterday, my mother-in-law was alone in the restaurant and asked where she could sit. She was told she could sit anywhere. So my mother-in-law found a spot against the wall of the house (protected from the wind) because she was freezing. It was a table for four. The first waiter came and told her that, as a single person, she would be blocking a table for four (there were still several tables available), to which she replied that other people were welcome to sit with her. He then fetched a menu, and another waiter came over, said the same thing again, and told her to sit at a table for two (which was in the shade). My mother-in-law explained her choice of table again, to which the waiter simply said that she would have to vacate the table as soon as other guests arrived (just to remind you, there were other tables available). She then stood up and simply said that she hadn't imagined her birthday would be like this! The Westphalian hospitality, which is specifically mentioned on the website, was not felt here at all! Personally, I find this behavior very sad and also disrespectful towards my mother-in-law. Just because someone comes to dinner alone doesn't mean they have to be treated this way. I just want to point out again that she was told she could sit wherever she wanted. Then she could have been assigned a table right away. It's a shame that things turned out this way, especially on a day like this!

Very good service in a typical old Münsterland atmosphere. The primarily Münsterland food is exceptionally well prepared and we had very good wine. My wife even got the vegan version of my "Münsterländer Krüstchen" (schnitzel on toast with fried potatoes and a mushroom cream sauce). Even the mixed side salad was sensational!

En restaurang med både ute- och inomhus servering. Vi valde ett bord inne, en trevlig varm ”tysk” atmosfär. Åt en fantastisk middag med säsongens vita sparris, otroligt perfekt tillagade med en lika perfekt hollandaise. Trevlig service. På vägarna finns intressanta fotografier av området under 40-talet. Mycket folk, reservera bord!

For decades, I've always enjoyed staying in the little Kiepenkerl. The food is always delicious, the service is always polite, friendly and funny, but never intrusive. An absolutely pleasant atmosphere all around. See you soon!

Een druk terras, maar we slaagden erin om een plek te bemachtigen. Gezellig terras heerlijk in de zon voor een drankje. We hebben er niet gegeten maar wat we zagen aan wat er uitgeserveerd werd zag dat er allemaal fantastisch uit. Vriendelijke bediening en prijs/kwaliteit was goed.

After going out to eat spontaneously in recent years has not always been successful. A great solution was found with the 2nd house. The short walk makes you curious. The little Kiepenkerl is an institution in Münster. You should always make a reservation. Very fast, attentive and friendly service. Extensive menu, solid quality; The crust is recommended. Only the tables have become too small... Given the many plates and side dish bowls, it can get uncomfortably cramped with several people at the table!

Went to lunch at the small Kiepenkerl and got a seat outside. Käsespätzle and Kaiserschmarren were very, very tasty! There were also many vegetarian main courses and I was very happy about the non-alcoholic white wine!

We really liked it here. It started with a very dedicated service lady who, despite the house being full, made it possible for our reservation to be postponed because two people in our group of four were stuck in a traffic jam. We were passing through and stopped off in Münster, starving. We were lucky and got a table for two outside under the first warm rays of sunshine. The menu was very appealing and varied. We opted for cheese spaetzle with mushrooms. It was very tasty, beautifully presented, and the salad, which came in a separate bowl, was crisp and also excellent. The staff was very friendly. We'll be back when we have more time.
