Kirchberghäuschen in Bensheim

A great place for a short break in a hike. The food is ok, although it's more of a snack bar than a restaurant, good beer and wine. The only downside is the service.

Was there in autumn 2019. Fantastic view, delicious wine and snack update were up there again on Sunday... and still a fantastic view and great service even though it was very full again. The cherry wine and the currant wine were once again very tasty.

Naturally very crowded when the weather is good. The nice ambience makes up for any possible waiting times. The prices for food and drinks have increased somewhat recently.

I have been visiting this place for many years. The view from the Kirchberghäuschen is simply unbeatable, and the path there is also pleasant to walk. Pure nature, eat and drink something delicious at the Kirchberghäuschen after a walk. Just to enjoy.

Great Sunday walk! Unfortunately the smoked trout was out for the second time, so it was better to call in advance. The price level is generous and the “walking customers” are numerous when the weather is good. The vision is fantastic!

We went to Kirchberg after a walk last week. The ambience is very nice and the view is unique. However, in terms of cuisine, the economy leaves a lot to be desired. Why is that? We ordered the cooked cheese and hand cheese bread as well as a piece of cheesecake with a cappuccino. Regarding the bread dishes: Both cost €9.90 each. This is far too expensive compared to leading restaurants in the Rhine-Main area. In addition, the quality was inadequate. The bread was thawed, very dry and of course not fresh. After we complained, our bread was taken away and a few minutes later the waitress came back. She brought the same bread. Only this time it was a little warmer. It was probably in the microwave. Instead of saying there was no fresh bread, it was reheated. This is outrageous and not professional customer service. The cappuccino was also difficult. It was black coffee with spray cream. The cheesecake ultimately fit the bill too. This was thawed and had a lot of room for improvement in taste. They charged €4 for this, which is grossly overpriced for this quality. The head chef should ask himself whether these are his own requirements and hopefully change something!

Park your car in Schönberg and walk about 20 minutes through the forest. Very nice sun terrace with a wide view. The waiter gives you a seat cushion when you go in. Food is ordered inside. SB. But it will be cleared away. Everything was very tasty. Very good schnitzel meat. Wheat shandy super mixed. We would love to come back!

Very nice view of the Rhine plain and Donnersberg

They close the kitchen at 5:30pm, which is rather inconvenient. The service is quite poor due to noticeable lack of understanding when it comes to customer needs. However, the view is absolutely fantastic. It's hard to comprehend how restaurant management can impose such ridiculous rules on their staff

We walked up to dinner today with our 2 children. At 5:34 p.m., when the sun was shining, we were told the kitchen was now closed. All the people in front of us still got fries etc., the deep fryer was still running, the boss had just refilled the fries and there was no one left behind us. When asked if he could make an exception because the children were looking forward to their dinner, his answer was that he also wanted to go home to the children. Next time we should call ahead and ask. The kitchen closed today at 5:30 p.m. We had looked online beforehand and it said it was open. The terrace was full and, as I said, there was no one behind us. I think if you have so little interest in your job (in such a nice place) you should leave it alone. Super negative experience, we won't be going back anytime soon. 👎

Very nice place due to its position on the heights of Bensheim. On the other hand, there is a bit of a lack of tolerance for tourists. I came by bike after 120km and I had several beers with a friend. I ate an energy bar to continue my outing and the cook came to scold me. According to him, I was not allowed to consume anything other than the products sold à la carte. Not very nice of him!

Very nice destination with a great view. Contrary to some other reviews, the food was very good. Tastes are just different. We sat outside and you have a nice panoramic view. Highly recommended... would be happy to come back.

We were at the Kirchberghäuschen for the first and last time. Celebrated and recommended by many friends, we decided to go on a spontaneous trip in nice weather. We parked down in town and were up there in just under 15 minutes, despite two small children. The view was nice despite the sunshine, but that was it. Despite the large number of visitors, it didn't take long to find a seat, thanks to sufficient fluctuation. There are plenty of tables outside and also inside. There were staff everywhere as far as the eye could see, but probably only to clear away glasses and plates, which was a shame. Self-service is the order of the day and so I stood in a queue about 35-40 meters long all the way up to the playground. After almost 40 minutes I was able to place my order with a visibly unstressed lady. To be on the safe side, each of my orders was asked 3 times and in the end we still got the wrong drinks. (No, my speech therapist assured me that it wasn't my pronunciation). To our dismay, the Kaiserschmarn, which was praised by many visitors, came out of the microwave. Even the children couldn't like the dessert. Big and honest praise goes to the currywurst with fries. This is a really thick boiled sausage without casing that tasted great and at a fair price! Unfortunately, all other dishes were below average. The concept of self-service has reached its limits when the workload is high and requires adjustment, especially when ordering and if you understandably don't cook just in time, then please don't place a microwave in the visible area of ​​the kitchen (that always has a bad aftertaste). . Conclusion: Canteen flair with a reasonable view, but clean and at fair prices.

Here you have a wonderful view over the Upper Rhine Plain. The fruit wines are excellent! It's always worth taking a walk here!

No service, not exactly friendly. Refuse to take small coins, fries were basically cold (they were already ready). All in all, it's better to get something in town and then sit in front of it. As a previous speaker has already written, mass processing.

The restaurant has a magnificent location on top of a hill, it is surrounded by vineyards and has a magnificent view of the city! The restaurant offers you typical German food that you can eat inside and outside its facilities. Get ready for a good walk of your life to get to the restaurant!

Whenever I'm back in Bensheim, I go up to the Kirchberghäuschen 😃.

Anyone who lives or is on vacation in the Bergstrasse area should visit the Kirchberghäuschen! The view is a dream in every season and invites you to linger. Unfortunately, on weekends and especially on sunny days, you have to fight for a seat here. However, the service staff outside has good coordination so you usually don't have to wait longer than 20 minutes. The food is OK, the prices are of course correspondingly high due to the fantastic view, which you can already imagine given the location. The cook at the food pick-up point has often been so annoyed, but you can easily counter him with flippant sayings that he can tolerate. I visit the Kirchberghäuschen at least once a year.

Nice viewpoint in the vineyards. In the Kirchberghäuschen there are a few dishes (e.g. various schnitzels and Kaiserschmarrn) and drinks can be picked up at the counter/food counter. There are plenty of seats outside, but they fill up quickly when the weather is good. Small playground for the little ones. Neat and clean outdoor toilets.

Very disappointing visit to Kirchberg yesterday. The staff was listless and unfriendly, and unfortunately the food was extremely bad. What's a Mixed Pickles doing on a Handkäs with music? The boiled cheese schnitzel was totally hard and there were also mixed pickles on the potato salad. The fries and the naturally cloudy apple juice, on the other hand, were a positive surprise. Price/performance is a disgrace! I remember this place with charm from earlier times. It now resembles an outdated snack bar with mass processing. It's self-service but the items are cleared away without asking or saying anything. You don't feel welcome in any way. Even the grubby seat cushions that are handed to you upon arrival don't come off. We won't be eating here anymore, but we'll be happy to enjoy the wonderful view with a glass of apple juice or Bergstrasse wine. It still remains and is the only reason to stop here.

The Kirchberghäuschen is a beautiful, idyllic excursion restaurant with a wide view over the Odenwald, Bergstrasse and the Rhine plain. Easily reachable on foot from Bensheim or Schönberg in 20 minutes. We come here regularly from Weinheim and enjoy the uniquely beautiful view with delicious Kirchbergriesling. The staff is always friendly and in a good mood. I can't say much about the food since we only eat fries every time, but they are excellent! The Kirchberghäuschen is my absolute favorite place between Darmstadt and Heidelberg!!

A very nice place! If you're good on foot, you can get up here from the city in 15-20 minutes. The view is wonderful. You sit at rustic wooden tables under the trees. There is self-service. The service staff are all very friendly and helpful. I can recommend the Pinot Gris.

Really enjoyable authentic Bergstr. Beer garden/restaurant with relaxed, friendly locals. Top weinschörle and schnitzel plus local dishes, and some vegetarian dishes. One must take a very scenic walk through the vineyards to the top. Takes about 20 mins from edge of Stadtpark Bensheim. Well worth it for the view and the food.

The climb from Bensem is short but crisp, the reward: magnificent panorama, cold beer and a good time...

A great place to stop after a hike. Children's playground. Shady outdoor seating with a wonderful view over the Bergstrasse to the Ried and further to Ludwigshafen. Good menu and drinks. Great Riesling. Happy to go back again and again.

I like to combine hikes on the mountain road with a stop/rest at the Kirchberghäuschen. The absolute unique selling points are the opening times (open daily!!!) and the location in the vineyards with a great view. The service team is pleasantly friendly and the Kaiserschmarrn tastes good too!

We have been there countless times and always enjoy the wonderful ambience. This time, however, we noticed how expensive everything had become. 7 EUR for a 0.4 liter wine spritzer is quite steep for self-service. Unfortunately, the prices for food and quantity no longer match at all.

A place to go in Bensheim for as long as I can remember. A beautiful outdoor area under old trees and a fantastic view reward the walker for the climb. And since the Bulling family has taken over the culinary scepter, that too has been a pleasure. Despite self service, it's worth a trip.

We have known the Kirchberghäuschen for many years. It used to be just a nice garden restaurant with a view over Bensheim and a manageable menu. A bit provisional at times, but that's why it's somehow likeable. For a few years now (new tenant?) it has become a sales machine: Even the two sawn-off tree trunks directly below the restaurant have been removed so that no hiker comes up with the idea of ​​sitting there and possibly eating their own provisions. On the viewing bench right next to it there is also a sign informing you that you are still on the territory of the inn (which means: just sitting down and biting into your own bread is not welcome here). The service staff is also trained (or should we say "trained") to check whether one or two of them eat their own food on the bench: there is a risk of being expelled. The only thing missing is that as a walker you have to pay tolls if you simply want or have to cross the grounds of the garden restaurant in order to get back on the hiking trail to Bensheim.
