A very nice hike up Kirchberg. Along the way, there's a small playground with a swing and slide...but unfortunately, it's in the blazing sun at midday. Otherwise, the path is pleasant to walk in both sunshine and shade. There are also benches along the way. As a reward, coffee and cake are available at the top...very tasty, as are wine, beer (also non-alcoholic), and juice and spritzers. For dinner, there's schnitzel, bratwurst, fish and chips, fried potatoes, spaetzle, and Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancakes) with apple sauce. The view from the top is fantastic; you can even see the Palatinate Mountains 👍 Dogs are also welcome. The only downside: the card reader was broken today 🤔 The restrooms were clean. 🥰 A trip there is definitely recommended 👍 I'd love to come back 🤗

The view is great and the wines are good, although a bit pricy (count 5-6 euro per 2 cl glass). I found the food very basic, I took the kochkäse with fries which is basically a spoon of melted cheese on a big portion of fries with some pieces of raw onions, for 10€.. side dishes are just fries or bread and butter. No salad, just small tiny portion of pickles

The view is simply unbeatable, and Bensheim without the Kirchberghäuschen is unimaginable. The snacks are of a solid snack-grill standard, tending to be expensive for self-service, but still recommendable due to the great beer garden and the fantastic ambiance 👌🏼 Addendum from August 2025: I don't really understand the point of this occasionally insulting and thin-skinned "kicking back" in the face of actually good reviews. Even addressing people by their full name (including their last name) is actually a no-go in this day and age of data protection regulations, and is on thin legal ice. Restaurateurs are not gods above the law.

We were extremely disappointed with the food and drinks. The schnitzels were cheap, mass-produced, thickly breaded and tasteless. Previously, we had freshly smoked whole trout, but now there were two trout fillets on the plate that weren't that great. If the Hüttentaler cheese dairy had had to judge the cooked cheese, they would have been completely disillusioned. The woodruff lemonade and apple wine spritzer tasted beyond belief; the best was a bottle of mineral water. In short, the price-performance ratio is not guaranteed.

We'd be delighted if the kitchen could be given a few more fine-tunings. Then we'd definitely come by much more often—and even hungry!

A beautiful, quiet location with a great view

A wonderful place to stop for a drink; we've been coming here regularly for years. Unfortunately, the owner is a bit grumpy, and the quality of the food has also declined. The location and the number of customers offer plenty of opportunities to generate revenue. However, at €6 per bottle of beer (and this kind), the fun stops – that's pretty greedy.

Only accessible on foot from town or from the parking lot in the forest about 1.5 km away! Impressive view, beer garden feel. Self-service. Very attentive, friendly staff. Delicious regional dishes, freshly prepared. Good selection of drinks. We have been satisfied guests for many years.

Hello, good day, the view is fantastic—the reason you hiked the 30 minutes in the first place. There's food and exciting drinks (see volume). A large group (33) (workers' guild) arrived (inline skates), and there was still space despite the sunny weekend. The service was fast and good, beyond words.

I was very impressed by the place, the staff, and their friendliness. It's easy to reach, invites you to relax and enjoy yourself, and is a lovely starting or ending point for hikes.

The Kirchberghäuschen can be reached in 15 minutes on foot from the Schönberg sports field. There are plenty of seating options in the beer garden with a wonderful view over Bensheim to Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, and Worms. We were warmly welcomed with cushions and were free to choose our own seats. All the staff were super friendly. We ate delicious schnitzel with fries, onion sauce, and cooked cheese. The beer was also good. The value for money was absolutely perfect. For the little ones, there's a welcome crown, a small playground, and a box of games and art supplies. Two minor criticisms: Hefeweizen beer only really tastes good from a proper wheat beer glass, and one or two children's dishes on the menu would be welcome. The Kirchberghäuschen is a taste of Bensheim! We'd love to go back!

Hello, we were at the Kirchberghäuschen today in glorious weather. Prices are quite high these days: a 0.4 liter wine spritzer costs €7, while on the other side of the Rhine, a 0.5 liter costs €5. The sausage salad was good, BUT the bread—sure, it was fresh farmhouse bread before it was frozen, but the microwave doesn't hide that. Unfortunately, when it's cold, it gets rock hard. Not acceptable in this price range.

Our son suffered a big bump and everyone took care of it very nicely and asked again and again whether we need help. This is really not a matter of course. Food and drinks were also very tasty. Thanks!

The Kirchberghäusschen is a beautiful spot with a stunning view over Bensheim, the Bergstrasse, and all the way to Mannheim and Heidelberg. Its location makes it a real destination – especially in good weather. The climb is quite short, but steep, making it not ideal for older people or guests with walking difficulties. The staff is consistently very friendly and accommodating. Another positive: The hut is almost always open, making it a reliable destination. Unfortunately, we were repeatedly disappointed with the food. The fries are extremely salty, and the cooked cheese schnitzel comes out of the fryer with a thick coating – unfortunately, the taste isn't convincing. We'll definitely be back – but in the future, only for the drinks and the view.

We didn't eat, but we didn't want to deduct a point for that. You're immediately greeted warmly upon arrival and shown to a table. The self-service is friendly. It's very dog-friendly, and there's a beautiful view of the mountain road. If we hadn't been there for the hike, we certainly would have stayed a while longer.

Beautiful beer garden with a great view of Bensheim and the Rhine Valley. You can sit comfortably under the trees. The food was disappointing. The fat just ran out of the breading on the schnitzel. Onion sauce was a mess (probably convenience food) and for the fries, the ones left over from the previous preparation were added to the new ones in the deep fryer, so that you had a mixture of good fries that had also been fried too long and less edible fries.

Ambience top. Great views on the plain. The climb to the Kirchberghäuschen is short but very steep. Food could be better. There is only self-service!!! Nonetheless, it's always worth a visit.

A great place to visit with a view over the Rhine Valley. We sit relaxed under the large trees in the shade. The food is delicious and the drinks go well too. The queue is very long when the weather is good. You get the impression that you can optimize something. The friendly service quickly makes you forget your annoyances.

The cooking cheese with music tastes like nothing, the 3 slices of bread weren't fresh and the whole thing costs €9.90 - a classic case of “here you pay for the view”. Great Sunday walk! Unfortunately the smoked trout was out for the second time, so it was better to call in advance. The price level is generous and the “walking customers” are numerous when the weather is good. The vision is fantastic!

We went to Kirchberg after a walk last week. The ambience is very nice and the view is unique. However, in terms of cuisine, the economy leaves a lot to be desired. Why is that? We ordered the cooked cheese and hand cheese bread as well as a piece of cheesecake with a cappuccino. Regarding the bread dishes: Both cost €9.90 each. This is far too expensive compared to leading restaurants in the Rhine-Main area. In addition, the quality was inadequate. The bread was thawed, very dry and of course not fresh. After we complained, our bread was taken away and a few minutes later the waitress came back. She brought the same bread. Only this time it was a little warmer. It was probably in the microwave. Instead of saying there was no fresh bread, it was reheated. This is outrageous and not professional customer service. The cappuccino was also difficult. It was black coffee with spray cream. The cheesecake ultimately fit the bill too. This was thawed and had a lot of room for improvement in taste. They charged €4 for this, which is grossly overpriced for this quality. The head chef should ask himself whether these are his own requirements and hopefully change something!

Park your car in Schönberg and walk about 20 minutes through the forest. Very nice sun terrace with a wide view. The waiter gives you a seat cushion when you go in. Food is ordered inside. SB. But it will be cleared away. Everything was very tasty. Very good schnitzel meat. Wheat shandy super mixed. We would love to come back!

They close the kitchen at 5:30pm, which is rather inconvenient. The service is quite poor due to noticeable lack of understanding when it comes to customer needs. We walked up to dinner today with our 2 children. At 5:34 p.m., when the sun was shining, we were told the kitchen was now closed. All the people in front of us still got fries etc., the deep fryer was still running, the boss had just refilled the fries and there was no one left behind us. When asked if he could make an exception because the children were looking forward to their dinner, his answer was that he also wanted to go home to the children. Next time we should call ahead and ask. The kitchen closed today at 5:30 p.m. We had looked online beforehand and it said it was open. The terrace was full and, as I said, there was no one behind us. I think if you have so little interest in your job (in such a nice place) you should leave it alone. Super negative experience, we won't be going back anytime soon. 👎

Very nice place due to its position on the heights of Bensheim. On the other hand, there is a bit of a lack of tolerance for tourists. I came by bike after 120km and I had several beers with a friend. I ate an energy bar to continue my outing and the cook came to scold me. According to him, I was not allowed to consume anything other than the products sold à la carte. Not very nice of him!

We were at the Kirchberghäuschen for the first and last time. Celebrated and recommended by many friends, we decided to go on a spontaneous trip in nice weather. We parked down in town and were up there in just under 15 minutes, despite two small children. The view was nice despite the sunshine, but that was it. Despite the large number of visitors, it didn't take long to find a seat, thanks to sufficient fluctuation. There are plenty of tables outside and also inside. There were staff everywhere as far as the eye could see, but probably only to clear away glasses and plates, which was a shame. Self-service is the order of the day and so I stood in a queue about 35-40 meters long all the way up to the playground. After almost 40 minutes I was able to place my order with a visibly unstressed lady. To be on the safe side, each of my orders was asked 3 times and in the end we still got the wrong drinks. (No, my speech therapist assured me that it wasn't my pronunciation). To our dismay, the Kaiserschmarn, which was praised by many visitors, came out of the microwave. Even the children couldn't like the dessert. Big and honest praise goes to the currywurst with fries. This is a really thick boiled sausage without casing that tasted great and at a fair price! Unfortunately, all other dishes were below average. The concept of self-service has reached its limits when the workload is high and requires adjustment, especially when ordering and if you understandably don't cook just in time, then please don't place a microwave in the visible area of ​​the kitchen (that always has a bad aftertaste). . Conclusion: Canteen flair with a reasonable view, but clean and at fair prices.

No service, not exactly friendly. Refuse to take small coins, fries were basically cold (they were already ready). All in all, it's better to get something in town and then sit in front of it. As a previous speaker has already written, mass processing.

The restaurant has a magnificent location on top of a hill, it is surrounded by vineyards and has a magnificent view of the city! The restaurant offers you typical German food that you can eat inside and outside its facilities. Get ready for a good walk of your life to get to the restaurant!

Anyone who lives or is on vacation in the Bergstrasse area should visit the Kirchberghäuschen! The view is a dream in every season and invites you to linger. Unfortunately, on weekends and especially on sunny days, you have to fight for a seat here. However, the service staff outside has good coordination so you usually don't have to wait longer than 20 minutes. The food is OK, the prices are of course correspondingly high due to the fantastic view, which you can already imagine given the location. The cook at the food pick-up point has often been so annoyed, but you can easily counter him with flippant sayings that he can tolerate. I visit the Kirchberghäuschen at least once a year.
